Charles would often complain about traveling in the early hours from his home in New Jersey to the radio station in NYC. Finally when worn beyond frazzled I think he decided life has so much more to offer and he simply retired. Imus's greatest regret was that Charles left the show. By the way I not certain what Sam Katz is attempting to prove when he posts "he has no sense of humor about himself" since Rob and Tony would often tell Imus that his "colostomy bag was full and it needed emptying" and that they hoped the "old fossil would cough his lungs up". I was never a dedicated follower of the Don Imus show but the guy was self deprecating and had a great sense of humor about himself.
