    Victor Frankenstein's stable is lookin' good! Jokes aside, I wish I still had some of my old Stablemates kicking around, I'd be tempted to try this myself...

    I made my first mini custom today at Breyerfest! We didn’t have all the fancy stuff like pastels but I think it turned out good for my first time! Your a huge inspiration for me!

    Thank you for sharing this tutorial! I've been wanting to play around with this type of customising but never really knew the best way to go about it! Going to have to try now!

    Great video and thanks. You inspired me to get my box of stablemate bodies out and start some projects. I've been working on traditional scale models exclusively for the last couple years and now I want to mix things up. I also have plans to customize a children's "bouncy" horse I got at auction; I think he will make a lovely garden decoration this summer.

    Thank you so much for this!!! All I can afford right now are Stablemates (No joke, I only have three traditional models, two of which I won in contests, and only one of which I'm willing to try my hand at repainting), and I've done a couple leg and tail swaps, but haven't felt brave enough to go much further then that. I also haven't felt brave enough to Apoxie those models yet, so I really appreciate seeing how you handle and fix mistakes. I'm hoping in the future to turn some models into wild equid species, so I was very interested to hear your take on the proportions and artistic merits of the different generations. I would be extremely interested to know which Stablemates models you think have the best proportions and confirmation (like maybe the best top 3 or 5). Thanks again!

    Do you have any recommendations for books or other resources for learning about horse muscle, how it sits/how the muscles work? I'm not able to get out and study real horses and I have a hard time understanding where to make creases for muscles when I'm resculpting.

      I highly recommend "An Atlas of Animal Anatomy for Artists (Dover Anatomy for Artists)" by Wilhelm Ellenberger. It shows all muscles and skeletal elements in detail, though it doesn't provide much in the way of dynamic poses. It still provides an excellent basis for horse, dog, cow, and lion anatomy. I would also recommend "Horse Anatomy Coloring Book" by John Green as a companion to the atlas, because it uses many of the same artist plates as the atlas but cleans them up so you can color them in. I find that being able to practice seeing the muscle groups via drawing and/or coloring them is an excellent way to learn the basics, and it becomes easier to notice joint movement and muscle flexion on moving horses (either in dynamic photos or videos). Hope this helps!

      I also recommend the book Rachel Webber listed, understanding the anatomy/muscles underneath the skin with help you on sculpting the surface of a model.

    Would you ever consider customising a WIA Sharif, Gustav, Lancelot or Vincenzo? The Brigette Eberl models are amazingly detailed and the best available at that scale! Would love to see it here!

      I should try customizing these guys more, but I find them challenging being made of flexible plastic.

    I think I'll get a lot of play quality stablemates and give this a go. Looks like fun. (Jan Griffiths).

    I'm glad to know you don't HAVE To sandblast the glossies in order to prime them first! I was worried I wouldn't be able to use them in customizing.

    • @DeeJayBeStudios
      @DeeJayBeStudios  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have heard they don’t do well with resculpting. Because the clay has nothing to grip to, it can cause lifting. But for priming, things seem OK yup.

    You can put wings or a horn on the rearing one.

    I know in previous videos you said water OR rubbing alcohol - is rubbing alcohol better in the end then?

    • @DeeJayBeStudios
      @DeeJayBeStudios  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Isopropyl Alcohol is stronger than water. I prefer it. But if you’re not careful, it can turn things to mush.
