I’ve noticed Wilson is using cheaper laces in the last few years. About the time they removed the oval logos, the laces changed too and they seem to be thinner.

I played HS baseball in the late 70’s/early 80’s with a Wilson A2000 and it never failed me. It was an awesome glove. Lost track of it when I went to college. Wish I had that glove again. I caught 1000’s of balls with that glove without failure or need to re-string. Quality is not what it used to be in lots of things.

    • @VagabondVanagon
      @VagabondVanagon ปีที่แล้ว

@@rickfrank7934 When it comes to Wilson’s, it is a huge factor imho.
The Japanese are known for their quality and their QC. They have also been making ball gloves for a very long time so needless to say they know what they’re doing. As Chris said, with the Vietnamese made a2000 gloves it is very hit and miss on whether or not you get a good one. Not saying it’s impossible to get a good one but your much more likely to get one with an issue. The A2Ks are made in the same factory in Japan as the pro issue A2000s, “what pros wear” did a great article talking about this. Like I said, this is just my experience, ymmv.

From 94/95 until 2015 I used A2000 catcher mitts and went through four of them before getting an Allstar. The A2000’s definitely felt like an old glove after a few years. The Allstar from 2015 is still holding up so well that the replacement for it from 2020 is still in the break in phase. Thanks for the video and keep up the great work.

bro i think its time for a 4k camera. don't know if you are aware, youtube recommends 4k videos more than 1440p or 1080p because they want viewers to see better quality on their platform. with these new TVs and monitors being 4k and oled, it makes 1080p look like what 720p used to look. remember, these videos will live on youtube for years, (this video is a year old) future proof your content and upload in 4k! peace and love bro

Chris you make great videos. I hope these Wilson and Rawlings videos serve the glove community well. My thoughts are that I agree with you on some things however I think an even greater perspective to add to this would be that of those who tear down and clean or repair hundreds of gloves every year. They have a unique perspective on what works and what lasts. Ive personally talked with a handful (azglovelab and gutsandglory to name a few) and I think its worth mentioning that both brands have taken noticeable shortcuts in recent years.
I've seen professional level gloves from both brands with issues and stock lace quality for both Wilson and Rawlings is a valid complaint. Rawlings seems to be noticeably having more of a quality control issue across the board that really paints the picture that they might be putting profits over quality products (I prefer Rawlings patterns over any other brand) Especially their Rev1X that maybe was intended to be a competitor to Wilson SuperSkin yet many think of it as just a glove with planned obsolescence baked into it. Rawlings even had some noticeable issues with hide quality on their most recent Horween batch run. I personally had to return a new Horween glove due to it having defective hide.
Thats just my two cents. Hope you and the family are well and look forward to more videos from you!

Thank you for the detailed comment bro!
I agree 100% I like to keep in touch with glove repair guys and I always want to be humble and represent the masses. My goal is to help everyone know the truth about brands and their products while also telling brands what we the people want.
There’s definitely some fishy stuff going on and I hear a lot of “it’s cause of Covid” whether that’s true or not I don’t know lol
But hopefully this channel can help keep brands accountable!

@@ballgloveking You do great work! I agree sometimes bringing the not so great matters into the light may not be fun but in the long run beneficial. I ordered 2 custom HOH Rawlings last year and overall I am happy with them but did notice that leather quality could’ve been better. Im ordering 2 custom A2000's at some point this year. Hoping I don't have any issues with them.

I have been using a 1786 a2000 for two years (starting season three now) and have had to keep an eye on the same issue you talked about. The index finger loosened up as the glove broke in and that helped to form a nice pocket. The problem though is that it kept breaking in and loosening up. I started to get concerned that the lace attaching the index to the middle finger was going to pull through the glove because the opening the lace comes through started to show fray a little. I tightened the fingers and the pocket to take stress off that spot, but it just keeps getting loose and needs to be re-tightened every few games.
I LOVE this glove, it's my favorite I've ever used, but I will be buying new laces to see if that fixes the problem.

My A2000 disintegrated. Quality was absolutely trash. It pissed me off so much. Rawlings 3x the age never even come close to the dumpster state this glove is in. Pretty sure I got a dud tho, cause I see plenty of guys using a2000 and theirs feel completely different from glove to glove. Atleast I learned my lesson in hs, cause college ball has been smooth sailing with Rawlings.

I bought a 1786 and DPCM 33' Catchers glove in 2021. Used them for 2 full season and both are broken in perfectly. I like stiff gloves and most would think my A2000s are brand new

nice to meet you. My name is Yamashita and I live in Japan. I love Wilson gloves and use them all the time.
I especially like the a2000 and recently started wanting to make my own order gloves.
However, there was a description on the dedicated purchase site that only people living in the United States can do it. Although it is a directly managed store, I tried to find out and called, but the answer was that it was impossible anywhere.
Well, I know it's an unreasonable request, but you didn't order and order my gloves. .
I am a youth baseball coach in Japan.
Could you make my dream come true?
    Thank you.

i noticed KeBryan Hayes wears his glove traditional. maybe wearing the glove traditional helps with the structure of the glove, but i think at this rate Wilson gloves are falling off, especially in lace quality

I could be wrong but I thought the major difference between the a2k and a2000 was the where it was made. A2k I think are made in Japan. A2000 are made in Vietnam. Also, the a2k is a Kip leather, nicer leather than the a2000.

Definitely interesting, I have the same exact a2000 and it's still stiff after like 4-5 months of repetitive use!! I've catched pretty decet velo with it and taken hundreds of ground balls and it's still stiff and feeling good. A2000s are a little inconsistent with how stiff you get it, some break in very fast while some are absolute tanks
