- Tiger Electronics did an impressive job of getting a wide range of games for their console, the Game.com, such as Sonic Jam, a collection of levels from the first Sonic games. The only problem? The Game.com is an unspeakably terrible console.

The Game.com is a fifth-generation handheld game console released by Tiger Electronics in August 1997. A smaller version, the Game.com Pocket Pro, was released in mid-1999. The first version of the Game.com can be connected to a 14.4 kbit/s modem for Internet connectivity, hence its name referencing the top level domain .com. It was the first video game console to include a touchscreen and the first handheld console to include Internet connectivity. The Game.com sold less than 300,000 units and was discontinued in 2000 because of poor sales.

Sonic Jam is a video game compilation developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega for the Sega Saturn. It was released in Japan in June 1997, and in North America and Europe two months later. It contains the four main Sonic the Hedgehog games released on the Sega Genesis: Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and Sonic & Knuckles. It also features a 3D environment, "Sonic World", which acts as an interactive museum of Sonic the Hedgehog content.

I owned a game com and this damn game as a kid. Great to know 20 years later that it is actually possible to get up that tree as Sonic. I was never able to do it.

The bars in Mushroom Hill you dont jump off of on your own in the actual Sonic and Knuckles either.
It's not that the physics are wrong, it's that in this particular location, they screwed up its interaction with other objects (enemies), making it an impossible obstacle.
Thank god for the Sega Nomad. I will stick to playing the classic trilogy on the Genesis and not Sonic Jam on Game.com. Tiger Electronics, shame on you!
What do you gain, from the Bonus stage. chaos emeralds? Do you get something special if you collect them all?

The actual answer is that I got busy. This is a tertiary hobby and takes a lot of time. In theory I'm still working on the next Obscuros Ludos video. In practice, it's been several years in that state.

What's bizarre about that tree is, its actual Sonic 3 counterpart mostly doesn't have that problem; spin-dashing at any point other than the very edge will send you into the proper animation.
Also, the mechanic of the spin dash limiting your speed is indeed present in the original games, but implemented in a much less idiotic way. In the actual games, the spindash would've carried you up that hill.
I definitely commend the effort put into this game, but nobody could've ever made a good game under these circumstances. Not when the hardware itself is actively WORSE than the Game Boy (which at least had a decent framerate and much less ghosting).

Well, this video is now dated, since Paramount redesigned Sonic's character for the Sonic Movie, which resulted in that movie being the most successful movie based on a video game.
Thanks for this review and for having the guts to play it on actual hardware! Yes, this is easily the worst sonic game ever made.
It actually looks like a bootleg, but I would say it is worse than those gameboy sonic bootlegs. Unbelievable how this was licensed.
I could only imagine what a disappointment it was. I wonder how Mario would be on this thing? Probably not great, but I’m sure it would be better than this.

As a late 1990s kid, I would try to play it and while I played it the physics doesn’t make sense so I would never get another cartridge again!

Truly the perfect design aesthetic for a Sonic game.
