Don't feel pressured to do all the things you're being recommended. I've seen that recommendations on any BTS video come on really thick because there is SO MUCH content to go through because they never really take a break.
This can be very overwhelming/time consuming for anyone.

    • @user-jl6mv8of4r
      @user-jl6mv8of4r 3 ปีที่แล้ว +34

I completely agree. The wave of recommendations is already flooding this comment section, so remember to take your time! Go at your own pace, watch what YOU want to watch- I'm saying this because I've seen many reactors get pushed into the deep end of BTS way too quick, and they end up losing interest because of the huge amount of content and recommendation. Enjoy the ride, you're a great reactor who I look forward to keep watching! Have a great day!

You have spent more time researching BTS than most of the media in our country, who label them as a boy-band novelty. They treat them as a fad. Thank you for putting in so much effort & time into this journey ~

Thank you so much Boonville Gal. I’m having so much fun learning about them.
To be honest I’m a bit of a music history nerd lol. I sometimes dive a little too deep into the history of bands. But I think it’s so fun and is helpful for understanding where their music comes from. I’ve watched so many documentaries on rock bands, I couldn’t even count them. BTS has such an amazing energy and I can’t wait to listen to more 😁

A little more about the fandom:
The fandom really works like a big company but so in sync. We know our goals for the boys but also a family. There are Army accounts who tutor other armys for free. Army accounts to teach/job preperations. Army accounts for Charity. Army accounts that analyize data. Army twitter really shocks me everyday!

THANK U FOR YOUR THOUGHTFUL REACTION & genuine interest in BTS. [AND PLS DON'T WORRY. We absolutely do appreciate that u don't solely react to BTS & that u have a varied channel. We're just very enthusiastic abt the boys! But we're also patient & appreciative when it come to reactors who come from a place of sincerity.] I really loved ur ending comments. As an ARMY, it means a lot that u bothered to look into their story.
WITH REGARDS TO YOUR Q. abt why ppl don't know abt them or their artistry, the reality is that everyone already has a built in prejudice abt "boy bands". There's a stigma attached that ur just a puppet who sings what's handed to u by the studio, which to be fair, has mostly been true abt boy bands thus far. And it's also how kpop labels are still run mostly - tho there is an attempt being made to move away (at least at surface level) from the image of the wholly "manufactured, robotic, factory groups." It's important to note that BTS are not representative of all kpop grps - they're outliers in what they've managed to do & achieve - though ofc other Kpop writer-artists exist. BTS & their label have rlly managed to shift the conversation abt kpop & break out of its traditional boundaries. Kpop historically does not have a good reputation & for good reasons. However, BTS' boss wanted to directly challenge & change that culture when he created his own label.
WHY BTS? WHAT SET BTS APART?: Other labels at the time wanted to present shiny, perfected demi-gods that their fans cud look up to & idolize, like a fantasy. However BTS' CEO wanted his artists to create music that cud be relatable to it's audience, like friends, shoulder to shoulder & share their growing pains. He wanted to make authenticity a priority (& not the "polished/fabricated" kind of "authenticity"), He was mocked by other labels at the time when he embarked on BTS' debut with their hip hop school album trilogy (BTS was born when he discovered RM, a 15yr old underground rapper & built the whole band around him). Other labels said BTS' "concepts" were immature, teenagers being try-hards/faux-tough with their "hard image" & cheesy, as opposed to the other label's slick grp debuts. "Why are u letting the kids write abt their school days?" "Why are u letting the kids write at all", many questioned? (Kpop labels usually have their own team of writers)
IN WHICH HE REPLIED in an interview when faced with this criticism: "They're kids & most of the members are still at school, what else do u want them to write abt??? When they talk abt the pressures of their lives as students & criticize the harsh school systems, talk abt school violence & oppression from older generations & oppose systemic oppression - ALL of that comes from them. Them being "try-hards", rebellious & what they're writing abt rn, it's all a part of their expression as teenagers, an integral part of their journey. They get angry with society, they're still trying to navigate this world. What's considered "cringe worthy" to others is a part of their story & I hope it will be seen as such in the future. Will they always have this same approach towards their music? Ofc not, because ppl grow & I'm very interested to see myself how their storytelling & songwriting evolves. They write abt their experience in this society at that time. To "present" them as anything/anyone else rn, well it wudn't be them. They will continue to tell their stories."

I know that there are people who already said this, but since there's so much information regarding BTS that's still to this day being updated you can take your time to go through them. Even after 4+ years of standing them I still haven't gone through all the information, so there's absolutely no pressure. Also, there are very few non-ARMYs out there who actually take the time to even superficially search them up. We regularly find articles written about them where the lack of journalistic investigation is glaringly obvious and very often dismissive of them as artists and us as fans.

  • @cindylepo6784

I'm 53. I've been ARMY since 2016. BTS are by far the best artists and performers of this generation and maybe ever. I've attended 3 concerts and they have been the best I have ever seen. The energy they create is intoxicating. (And ticketing is like the Hunger Games. Be prepared.) As ARMY I feel like they have created a community where one can feel accepted and loved as you are. The men and the music are beyond compare. Something that has always impressed me is they make all hits. Literally every song on their albums could be a hit. Take some time someday and do full album reviews. You will not be disappointed.
BTS have grown as musicians over the years and so has their music. It would be cool to go back and start at the beginning.
And FYI. Some ARMY get touchy being called kpop as that can have a negative connotation as being manufactured musicians. I do believe they are beyond the kpop label but don't get offended as they themselves describe kpop as not really being a genre. They describe it as an amalgamation of it all: hair, makeup, wardrobe, dancing , music and concept all coming together to create a visual and auditory experience. Enjoy and welcome to the fandom.

As a fellow metal enthusiast, I'm sure you love performance and live shows. It's always been my favorite thing of any rock or metal band. I've seen Metallica 3 times, no 4. Once at the Big 4 festival with Megadeath, Anthrax and Slayer. It was wild! I found BTS just before COVID really hit, so I had a lot of time going through vids and getting to know them.....so much time.
I would suggest checking out some of their live stages. I'm a sucker for good performance and charisma and so far BTS is the only one in Kpop for me that doesn't disappoint as a full group and each individually. Mamamoo is pretty good too, not at BTS level yet. But the potential is high in these ladies.
Here is my live award playlist: th-cam.com/play/PLJkSgc_QeJVxUFe_H9BVCWWURcpmVDa5Z.html I suggest 2016 MAMA (2 links), 2017 MAMA, 2018 MMA and 2019 MMA and 2019 MAMA is really good too (2 links for MAMA)
and my live playlist: th-cam.com/play/PLJkSgc_QeJVz5M_HD-rVWGKmMvmC774W6.html I suggest Tear, Ddaeng, The Truth Untold, House of Cards, Hip Hop Lover, Dionysus.
To get to know them more.....check any one of these vids: th-cam.com/play/PLJkSgc_QeJVx7Bl0t0M9jdMnzO_oxnmHL.html
To get to know them individually, the compilations help, but so do their solo songs for each member. You'll really get a sense of their musicality.

They are performers flesh and blood, and I really loves watching their live performances on video. The boys are so different, but together their energy are like dynamite, filling each other, lifting each other. Thats why they are feel so underwhelmed due to covid because they cannot go around and performing.

That is EXACTLY why it's not good. It does give you a rundown of the background and talents of most members but not all. Info on Jin and Jimin is terrible, superficial and seems to be biased against them. That person who did the video clearly only knows info on their bias (or biases) and disregards even simple search for the others.
It's NOT a good video. There are better ones.

Many people criticize and underestimate them as artists, without knowing absolutely anything about them and their job. Like you, I am a person who loves Rock and Metal, and although I am young I like the music of the 60s, 70s and 80s more. There are very few current artists that really catch my eye, and BTS is one of them. Without a doubt, I consider that BTS is a great band, all its members are very talented, each one shines in a different way and they complement each other perfectly as a group. Also, the beautiful message they provide through their music and their concepts related to art, literary works, psychology, among other are amazing.
Thank so much for your appreciation and respect to BTS, people like you are the ones we really need in the world, someone who is not prejudiced, xenophobic or carried away by absurd stereotypes.

They were formed between 2010 and 2012 and debuted with their first mini album in June 2013. RM, Suga, and j-hope were brought into the group and started training under Big Hit in 2010, with the other four coming on board in the years after that. There is a great break down of the history on Reddit and other places, but be careful that sometimes fandom narratives can over simplify or get some stuff wrong. For example, there's a persistent fan rumor that member V was going to be a rapper when that's just not true. So always consult multiple sources and good luck falling down the rabbit hole!

"All it takes is a cursory look at them and you'll know they're not just a regular boy band"
Honestly many people don't look past the pretty boys, dyed hair, makeup & earrings outer layer and keep dismissing them and could care less about who they truely are or what they are saying in their music.
Even people inside the misic industry! That's probably why whenever we see someone like you who can see past that to their artistry, talent, passion and message we do the best we can to help inform them even more and give them all the resources that would help. So, thank you for being openminded and perceptive to see all that from the beginning.
If you are willing to go through their discography from the start, it's soooo worth ir. Because as you saw in the last video (crash course 2020) all their albums are continuation of each other and like peaking into their lives and watching their story unfold from school boys to the beautiful adults they are today. Also the development of their sound, music production and lyrics is amazing if you experience it step by step.
Finally, i'd recommend if you are checking their lyrics, to refer to doolsetbangtan wordpress website. It's the best at providing accurate translations and leaving notes or commentary for korean cultural references or word play.
    Please excuse any typos 😅💜

Definitely react to “who is BTS?” By the same channel that made the crash course video you reacted to. It is a bit dated, but it’s still the best and most comprehensive guide out there. Also, you should react to the series “from nobodies to legends” by x Celeste (there are 3). It would also be good to understand the hardships they went through because it will help explain why fans become so attached- they went through ALOT of trouble in their career.. and who doesn’t love a good underdog story. They shouldn’t have made it in Korea, based on how competitive it is, but their work ethic, talent, great music, bond to each other and the fans, and their amazing individual and group personality helped them achieve the greatness they now have.

@2:40 yes there’s a great Reuters article and Harvard Business School study with a breakdown of BTS fan demographics. I don’t understand why western media (other than xenophobia sadly) want to continue the small minded narrative/propaganda of BTS just having teenage fans. Like hello BTS are in ads for Hyundai, Samsung etc and these expensive products and their concerts are over $100 get sold out within a day so obviously there are allot of working adults that have money to spend on these items. Also their album sales are in the millions with units over $35/each so it’s obvs adult demographic is buying most of it. It’s sad what’s become of media. Articles sound like op ed’s now with little research and hello what happened to Logic smh

Long post! Great reaction! First thought to do: Who is BTS? Introduction to 7 members *If someone else has recommendation to anything with more comprehension or newer fine but I think they will comment if so. Second thought on your reaction: The fact that you want to learn more before reacting to more sets you apart 3) As you mentioned, they debuted first music/performances in 2013 - in Korea they commit to 2 years of training before that date. RM signed by 2010 then they signed the others by 2011 and then trained. I think even Jimin signed on late.
But to me that is real difference to the Korean musician process... 2 years of practicing and education on how to handle interviews and it all. Current US market simply does not work that way. When Celeste said that they were signing for fans and not money… I believe it because they already made so much money. 😂 so while they have been doing BTS they have been putting out solo projects/mixtapes over last 7 years to feed creative need. That is not how the US western music industry seems to work. So this was long, but thank you for stepping out of your comfort zone! I am also doing that!

But typically they’re around $100. It’s more like trying to get them before they sell out in minutes. All you need is a good internet connection 😂👍🏼 I’ve flown across the country to see them and I’d do it again. BTS concerts are one of the happiest places on earth. One thing you said that connected with me while watching was your respect for dedication to the craft. I fell in the BTS rabbit hole not because I immediately loved the two songs I heard of BTS. But it was love I anyone at the top of their game. My favorite basketball player is Michael Jordan. My favorite football player is Peyton Manning. I love Michael Jackson and his craft. I am a huge fan of Johnny Cash. I have been to Def Leppard and Metallica repeatedly. I like hard workers! I could go on with examples. It is a flaw maybe... but what they all have in common is that those are the people who never give up. They work harder than everybody else, who give the finger to anyone who told them they couldn’t do it. And that is what motivates me to watch BTS. I like people who stay true to goal. And for them it seems to be music and impact. Off my soap box now. Lol wow.. long.

BTS is wholesome. I am an ARMY since 2014 and they helped me to finally fight against my inner battles. I was 28 years young when I found them. Their meaningful lyrics, their wide range of music genres, their down-to-earth, lovely & funny personalities, their aesthetic MVs, awesome choreos & their fire during performances are so rare & priceless in this world, which is full of fake, half-heartedness & selfishness.
Stay safe and greetings from Germany.

Yes getting tickets to a BTS concert is super super hard. No matter where your seat is it truly is an amazing experience! I have been lucky enough to seem them perform 5 times and every single time has been amazing. After every concert I have been left sitting in my seat wondering where the time went, is it really over and crying at the overwhelming feels I am left with. There performances are just amazing. I've known Korean entertainment industry for decades and can say for sure that out of many labels, BigHit(bts'company) and JYP do not play dirty. Almost every accusation and slander they got was done by the toxic fans of another big boyband who felt so threatened by the sudden rise of bts.

If you want a good understanding before diving back into the music, then try to get to know EACH member , their names , what they do (sing or rap). There are videos out there. And once you get to know them as 7 people, you will start to get the big picture of what makes them sooo special

I just found out BTS this year. Last year was super junior. But after listening to their music and amazing choreography. I’m hooked. Jungkook is the youngest and started at 15 yrs old in 2013. He’s the main singer and my bias. Bias in kpop means the opposite. There so talented and they work so hard. I’ve never seen or heard a group that sings and dance the same time 😅. My favorite video is ON kinetic film. Thanks for sharing your experience with army

MOTS:7 has now sold more than 1 million copies in the USA. Without bundles. The Weekend has over 60 bundles. Taylor Swift is also big on bundling. SuperM made tongues wag when they scored #1 on BB200 thanks to bundling. Billboard has a new rule disallowing any music sold via bundling to be counted for their charts with effect from this tracking week. That is why recently or specifically last week, many artists including BlackPink rushed to release their albums or music. BlackPink has over 30 bundles.

xCeleste is the unofficial ARMY ambassador to anyone who is interested in learning more about BTS and everything about them. She is HUGE on theories of what their songs mean in relation to their universe storyline they created (its complex and took up MUCH of my time in the beginning, but not necessary to understand what the message of the songs are). I enjoy BTS on a whole other level because they are true PERFORMERS and entertainers who take pride in putting on the best show for their fans. No wonder why we adore them so much, but it's simply unreal how they've created their own intimate galaxy with ARMY on earth. Especially when you see all of those ARMY bombs in their packed concerts

As you begin to know them, note that BTS has produced a varied range of music. They started off decidedly hip hop, but they keep evolving musically, demonstrating an open mind, bent on innovation and discovery. While their music videos are truly WORKS OF ART, their stage energy and charisma when on tour remind one of the passion of rock bands. Take your time to savour each of their eras. It helps to keep track of the focus and flavour of each album as you go.

While you're getting to know them, I honestly recommend checking out a solo performance/video from each of them. It's honestly the best way to understand who each of the members are individually as artists. My recommendations would be:
Persona - RM (Rapper, producer, songwriter, leader, real name Kim Namjoon)
Shadow - Suga (Rapper/producer/songwriter, real name Min Yoongi) - alternatively Daechwita under his alter ego, Agust D
Ego - J-Hope (Rapper/producer/songwriter/lead dancer, real name Jung Hoseok)
(These three songs are from their latest album series Map of the Soul and represent the psychological theory by Carl Jung referenced in this video)
Epiphany - Jin (Vocalist, Actor, eldest member, real name Kim Seokjin)
Serendipity - Jimin (Vocalist, Co-Dance lead, real name Park Jimin)
Singularity - V (Vocalist, Dancer, Actor, real name Kim Taehyung)
Euphoria (watch a live version, either Osaka, Wembley or Seoul Finale, would be my recommendation) - Jungkook (Lead Vocalist, Dancer, real name Jeon Jungkook)

Im a 43 year old with a deep love for metal & alternative music that found kpop via j-rock about 10 years ago & kinda tumbled down the rabbit hole lol
The kpop scene drove BTS to try alternative ways & its partly that which gave them the fandom they have today. They changed the overall kpop scene in many ways, ex the amount of music they release even proceed alot of western artists & especially within kpop we are not use to getting this much music & activity. Im a fan of the 2nd generation idols like my kings Bigbang which in many ways paved the way but bts has definitely taken it to new levels.
As someone that grew up with music from classical to deathmetal but also a love for music from all over the world, its been quite amazing to see another language break through on the scene & knowing just how hard they worked, the struggles they had & where it has taken them, makes me feel like a proud mama but also wish I had such a group as a teen to look up to. The way they use their platform is inspiring & something rarely seen from "pop" idols & cant remember feeling the same hype when New kids on the block released new music as I feel when these guys do lol but alot of that was because the lyrics was boring, music I liked but not much deepness to the more typical "pop" lyrics, but thats what I had my metal music for atleast, but with bts, we get both :)

BTS debuted on June 13th, 2013, but the first member, RM, joined BigHit and the lineup for the group in 2010. BTS was originally supposed to be a hip hop group, but it was decided that they would debut as an idol group instead. Because of this, the company recruited the other members in the time from 2010-2012 through auditions, as K-pop idols have to go through a training period where they learn to sing, rap, dance, and how to behave in public or on camera. The final lineup was decided when Jimin joined as the last member, and the group was officially announced in 2012. This was when they started putting out content, such as logs, dance practices and pre-debut songs.
Hope this answers your question about their beginnings :)

25:11 I actually did that 4 years ago. I didn't have a job at the time and was feeling super depressed because I couldn't seem to find work. I ended up clicking on their video FIRE in my recommendeds and spend the ENTIRE day watching their music videos from the beginning. I was amazed by them. Sometime after midnight, that was when they dropped JHope's Boy Meets Evil comeback trailer. I was so impressed and learned that that song was going to be on their new album called WINGS. I did a nosedive into BTS, there was no rabbit hole. I knew exactly what I was doing and I dove in head first and have never regretted a single second. I found xCeleste and a few awesome ARMYs - that pointed me to watch their V Lives, that they have a running story in their videos, I watched their Bangtan Bombs, and their RUN BTS episodes. WINGS lifted my spirits. I ended up getting a job with a university. My life has changed and it continues to change everyday because I want it to. I owe BTS so much for ... everything. I was a shell of a human before them. Now I'm alive. I wish I could tell them "Thank You."

I loved this reaction! I appreciate that you pause the vid when you want to make a comment instead of talking over it too, a lot of ppl don't do that. You seem very genuine and I am looking forward to more from you! There is a LOT of content. Like, a LOT LOT so just pace yourself lol. But it's all worth it :)

i love how bts tell the people about their charity works cos they are influencer with a lot of follower so seeing they do good things make their follower and fans to do a good things to.. i mean before i know bts ,when i have money i will always just keep it to myself not even thinking that they are a lot of people out there need it more that me..watching them donate here and there make me realised that i can do it too even with just a small amount of money but still it feel blessed.
