Shiny marks are when the finish of the model is scratched, but not scratched deep enough to scratch away any of the paint. (Its easy to do accidentally with your fingernails as I've learned.) So far I haven't had any luck with the different methods I've heard of and tried out. Supposedly the best way to fix them is to actually carefully brush a matte finish over the shiny marks and let them dry. I haven't had the chance to try it out, but plan to at some point.
Nice video :) Hair dryers also work for heating up warped legs ;)

StormyStrikesChannel thanks for sharing! I've heard of the hair dryer thing but I've heard multiple times that the horses leg snapped off haha I feel safer with the water

I always wash off my breyers before I fix them up. (Since I buy cheap, scratched, flawed breyers) - it helps remove paint flecks, sometimes shiny marks, and just all the baby drool from the previous owner (lol)

For the hot water method of straightening legs, always put a plastic bag over the leg, especially with glossies, the water can ruin the finish!

Amanda Courtney thank you for the extra tip! I always get a lot of models with crooked leg, I don’t see why I wouldn’t get a glossy with a crooked leg.

I have heard all of these but I haven't yet tried any. I may of tried the warped leg trick on a Schleich model a while back but I cant remember. I heard vinegar helps get black marks off, I only tried it once slightly and It didn't so anything but you probably have to do it more then once lol 😂

I have that same black TB stablemate with the white track wraps on. Only now she's all black because I painted those wraps off. She looks much better without them. (Jan Griffiths).

Do you know what to do for hoof scuffs on a Breyer horse? I have this gorgeous Grullo Pinto Stallion model and the only flaw on his body is on his hooves. He is really a beautiful model and I would love to show him one day.

I have a problem. My flexible mold (it's not flexible) broke its tail. HELP!!!! I don't know how to fix it.

    • @douglasgriffiths3534

You probably will have to fix it with wire and apoxie sculpt. Glue will not hold it for long. Find a video on how to resculpt a tail; there's quite a few on here. I had to do that with one of mine when its tail broke. You will need a drill with a small bit, safety glasses, apoxie sculpt, and super glue to hold the wires in place once you put them in the hole(s) you drilled. I ended up making an entire new tail for my horse, which was even better than the original.

From my personal experience shiney marks happen when the oils from your hands touching the model get on the model. At least that's how it is for me with black or very dark horses.

Thanks so much!! I have a question though, I did the shiny mark one with my rhapsody in black, and it did remove the shiny mark, but it is all smudgy around the area. Like shiny and smudgy. Is that normal?

Thank you for all the interesting tips and tricks. A few seem to be a bit risky but, that is just my opinion. The painting is one that I have attempted and does work well most for BLACK horses. Most important to know what type and brand of paint to use. I know i screwed up on using or trying to use Basic acrylic paint. It does chip over time. So I went to Michaels art and craft store , and got a different type semi gloss and it works way better. I need to get more tomorrow for my other horses. I do have a question the amount paint that you did for the black horse's ears.. Do you apply the same amount for the hooves , tail and body?

pretty much yes, but you kind of need to judge base off the paint you use and how much you think is necessary

You need to use a sealer like Mod Podge after painting. Most non-glossy models will need the matte finish. It works quite well sealing small rubs like ear tip rubs.
