I have type 1 diabetes and I remember having that game gifted to me by my nurse! I think it was the sequel to it though - world tour or something like that? Unfortunately, I had a DSi at the time and no slot to put the meter in. Thanks for the nostalgia though, and also for not making any insensitive jokes!

@@dylan6366 Yes, you draw blood. You put the "paper" that takes the blood in the ds thingy. You have a separate pen (that has been bought from the pharmacy, also the blood "papers") that you put a needle in. DS clip is only the meter that read the blood from the "paper". Sry, i'm trying my best to explain it, but the best way is to look up how to take your blood test with diabetes and that shows how it works.

The DS was a really big part of my childhood. I had the DS lite, the DSi, the 3DS XL, and the New 3DS. When I had my 3DS, I noticed that the top screen section was slightly disconnected from one of the little things on the sides that kept the top on. I didn’t really care about it, but eventually it broke even more. At a certain point, the top was hanging on by a few wires. Surprisingly, the top screen still worked. Then, me and my sister had an idea. We made a short film using my broken 3DS and a bunch of Pokémon plushies. The story was a young boy (me) who was playing Pokémon when his mom calls him to eat dinner. When he leaves his room, the DS breaks in half and all the Pokémon come out. They all go on an adventure (to my sister’s room) and make it back into the DS before he gets there. Great memories

Fun fact about the ds light: you can with a TI84 graphing calculator charger. It doesn’t rly fit but at certain angles it gets the job done. I happen to know this fact because I bought a used ds lite from GameStop and that’s the charger it came with.
The TI84 graphing calculator charger is more commonly known as a mini-usb charger. You are right though, a mini usb can charge the system at the correct angle

I remember I had a flash cart bundle. Came with a flash cart for each slot.. The software on the DS cart could write gba games and saves to slot 2 and launch them.
But the slot 2 cart also had the ram expansion AND rumble built-in.
I had this bundle for both DS and DS Lite.
I've since lost both consoles and bundles
and the DSi just made the vast majority of DS accessories useless on the system
As one of the few remaining people that still relatively actively plays guitar hero on the DS, as well as developing romhacks with custom songs for it, I can attest that there are definitely ways where it's really comfortable and fun to play. ty for bringing up this gem of a game

I had a dream once where Nintendo made a mii themed game called Mii Walk where you had to walk your dog IRL in order to play and you'd get points for the amount of footsteps, and I believe it connected to your Streetpass in some way. So, seeing 12:27 was quite uncanny.
nintendogs 3DS had a feature kinda like that? except you didn’t really see your mii because they were walking the dog haha, but it was fun to take a walk (I didn’t have a dog as a kid) and see the virtual dog be happy that you walked it

DS Download Play was the greatest thing ever.
I remember I would always lose my styluses, so I just wound up using empty mechanical pencils. Honestly, rlly effective as long as the tip is plastic and not metal

Fun fact : The DS wasn't the first console to have a glucose meter thingy. The gameboy had an accessory called the glucoboy that allowed you to play a game by putting a drop of blood in it... Let's just hope the game wasn't too hard or addicting.

How did Nintendo figure out voice chat on the Nintendo DS when voice chat on consoles was kinda foreign while 20 years later they can’t do it on the switch?
SD card is used as storage - It sucks when used dynamically like the gba port
From a cultural and business point of view, these are all super interesting products. None necessarily designed for mass appeal, but designed well for the few people that would enjoy them.
I really can appreciate this direction Nintendo tried, attempting to make DS more accessible to different audiences, and creating new, gamified experiences with less regard to bottom-line profits

7:49 There's actually a protocol for I/O called SDIO which allows you to add extra accessories (eg. a camera) via an SD Card slot. Unfortunately, the DS does not support SDIO, and it SDIO is very rarely seen out in the wild

the thing with the DS expansion pak for DS lite only is, in my opinion, that you could theoretically use it as a "replacement" for the thing you'd put into the slot 2 when nothing is inserted, if you were like literally everyone and lost it. i mean, it is the only slot 2 thing that doesn't stick out like hell so i would definetly use it for that if i had ever actually owned a DS.

dude same, it's gonna be 4 soon (i had the nintendogs SE lite, let someone borrow it and they lost it, then was given a DSi XL, and now have 2 DSi XLs because my sibling gave me hers. i'm gonna trade them both in, one for another SE lite, and the other for either a 3DS or 2DS)

Bought the system with that game, bought myself new super Mario bros, a ds stylus that went ok the tip of your finger, a carrying case that looked like a satchel that held 9 games, extra stylus pens, screen protectors. It was a wild ride.

Rarely, I write 4s with something like a rounded triangle, and I can write 4s or 9s based on where the vertical line intersects the horizontal line or how rounded the triangle is.

One of the uses for the microphone is setting the cry (The sound the Pokemon makes when sent into battle) of Chatot to whatever you want. The feature was removed later for obvious reasons.
