XCELESTE is great ....And some songs have explanation videos...DKDKTV has the best "Explained by a Korean videos"...For the songs with Korean puns or sayings...sometimes just knowing the lyrics is not enough.....Like the songs "Ddaeng"."Ugh" and "Spring Day"....they have explanation videos

Glad you mentioned social and economic issues in society etc...you definitely gotta check out "Bapsae" lyric video and *"Bapsae Explained by a Korean"* by DKDKTV. They address those issues in one of their many songs that critique society etc. DKDKTV has a lot of explained videos that analyzes a lot of their songs. "Bapsae" is just one of many. 😁💜

To answer your question as to why BTS have such abnormal age demographic, I just genuinely think it's because of how relatable they are in their music, through their messages. BTS members debuted at such young age back in 2013, with the youngest member Jungkook was only 15 at the time. So naturally, their early fanbase consist of teenagers around that age. And since you haven't really indulge much into their discography, I'd like to give a bit spoiler. The entire journey of their discography actually follows the natural flows of life. Their early albums around their debut talk of school, young love, rebellions and discovering new world. Then as they grow into their 20s, they talk about growth, anxieties, temptation and youth in their music. Then the topic grows more into self-love, self-acceptance, self-discovery which will be very evident in their Love Yourself album series. And the topics just go on and on, each time developing into something more relatable to people of their age. In their BE album, for another example, is an album made in quarantine. Talks about the feelings and emotions you feel when you're trapped inside your house. And now as evident in Butter and PTD, they just want to make happy music that can help people go through everyday life. So, what I want to say here is that, BTS' music is for everyone, for every age. You could be stuck in your teenage dream and you can easily find a BTS song from Dark&Wild album to resonate with it. You may be someone in your 20s who dont know what you want to do in your life, then the song Paradise will tell you its okay not to have a dream. You may be someone in your 40s, trying to start a new life then you find BTS telling you its okay to go slow. It's comforting for people to have an artist who can put into words of how you feel. At least for me, I can almost find a BTS song that I can relate to if Im ever stuck in ANY situation. I'm pretty sure most ARMYs agree with me on this. Wow I talk a lot haha bye I hope it makes sense

Its true. Rm has said that you find BTS when you need them the most and that has been so true for me. I was at a point of life where i joined college but i was struggling to find my place with no one to talk to in a new city. I used to sit in my dorm and not talk to anyone. Started taking up bad habits like smoking and was falling into depression. Thays when i found them. Ihave a tendency to latch onto some artist and forget about my problems but then i listened to epiphany and promise, answer, paradise, magic shop and their whole ly msg and for the first time i felt so comforted by music that i cant even understand. I was having a toxic relationship and songs like tear and seesaw saved my life. I was on a path of self destruction but bts saved my life and i know every1 has their own story.

I will tell you why BTS appeals to me-as a 44 year old woman.
Part of it is because as we get older, I think we are better able to both recognize and appreciate sincerity. And BTS are nothing if not sincere in their passion for their art, their commitment to make a difference, and their love for ARMY. They have consistently been themselves, with all their insecurities and flaws.
Secondly: BTS' sing about LIFE-not just love, sex, heartbreak and partying-but real LIFE issues, like depression, loneliness, self-doubt, self-LOVE, not having direction or a dream, feeling stuck in your life, fears of moving on in life, temptation...I could go on and on. But even though they started out writing for young people, from a young person's perspective, all those issues ALSO resonate with older adults too...those kinds of experiences and thoughts and feelings don't just go away when you turn 30 or 40 or 50...we still feel hopeless, or stuck, of scared. We still deal with mental health issues, we still doubt ourselves, we still struggle to love ourselves and understand our world. BTS sings about and speaks to the human condition, and that is why they resonate with people from so many different age groups.

On the toxic comment, as an Army I know some Armies can be toxic I cannot defend them..but Real Armys who take the message from BTS aren't toxic, we know it's okay not to like BTS as people have unique taste in music, you like them and you'll declare yourself as Army member when you want to, you shouldn't be forced, please react to what you like those who want to watch and support will do so..BTS fandom is not toxic it's just some people who ruin things. Another thing about BTS is they never take us for granted. They always work so hard for us because we worked hard for them. That's also our reason, we work hard because they work hard for us. We're literally giving back to each other. The success they have right now, it's all organic. And whenever they get an award, they always mention ARMY at some point. They tell us congratulations. They will say "This is what you've accomplished ARMY!" and that's why we feel attached to them because they made us feel special, cherished, and loved.

I would also note that around 4:55 or so when you were talking about Bang PD-nim calling them "boys"-at the time that was said, they literally WERE boys, ranging in age from 15-20 when they debuted.
But beyond that, as someone who's spent a lot of time in Asia, and has been deep into the east Asian music scene since 1993, I agree with what you said about the systematic infantilization and emasculation of Asian men. 100%

BTS songs are relatable for any age ranges. I love their deep lyrics. BTS has has song about economic crisis that you mentioned. They are also more authentic.

I'm going to try and answer you as we go along
    1. 2:15 Age appeal - There are 2 parts to it. One is the lyrical focus of their songs. Two is the way they connect with fans. BTS has always been equally appreciative of fans of all ages and I think they have an innately welcoming vibe (Disclosure: I'm 30+)
    2. 4:40 Bang PD referred to them as boys because they really were boys. By international age, they were 14 - 19. He was targeting the youth as an audience when they began. He wanted to create positive role models.
    3. 17:22 I think there is also the aspect of them compromising with each other to find that balance. In today's world there is a percentage of the world that thinks some of it is a sort of magical fit that happens without any work put in by the parties involved.
    4. 28:30 I strongly recommend you check out "School of Tears". It was a song written on top of Kendrick Lamar's Swimming Pools about the way society treats school culture.
    5. 30:00 No harm speaking up on the toxic side of the fanbase. In actuality it is a small percentage of the fandom. The issue is that there is no such as "small" in Army. The sheer volume of the fanbase means that a small percentage is still huge in absolute numbers. As a fanbase, Army was forced into the corner A LOT in the early days. Even now, you see a lot of hate for BTS in the various platforms (Ask any Army and they'll tell you a recent story. The hate is continuous). This has made the fanbase defensive to a point where there is a lack of self control. I think that sucks as an Army but just like in every fandom, the good ones speak up on this. But change doesn't happen in a single day and there isn't anything the fanbase can really do about the toxic fans.
    6. 30:30 Most Army are grateful you gave BTS a chance and that you are so erudite and eloquent. I should warn you that some of those comments may not necessarily be from Army. Other fanbases have been saying this in people's channels to "warn/discourage" them because Army tends to post a lot of video requests.
    7. 36:00 The entire BTS involvement with BLM was a very interesting case. US Army has a sizeable percentage of African Americans and they had hoped for BTS's statement on BLM because of their roots being hiphop. During that time, Big Hit was researching organizations to donate to and verifying that their donations would be put to good use. This caused a delay in their release of the statement. In that time, huge fights broke out within the fandom itself where some fans didn't want BTS to get involved with BLM since they were still struggling to gain recognition in the US while fans of African descent really wanted BTS to stand up to show their words meant something (The UN speech was about equality). Eventually the tweet came up and the news of the donation broke. With AAPI as well, they were late by a week or 2. From what I have seen, Big Hit & BTS never do anything in a rush. But when they do something, it's in full conviction. But in today's fast paced world, they can be seen as slow to the uptake.
The BTS & Army relationship is something relatively unique in this industry. Because Army puts money where their mouth is. You are watching Rise of Bangtan so you will understand the difference soon. But the fandom collectively raised BTS to popularity. But its not done expecting something in return (well except their music & videos. Army loves BTS content). But Army is also convinced that BTS music can change the world. So the ones who mainly try to lord it over others about the success of BTS etc, bragging, demeaning other artists blah blah.. usually they've let anger get to them. But otherwise Army likes positivity. That's why despite some toxic elements, the fandom is unshaken. Because Army tends to look only at BTS and vice versa. Give it a month and you'll see exactly what I mean. You cannot escape the experience.

They have a lot of content on dependency, healthy, unhealthy, necessary etc. Especially in the BU - a fictional storyline where all the members have a full psychological profile (built partly on their own personalities - remotely, but it seems connected in my opinion), and this story follows a group of friends which falls apart, all of them with individual tragic circumstances. Trust me, you will have a chance to talk about this more. And keep in mind that when they have a love song, it doesn't necessarily mean romantic love. More often it could be friendship, family, self-love or just general feeling of affection.

I am from the Netherlands, and I just graduated from university. I studied cultural sciences and did a minor in racial and gender studies, hence why i ended up writing my thesis about BTS. I honestly really appreciate your thoughts and the explanations that you put in these videos. Even though I am white and a heterosexual woman, I tend to be very conscious about race, gender and identities in general. More so how other people think that they can decide your identity for you instead of forming your own. The latter is what I soooo appreciate about BTS. Every single day, and that is not an exaggeration, they work so extremely hard for not only themselves. Their work actually does inspire ARMYs to self-reflect, find strength, get to know who they are, and no matter who they turn out to be at the end of that journey, there is a place where they are respected and loved. That is the kind of group BTS are. They are not only people who say things and do things in hopes of achieving something, they stand by their word and are respectful and sincere. I don't think I have seen any men in my whole life who have been so vulnerable and sincere yet honest, strong and empowering. Conclusion: I'm in this bangtan shit for life😎💜

The South Korean 'hierarchy' system is all based on respect and age. You might notice as u get into BTS more and other Korean content that they tend to bow a lot, the deeper the bow, the more respect it signals. Along with this, as In studying Korean myself even in the language itself there is casual language and formal language, casual language is to be spoken to younger people while the formality grows as you speak to ur boss, the elderly etc. Generally in South Korea older people are regarded with more respect while younger people are sometimes put down. BTS also conveys this dynamic in their song 'Baepsae' and similar themes in other songs like 'N.O.' and probably others too. Hopefully this was helpful💜😊

I'm 31, I'm far from being a screaming teenager and I honestly didn't have a boy band phase. I've always loved music but I have never been this emotionally invested and involved in an artist's journey.
The BTS appeal for me is their sincerity and the message in their music. Mostly, I genuinely like who they are as people and believe they work so hard so they deserve it all. I also think they are very accessible and care for their fans, hence the strong relationship. What is their appeal??? It's them, their humanity.
Other artists are inaccessible and they become these celebrities that are untouchable, but BTS feels more like a friend, a pen pal, a companion - it's a long distance relationship but it's symbiotic.

There are toxic people in ARMYs as well. We're just a group of people of different personalities, views and culture who like these seven boys maybe more than other artists or even people. Some are obsessive, some over protective, some are charitable, some stalkers, some really toxic, some a little less toxic, some are balanced, some careful, some really loving.

idts we can actually do anything about those 5% tbh. our fandom is so huge, we have tried several times but those aspects don't ever go away. they have obviously increased over the years as bts grew larger too. sort of inevitable i guess. it's better to ignore them TT

There's definitely nothing we can do. There are terrible people in the world and with a fandom the size of ours, we are bound to have some. We are the size of a relatively large country and I'm sure there's no country without crime or people who just spread pure hatred. All we can do is make our voices and actions louder than theirs

Sometimes I doubt if all of these toxic fans are actually “fans” of bts. You never know these days. Other people can go to lengths to give fandoms or artists a bad name. Also if they are really fans of BTS as they call themselves then they know this kind of negativity is not what BTS is about and not what they stand for. Even if the 5% May seem noisiest, hope you stay focused on the 95% that are positive and supportive of your journey. ☺️
And hey, if you do react to other artists or have other content, it’s your channel. You do you ☺️💜

Hi Manny, I enjoyed ur reactions, ur authentic and genuine... and u never seize to amaze me with ur bright ideas💜💜💜... By the way, am a 42 year old baby army☺️... Just got into BTS at the start of the pandemic last year, around april... So, I am one of those older ones, shall I say... I was once a fan of NSYNC and the BACKSTREET BOYS back in the days, but never been this engaged like this with BTS... Before I was like, ohh there's nsync and bsb dropping new songs, and that's it... But with BTS, they hit hard, especially with the fans... They are engaged with their fans... From their humble beginnings till now, they are the same... They stayed grounded and humble... And never forget to thank the army's for everything that they have achieved... Aside from their deep and moving lyrics, they are amazing performers, and humble human beings, and most of all they are funny... I don't know, but these guys, just watching them, brightens up my day even more... And what's remarkable about them, is that they keep telling us to love ourselves... Which makes me respect them even more, for their messages and for them as a person... I don't know, but for me personally, BTS is way way different from other artists out there... Sorry for the long rant... Anyways, loved ur reactions, and looking forward too... Keep it coming... BORAHAE💜💜💜

You should watch the live performance with English subtitles. I love this song, it's beautiful but a little funny to me even though it's not funny, you'll know what I mean if you watch the performance with lyrics.

I’m 44, my 15 yr old and I are both army and to be honest I am the more hardcore fan at the moment as she is a multi fan. I think the reason I love them is their music has so many amazing messages while they are also amazing to watch perform. On top of that, they have so much behind the scenes content that shows us just how humble and kind they all are- I just love them…they bring me up when I’m having a bad day, just as they do for my daughter. 💜💜💜💜

I wasn’t prepared to the journey I’d had in front me. I started to watch their videos, and the music just hit me in the stomach! The more I listen to the more I wanted to know. And I didn’t knew what they were singing about, but they sang so beautiful and the rapper just smashed it. Then add their dancing skills and I was sold! When I search BTS, then I knew I had a really good summer before me❣️☀️😎

3:42 solely my opinion and point of view.
I think it is ESSENTIAL to call them a boyband. The same way I believe it is ESSENTIAL that we stop putting so much weight on titles.
This is how society has gotten away from humanity and is now an artificial, economic conclusion.
They are absolutely a boyband. They are 7 grown men that make socially conscious music, make artistic choices for their albums and are crazy talented. It is not supposed to be a negative connotation. Boyband by definition refers to a group of young men that sing and dance. BTS fall under that. People want to feel superior by belitering the meaning of words.
I have always felt that labels are used to maintain our lazy tendency to not get to know a subject or person.
The labels and the stereotypes attached to someone is what let's you know who they are, as opposed to paying attention to the individual.
Zodiac Signs tells you their personality
    Professions tell you their worth
Legal status Tells you their past.
Sexual Orietarion tells you their Identity.
    It is Absurd.
We put entirely too much weight on titles which take away the history every person carries. Generalizing and Judging are important traits of our psychology, but only to an extent. It should not be a crutch we use to deem someone worth our time.
And this is why I am all for calling them a K-POP Boy Band. Because it is what they are as a lable and it doesn't matter one bit. You get to see what they bring once you give them the chance, regardless of a damn label. And this is true for everyone and everything.
This is something I pay attention to, not only regarding BTS, but simply observing my history and environments in general.
It does not have to mean anything to others, but it matters to me. 😌💜
    I won't apologize for the rant. 😁

I think the reason why BTS fans are so diverse it's not because of "just" their music, it's because of how the music that they do clearly resonated with every one of us. The message and how sincere it was made us so feel the connection with them. Their sincerity in performing and creating music is on another level. They made sure that it is a song that wasn't only related to us but also to them. In a current world where music is all about the trend and the hype. BTS is creating a new type of music that is not only good in our ears but also can pierce through our hearts.
And that was made this fandom so diverse. It was not music that is just "loud" but the music created with a sincere and heartfelt message that can resonate with every age, gender, and race.

Yes I went to 3 BTS concerts and everytime it was such an experience. Firstly, already at that time it was the hunger games to get tickets (3 times my father and I failed, it was my friend that succeeded in entering the website to buy for both of us) it's crazy, the second websites open, if you don't have the fastess wifi ever, you end up being 100 000 in the waiting list.
Secondly, the emotions I felt there, they are so strong, you feel ALIVE, and you feel UNITED, you feel united with the thousands of people around you from every age/nationality/gender/races/sexual identity, whatever all that doesn't matter, we are all together to celebrate love and life and bts, with our lighting Army Bomb in hand that are all linked together forming beautiful colors and rainbows. Even if you are far from the stage, you see all those people it's beautiful.
Near me was a super energetic grand mother with green hair that was so full of life. When Bts was singing the Truth Untold, a spanish woman was crying big tears next to me for personal reason and that made me cry for her and for my own personal issues at that time. But just after, the rapline came in with "Tears" and got us hyped up again and fighting our inner thoughts that things can become better if we put work to it.
And Bts always take time to talk to us during their concerts, I love that.
Also one thing that is tattooed in my memory is their fascinated faces when they heard what french people do in concert (or sport matches): tapping our foot on the ground to make noise, it's a way to show our excitement ! Yoongi said at first he thought it was an earthquake! But then they were all so excited and asked us to do it again and they were smiling so wide. It really is a pretty memory 😊
And while waiting for the concert to start , the right side of the stadium started to say "So show me" and the other side "I'll show you" (lyrics from a bts song they wrote fo army) and idk how we did it in such a huge stadium without it being prepare at all, but we were so synchronized it was so cool how humans can do beautiful things when together.
So yeah, when you go to a bts concert you can really see all ages and feel alive! 💜
The thing that is hard after a concert is the down feeling you have the next day, it's like your body felt so much things at once that now it is empty x)) post-concert blues haha
Thanks for the reaction Manny !💜

I love music, different kinds of music, and I am 51 years old my daughter she called herself an Army , the first time I heard their song, I felt something in my heart ... their music is nice to hear... there's one particular voice linger in my ears and mind .. I ask her if there's a girl in the group , she told me that No Mom , they are all 7 boys ... Ah okay, then I ask one by one who and what is the name of member and I watched them really confused ... then I see Jimin the charming and cute boy ... and I heard he sings high note... That's him the voice I liked. from them on I search and watch videos of them...every night , every vacant time I have I watched I like them all, the pain, hardship, stress , struggles they suffered a lot . But in all their suffering you can see the funny side, love and caring to each other, playing like a little kids while working. , The hardship will pay ... even though their famous and rich they are still down to earth and respectful boys. They deserved all of that. I like them all but I have (1) one heart, special eyes to Jimin his EXTRA MOVES makes him standout the most FOR ME . The Cuteness, being Charming, the most Caring, being thoughtful and a gift giver to all of them, the cake fairy , so graceful but fearless in stage. I treat Him as my son, feeling happy for his parents, they have a soft kindhearted Son. His parents is great , all He have is coming from his humble and loving parents. All the achievements he got is a reward to them.
All the concert, practices, bon voyage, In the Soop, Run Bts ..... etc... I watched them all.. Never failed in a single day that I didn't watch them. , even if I'm working I played no ads bts playlist ... luckily I have a supportive husband .. I hope when this pandemic end we can go to South Korea to visit Busan the hometown of Jimin , to meet his parents or his father who runs their Restaurant .

There are toxic fans in every fandom. Because army is really strong online, even if some small stuff happen, thousands of people tweet and all of this trends. The problem comes when someone is racist towards bts or something equally unfair and when everyone is calling them out, there is always this small vocal toxic fans who sent them death threats and shit and they use that to paint the entire fandom as toxic and use victim of death threat card to escape the spotlight on them and not apologize for the shit they do.

I personally think why people from all ages love them is because their music is special. Not like any other normal kpop songs. They cares. They cares about society, mental health and many other things which touches people from all around thr world. Not to mention their hilarious personalities lol You'll get there if u start learning about them more about how chaotic they can be😂 but anyways, I'm 15 and probably the youngest viewer on ur channel but I have many Army friends around 40s and 50s and even know an Army who's over 90:) I just love how beautiful this fandom is
Edit: Oh and also, we don't refer them as a boy band cause they're not. In kpop, there are only boy groups and girl groups. I don't think anyone use the word boy band there lol Plus, I personally prefer the word boy group more:)

Damn, i felt called out the times you gave a longer comment (about living through your idol,..) lol, very real talk.
You are very good in wording your thoughts & i can totally see why you resonate with Namjoon (RM).
Also, i love that you aren't like other reactors, i like your realness. Please don't ever change.
It might be hard to ignore the loud ones in your comments, but don't take those people too serious.
The fandom is big & there are many immature armys/antis. Do whatever you want and know the real ones will be here to support :))

"BTS finds you in time of need".
First time I heard of BTS was 2019, I live in London and they were in London for their tour (... I wish I had known better 😩...) and they were displayed everywhere in the massive screen in Piccadilly Square: which is a HUGE DEAL. But I was like "I'm too old for boybands, whatever".
February 2020 I was on twitter and trending was "BTS Grand Central Station Performance of ON" and I was like "you know what? Let's see what the big deal is about" and I must have watched that performance 10 times in a raw. I was shocked. I also listened to UGH and Filter the whole time during my Lockdown.
January 2021 for personal issues I just was at my all time low and I remembered a reaction to UGH on YT from a channel and THAT, their reaction to the band, made me want to look into them and I am not exaggerating when I say that they saved my 2021. Getting to know the band, listening to their music, understanding the struggle they went through and the achievements they were able to accomplish. They came to me when I needed them and THIS transcends age. I'm 34. Borahae Manny 💜.

Like others have said BTS music is just so relatable to people of all ages and backgrounds. And it's actually refreshing to hear music that has meaning and not just about having sex with whoever, getting high or drunk, bragging how rich and great they are, not cursing every other word or having girls half naked and shaking their a$$es in music videos. But I honestly think it's just they make good music that's versatile and they are incredible performers and extremely likable. Michael Jackson has fans of all ages too and nobody ever questioned why. I prefer male group to boy band.

I personally think the reason why BTS has a diverse age demographic fanbase is because of how they present themselves. Liking them for their music is one thing but liking them for their personalities, authenticity and ideals is another. I mean, let’s be honest, not all good artists are embodied with good manners and are authentic. I personally can’t be a fan of an artist that I don’t see as a good role model no matter how talented he/she is. I like how BTS is being human (making mistakes, being funny, being clumsy, getting sad, etc.) at the same time upholding proper conduct like being respectful, appreciative and sensitive to people around them. I encounter some comments of fans saying that they love them even before actually listening and understanding their music because of their personalities. Some parents who has an ARMY child becomes their fan too because they approve of them as their child’s role models. It’s kinda like sports.. you see, there’s a whole clan being a fan of a baseball or basketball team. That goes the same way with BTS.

I like the way you try to explain your point of view especially about life in general. I get what you mean when you said that Stan culture might cause a fan to be contented seeing their favorite artist achieving their dreams but not living their own lives. I think (most of the ARMYs will agree) that BTS music and message inspire a lot of people. For me personally, I was not happy with my former work before and felt stuck and not growing at all but was too afraid to let go because I was young back then but after hearing the song "No more dream" by BTS, it encouraged me to get out of that suffocating situation. I am still not sure what I want to do in my career and this stressed me so much before but I found comfort in the song "Paradise" by BTS. The song states that it is okay to not have a dream or to have little dreams as long as you're happy. Your happiness is the most important.

i think the most attractive thing in bts' art is thier honesty. people respect the sincerity, it's a link that connects people's minds, it's the trust that's important for all of us regardless of age. bts is the family to army, and you love your family either you're 15 or 55 💜 i don't know how to say it better than that they are the family for us. they are here when we need them, they support us to lead our lives, they let us cry when we feel like it and comfort us with the promise that tomorrow will be better. even if it's just music or online content. they mean it when they say they love armys and want to know our stories and worry about our well being. that's what the family is

Haha lets make a meeting and kick out that 5 person of army 🤣(wish it was possible). Anyways have a good day and if you see disrespectful and rude comment then delete or ignore them, those people are not ok and there not army, your amazing and I like that you also do reactions to other things.
Edit: xcelest made a video talking more about the army. I really recommed you to check it out as well as the "inside the most powerful fandom" video to get to know the fandom a little bit better.

In this I can speak for my self and my experience but probably a lot of people can relate I am a single mother of 41 and even for me is a surprise why I consider myself as an army I think I mentioned before I never been a fan of any artist or group in my adolescent age never but for me they are been a comfort, a refuge in my worst time and they always put an smile even if I am crying and the message they give to young people is good besides their talent of course we have to admit they're a complete package and now day is very difficult to find artist like this I just love them and respect people that take time to know them instead of critized them thank you 💜💜💜💜

Also, real quick to explain the use of "boy" in their case, he referred to them as boys because when they started they were boys, JK (JungKook) was around 14 when he joined BigHit/HYBE but 16 when he debuted and the oldest was Jin who was 18 when he joined and 20 when they debuted. Bangtan Sonyeondan means "Bulletproof Boy scouts" and the members have recently been pointing out how they indeed are not boys anymore and also been joking about becoming "Bulleproof Grandpas" 😂😂😂 as they would love to keep going on for a long time.💜.

I have been to a concert. I was lucky enough to be at the London wembley show day 2, where army surprised BTS by singing young forever and everyone cried together. Seeing them live is another level. You can see their heart and soul on stage. One of the greatest performers!!! It's just amazing energy for 3+ hours.
