As a begonia person I'm SO glad the planty influencers have rediscovered them 💀 I'm excited to see the markets change now that it seems like more people are showing interest. Hopefully more species become more accessible for everyone across the globe
The “basic” plants are so underrated. I love me an unusual plant, but they do give me more troubles than my tried and true plants like zz, pothos, snake plant ect. Like the zz plant is so underrated. I realized recently just how much this plant has put up with me over the years and never complains 💚
I was never into plants with only two or three large leaves. The individual leaf itself is pretty but if I’m going to have a plant in my house I want it as part of my decor and to be lush and thriving.
Me too. I have never felt that those plants are mundane and boring. I am in awe every time I care for them for all of my 70 years of growing them. There is comfort in the familiar.
29:50 Growing in different ways. I have been doing this all winter. I go to Thrift stores looking for non-planty things that I can put plants in. e.g., A mug tower can be shoved, upside down into a plant pot, & a smaller pot can sit on top. Now I have a 2-tiered planter. I have a Baltic Blue climbing on a Xmas tree shaped cupcake tower, complete with battery lighting.
@@AdelineDurie omg thank you ! I agree with you. I understand that everyone has different taste, but I kinda was ashamed to dislike moss pole 😅 It's just not my thing
I’m so glad you brought up easy care plants. I had a massive downsize the second half of last year and halved my collection. I’ve never loved and appreciated my ‘easy care’ plants more.
I'm really getting into Sanserveria, I currently have 10, including the moonshine and metalica, my favourite is the silver flame, its absolutely gorgeous. Love to Yoli
I definitely feel like that 2025 will be a year of Begonia. Because I see with many of creators that i follow are starting to enjoy and explore the genus more which lead to me exploring it more and oh my goodness.. there is so many shapes, colours, sizes, textures within the genus that my mind is just in awe of what nature is able to create 🥰
I love your collection and you have such a beautiful variety of plants. I’m retired and after watching you, Emma and Wildfern my collection has grown but I am loving my begonias lately more than ever. I am thinning out the plants that really don’t seem to keep my interest. That and mealy bugs are popping up lately. Look forward to all your videos.
I got myself a Queens Tears bromeliad last year and am over the moon about it! Super easy to grow - very spectacular blooms - and it grows pups to propagate which is always exciting!
I’m so excited to be on the same wavelength about 2025 plants as you! In the last month, I’ve started my pothos global Green on a lazy pole, planted a terrarium (no begonias though) and really enjoyed my sanseverias… my wish list includes Hoya obovata, alocasia regal shield and scindapsus pictus exotica -nothing flashy, just straightforward, lovely plants. Hope 2025 is the best year ever 💚🌱✨
Ok i havent watched yet. All i can say is ive had plants for yrs and recently my fondness has grown even more and ive been drawn to alocasias ans pothos this yr. Also ive had a polka dot begonia for 18yrs. And i love her ❤
I love the snake plants you showed. I wish I had more safe spaces from my cats because I try to limit how many non toxic plants I keep. I’ve never really been drawn to the popular plants, but right now, I love the Philo Caramel Marble. I’ve also become a Hoya sigilattis enthusiast, so I hope those pick up in popularity!
I’ve collected plants for 30+ years. I began experiencing a new interest in plants 1.5 years ago. I have a mix of standard plants (pothos, sansevaria, dracaena) plus a few rare varieties. Hoyas are a new plant to me. The hoya carnosa albomarginata (aka krimson queen) is amazing and a new staple; one of my queens even had a single princess strand within it, which was so cool. My Krinkle-8 is a steady, easy care plant I can’t imagine not having. Mix in a few fun more exotic and/or challenging plants. That’s what makes a collection!
Omgosh I have been downsizing and simplifying my collection since Dec! And not feeling BAD for having less plants in my collection! In fact I can enjoy my plants even more now that they aren’t so crowded! And I recently stumbled onto a TH-cam guy that grows cuttings and even permanently grows some plants in acrylic yarn! I’m getting ready to experiment! Excited about it! Something else you sort of alluded to that I’m finding true in my case is my wishlist has gotten smaller. I asked myself “what plants do I really want and have wanted over a long space of time?” Those are the ones I’m getting as soon as it warms up here in Montana USA. Instead of a bunch of smaller plants I’m spending my dollars on a couple more mature plants I really really want and have wanted. I also agree begonias are going to be bigger (yes I’m converting), and Thai Constellations are showing up at Walmart here-the backwoods! Omgosh!
It’s a bit like breeding an oodle - especially at the beginning when the cross was new - only a few puppies had the absolute ideal teddy bear look and this is because of the huge genetic variation in the cross - and I suspect crossing plants is the same - you will get a lot of variation because of the amount of combinations that are possible. Tissue culture is mind blowing that in plants you can bypass generations of careful breeding to have what you want.
For sure I been dealing with declutter my collection, and styling them better. Last year I did purchase some cactus 🌵 as they don’t grow big or fast and they’re so cute.
I'm starting to see people collecting smaller plants where I live- compact begonia, African violets, jewel alocasia, pings, peperomia. Space saving plants which is cool, can have many without the space. Builds on what your saying about philodendrons taking up room.❤
Fun fact. Philodendrons also come in small varieties for terrariums and even have shingling and climbing types that look ridiculously adorable and some won’t even grow past a foot in length!
I’m not someone who appreciates variegation, I like it on the frydek but not on a lot of others. I prefer plants in there original state. However I do like plants with patterns on there leaves. I doubt I’ll be purchasing many plants this year. I may get some additional long strappy anthuriums or jungle cactus and a couple large vein Hoyas, but need to concentrate on caring for what I’ve already got.
I still love Philodendrons and I hope they stay popular because I still have several that I want. But I have seen several saying that they don't want more because of space. My life has been too chaotic and plants haven't gotten the best care so they've been slower growing. I do think Anthuriums, Begonias and African Violets are going to be soon highlighted. But I love all of those lol
hopefully more of the variegated alocasias will become more affordable, some are kinda cool! but yes, easy care plants are def going to remain being popular as ever :P
just made an impulse plant purchase last night & removed a philodendron painted lady from my cart before checking out because practically i do not have room for another philodendron in my apartment when i have 7 already (and 3 monsteras) that are sure to grow a ton this spring/summer. i don’t have room for cabinets so my collection favors fairly easy-going plants & honestly my favorite is my marble queen pothos!
Marble queen Pothos is my favorite, favorite houseplant of all time. I was without one for several years but finally found a lush hanging pot at Lowe’s last fall. I’m a happy 81 year old now. My plant collection is complete.
Thank you for such an informative video. I believe Dr. Block when he says that highly variegated plants will see a downturn sooner than later. ❤ Laurie Canada 🇨🇦
Plant gay for life is a wonderful new TH-camr🎉 I have been noticing and subscribing to newer smaller plant TH-cam channels. No worries, though. I am still watching you and Wild Fern and Firefly in the room🎉 I think the world could use more plant friends right now😊
I love the moonshine sansevieria. It's so easy. Mine isn't really silvery blue though, more just a pale green. I am thinking of getting a second to put on either side of the shelf it's next to. I love the whale snake plant, too. I'm also interested in adding some vining philodendron to my collection, just because they can grow off a moss pole. I have a couple plants on poles and while I love them, I think it's more practical for my space to minimize the number of huge plants I bring into my collection
I must say, I agree 100% with you on predictions and opinions about plants this year. Looking forward to new videos from you, Claire it is always such a joy. 🤫🚚🆕🍃👇📦🌵
I love my Sanseveria but especially the Fernwood Mikado and the Whale Tail. I also have the Hanii you showed. My newest plant is a "Little Warty" succulent that is so cool and weird. I have got into houseplants last year after having been successful in saving an Areca and after discovering pon.
What I would like in my collection are hardy plants that I don’t need to care for too much.
Statement plants like Mostera and the Philodendron pink princess marble (because pink), as the rhaphidephora tetra. Are the biggest at the moment.
Begonia canes because they are so easy, and original. How does a plant get polka dots?!?
Cactus and succulents, so many colors and shapes as well as blooms to choose from.
Hoyas because small, easy and blooms.
Sanseviera because they are rewarding and easy.
Pothos style plants to have larger plants trailing down, easy and not plants indoor garden is complete without at least 1.
I would perhaps make an exception for the Alocasia pink dragon (because pink)
Those are my own trends
I m always sorry people fall for trends as this usually ends up in burn out I think people will de-clutter ,downsize and hopefully pay more attention to what they have in smaller quantities I have no plans to downsize but I only buy what I know I will be keeping (I am a forever plant as well as animal parent) I m not into moss poles and have none I love begonias but do not live where they do well I love carnivorous plants and do plan to add more to my collection Still love philodendrons For me they are beautiful As always love your videos!
I love my snake plants and have a variety. Easy peasy
I am overwhelmed with how many plants there are coming out all the time. I think it’s impossible to keep up with!!
I recently tried an experiment by putting runner bamboo in a container, just out of curiosity.. wish me luck
I never liked variegation especially on Anthurium. I totally 100% agree with you they look sick with it.
I can't remember where I heard this, but someone said that if you propagate a snake plant the propagation will be reverted back to the regular green form. Do you know anything about that? I only have the green form so I can't test it. 🤷♀
I have seen this with my own propigations. I didn't know before seeing a couple varieties, one of which was the moonshine.

A lot of people just grow them with a bamboo pole support :) philodendron of the 'florida' variety size up well without moss poles, just some support
You don't need a moss pole. I have mine on a plank and doing well. Happy growing and best of luck.

I think its going to be the year of lower cost plants...
I'm absolutely ready for the Begonia year!
Great video! How do you make sure you don't get tons of fungus gnats from moss poles? 🤫 🍃NEW 🚛 📦 🌵

Bonsai houseplants will be a trend. Letting them get mature but pruned or even stunted for mini sized leaves
