  • A busy junction, sending trains to Scotland, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, Manchester and London, with branches serving the countryside round about, such as the Lakes and industrial areas around. See 86s on Inter-City trains, 47s on freights, and 31s looking for work. Plus busy DMUs bustling about.

Nice historical shots here of Carlisle. This popped up after my video of Carlisle Station some 30 years ago!

Wow! I'd forgotten all about that one. Thanks for commenting, anyway.

90s still going strong and some 47s and 86s too! Great sturdy old workhorses by BR.

      Yes, indeed. Plus 37s!

Preston South was just as good at this time it still had a station pilot.

Very likely, but too many platforms to keep an effective eye on!

Never heard of Carsile! As for Carlisle, it's a cow to get a car parked!!

Can you adjust the picture as everything is squashed up. Should the aspect ratio be 16:9? Thanks

I wish I could. I have tried but nothing seems to work.

Filthy locos, filthy coaches, station canopy on platform two missing the middle section of glass, litter all over the tracks inside the station. Some people want the railway renationalised so we can go back to this.

      Couldn't agree more!

By this time BR was having it's budgets slashed in readiness for privatisation. One consequence of this policy was that staff numbers were being cut by voluntary( in some cases compulsory) redundancy. This is why some menial jobs like litter picking were cut back. Hope this info helps.

You have to admit since privatisation the rail companies have arguably got off their butts and addressed passenger issues when all BR did was meh whatever.
