Why are there so any downvotes on this? Is it just because of who adopted him? Honestly one less dog in the shelter going to a loving home should be celebrated not downvoted.
Thank you to all who adopt and don’t shop. All of my pets, even my pet rat Chip were rescues, my last pupper (who passed in 7/2020 after 11 wonderful years) was rescued after being in a puppy mill and spending her entire life in a wooden box so small that it caused lifelong injuries. After extensive rehab and lots of love & TLC to get her to trust humans again she bonded with me became one of the greatest joys of my life. I miss her terribly and haven’t been able to welcome another dog into the home yet, but when I do, it will be another rescue. I think it’s how we honor the memory and legacy of our previous rescues/furry family members is by continuing the tradition.
So it shouldn’t matter WHO adopted Major, but that he got adopted into a loving family and will be living his best life.

So, even though good breeders are doing their best to fix this, it's not normal to see healthy dogs at this weight.
Actually Lyndon B Johnson adopted a stray mutt that was found on the side of the road. Yuki was a terrier mix and Johnson found it amusing that a mutt was in the White House vs all of the previous pure blooded dogs who were presidential companions.

Can we all just take the time to appreciate the fact that the woman who brought the puppies in did not throw them out or leave them on the street. Finally, a person with a brain who knows that if you can’t take care of your animals you leave them with someone who can.

As a child, we had a wonderful dog named Major and he had a bow tie just like this Major. Only his ears never stood straight up ... probably due to the handsome stranger that mated with his mom. Best dog ever.
Adopt, don’t shop. And, I hope the woman who dropped off the litter spayed the mom to prevent further unwanted litters. Those are beautiful pups! Hope they all have great homes!
I have to shop because shelters won't allow me to adopt since I don't have a fence.
I'm not gonna put up a little fence to keep a dog in either. I have 14 acres and go on dog walks multiple times a day.
I'm sick and tired of that saying. Start blaming the shelters for denying their animals being adopted out.
I also purchased unwanted pets too. Multiple times my family have purchased un-neutered male dogs from people who didn't have the time for their dogs.
One dog was scared of toys and drank out of the toilet because that's what he learned after being locked in a bathroom all day.
Another dog the lady didn't want because she didn't have time for him and was gifted to her. He had been chewing on his kennel. That same lady came back and had the audacity to say she wanted him back. Hell no.
We got rid of that kennel too.
In our house, someone is with the dogs 24/7 for proper potty training. Our dogs are never alone.
I have a very specific purpose with my dogs which can't be fulfilled by shelter mutts. Therefore I need to shop.
But I shop from reputable, established, REGISTERED breeders of registered, evaluated (mentality, health) dogs. There's a difference between shopping and shopping. My country doesn't allow dogs and cats to be sold at stores, and our largest shelter in the country currently has 16 dogs for adoption, 5 of which are claimed.
So yeah, "adopt don't shop" might be a nice buzzphrase to shout to feel better about oneself, but it doesn't reflect reality. Serious breeding will always be needed, or we'll have a much harder time supplying Military, Customs, Police, Aid and Rescue with dogs suited for the job.

There is zero reason for breeding to occur in an excessive manner to supply military or law reinforcement. Shelter dogs have had success stories time and time again in the arenas. Breeders for specific services (e.g. blind and including military) have also found success with training abandoned or unwanted dogs as well. The military and other services areas are not the reason that so many animals are in shelters. It’s the greed of the irresponsible (and sometimes responsible) breeder, and numbskulls who contradict themselves as is evident in your message that create this poor population of animals that end up being euthanized.
Rescue is the perfect path to pet ownership.

It's true that a few need very experienced and patient and knowledgeable owners to rehabilitate their new dog, but there are also so so many who just need a loving home. Adopt, don't shop. I don’t know what I would do without my little shelter cat. She had been mistreated so it took some time. She has always let me pet her and she loves having her ears scratched. She waits for me at the door and follows me everywhere but she would never let me hold her until today. Today she meowed, came over to me and got on my lap🙂

Yeah, my shelter cat was also incredibly timid and hid under the bed for the first three days. Before long she was (lovingly) running roughshod over me and her brother. She used to strut down the hall like a lioness. She never liked strangers, though.

And people will see how wonderful getting a family from a shelter really is. That Animals from shelter could be as wonderful as those from breeders and there’s nothing wrong with them. Biden (as a public figure) being the example could led people to rethink about adopting from Shelter and actually want to do it themselves.
And I think THAT’s the message The Dodo wanted to convey.
It does matter whether it’s political. That doesn’t belittle the idea that this beautiful dog has a home. For you, that’s more important, for others, who runs the country and how they approach it is important.

Adopted pets are healthier, smarter and more sociable than most store bought pets. I'm talking from experience.
Well from my experience, dogs that come from breeders who do extensive health testing on the parents are just as smart and sociable (if not more so) as shelter pets.
@@jaegerthedane3245 I used to have Persian cats from a reputable breeder. My cats were generally healthy but I still spent a serious amount of cash on vet and groomers. When my last Persian passed, I decided to rescue a kitten abandoned at a wet market. He just turned 17 this year. He does tricks and is super obedient. Healthiest cat I ever had.

I can't believe this is the first time the first dogs are from a shelter. With all the dogs that have occupied the White House, I had imagined some of them were rescues. So happy for Champ and Major. And so glad to have compassionate people in leadership again.

14 years ago I bought my first..he was my Angel. After he passed on and most of the tears were dry and looking and looking online rescues and humane societies ...I adopted my second dog, a beautiful 11 year old dog ...just probably "too old" for most to really consider I guess. I didn't know if she'd make it a year, she looked so pitiful. Shed been through so much already. But here we are. .thriving and healthy...eat well get rest (in her own bed next to mama)...it's taken a long while for her to 'come around' and she's improving in all aspects every day. Truly a blessing 💜

@@RoseOriginals I do too! It's not an easy thing to put all that time and love into an animal to prepare them for adoption and then give them up. Granted its giving them up to a great forever home but it's still hard because you get attached to each animal you help.
And now the two boys 🐶🐶 will get a little first feline sister or brother, too! ❤🐱
