It took me breaking 5 $30-50 gloves in the first 2 years of high school to convince my parents that I needed an actual glove. I was a first baseman with a shortstop throwing 88-93 across the diamond and they thought I “broke them on purpose”. Got 2 $230 heart of the hide gloves (one 1B and one IF) and I am still using them in men’s league 8 years later with just the occasional re-lace. Worth the money easily.

My father bought me a Wilson A2000 glove in 1980. Now my son, who is 11 years old, uses that same glove. Yes the inside of the glove has worn out some over the years, but it’s still structurally sound. If you take good care of these gloves, they can last a very long time. I believe that it was around $100 back in 1980. Well worth the price in my opinion.

Bought a $300+ dollar glove when i was younger than you back in the 90’s. Used it heavily for at least 15 years and then less frequently as life got in the way of playing. Coach at my kid’s school now and “lost” it a year ago. It was shockingly emotional to the point I had tears in my eyes. It’s crazy the things you think of and the memories you have attached to an object. Looked and looked then finally broke down after a couple weeks and ordered a similar glove which was over $400 now and then promptly found the original, in a box IN MY TRUCK! Lol

The $30 glove would probably be OK with a re-lace job or at least re-lace the pocket.
I'm looking hard at getting a custom catchers mitt from 44 gloves for around $200 + give or take depending on how you'd like to embellish it and later a fielders glove, they have many styles and pocket designs to choose from not to mention all of the colors that you pick yourself like main color, web color, stitching, lacing etc.

The smell of the leather glove combined with the smell of freshly cut grass slightly damp from when the sprinkers that watered the infield last night. The sound of your cleats as you take your first practice swings when you dig in on opening day. This nothing better than the sounds, smells and sights of opening day, the sound of a ball hitting the sweet part of your bat when you know for sure it is leaving the park, the smell of those hot dogs that you can only get at a ballpark and the sights of the stands on opening day. Baseball the greatest sport ever, the only sport that celebrates the beginning of it's season, OPENING DAY

As a kid in the 70's I played using a cheap Spalding glove from the department store, didn't know any better and couldn't afford it if I did. I outgrew the first glove and searched all over to find one that felt right. Around that time I found a softball glove that the school my neighbor worked at was throwing away, (he brought a dozen or so gloves home and gave them to the kids on the block). I ended up with a bright red full grain leather glove that fit my hand well, I changed up the lacing a bit around the pocket and hand closure and starting using it. I used it for years, and still have it. I replaced it in high school with a pro glove an ex player gave me, (Also a neighbor at the time), I used that in Babe Ruth league in high school for a bit but ended up going back to the old softball glove. It just fit me better and I liked how it trapped the ball better. I haven't played anything more than catch or the occasion weekend game at a barbecue in 30 years, but still keep that old softball glove handy. It sits on a table in my home office. I never took to the new glove and didn't play as well with it. It fit me fine but it wasn't comfortable and the hinge crease didn't want to be where I wanted it to be. I think I later found out that the glove I liked best was a $12 model from some school sports supply house back then. I found out they were donated and the school didn't have a softball team so they sat around for a few years and got tossed. Somewhere I've got another one that never got played, one of these days I suppose it'll turn up again.

Price-wise i think the $30 glove gives more value for your money. As you've said the $30 glove will last at least 2 years while the $300 glove, 10 years. So If you replace your $30 glove every 2 years, you'll spend half of what it cost the $300 glove by the time you replaced it. When the $300 glove is on it's last 2 years, it's probably at the same state as the new $30 glove but you have a new $30 glove. Who wants to play with a 10-year old $300 glove anyway? Besides, both catch balls well which is their the primary purpose. Who cares about pop or taste? Go for the $30 glove. In case you suck in baseball after 2 years playing, you are not stuck and in the dock with a $300 glove.

    LIFE HACK
if you need to restring your glove and want the strings to taste good a get on the glove easier put in salt water. As he said, the salter the better

didn't I see this exact same video from that other guy 300 vs 30 glove? mighty goat? you even posed in the thumbnail the exact same way: the 300 glove on the left and the 30 on the right. that's what I love about youtube, sheer originality. so impressive.
edit: my bad, his was $300 vs $20 glove. completely totally different.

really couldn't think of anything original? 300 glove vs 30 glove. 'hmm, its been done before but I think I'll make the exact same video'. thats the problem with TH-cam. everyone is ok with unoriginality and plagiarism. plus this dick head is not funny. didnt even crack a smile once

I can tell you from the experience of 30yrs, gloves do make a difference but I honestly can make a 150-dollar glove work just as well as the 350 one.

Cheap gloves are fine and a lot of the time better when the kids are young and don't have the strength to squeeze a high end glove. That and the velocity of a 7 or 8 year old isnt gonna break a lace. I recommend spending some money on a high end glove around 10 years old. I bought a few A2000's for my son to start working in over the next few years before hitting high school.

I bought a Wilson softball glove for my daughter at Kmart for $35. Bought it for her, her freshman year in high school. Used it all fours years. The only thing I did to it was condition it when I bought it. And she is hard on her sporting equipment. She is now a sophomore in college and still using it. The only position she didn’t play was pitcher and caught. And she played all seven innings every game.

Glad to see that 30 years later, players still chew on the laces like we did in the 70s and 80s. And you can tell the difference in glove quality just when you held them both up to the camera. Also, in the early 1980s, a relatively inexpensive glove ($30 in 1980s money, which was actually a little pricey) got you a really nice glove that lasted a long time. I had a Spalding glove that I bought for $30 in 1983 and I used it all the way until 1990 and it was still in good shape, though the leather where my hand rested in side the glove was worn out, the rest of the glove was still reasonably useable.

To be fair $30 in 1983 was about $90 in todays money.
