- Mike Francesa called into WFAN in New York to talk about the passing of radio legend Don Imus.
Don Imus, the legendary radio talk show host who led WFAN's morning show for nearly 20 years, has died. He was 79.
The cowboy hat-wearing, foulmouthed and often-confrontational Imus rose to fame in the 1970s and '80s on WNBC Radio, where he famously clashed with Howard Stern. In 1988, "Imus in the Morning," which he hosted for a half-century overall, moved to WFAN. While WFAN was otherwise an all-sports station, Imus' show retained its all-around news and entertainment content. His show has been credited in helping the station establish its footing in the New York market by providing a highly rated lead-in to its other programming.

Thank you Don Imus for the 2007 apology to Al Sharpton (representative for all black people) the interaction was pure comedy. The only thing missing? The hats: the Imus cowboy hat and the Sharpton disco pimp hat. BTW: If C stands for Cr-ap, then S stands for Sh-arpton.
Mike's On first time I heard imus was with my parents in the car as they were taking me to the eye doctor at Columbia Presbyterian in the early 80’s I was hooked
The better comedy bits. The show lost something after fat Al Rosenberg left and he hired that fucking fascist, racist scumbag Bernard McJerkoff.
I remember one time he made mike Francesa squeal like pig on the air everybody was laughing out loud. This happen around late 90’s or maybe early 2000’s this was way before mike Francesa and Russo were on the map.
I grew up listening to Don Imus. I met him when I was in Junior High school. He was very nice. He was a pioneer in the radio industry. I miss the crazy characters that he did on WNBC. He will be greatly missed.
Imus In The Morning, was my morning routine on my way to work. My half hour each morning, was fun I needed. So many laughs. I respected him, and his sarcasm. His love for his Brother Fred came over the airwaves. The crew, Charles McCord, Rob Bartlett, Bernard Migirk, (spelling incorrect, sorry Bernard) Mike Breen, Larry Kenny, and Warner Wolf. I'm sure I'm forgetting others. Even when he was on TV, I watched. My condolences to his wife, sons and daughters. I keep watching videos, and I can't help but cry. He met his maker, and is no longer in pain.
Spent a number of years in the 90's listening to Imus in the morning and Mike & the Mad Dog going to & from work. Probably some of the best talk radio I ever had the pleasure to experience. Imus could be rude & crude but he was almost always entertaining & funny. I still listen to the Mad Dog on Sirius but miss those days on the garden state parkway.
Legendary broadcaster...God bless him and rest his soul.

He always got my day started on a bright note, I had some dark days and laughter is truly the best medicine!

I remembered Don Imus since in the 60 since I came to this United State ofAmerica, he was the Morning Radio and talk host. He will be missed and God will have his place ready to received him. We all should wish him lots of Love wherever he will be. Remember Love is what makes us who we are.

RIP, I-Man. As a radio Engineer building stations for 53 years, I always knew who Don Imus was and when I built my own station in Jackson Mississippi and I found out Imus was going syndicated, I couldn't wait to get on his, - Imus in the Morning Network which I eventually was able to do several years ago. We had a great audience during that time and I always appreciated his humor and his great contribution to radio broadcasting.
Start listening to Don Imus in the early 90’s and the name Mike Francesa used to be thrown around in the show I didn’t know who mike Francesa was at the time and here we are today to bad neither one of them is on the radio anymore:(

He was an amazing man. I got to meet him several times and arranged to have my wife Rose a Medical Doctor and my daughter Zelda work at the IMUS Ranch for part one one summer several years ago before the Ranch was sold.. This was all partially arranged by Charles McCord who connected me to Imus and Deidre and the Ranch administrators. I simply loved the guy he was so funny. . He made my day each morning and I looked forward to hearing Imus and Bernie, and Syd and Tony and Rob and Charles and Connell and Degan and the entire crew day. I would attend the various fundraisers and I was fully engaged as an Imus in the Morning Fan. I Will really miss you Imus. My sympathy to your family, Deidra and Wyatt and all the fans who will now endear your memory and legacy as our morning hero. It was a really great run. Rest in Peace old cowboy. Amen. McCord snapping at Imus was always great. Don would laugh like a madman because Chuck going off was hilarious.
I remember the morning he made the comment, and I said to myself this is not going to end well. What will always stand out to me, his how Mike and Chris put their jobs on the line right after, and on the air went after all of Imus's" so-called friends who turned around and bashed him. His comeback and what he did for so many charities in his later years. What I will remember and they are on TH-cam is when Charles would go off on him because of a simple complaint. It was hysterical.
He was real ! What he said most were thinking or at least believed !! He said things that were in appropriate but who in this world doesn't ?? He was forgiven and went on to work at what he loved, and left a legacy in radio that very few will !! RIP Imus ! Luv Ya !!

Don Imus was a cantankerous, abusive person who was also one of the most loving and caring person. he was a truly complex person; one worthy of an accurate biopic. I listened to Imus in the Morning every morning preparing for work in the morning and even taped the program so I could listen to what I missed when I got home from work. He flipped and flopped with the wind politically but he surrounded himself with some wonderfully funny people and that made his program so enjoyable. "Unique" is the appropriate description of him.
My favorite moment was Terry Bradshaw calling in. I remember he asked Bradshaw about his college degree, he asked Bradshaw if his college was a trade school , funny! Also will remember how Mike and dog stood by him during tough times, I became more a fan after that and Mike and Dog earned my respect.
I didn't know that Mike Francheska had the gift of gab. He could talk non stop.

The 1996 correspondents dinner when he ripped the Clintons to pieces.
In 1983, the Russian military shot a Korean passenger airliner out of the sky. In response, one morning when he was broadcasting from the WNBC radio studios at 30 Rock, he went out where the flags from various nations are flown and took down the Russian flag.
I remember listening that morning and his voice had been off the air for a while. Charles McCord read the news, commercials and sketches ran, etc., and then finally I heard Imus again, laughing maniacally.
From what I'd gathered, he'd had someone distract the security people just long enough so he could get the flag.
Ultimately what I think he did was sell squares of the flag for donations that were collected for a fund to donate to the victims' families (I think - memory's foggy). Between him and Charles, a scathing letter was penned to then Russian President Yuri Andropov and read by Imus on-air. I also think that anyone who donated was sent a small piece of the cut up flag. I loved imus though the years and there were so many moments. That's a relatively early one.
He spoke nonstop for 11:21.....the Pope has never heard of a comma or period.

Before he personally dicontined it he would set off bombs if anyone said anything stupid or did something stupid. Jet coach after botching a football game which resulted in a jet loss was blown up while he was commenting on the game. Another explosion victim was Chris "Mad Dog" Russo who was blow up after remarking about. Dan Marino being pulled after a poor performance against the football Giants. One line by Imus " Cause they were losing, they were trailing at the half, he couldn't complete a pass, that's why he's not in there" Imus blows up Russo. Pure classic exchange.
I admired the fact that he apologized to the Rutgers women basketball team. Also, he did a great job with his charity/ranch for the kids.

My favorite memory of Imus? It might be when he ripped off Stern and started being a shock jock after Howard came to town. There there the numerous accusations of racial slurs that Imus used, according to Stern, Robin Quivers, and Fred Norris. I'm talking about the REAL N word, not nappy-headed

Stern stole much of Imus shock jock shit. Listen to Imus in the early 1970s when Stern was still in school. Imus said controversial and outrageous things to callers and guests. I grew up in NY and followed both of their careers. Btw Howard's is one dimentional.
