Contrary to the other Rondo of Blood TASes on the site, this one not only goes through the hurdles of saving three useless villagers from their prisons (with some of said prisons even resembling their regular habitats), but also plays through all the picturesque levels just to prove that Maria isn't really a suboptimal character. No videogame character fighting dark priests by stoning them to death with small white birds should ever be called suboptimal.

Really, Maria's only disadvantage is having a much harder time taking hits.
I wasn't expecting the switch _back_ to Richter, though I probably should've seen the code coming...
Maria's the "easy mode" but as a trade-off, she's a glass cannon.

Wow, I had no idea this version of Rondo of Blood featured some German voice acting. Makes me wish I hadn't slacked so much during German class.

@@Trimint123 Which is why I specified by "some". Did go look at the later cutscenes to doublecheck. But that just makes it even stranger, if you're gonna go with the ""fancy"" opening narration being foreign, then why do the standard Japanese for the actual dialogue? I don't even fully understand why they chose German, I guess since Richter is German (considering the name) and the game takes place in his hometown? You'd think it would be Romanian, since that's where Dracula's from, but I guess it's just since Japan has that weird fixation with Germany, as always.
Edit: I googled it and found some guy on Reddit that had an answer for it:
"The person responsible for the intro being in German and for naming Richter was composer Akiropito (he also directed the visual scenes). I actually asked him on Twitter about this, and he replied that he believed at the time that the language spoken in medieval Transylvania was very close to German (this isn't correct of course). The confusion may have been caused by the fact that during the middle ages, there were large groups of German immigrants in Transylvania who formed separate towns and retained their own language. As for Richter's name, in an other tweet Akiropito mentioned he named him after German musician Karl Richter, because he was really into Germany at the time. So that's another reason why the opening narration was in German."

Always funny watching Richter talk down to Maria when she unlocks what is basically easy mode (on a casual playthrough). The power of Belmont is no match for a flipping loli with animal friends!

Rondo of Blood?
It's canonically the last game starring a Belmont set before the Demon Castle War of 1999.
Dracula is resurrected by the dark priest, Shaft, and captures 4 maidens. Maria (the only playable one), Iris, Terra, and Annette (Richter's love interest).
It was only released on the PC Engine in Japan (called the Turbografx-16), though it did get a rerelease on the Wii's virtual console.
There's a sort-of side-game/port of the game to the SNES called Dracula X (or Vampire's Kiss in Europe), and a remake on the PSP called Dracula X Chronicles (which also contain unlockable versions of Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night, with the same english cast as the one in the base game).
Those Rondo and Symphony ports were then rereleased on PS4 (backwards compatible on PS5) as Castlevania Requiem.
