      CIA Tibetan program
In October 1998, the Dalai Lama's administration acknowledged that it received $1.7 million a year in the 1960s from the U.S. government through a Central Intelligence Agency program.[219] When asked by CIA officer John Kenneth Knaus in 1995 to comment on the CIA Tibetan program, the Dalai Lama replied that though it helped the morale of those resisting the Chinese, "thousands of lives were lost in the resistance" and further, that "the U.S. Government had involved itself in his country's affairs not to help Tibet but only as a Cold War tactic to challenge the Chinese."[220]
His administration's reception of CIA funding has become one of the grounds for some Chinese newspapers[221][222] and Western scholars[223] to discredit him along with the Tibetan independence movement.
In his autobiography Freedom in Exile, the Dalai Lama criticized the CIA again for supporting the Tibetan independence movement "not because they (the CIA) cared about Tibetan independence, but as part of their worldwide efforts to destabilize all communistgovernments".[224]
In 1999, the Dalai Lama said that the CIA Tibetan program had been harmful for Tibet because it was primarily aimed at serving American interests, and "once the American policy toward China changed, they stopped their help."[225]
      Chinese criticisms
      Ties to India

Stone Plaque at a plantation by Tenzin in Amaravathi
The Chinese press has criticized the Dalai Lama for his close ties with India. His 2010 remarks at the International Buddhist Conference in Gujarat saying that he was "Tibetan in appearance, but an Indian in spirituality" and referral to himself as a "son of India" in particular led the People's Daily to opine, "Since the Dalai Lama deems himself an Indian rather than Chinese, then why is he entitled to represent the voice of the Tibetan people?"[226] Dhundup Gyalpo of the Tibet Sun replied that Tibetan religion could be traced back to Nalanda in India, and that Tibetans have no connection to Chinese "apart ... from a handful of culinary dishes".[227] The People's Daily stressed the links between Chinese Buddhism and Tibetan Buddhism and accused the Dalai Lama of "betraying southern Tibet to India".[226] In 2008, the Dalai Lama said for the first time that the territory India claims and administers as part of Arunachal Pradesh is part of India, citing the disputed 1914 Simla Accord.[228]
      Shugden controversy
      Main article: Dorje Shugden controversy
The Dorje Shugden Controversy reappeared in the Gelug school by the publication of the Yellow Book in 1976, containing stories about wrathful acts of Dorje Shugden against Gelugpas who also practiced Nyingma teachings. In response, the 14th Dalai Lama, a Gelugpa himself and advocate of an "inclusive" approach to the teachings of Tibetan Buddhism,[229][230] started to speak out against the practice of Dorje Shugden in 1978.[231]
The controversy has attracted attention in the West because of demonstrations held in 2008 and 2014 by Dorje Shugden practitioners. A 2015 Reuters investigation determined "that the religious sect behind the protests has the backing of the Communist Party" and that the "group has emerged as an instrument in Beijing's long campaign to undermine support for the Dalai Lama".[232] After the Reuters investigation revealed that China backs it, the Shugden group halted operations and disbanded.[233]
      Gedhun Choekyi Nyima
In April 2018, the Dalai Lama confirmed the official Chinese claims about Gedhun Choekyi Nyima by saying that he knew from "reliable sources" that the Panchen Lama he had recognized was alive and receiving normal education. He said he hoped that the Chinese-recognised Panchen Lama (Gyaincain Norbu) studied well under the guidance of a good teacher, adding that there were instances in Tibetan Buddhist tradition, of a reincarnated lama taking more than one manifestation.[234][235]

This happened to me twice before in this lifetime, so I know I will be back on the path even stronger than ever cuz each time I've always came back stronger than before, with even higher awakenings than the last. Idk why this descension into the dark happens to me but there is a reason for it becuz if there wasn't, this would not happen to a guy who gave his life to do the creator's work. I wish to learn the reason why and wish for this not to happen again. No matter how hard i try I just can't get started back. It is weird.

Very good story about the Dalai Lama and the value of meditation. I saw him give a talk at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco years ago, and the energy there was very powerful.
Near the end, he told Dan Harris he enjoyed watching animal videos. A couple of decades ago, he and wilderness photographer Galen Rowell collaborated on the book, My Tibet. The Dalai Lama made sure Galen included photos of the Himalayan wildlife, and reportedly selected some of the images for publication.

“Om Mani Padme Hum” is what Gautama Buddha AKA Prince Siddhartha of the Shakyamuni clan meditated on. When one of his disciples asked him what is the meaning of life, he simply smiled, pretended to pick up a lotus and said “Om mani Padme hum/ the jewel in the lotus”
The lotus (aka Padma, Kamala) is a powerful symbol that everyone of all ages and faiths and nationalities can explore and look into - it is the big secret. The one who understands the lotus is very powerful.

I'm grateful to watch such a quiet and easy to hear interview with The Dalai Lama. If I could ask him one question in regards to his perception of our country's current President, it would be - Wouldn't it be more compassionate to pay a visit to the current leader of the Free World instead of making an exception to his Altruism in case such a visit might have some profound influence on the man and his politics? Do we not lead by example, teach by example? Does your (I know this is more than one question) style of compassion and altruism include deciding who does not deserve compassion, inner peace or your help?
I personally am moved by your example overall and appreciate the reminders of inner peace, mindfulness and the practice of meditation. I would be most grateful if you were to bless our President with your presence.

The dalai Lama's example of compassionate leadership is sorely needed. But remember that most every person is a leader in someone else's eyes. That gives us all reason to show compassion. In my work as a mental health therapist the most important tool in my toolbox is compassion. I never realized it on my own. I know this because of hearing it from many of my clients. So, I like something Dr Phil used to say. He said if you have to choose between being right and being kind always choose being kind. I agree. It's not always easy. But that's where discipline comes in. And that is an example of being compassionate.

@Robyn Justice Historically, Tibet has never been a part of China. Tibet was forcibly occupied by the People’s Republic of China from 1950 to 1959.

That he thereby displays a bearing of political power is studiously overlooked by the supporters of the Dalai Lama, as it also is that he drives his followers into need and misery and even often to death with his infamous deeds, which makes no difference at all to him and is calculatingly included in his actions. It's important to remember in doing Tonglen, breathing in the suffering of others and breathing out the sending of comfort and love to them, that you include President Trump. Despite his bravado and devotion to his mission despite so much opposition, you can believe he is suffering greatly and needs compassion.

    • @scottb.6168
      @scottb.6168 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

No. I do not believe. I can send him compassion without having to delude myself into thinking that Trump cares about anything except himself. He does not.

    • @ooohlaa13

@@scottb.6168 It's not about evaluating if a person is worth it, compassion is spiritual, and includes everyone does not reduce them to their flaws but understands the human condition we are all trapped in and the dilemma of extending kindness without making someone have to earn it. No one is perfect and we are all a work in progress each stumbling and bumbling in our own way.. Compassion says I see you are a child of God llike me and the part of me that is good and decent sees and recognizes the same part of you that is good, and I forgive and understand that everyone is at a different level of awareness and has many gifts and faults. Otherwise you are just judging and evaluating someone on what they did, not who they are. There is a great Buddhist poem about this by Thich Nhat Hahn that explains compassion better than I can. It's called "Call Me By My True Names", you can find it online. Not lecturing you just explaining that compassion is like the sun it does not judge, it shines on all. Otherwise its not compassion, it is just sympathy which is emotional, and evaluates, not spiritual. Something like that.

BarbaraL Lowell Well, yes. That is indeed a lecture. A condescending one at that. I didn’t realize that your understanding of compassion is the definitive one. The truth is the truth. Trump has caused incalculable suffering: children in cages, tens of thousands of unnecessary deaths from Covid-19 & now millions unemployed (due to his inaction), environmental destruction, corruption on an unprecedented scale, thousands of lies, his bullying and disdain for the weak and vulnerable....one could go on for hours. And yet, despite all of this wanton infliction of pain upon the undeserving and innocent, yes, he is still as deserving of love and compassion as any other sentient being. But, let us not pretend that he has not done what he has done, all for the sake of his own greed, will to power and personal enrichment. He is a stain on this Republic. And as an aside, despite the horrific treatment of the Tibetans by the Chinese, if you read some history you will soon discover the horrific treatment of the Tibetans by their fellow Tibetans during the long period of feudalism and class oppression that preceded the Chinese invasion. There is no end to human cruelty, my dear. The Buddha himself said: This world is like dog’s tail. It doesn’t stay straightened but for the briefest of moments. I choose to keep the Eyes open as well as the Heart. ✊🏾🙏

@@scottb.6168 Both Dalai Lama and Thich were horribly abused and mistreated and they do not hold back their compassion for their predators, just saw Dala the other night and he said he would forgive all the perpetrations by those who did not yet have the eyes to see and he was smiling and joyful about it. I am just pointing the arrow in a different direction, kind of like the buck stops here otherwise I am perpetuating the very thing I am being judgmental about. But as you wish, I am just making a contribution from my heart since you addressed me about it. Namaste.

Are you your thoughts ??...or are you the observer of your thoughts ?....the mind or ego is nothing but a bundle of thoughts ,
the space between thoughts , where one ends and the next one begins ( meditation,...no thoughts or pure conciousness) is samadhi.
Think deeply about this , until you realize you are not your thoughts ,.... you truly are the observer of your thoughts. The space between thoughts is the sound of a silent mind or ego.

I can’t imagine my life without your teaching and blessings. Thanking you so much and forever grateful Holiness 🙏💐.I wish more people would come to know your teaching about life and as a human being... we all are same who want happiness ... do not want suffering...if you can’t able to help others . Don’t harm others ... be mindful to each other and we are all interconnected . Our basic needs is love and be compassionate to one another.
