If Anbernic RG353V not booting switching SD card. Try Press reset once and then Press & hold Power

- If you own an Anbernic RG353VS handheld gaming system..... there are times when the system will not power up or boot.
One thing you can try is this.. very simple (happens sometimes when you switch sd cards for TF1)
1. Press the reset button (you don't have to hold it. Just press it for a second).
2. Now press and hold the power button until the light comes on.
I know.. it seems obvious.. but I didn't know something as simple as that would fix the problem.
You’re goated bro ! Thank you sm. Worked for rg 35xx plus
Glad to help
You saved me!!!!! Had mine less than 12hrs,and experienced the no boot.this 100% works!!
It’s crazy this can happen so easily. Glad it’s working now
Thank you man. Love from 🇧🇷
This was amazing. Worked great!
that helped, really panicked, but all working now again thx
The handheld gaming device is strange. Glad you got it working.
What I hate the most is when it stops powering at all (no power indicator).
Documentation manual included doesn't mention too much about 1st response should be reset button.
I removed sd from slot 1. It doesn't power at all.
Then I put back the original sd into slot 1. It didn't power well the first time... I tried agian.. it powered up.
Then later on.. I had issues with getting it to power on correctly while trying to copy the sd card to another sd card on my computer.
Sigh... not sure why they made it so complicated.
mine just stopped work after put some games in original sdcard. this way that u show doesn't work here. can do u help?
how long have to hold R button and power button? please thnaks
Thanks dude! I've only had this for a few days when it wouldn't come back on. I thought it was toast but you saved the day!
Yea. Had the same issue like after a week. Just baffles me that it can stop working so easily
Hello I bought a RG Arc and the second day it doesnt turn on
That DID work. I really appreciate that because this device is so temperamental, especially if you're playing hacked games.
You would think something as simple as this would be included in the user manual.
It's because.. naturally.. you use the reset button while it's on.. let's say if it freezes if you want to restart.
But who ever heard of pressing the reset button when it's OFF, and it fixing boot issues???
I thank google as it took me awhile to find the forum that made a point of pressing reset to make the portable console working again. In fact.. I don't know if long reset press works well... instead... you might need to press it literally for less then a second for it to work?
Hello I have an anbernic rg351v that stop turning on after one charge from a portable charger tried the reset button taking out the sd cards changing them but nothing any suggestions
I have a different model, but mine looks the same. It works
IT WORKS! THANK YOU!!
glad it helped
@@angrymathdude do you have a video of how to make ppsspp, N64 and PS games run smoother?
@@TheOficialShortKing sadly no. I don't really play these higher end games.. I usually stick to the older snes/sega games. I imagine their must be a setting on retroarch to reduce frames/resolution.
the device is also quite picky with the amount of files on an SD card when using the stock Android OS. It might get trapped in a reboot loop if it can't index the files properly.
Kind of off topic for this video. Is it not possible to connect usb-c -> usb-a to my computer and add more roms? when I plug it in none of my computers recognise the device. Do I really need an SD card usb thing to view the SD card on my computer?
I’ll check the documentation or try it out later. It’s actually a good question
I just checked.. sadly it doesn't allow you to copy/delete from a computer hooked up by USB C.
I think.. you would have 2 alternatives for copying games if you don't have a sd card reader:
1. Use a phone or tablet with micro sd card reader to copy games using a file browser app
2. maybe you have a laptop with micro sd card reader?
3. the anbernic hand held possibly has a internet method of copying files.. I think? I need to investigate that some time.
J'ai le même problème avec un R36S, j'ai flashé ma carte SD avec le dernier OS ArkOS_R35S-R36S_v2.0_04242024 mais quand je me ma carte SD dans la console, il se lance que sur un écran noir et plus rien :(
Something similar happens to me but when I turn on the screen I hear the sound but there is no image, it only shows as if it were on but without showing an image, what can I do?
Based on what limited information you've shared..
It might be a hardware issue.
I would just try returning or exchanging under warranty if possible.
Outside of the obvious (resetting it(
1. Try removing the 2nd sd card slot and only run sd card slot 1 (if you were using both sd card slots)
2. Try installing stock firmware onto a new sd card
3. Try a custom firmware
Good luck.
did you solve this problem? I have exactly the same issue
awsome solution!!!!!! thank mate!
TU ES LE MEILLEUR THANK YOU
what to do if my rg353v cant read sd card on 2nd slot (android os)
Hmmm...
Can you get the RG353V replaced? A broken 2nd memory slot kinda sucks.
If you can't get it replaced.. you can do the following (but you need a PC / micro sd like 64 or 128gb / card reader)
Basically anbernic has their firmware available on their website. You can take that image firmware and burn it straight onto an micro sd card of any size equal to or larger then 16gb.
If you end up getting a larger enough sd card,..the TF1 slot can do everything.. run the firmware as well as store the video game rom's.
1. The firmware file is here on anbernic's website:
win.anbernic.com/download/252.html
It's the first link to linux. Download the image file and unzip it so that it's just the image file.
2. No using a PC,.. insert the micro sd card with card reader into your computer.
You will need to use an imaging software like RUFUS (you can choose another one if you're familiar with something better).
rufus.ie/en/
3. Once you have copied the image onto your sd card.... it's ready to pop into TF slot one.
The first time you power it on.. it will do some things to initialize the "Game" partition. Once it's done.. it will boot up like normal.. with something like 40+ games.
4. Now.. once it's loaded..on the game emulator.. you can shut it off.. and put the micro sd card back into your card reader and into your pc.
5. It's just a matter now of copying the games back into the GAME partition of the micro sd card. That's it.
Here's a video of me trying to do it on my own sd card (although I don't get to the part where I copy the game roms onto my new primary TF1 card)
th-cam.com/video/zrbRg1agwy4/w-d-xo.html
Good luck!
Well.. hopefully it's just a bad sd card. It's pretty extreme if the TF2 slot is completely broken. Are you sure you initialized the TF2 memory card correctly and followed the correct file format and file structure?
i messed up the controls on the unit, does anyone know how to do a master reset... this reset doesnt set the controls back to original set up
me too
I’m doing the instructions but when the light comes on it’s orange and the boot screen doesn’t show up, just a black screen
You may need to wait abit... sometimes the game console is doing something in the background.
1. Are you using the original SD card?
2. How long have you owned the handheld system?
3. Have you tried booting the system without the 2nd card installed (ie slot 2 empty)?
i'm just hoping its taking some time reading the sd card.
Per many people online: backup the firmware and games to a different sd card since the stock sd card may not be reliable. Sigh
I have the other version without the joysticks but it won't turn on and only show the letter i can you help me
Usually.. I would suggest checking that it's charging properly.
Did anything happen recently?
Hi mine isnt doing anything when pluged in to charge original lead and sd installed
With your original sd card in TF inserted. Press the reset button once. And insert charging cable. Hopefully it starts the charging light.
If no charging lights and plugged in. Wait a a minute or two ... and try pressing the reset button once (just press.. no need to hold it)
If still no charging light, wait 5 minutes.. try pressing reset and wait.
If you haven't tried a different charging cable or different charger.. you might try that also.
Sorry..I hope you can troubleshoot the problem.
Worked thank you
this doesnt work
@AngryMathDude, please help, I have searched for hours with no solution to what seems to be a simple problem, i have a San Disk SDXC 64GB card, formatted to FAT32, I have an Anbernic RG28XX, I copied the files from stock SD card exactly to the new SD card, i have tried your reset method in the video, however no matter what the anbernic will only turn on with the stock sd card, even though the replfement is correct size, correct format and has exact same data, can anyone help?
Você precisa baixar a atualização no site da Anbernic e criar a imagem em um micro SD novo. Na pasta que você baixar, vai vir com o programa para gerar a imagem.
Thanks a lot
thanks for this
You're welcome
Thank you, you save my life
wow man, you saved me, tnks!
Glad it helped!
my rg35xx doesnt turned on what should i do
1. if you're not seeing any red light...
make sure you inserted the right sd card into slot 1. Your system will not power properly without the original sd card in the correct slot.
2. Try charging your device. Is it lighting up? I've read online that some chargers can cause problems. So maybe try different charging adapters?
3. If you purchased from amazon.. hopefully you can return. Othewaise.. contact the manufacturer to see if it can be warrantied.
Hey man! So when I have both sd cards in my console it won’t turn on. If I hold the power button down the green light will flash for 0.001 seconds but then immediately shuts off.
I noticed that if I took the tf1 sd card with the android firmware out and do this trick it does boot up!! But only for a while. It flashed the “Ambernic” logo for a few seconds- then shows the Android logo for a few seconds for some reason- THEN the light turns red, it vibrates for a short second- then turns off. I’m so sad cuz I rlly love this thing but idk what I can do to fix it.
Any ideas?
Hi Augustin, Hmmmm.. I've never experienced this issue.
It seems that the firmware SD card (slot 1) might have some issue. If rebooting it with only slot one inserted does not help...
Sadly, I'm not an expert, but I think 2 things might have happened....
1. Somehow sd card for slot 1 is bad.
2. (not likely) but a bigger hardware issue happened.. like the slot 1 card reader is not working properly, or some other hardware failure on the device.
Again.. I'm not an expert.. I am just someone like you.
If it were me.. I would try to install the firmware on a new sd card slot of 16gb or larger.
I used a 64gb samsung as well as a 32gb microcenter micro sd card.
th-cam.com/video/zrbRg1agwy4/w-d-xo.html
I made this video of me installing the firmware by:
a. downloading the firmware from anbernic's website.
unzip the file so it shows the image.
b. burn the stock firmware image file to a new micro sd card (you need a card reader slot or a usb card reader) using software like RUFUS (free).
Good luck... again.. please try other methods before doing this last measure... of reinstalling the firmware onto a NEW micro sd.

Yea for some reason i switched to my second sd card and i cant switch back to sd 1 for some reason and im scared
Did you create the second sd card yourself?
The sd 1 card.. is that the original sd card that went into tf 1 slot?
Mine doesn't turn on when press the power button, is the power button supposed to make a click sound when pressed? have a feeling it could be the switch
No mine does not make a click when power is pressed down.
When you plug it into the charger, does it show the battery charger icon?
@angrymathdude it shows a yellow orange light when plugged in, went off after charging for a while
@@realreddog8866 Hmmmm... looks like it could be the power switch.
When you plug in the power cable... it should turn orange/yellow. Then the screen display a white charging battery icon for a few seconds.
Hmmm.. hopefully you can exchange it.
@@angrymathdude I think it is the switch, after opening it up there is no movable button like the reset button. Ive ordered the switch part so will solder a new one in place
@@realreddog8866 Oh man.. that sucks. It's too bad you can't just return the handheld. But sounds like you're electronic savvy.. hope you get it back up and running soon.
I thought it couldn’t turn it without the card inside for a sec lol
Do you know why it may have deleted all the games after doing this? And maybe a fix?
Typically games wouldn't be deleted after a reset.
It could be something simple. Like the sd card wasn't read properly.
The sd card for games is typically in the TF2 slot. It's formatted in fat32. So if you have a SD card reader you can check on the PC if the games are still their. Otherwise you could put it into a phone or tablet to check if the games are their.
There's a small chance that
1) your game list for retroarch got corrupted and needs to be rebuilt. It usually happens automatically but you might have to manually rebuild this list. Sadly I'm not sure how to do this
2) your games SD card might be corrupt. But you need to check to see if the data is their.
Thank you
Yw
Why can't you turn the device on without a SD card inserted?
It's by design...
I'm guessing so the SD card doesn't get damaged maybe?
Or maybe it has to do with if you're in the process of playing a game... it has something saved... who knows..
It's just weird still though you can't power it up without an sd card.
Need help my rg35xx is stuck on the main interface menu and buttons are not working 😢
Hi... so.. let me get more information.
When it boots.. does it just boot to the anbernic logo... or does it load to the first start screen where you can select games?
1. Have you already tried resetting your anbernic consol.
2. After resetting have you tried removing the sd card... reinserting the sd card.. and powering back up.
3. Try rebooting (with reset) where the 2nd sd card slot is removed.
4. If your anbernic does not respond to the buttons (like down or up)... after a reboot... this might be a hardware issue.
Thank you for replying. 😊 It loads to the first start screen where I can select games but It does not move. I'll try your instructions. Hope it works 🙏
sad to say it's still not working I tried removing the sd card, putting it back on and turning it on. Also tried removing the sd card and turning the anbernic without the sd card but it wont turn on without it. 🥺
I'll try to change my sd card, hope it will fix the issue 😅 what do you think?
@@janmarigarcia Sorry.. I missed the part where you mentioned it loads to the game selection screen but you're not able to move.
It could possibly be a bad SD card.
But I think it's more hardware.. as it seems like none of the controls are responding. I hope I'm wrong about this. Like a loose connection somewhere (or bad solder).. but again.. I'm just an amateur.
Does this work for r36s ?
it might.. since it's made by the same company.
Bro thx so much
I know. It happens
hello. I bought a rg35xx plus, and it had problems loading, I read that the best option was to buy a branded SD card, because the one it came with was of poor quality. So I bought a SanDisk of the same capacity, transferred all the data from the old SD card to the new one, but when I put it in the console, it does not turn on, the console has 50% battery, I have taken the card in and out , reset, held the power button and there is no way. With the old SD card it does turn on, but as I mentioned at first it gives me problems charging, basically it charges for about 10 minutes and then stops charging despite being connected to the network, and of course I am not using a fast charger . Basically the problem is that I can't turn on the console with the brand SD that I bought. thank you so much!
Hi Jorge.
I had a similar problem.
With regards to your new sd card that you created....
Here's my own take.
1. I created a new sd card by using the wrong image (from anbernic's website) and using rufus. (so point 1 is.. you need to make sure the image you used is correct!?)
An incorrect sd card installation will not boot. (stupid huh)
2. The next day.. I tried creating an image using rufus from the original sd card on my pc saving it as a vhdx file or something. After the image was created.. I burned the image using rufus back onto the new SD card. GREAT!. when I inserted the new sd card.. it worked.
3. Noticing that my 64gb card only using 16gb due to the image copy.. .I decided to resize the game partition on the new sd card. I used the suggested partitioning software magic something. What happened??? the resizing of the gaming partition caused the sd card to no longer boot.
Sooo.... it's lame. If there is a small issue with your newly created sd card.. (and even if using the wrong type of sd card)... your anbernic may not boot.
In the end... I used anbernic's download site to download the correct firmware.
Assuming your model is rg35xx:
win.anbernic.com/download/270.html
But you can go to the main download page if your model is something else.. Mine is RG353V which is slightly different I believe. (the downloaded stock firmware needs to be unzipped the imaged using something like rufus)
Regardless.. hopefully the new sd card that you create is working.
If you press reset. Wait a minute. Then try to boot up the sd card... assuming the new sd card was created properly.. it will power on.
Again.. I've tried 2 methods with success...
1. Create an backup vhdx image (from original sd) using rufus... then use the vhdx image to burn onto the NEW sd card.
2. I've used the stock downloaded firmware image downloaded from anbernic's download site. Once downloaded.. I unzipped the image file and used rufus to burn the image to the NEW sd card.
I can only think it's not powering correctly is one of 2 things...
1. sometimes you need to press the reset button once. then you can power it with the new sd card.
2. the newly created sd card is bad for some reason...
Good luck. I wish I could help. On a side note.. you could try custom firmware.. it's talked abit on youtube... but I've never tried it. I was happy just running stock because I wanted to make sure if the sd card ever failed I could restore it.
-------------------------
As for your charging issue. Yes..for now.. you will need to have your original sd card inserted while you try to charge your console.
a. sadly.. it might be a defect of the system (hardware issue).
b. but maybe try a different USB C cable
c. Maybe try a different power adapter.
I've read online that the anbernic gaming console can be picky... even people have suggested pressing reset button once before charging. I know mine has issues too.. as it can never charge to 100%. Mine stops around 90%...sigh.
@@angrymathdude Hello!! Thank you very much for your response, I appreciate it!
The truth is that I don't have much control over these issues of computers and programs, and I don't understand some of the things you tell me very well, but I appreciate the gesture. From what I understand and based on the fact that it has happened to more people, apparently it is not just my problem, but something that I did wrong or did not do. Basically what I did was "copy and paste" the files from one SD to another, but from what I see, it's not that simple...
I will try to watch videos and help me with what you explain to me in your comment and see if I can do it correctly and be able to use the SD card that I bought and thus be able to solve the loading problems or some other subsequent problems that the card that came with the device may give me. console that is of poor quality.
Thank you very much again, I greatly appreciate the help. 👍
@@angrymathdude what if i also deleted the stock os :/
@kumuri_keebs you can reinstall the firmware downloading stock from anbernic's website.
Requirements include: working laptop/desktop, sd card reader if your laptop/desktop doesn't have one , internet connection
win.anbernic.com/download/
1. Find the model that corresponds to your handheld game system.
2. Download firmware
3. You will need a sd card burning software, per anbernic.. I used Rufus (free)
4. insert sd into card reader (or laptop sd card reader)
5. Open Rufus. Select sd card drive. Select firmware image. Click Ok
6. When rufus is done restoring the stock image... just insert the sd card back into your anbernic hand held. It will finalize setting up the sd card with stock software.
Otherwise.. it might be easier to return the device as defective and reorder the same game system if you got it off amazon.
Good luck.

Hi Marel... it's possible something happened to the SD card that you were using for your games.
Is the sd card that has your games in slot 2? And is this the original SD card that came when you bought it.. or is this a custom sd card (something new you made)?
Yes the one that it came with is in slot 1 and the one I put in to add games is in slot 2 I just tried again an now i literary have 0 games on it 🤦🏽♂️
@@marelthomas9438 I'm not sure if you're handy with a computer... but there are a few things you can try if you haven't already...
1. Hook up the sd card to your computer with a sd card reader. Then see if you can copy the game rom's and use them on your computer... (this might be too difficult.. and I understand).
2. What I'm trying to figure out. is if the slot 2 drive isn't working.. or if it's just a failure in the sd card.
3. If you have a micro sd card of any size available.. you can format it to fat32.. then copy games onto it.. using the same file format as used by slot 2.
4. If options 1-3 aren't doable.. then it's probably best to contact the seller to see if it can be exchanged or warrantied. This isn't normal.. I've owned mine for a few months and I haven't had a failure like this. It's highly possible the SD card failed.. but we would need to verify the card can't be read or became erased somehow...
Good luck.
