      It is a badass horror film! I do not understand why people would hate something similar to Predator (1987) or Aliens (1986) as Chris Stuckmann said. I just accept it gratefully.

    • @WrektSK
      @WrektSK 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@GioAtero because it's adapted from a game that's not a schlocky action horror thing and turned exactly into that. Don't get me wrong, the Doom 2005 movie is still an okay watch... Just without the DOOM name. Check out the Doom review by Possum Reviews, you'll know.
      Let me make this clearer: this movie is more budget Resident Evil or Dead Space (keyword is budget) than Doom. Doom is about fearlessly running around with guns and hunting demons down in cold blood. That's not what this movie is. Furthermore, some people like to put down the argument that Doom games have no lore (as if this movie has a lot of lore that makes any sense in the first place). That's blatantly wrong. The last two Doom titles have enough lore both in visual and text form that you could write several books on them and still keep everything interesting

    • @GioAtero
      @GioAtero 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Retronite DOOM (2016) & DOOM: Eternal (2020) did not exist back in 2005, just DOOM 3 (2004), which was an action-horror title. I do not know why people narrow their acceptance, there is enough variety and quality for all, and the film is to date the best DOOM adaptation. If you want the filmic adaptation from the new virtual simulators; maybe you must take a look over DOOM: Annihilation (2019). It turned ugly! Worst than the one I love.

    • @WrektSK
      @WrektSK 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@GioAtero I watched a review on D:A before I watched the first Doom movie so yeah I know about it. Both of the movies suffer from the same issue, I'll be honest. They made Doom seem more horror than badass. I'll let the first Doom movie get away because... Yeah Doom 3 was the latest installment of that time so it kinda made sense and the monster designs were fine (still doesn't excuse the lazy and cheesy writing and the fact that they replaced demons with scifi monsters). But if universal had learnt anything from that experience, they'd get the director who made Hardcore Henry and make a 2 hour long movie about killing hell spawned demons, and not fucking D: A

      Edit = I just re watched that scene and I remembered the music to be way better. So after re watching it I think that that scene is good, not amazing but good. But if you mute it and watch it with the Doom theme music it might be amazing.

    In case you missed it, The Rock's character starts going evil because he touches the infected monkey blood after they kill it in the vent. I know, they could just have him go crazy and wouldn't be much different but the idea is he is infected like all the scientists.
    Also the reality of the suggested ending is kind of horrifying - both characters who survived are going back to Earth carrying the virus that makes people either demigods or horrible monsters. So...yeah.

    "If it breathes, kill it." Meaning everyone and everything that is alive here needs to be executed.

    4:10 When he talks about movies falling into traps about science mumbo jumbo. Who the F doesn't have at least some idea what archaeology, genetics, and weapons research is? In the second scene he shows they are clearing checking for anything out of the normal, as they scan for elements. Perhaps they don't want to breath in Chlorine, I wouldn't.
    4:43 Calls clearing sectors "sneaking" I guess you watch any military movie of them clearing rooms in a house "sneaking" . This just shows a limited understanding of how a trained military organization would handle going into an area with numerous rooms and the forewarned knowledge that something is amiss in said area.
    9:55 Bio Force Gun (for the movie, not elaborated on)
    11:23 The Rock or Sarge didn't go crazy or nuts. He is the commander of the mission and he didn't kill The Kid for no reason. The kid disobeyed direct orders and then after being told again said no, Sarge couldn't have someone like that down there with him while they were clearing the area of potentially infected people that could fuck up the whole surface.
    (He says the creature comes so no one has to explain the kids death, but in the scene shown the rock states the kid died for not following orders)
    12:18 He says that our protagonist is just given an injection. For some reason Chris Stuckmann never seems to acknowledge C24 or the dig site from where all of this mess comes from.
    13:20 The whole story is about C24 and the Mission to obtain the data and come back clean. Our protagonist can clearly see that the Rock is infected now and can't let him out of the Quarantine zone now as the infection would spread if he did. Once that fight b/t Reaper and the Rock was done, the story was mainly done. It would of been nice to have some scenes with Reaper getting a debriefing after the F fest but the goal at the start was achieved.
    The story wasn't hard to follow. The only big tech mojo was the Ark and the BFG as we have no real understanding of how they work, but that's not story killing. Since we know the Ark came from the civilization before. (the ones in the ruins)

    Granted, Dwayne was infected by the thing when he got taken through the wall. That's why he goes insane. I was disappointed that they didn't take advantage of the one interesting sci-fi element in this movie when killing Dwayne "Demon" Johnson, because they had plenty of time to do it: splitting him in two via the portal thing because nothing comes back from that kind of crap. insteade, he's ended by something as lame as a grenda, and he doesn't even swallow it. Biggest letdown in the film.

    this movie's plot could've been very simple: a facility was testing some sort of teleportation device and they accidentally open a portal to hell (but they don't even need to mention it was hell). Then a whole bunch of demon creatures pop out of the portal and kill almost everyone. The ones who weren't kill got possessed and became zombies. The Rock's team picks up a distress signal and they go to the facility to check it out then they come across Rosamund Pike's character and she helps them since she works there. I don't even play the game, I just made that up with my little knowledge of it that i picked up from wikipedia.

Enjoyable enough movie for what it is although they could've made Karl Urbans character cooler when he became superhuman but actually, in saying that he did beat a monster Rock so maybe he was cool enough. Fun flick that wasn't as cheesy as I thought it was going to be.
    Also, I think it's a shame Urban hasn't really been able to find any really good parts, action or otherwise as he's a good actor but hasn't won the Hollywood lottery unfortunately.

    I will say one good thing about this movie - Karl Urban certainly looks the part for Doomguy.
    And to those who say this movie has nothing to do with the games, consider this: the backstory of the original Doom game involves Doomguy being sent to Mars as punishment for assaulting his commanding officer, who was killing innocent civilians. The end of this movie involves Karl Urban fighting his CO, who was killing innocent civilians.
    Now that doesn't necessarily make this a *good* movie, but it's an interesting connection.

    There is a reason for The Rocks transformation. You were probably bored and missed the main plot point of the movie.
    They were performing super soldier experiments. Its similar to the Captain America serum from the comics. Add that to the list of stuff they copied. They modified it, but its essentially the same thing. It draws out what's inside of you. If you are good, (Carl's character) it turns you into a super human. If you are evil, (most of the space marines) it turns you into a monster.
    Also, the monsters are able to sense if you are evil. If you are evil, they infect you with their mutated suckers that basically has the serum in it. If you are good they try to kill you without infecting you. The Rock's character was infected by a creature early on and hid it from the others. That's the reason for his transformation; both mental and physical.

      Yeah, it's always kind of weird if a reviewer complains about something when it's so obvious they didn't pay enough attention. That bit is so super obvious in the movie ... I also think they did a fairly good job with the characters, yes a lot of them had easy identifiable quirks, but you also had a lot of interactions between them that fleshed them out a bit.
      Like the Seargent, they introduced him fairly well, yeah it was shirtless scene but they gave him that tattoo for a reason, just like the instructions he got played into how he was affected. That explaination scene about the legs, well there was more to it, but I guess complaining about a tiny flashbacks is more important than paying attention to what is going on ...

      Depends what comic you read. I don't think the original was a serum. Updated comics and related media (such as the 90's Spiderman cartoon) had it as a serum.

      Dude that's exactly what I said, i've seen this movie multiple times through years and its pretty damn clear that chris wasn't even paying attention to the movie. This must be one of the worst movie reviews I've ever seen, I've watched this review TWICE and haven't found a VALID reason on why is as bad as he says it is, with his statements its pretty clear that he wasn't paying attention and some of them don't even make SENSE. I can write a whole essay on why this review is bad and another one on how this movie connects to the game pretty well, and you don't even need to overthink stuff in order to understand it you just need to know the games plot/universe and then watch this movie. This movie is definitely an above average film.

    Honestly, they missed so many tricks here. No Doom Guy, no iconic demons (Lost Souls, Cacodemon, ect), no double-barrelled shotgun, not even a modern homage to the iconic E1M1 theme. The lack of care or love for the source material is what puts me off this movie, they just really missed some easy wins that wouldn't have been hard to pull off. A descent into literal hell would've been an amazing climax, much more than Johnson and Urban squaring off. Imagine Doom Guy fighting a Cyberdemon in the literal depths of hell, that'd be metal as fuck and hilarious fun.

    Who else would LOVE a well-made *Dead Space* movie? Simple premise, some originality in the plot, recreating the isolation, suspense and curb-stomping action on the Ishimura, Sam Raimi on necromorph effects, David Lynch directing?
    I don't know if I'd want *2-3* made as films though, maybe adapt the ending to this so it can be more conclusive without being left open for sequels? Now, the big question: *Who should play Isaac Clarke* (Gunner Wright, duh)*?*
    *#TwinkleTwinkleLittleStar* ⭐

      doctor deepwater Not necessarily, depends on who's in charge. I know it's easy to assume the worst about game-based films, but some admittedly are better than others.
      Ridley Scott could do well if he understands the source material and listens to fan feedback. Necromorph effects alone would be terrifying if well-balanced between practical & CGI, I'd bet on Raimi to deliver any time.
      The story would focus on the best elements, prioritizing survival while lessening the Unitology subplot. The Ishimura itself would be the star (especially in the anti-gravity).
      And like I said, they can adapt the ending to solidly conclude Isaac's story. Maybe have a necromorph Nicole kill him on the escape ship after he destroys the Hive Mind?
      This would be similar to the game but with Nicole appearing physically. Isaac can find her body after the revelation that she'd killed herself and carry her aboard (they had a scene like this in the *Downfall* prequel).

      Sounds like you have a good plan there, sir! Dead Space certainly has a solid plot that would make a pretty marvellous film, given the chance for greatness.
      On a side note, any good game-based movies to recommend me? Most of them I've seen are awful, so it'd be nice to get a few suggestions to change my perspective on it.

    • @Justmyhandle
      @Justmyhandle 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      doctor deepwater There are no masterpieces, per say, but some have had decent to exceptional quality in terms of story, characters, or portraying the game lore. My top recommendations would probably be:
      *Wreck It Ralph* (technically not based upon a pre-existing property but still a game-focused movie that references several well)
      *Resident Evil: Degeneration* (cg animated)
      *RE: Damnation* (also cg)
      *Silent Hill* (good effort put into recreating enemies, effects and music from the game, plot is okay, AVOID the sequel at all costs)
      *RE: Apocalypse* (live-action, some cool fight scenes and Nemesis looks awesome).
