- I recently decided to rewatch all the Star Trek films. SO I thought why not rank all 13 Star Trek movies from the worst to the best. The first ranking on my channel was of the Star Trek movies, but that was 4 years ago and my standards and opinions have changed a good bit.

Ok this is weird I just marathoned all the Star Trek movies for the first time a week ago. Sean is reading my mind
😮😮😮😮
So did my teacher😂
dammit I was considring to start watching them yesterday
Just rewatched the first ten last month.
The Wrath of Khan, The Search for Spock, and The Voyage Home are one of the greatest three movie story arcs ever.
Agreed. One of my fav trilogies
Nice icon joshua lewis
Yes. Completely agree.
Agreed
As someone that hadn’t seen Star Trek before the Chris pine movies, I really enjoyed the pine movies. It seems to me that Sean’s biggest criticism of these movies are that the characters don’t act like the characters in the original (which I suppose is a fair criticism). But because of the time line set up in the 2009 movie, these are different characters. I think these movies do a good job of intriguing a younger audience that haven’t seen Star Trek before by making the movie a bit more like an action blockbuster. Let me know what y’all think
Those were the first ones I watched to but I just didn't really care about them and now that I've seen the older ones and the original show I dislike them more
This is what I wanted: an updated version of his Star Trek ranking. 😁
I think we all knew that star trek: the wrath of KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNN was gonna be first
Star Trek is weird, every generation has a great film. First Contact, Wrath of Khan, and 2009 would be among my absolute favourites of any genre.
Wrath of Khan was the second film of the originals, not the first.
@@shirubionicle I didn't say that? Just that every time period of the franchise has its great film.
@@chocolaterain5097 oh shit sorry i mis-read that lol
@@shirubionicle all good lol 👍
I LOVE your new thumbnails. They bring some much attention when your scrolling and will definitely get people to click.
Plus they look better than just the rectangles with the movie poster in it.
C'mon. Everyone knows the best Star Trek movie is Galaxy Quest!
I actually did a ranking with my sister where we included it
@@SeanChandlerTalksAbout and it ranked pretty high for both of us.
That's won of my favorite movies ever!! Awesome cast and really well made.
Thanks for doing this ranking. I love Star Trek, so it was really interesting to hear your thoughts, especially since I knew that you were a Star Trek fan too
13) Star Trek: Nemesis
12) Star Trek: Insurrection
11) Star Trek III: The Search for Spock
10) Star Trek Into Darkness
9) Star Trek Generations
8) Star Trek V: The Final Frontier
7) Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
6) Star Trek
5) Star Trek Beyond
4) Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
3) Star Trek: The Motion Picture
2) Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
1) Star Trek: First Contact
I've got to rewatch Star Trek Beyond. I haven't seen it since I bought it when it came out. It definitely felt more The Fast and the Furious than Star Trek to me. And I totally checked out at the end when they destroy the enemy with the power of Beastie Boys. I did enjoy the casting and the new character introduced, but it just didnt feel right overall. Also the only Star Trek since 09' I havent seen in theaters
@@Dreeza68955 That's funny as I call Star Trek Beyond, The Trek and the Furious.

I stumbled upon this because I was curious if someone has done this ranking before, so I looked it up. I’m currently on Star Trek nemesis and I’m going to continue it but I think your ranking is pretty spot on. I don’t know how I’ve never found your channel before but I’m glad I did and I subscribed.
Star Trek 2009 is just a perfect reboot and just such a good movie in general
J J abrams is an underrated director
Aaronrm he copied a new hope to make force awakens he is shit director
I respectfully disagree, I dont like the camera it almost never stops moving and makes me nauseous.
I disagree but I respect your opinion.
Ironically I actually like j.j.abrahms as a director and love his reboot of Star wars. It felt and looked like Star wars relying on practical effects as much as possible. Star trek a series often used models no had an over reliance on CGI. Many characters such as Khan feel wrong. Khan did not have an English accent but Spanish and was very muscular. I just can't look beyond the coincidences and the casting which was good, especially feel Scotty feel very off at times. Abraham's fell more star wars Than the prequel series whether You like it or not. His star trek movies on the other hand feels very star trekesque but definitely not an updated version of the franchise I grew up with.
My personal favourite is Star Trek Vlll: First Contact
The fact he didn’t put First Contact in the top 3 baffles me!
I thought Beyond was too low on the ranking. I really enjoyed that one and I, on the opposite side, found it to be one of the more memorable Trek movies, especially with the characters, humor, and creative action sequences. It felt more like classis Star Trek compared to Into Darkness, and that alone was enough to take the rebooted series in a better direction (plus a great way to celebrate the franchise turning 50!). Honestly, I'd put it at 3 or 4 in my ranking
Listening to beastie boys and using an old motorcycle to jump over bad guys? Really? I didnt hate it...but it is def the odd one out. Directed by a totally different director than anyother, it reminded me of an original series episode. ,
1. Star Trek 2 The Wrath Of Khan: 9/10
2. Star Trek 4 The Voyage Home: 9/10
3. Star Trek 2009: 8/10

I actually liked star trek into darkness
I never saw anyone put it outside the top 10. Most people liked it. It’s got over an 85 percent on rotten tomatoes
Me too
It's an excellent movie
Its my favorite on

You should do top ten favorite Star Trek characters.
Hey redcaio have you done a Klingon theme on piano
@@dawittyone - I haven't. It's rough when there's a cool theme but it's pretty short, making it hard to adapt for a piano cover.
Hey mate, I absolutely love the thumbnail today it looks rad
The reason Kirk defies the prime directive and lies in Into Darkness is to SAVE SPOCK. A character reasoning you accept at face value in Search for Spock.
Great video Sean. We deeply disagree about JJ Trek though
I hate all jj movies
@Burst Your Bubble no lol more than that!
Sean have you ever thought of doing a review on THE LAST DANCE? Btw nice video! Star Trek's awesome!
Finally some love shown to my favorite franchise.
Star Trek into darkness needs to be higher. The acting was incredible
Ikr
Great acting, but the story was weak.
Yes
That movie was great until it ripped off Star Trek 2 The Wrath of Khan and casted a white skinny guy to play Khan a character who's of Indian descent and is a thick and beef dude.
Khan was incredible. Not as good as Ricardo but still
Really Nice Thumbnail for this video, its very pretty.

THANK YOU for what you said about StarTrek III ... that’s how I feel about that movie and the whole odd and even numbered movies.
Your hairstyles really improved from the last Star Trek ranking
Great ranking!😃
I haven’t seen any of these movies do you recommend me to watch these??
I haven’t seen 12/13 of these movies, so is it possible for me to watch and understand the original ten films without watching the shows?
Very nice thumbnail Sean
Not even a Star Trek fan myself but it’s interesting to see a real fan rank the movies and discuss the strengths and weaknesses of them. Star Trek movies I haven’t even heard of at the bottom of the list and hearing why Sean doesn’t really like them.
The search for Spock is my favorite Star Trek movie
What are those yellow lamps in the bakground? the look really nice
I’ve never seen a Star Trek movie, but I mean to I’ve just never gotten around to it. Do you just watch them in release order?
Yes. It makes more sense to watch them in release order, because Star Treks 1-10 take place after one another, while 2009, Into Darkness, and Beyond are set in an alternate timeline...
Can someone make a list for me in wich order i should watch the movies and series?
Awesome front cover!
This is kind of strange-I just bought Star Trek (2009) on Blu-Ray, and then you post a ranking...I really hope it’s good though!
I’m interested in the Original Star Trek films but I don’t have time to watch all 10 unfortunately so thanks for this lol!
Star Trek 2009 is one of my favorite films!!
Also, if you want to see a few of the good older movies watch 2-4 for a nice Star Trek trilogy. If you still want more watch 6. Want some TNG trek? Watch First Contact.
@@codym6376 Thank you so much! 😆
From my top 800 list:
598. Nemesis
597. FF
596. Insurrection
These three are interchangeable down here; equally and differently flawed.
395. ST2009
394. Gen.s
393. BYD
Let’s face it, 2009’s plot has some super wonky elements. And despite the philosophical depth, Generations’ plot needed work, too. Despite the gimmicky bits of the plot and disgruntled villain #3bln, BYD had fun callbacks and crew combinations- a follow up to this would only have been better.
180. TMP
The most underrated Trek ever.
Yes, there are pacing problems, but that’s really it.
Kirk has a character growth arc.
Spock has a character growth arc.
Even Decker and Ilia.
McCoy is his usual fun self, constantly quotable.
True, hard science fiction in this most Trekkian of movies. Best warp effect ever. Glossy visual fx ahead of their time. One of the best movie scores ever. Introduction of the best version of the Enterprise ever. No standard angry villains, no killing, just a mysterious entity with a personal problem, leading up to a uniquely transcendent solution, all while gradually bringing the band/crew back together after a long separation and Kirk finds his groove again.
160. Und. Country
Generally good Trek, it just suffers from a dab of mystery-itis. (Once it’s solved, everything is painfully obvious on subsequent viewings.)
66. First Contact
44. Voyage Home
33. In Search of
9. Khan’s Lettuce Wrap Wrath
Hey Sean I just watched Hostiles not sure if you’ve seen it but if you could do a review on it I’d love to hear your thoughts. Really great film with Christian Bale as the lead.
Omg best video ever!!! So I haven’t ever seen a Star Trek movie right
Interesting thought. Do you think that the changes to Kirks character in the new ones comes from the death of his father?
I think you can make that argument with 2009 (hence why that one is high on my list). But when you give him a purpose, a crew and a ship....he should have already grown up. At some point he needs to resemble the classic character.
I like your comments on Star Trek V. Although many don’t like it, I rather do! Yeah the special effects are bad among other things but it’s the character moments and interactions that had me rewatching every once in a while.
Star Trek the motion picture is so underrated. I think it’s one of the best.
Absolutely!
Really? I would have put it at 13 in my ranking. Just so slow and the conclusion felt weak and unfulfilled. As bad as Nemesis is I could still rewatch it before The Motion Picture.
Great video 👌
I have a question Sean. What video that you made, made you think you could make a career off youtube?
i just finished re-watching all the films myself, and this is pretty spot-on.
Awesome thumbnail Sean
The image looks great
Thanks!

Thank you someone who loves into darkness as much as me
Star trek VI is a fantastic movie. It has everything that's great about trek, and also has really stat of the art effects (for the time). I love II, but VI is up there.
Agree so much the top 6 are the stand out films in the series, we have the same but ranked a bit different. Love the score from James Horner!
13 - Star Trek 5 The Final Frontier
12 - Star Trek TNG Nemisis
11 - Star Trek Generations
10 - Star Trek Beyond
9 - Star Trek TNG Insurection
8 - Star Trek The Motion Picture
7 - Star Trek Into The Darkness

Sean Can You Please Rank The Dollars Trilogy (I Loved This One)
Not sure if it’s just me, but the audio was different than your past videos. Was that that on purpose?
There’s no reason the audio should be different on this video. So I don’t know.
13: Nemesis
12: Insurrection
11: The Final Frontier
10: Generations
9: The Undiscovered Country
8: Star Trek Beyond
7: Star Trek: The Motion Picture
6: The Search For Spock
5: The Voyage Home
4: First Contact
3: Star Trek (2009)
2: Star Trek Into Darkness
1: The Wrath Of Khan
Where do you rank Galaxy Quest?
My favorite is Star Trek 4- it feels like a Romcom and it is so refreshing after watching Wrath of Khan and the search for Spock which both had darker tones. I also really like, Star Trek Beyond, but maybe that’s because I don’t consider Shatner’s Kirk to be the same character as the Kelvin Timeline Kirk.
But the tv shows are always better, TOS!
Sean, you should check out the directors cut of the original Star Trek Movie. It’s much most past paced and it has a lot of gravitas to it. Unfortunately though it’s only available on DVD and Blu Ray so one of your fans will have to send it in the mail or something.

personally i was raise on the Pine films and loved all of them. i got to see 2 and 3 in theaters with my dad and those are truly core memories for me. but 1 is definitely the most tightly written.
Oooh
My favorite franchise of all time. With everything going on in the world and all the nastiness it's nice to have a franchise where all these people who have WILDLY different perspectives about what's going on in these stories being able to actually have a decent conversation about how to solve the problems at hand without going after each other. At least they try to do that. That's what's great about the various series, they've all got varied tones and their own particular perspectives
My main problem with into darkness is the magic blood: First of all, if you can use the magic blood to resurrect Kirk, Star fleet is useless because it’s primary purpose is to explore new words and help them, but if nobody can die and no one needs help, Star fleet no longer needs to exist.
I remember watching the Motion Picture and wondering if I should even binge all the movies, but after watching The Wrath if Khan I knew there were going to be some gems.
I liked nemesis and into darkness, but I'll readily admit I'm not a trekkie super fan. Probably like how star wars casuals like episodes 8 and 9
I have always wanted to watch the Star Trek movies, but someone told me that I have to watch all the episodes of every TV show. But I don't really have time to watch the shows.
You don’t need to watch every episode. That’s not true at all. You’ll want to watch a FEW episodes of the original series (especially space seed) to appreciate the original films. and watch a few next gen episodes (especially best of both worlds) before the next gen films.
The new movies with Chris pine stand on their own but they’re very different from the other stuff
Totally off about Into Darkness. The "magic blood" was introduced in the original series. SPACE SEED. I cry everytime I watch the end of WRATH.. and I love that Abrams paid homage to the Spock death scene by juxtaposing Kirk in the sacrifice roll. Oh, I cry everytime in that scene also! Spock learns about his love emotion! Great transformation. My top two of the franchise for sure!
thanks great vid!!!

Dude... I’ve never seen one Star Trek movie in my life and I was looking to watch some of the 90s movies relatively soon! Perfect timing 👍
Dam why are both of us always early?
I’ve got time on my hands lol
Cole REVIEWS my plan was to watch Star Trek the motion picture first, then wrath of khan, and see where it takes me. I just like watching stuff in order imo
Just be prepared that you won’t enjoy the first one but 2-4 make a real nice trilogy
Ex Transporter yeah the first one was very low on his list so I don’t plan on liking it too much
Never been a huge Star Trek fan but I loved reboot trilogy and like a couple episodes of Deep Space Nine and Voyager maybe I should start a Star Trek marathon
This is a sensational list and you explain your points in a masterful way. In my list I would switch ST 6 with First Contact, making it second. TWOK will always be first, as in your list. Too bad they had that giant, fake-ass Chekov ear! Lol! Take that out and one would have the perfect film!
Thanks so much for watching!

The problem with comparing character traits of the old star trek to the new trilogy is its an alternate universe kirk especially was raised completely different [without his father] he was a drunk punk where the only reason he got involved with star command was a challenge so therfore he wouldn't necessarily be at home as captain like he was in the original time line yet he keeps getting thrust back into it
Please make a video of ranking every Star Trek tv series from the worst to the best
1: Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan (for all the reasons Sean states here, lol)
2: Star Trek: First Contact (an absolutely incredible movie which showcases just why TNG cast were so damn good together)
3: Star Trek: The Undiscovered Country (Nick Meyer is back behind the camera after giving us Wrath of Khan and he shows just why he is the best director out there for ST)
4: Star Trek: The Voyage Home (Its a little zany, some of the comic relief is a little campy, Scotty talking to the mouse for example, but it just reminds you why you fell in love with these characters)
5: Star Trek: The Search for Spock (the perfect example of just exactly what Kirk is all about and how they have so screwed him up in the JJ'verse Trek)
6: Star Trek: The Motion Picture (yes it's slow, but it hits you in the feels really hard at times. Seeing Kirk again, seeing the Enterprise in dry dock and that swelling score. I can forgive the boredom)
7: Star Trek: Insurrection (It's not great, but it's not as bad as some people think. And Starfleet needing to make such deals with aliens due to the losses in the Dominion War makes sense to me)
8: Star Trek: Generations (Kirk should of had a better send off I feel and the plot is a little all over the place at times)
9: Star Trek: Nemesis (TNG movies go out with a whimper rather than a bang, but they are still better than the crap from the JJ'verse)
10: Star Trek: Beyond (With Simon Pegg on script duties the plot tries to come back to what makes Trek great, but with the Fast&Furious director behind the camera it doesn't stand a chance)
11: Star Trek 2009 (I'm sorry, I just can't really get behind any of the new Trek movies, they just don't have the heart of the originals and screw up Kirk and Spock so badly. Thank God for Karl Urban)
12: Star Trek: Into Darkness (there's so much wrong with this movie I don't know where to start, lol)
13: Star Trek: The Final Frontier (it pains me to put an original cast movie last ... but God is this bad, lol)
We have the same top five, just in a different order
