Apparently according to my wife (who collects Tamagotchis), there's some child safety law requiring electronics marketed to children to need a screwdriver to open so kids can't easily access them. This is why Tamagotchis sold in the USA have a different access for the battery compartment from those sold in Japan.
Makes sense, kids eating batteries would be pretty bad.

@@HardBloodNelza G4 used to be a video game/nerd culture TV channel that was airing back in the mid 90s, late 2000s. It got cancelled after a while, and came back a year or 2 ago, they had hired Scott to make stuff for the channel, but because they sucked at being fun and entertaining, the channel went down the drain.

From what I heard the only good thing on there was Scott the Woz, and even then the episodes there seem to have been put onto Scott's Snippets (I think, don't quote me on that), which it isn't the best sign that the episodes on there were effectively just compilations.
There's a commentary on the Funeral Scott did which mentions G4 a bit, the first episode of it was airing but *something* went wrong so it didn't air at the right time, which seems indicative of G4's quality.
He didn't seem too invested in G4 in a concept.

Finally beating Patrick's maze when I was 6 has got to be one the most satisfying moments of my childhood.
Patrick's maze was bullshit. I hated that as a kid when he would get hurt and it knocked you back.
I thought I was the smartest kid in the world being able to plug in the component cables from these plug and plays into the TV. I felt like such an adult setting up my own "console"
I remember feeling like that with my NES. It had RF out and you had to screw them into the back of the tv, yes, with actual screws and a screw driver.
I'm horrible at plugging normal console in to this day. I felt so proud that I knew how to plug in a switch before realising it's less complicated than my laptop set up (I'm 19)

The thing I honestly love is the proprietary software in some of the plug and plays.
Games that can never be emulated on a PC because no one skilled enough in interested in converting them or creating emulators, so many original plug and play games will be lost in time soon enough, it's a shame.

My theory is that since the producers can't use copyrighted material regardless, and Scott does use a good chunk of copyrighted material (as much as corporations don't seem to notice, as stuff like video game music goes under the radar for the most part), Scott had to send in a rough cut of the video with the sounds and music removed so the producers could put in copyright free sound effects, music, and fully censor the words instead of how Scott only censors the hardest part of the word so it sounds like f ck and sh t. The editor here, however, didn't do a great job putting in the censors, so therefore now that part of the video has the actual words, which was a problem that didn't exist previously. I didn't see the entire premiere, but from what I can tell this episode is the only one that's like this.

I got a Spongebob Squarepants Plug and Play as a kid, but it isn't at all like the one Scott describes. Now, I did a few months after, get the one he showed, but I figured I should briefly describe mine. Not one fire button, but an A and B button in the same corner, "A" and "B" being engraved into the oval-shaped buttons. The nose was used like a joystick all the same. It did use the same battery requirements as Scott's, and physically was very similar. Inside, there were four games, one being a breakout clone, another being a unique puzzle, a third was a tile-based combat game, and the last one was a snowball-throwing game and looks like something familiar that I don't know the name of.
