    You're right on the money! I bought the Steinhart Olko and honestly feel no need to get the Tudor Pro, despite the many differences between them. Saving my pennies for a new 38mm Omega Aqua Terra.

    I got the OLKO!!! It was to be back in stock at 6pm German time this past Sunday. I logged on at 6:01 and got it! When I checked back at 6:15...it was sold out again! I can't wait to have this thing on my wrist. I had a 1655 Rolex back in the day. Bought it in about '78 for $800. Wore it every day for 20 years and sold it for $1500. Thought that was brilliant. Now they go for $30,000!!!!! I don't like the look of the current Explorer IIs or the Black Bay, so this is as close as I can get to replacing that beauty. AND FOR UNDER $600! Should be here by the end of this week - Fedex tracking says it left Munich early today.....

    Oh wow I never would have thought that they'd be the same thickness of the BB Pro had a flat crystal, definitely an interesting note. Yeah I agree, I'm a big fan of the BB Pro but I keep changing my mind on the 1655 which wouldn't be the case if they were actually the same.

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ngl i had to remeasure the cases because i didnt believe what i was seeing! the BB Pro is basically a 12.6mm watch! Granted that the slab sides actively work to make the watch look thick as opposed to the Steinhart case but still its important to make a note of the BB Pro's thickness. Yeah the 1655 design is a polarizing one, and now the more i look at it the more I like it!

    The value of the Steinhart is incredible. If this was in my collection it would likely stay but......... I don't have it because I have the BB Pro and seem to be on an extended honeymoon with it for some months now. For what the Steinhart manages to produce for the cost it has to be recommended, OK it's not a 'true GMT' but those not country hopping but work with people in different countries this may well be a benefit. Great review TWI!

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah it would have stayed if it wasnt squeezed out by my BB Pro and SSK GMT! Lets see if this ends up being a rebuy at some point lol. The steinhart really did offer insane value and actually the caller gmt was more useful to me considering i track other time zones but I dont travel as much! Thanks as always Anthony!

    i own a couple rolex watches and i find myself reaching for my steinhart "cermit" most of the time. steinhart gets a lot of hate, but they are truly really good watches, not just a good value. you really put things in perspective when you compared the price of a steinhart to the seiko 5

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah Steinhart makes great quality watches no doubt about it, every time I wore mine it felt like it was double or triple the price. Yeah when I realized that all that watch was being offered for roughly the same price as the SSK it was pretty eye opening! As much as I love my SSK GMT, the Steinhart is a step above across the board

    The 42mm version of this is the first Steinhart I ever purchased. Was so impressed with the quality for the money & have a few Steinharts now. Looking forward to seeing the Tudor for real. Saw the Ranger yesterday, not for sale, exhibition only & was underwhelmed to tell the truth. Have also seen the Root Beer GMT & wasn't keen on that. I have Steinharts vintage style rootbeer & prefer the looks of that one. For me their stand out release this year has been this watch so hope to see it soon.
    If you miss the Steinhart, luckily not too expensive to get again in the future.
    Watchcrunch looks interesting, will have to check in on this platform.

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Alison! Yeah this was my first Steinhart and like you I was shocked by how good the overall quality was and I still can't believe this version was $500! I haven't experienced their other watches but they look great including the root beer!
      I have yet to see the Ranger in person but as far as I can tell it's close to being great but not quite. What color was the lume in your opinion? Sometimes it looks white other times green I'm hoping it's more on the white side.😬

    • @silverlakeas
      @silverlakeas 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thewatchidiot hello, the markers on the ranger appeared creamy coloured rather than white. I do love Tudor watches but this one just looked bland. I don't mind field looking watches at all, but in this case I would prefer the offerings from Hamilton for instance. Also think Longines is killing it at the moment with their new releases which I am so pleased about. It is about time the Swatch Group gave some love to Longines as historically they were a truly great company.

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah the dial could have been spruced up a bit but the fit/finish and hopefully the overall comfort of the Ranger might be able to win it for me! Unlikely tho bc I'd have to sell quite a few watches lol.
      Yeah longines is doing great things I definitely want to try out their zulu time if they ever get that down to 40mm it could be a game changer for me!

    • @silverlakeas
      @silverlakeas 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thewatchidiot the fit & finish looks the same as any Tudor, though I believe it has a new clasp. It just looks very bland in real life & I wouldn’t want to own it if I had the Explorer type Tudor you now own. I just think there are better options to spend that type of money on at the moment, but I will be interested in what you think of it once you have actually seen it, held it & tried it on. This is what makes watch collecting fun though, our different opinions & watch tastes…….

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I can't wait to see it in person! The main plus for me is that it's fully brushed, I'm a sucker for a fully brushed watch lol! Like you said I definitely wouldn't want to swap my BB Pro for the ranger but good on Tudor for getting the community talking as always!

    One thing I wonder is, considering the price difference, what is the rough cost for servicing these? There would be quote differences from different servicers you can pick, I would imagine that if you have the Tudor, you would want it serviced by Tudor. I wonder what a full service for either is cost wise, a couple of people have suggested to me that a £500 ish Steinhart could cost £500ish to fully service.

  • @PerHansa75
    @PerHansa75 ปีที่แล้ว

    Subjective opinion here, but for me, the Steinhart wins in every category: Bezel: Both cool, but the Steinhart's bolder numerals have more presence. Sunburst finish is cool on the Tudor, but the Steinhart's appears more metallic, and vintage. Dial: That vintage 70s style on the Steinhart, wow, I love it, unlike the dial we see on every Submariner/GMT from the past 60 years. Hands: Love the Orange vs Yellow, and personally not a fan of the snowflake-style (love the floating effect on both though). Case: Not sure how Steinhart managed to make this case so slim with their movement, while Tudor's is super thick, but the win again goes to the Steinhart here. Bracelet: Not a fan of the rivets on the Tudor, it's like they're trying too hard to look tooly. Movement: The Tudor's MT5652 is probably better, but the Steinhart's ETA 2893-2/SW330 Elaboré is a solid movement. Price: Obviously the win again goes to the Steinhart here, with the Tudor being 10X more expensive. Again, my perspective only. I acknowledge Tudor as being a great brand, and I'm guessing the reliability/longevity score will go to the Tudor in the long run. I also acknowledge I'm a big fan of the Rolex 1655, which is the look the Steinhart is going for here, but for me, I'd reach for the Steinhart in the watchbox over the Tudor 8 times out of 10.

    • @PerHansa75
      @PerHansa75 ปีที่แล้ว

      If by “better” you mean better quality of components and craftsmanship used to build the watch, yes I acknowledge the Tudor is better. But for attractiveness, the Steinhart wins in every category-dial, hards, case, bracelet.

    Most luxury watches are vastly overpriced. Brands like Steinhart prove it really. Doesn’t stop us buying them anyway. Lean into it - I know I’m being ripped off but I can live with it because I’m infected and all hope was lost many years ago.

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah there's a lot of extra money being spent on a luxury watch and the gains arent often proportionate. The feeling of the BB Pro on the wrist is unbelievably good but is it 8 times better than the Steinhart? Not at all but the extra upgrades make sense as an overall package (or at least I can justify it to myself lol!)
      But yeah the fact that Steinhart can make watches at this level really shows that there are many companies that are super lazy while charging too much. Hopefully things change!

    • @drdesign6886
      @drdesign6886 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thewatchidiot it’s crazy what we will pay for what are objectively minor minor upgrades - it’s really the brand we are paying for if we are honest with ourselves. Which is fine as if the name makes us feel good then why not?! I stopped pretending a long time ago that my higher end watches are value - no mass made machine constructed SS wrist watches should cost more than $1-2k max. Ever. Period.
      Perhaps that makes me crazier than the Watch crazies - as I know all this to be true yet continue the madness! Most argue the case to try and rationalise their spending.

The Ocean One Titanium 500 was a good start. Change the bezel a little, to stops being a Rolex ripoff and they are starting to pave their own path.
