He's more refereed to as the Dark Priest Shaft but yes, I agree. Poison MInd is an incredible Moodsetter for this fight, along with Shaft blasting the door at the start to prevent Richter from escaping. This is the fight I look forward to the most, and after this, the Dracula fight.

This game is my favorite Castlevania. Hard as balls but addicting. I love the graphics, the music, the voices, the death animations. It’s got a dark, but colorful vibe. It makes me feel like I’m truly fighting evil. Such a good game.
I used to work at a Verison Store in a small town with a lot of free time, I used to beat 1 level a day on my psp and try over and over until i beat the game, I was getting payed 10$ an hour to play Castlevania, tetris Dx, Mario 8 golden coins... I was living the life.
I used to play Castlevania on my PSP all the time when I worked at a call centre for a small internet company. We’d work a full 8 hour shift and get maybe one call an hour that would last all of 3 minutes. That went on for months, literally being paid to play PSP all day lol
I used to play this on a classroom TV, on periods when the kids weren’t there. Pre-PSP era. That was when I used to sub for a sick history teacher. I carried my Turbo Duo in my briefcase, and play this.

Actually the freeze at 2:53 right after the flash is timed perfectly with what's going on, combined with the slower music for a couple seconds. :P If the freeze was a few seconds shorter it would feel legit.
Love this level, its total throwback, and yet new at the same time, the enemies are the same first 4 from the original game, but they're changed.....I like that they even went as far as to play the boss music from the very first game....like Shaft revived all of them

Grab some hearts, grab the axe, enter the boss room, fling a few axes at Giant Bat, whip it's ass down, get some hearts, whip Medusa's ass down (FUCKING SPINNING SNAKES AND THEIR STONING), use axe item crash whenever Mummy spews his bandages at you to erase those away, fuck him up, get some health back, use remaining axes on Monster, whip him down, ....then we get to Shaft. =_= Luckily, if you die at Shaft and have some extra lives left, you only have to fight Shaft. :D

I'd say so, in most respects. They improved on a couple of things. Like how hard the Minateur and Dracula's demon form are, but I'd say the levels are harder.
Excellent Boss fight! I love SOTN, but i felt the boss fight against Shaft COULD have been a little more epic. However, I'm just splitting hairs...Great video!

Esa parte es brutal. Lo mas facil es matar a los 4 primeros jefes, y llegar hasta shaf, despues si te mata, cuando reinicies nivel pelearas directamente con el.
@deepfriedtnecks Thank you :) Yeah, I try to play most of my games (at least when I'm recording) without using any upgrades or sub-weapons cause to me, what's the point of uploading videos without doing anything special (unless it's a walkthrough). But unfortunately you get games (don't get me wrong, I love these ones) like Zelda or Metroid where you have no choice but to get the upgrades if you want to proceed further. Oh well.. at least you don't have to use some of them on bosses though.

I don't know why Konami decied to fuck up castlevania games that bad. After castlevania 4 they just took away the ability to whip in 8 directions, pressing up and attack is pointless for a controller with 6 buttons, there is barely any recovery time after getting hit and you can no longer control your movement in the air. This is the reason why these games are so hard and frustrating. There was no point to downgrade back to the NES controls.
maybe not on snes but rondo is a pc engine game and the controller is nes like with two buttons and a d pad unless you have the 6 button fighting controller.
actually, u can controll your movement in the air in rondo of blood... but yeah, the whip downgrade sucks ass... but still, i think its a fuckin amazing game...
Just whips the bat to death, then cross atk the Medusa while whipping try to pin it in the corner, then get right in the mummy’s face and as soon as it drops and whip the hell out of it until it does it’s block atk, then do the Cross big screen clear atk, should be one hit or dead, then cross/whip the crap out of the Frankenstein.

This game is truly brutal, beating 5 bosses with no saves and only one health pick up is crazy
if you beat the first 4 bosses and reach shaft and die then you start over at the beginning of the fight with shaft

Amazing how much atmosphere they squeezed into this game with such primitive hardware back then.
I always said that the first half of Bloodborne is basically what Castlevania shoulda been this generation.

That was kind of creepy that the game flashed then froze for a few seconds with the pentagram stopped in it's perfect position in the background.
