Good refresher on setting the lifters, I have to do that soon, and it does run smooth. Great video.

4:11 The same exact thing happened (same head, same side) on my 24hp Craftsman.
( Nothing under the cover to cause overheating on mine )
Rather than buy another head, I just fixed it . . .
With the exhaust valve out and the guide back in place, I drilled a hole through the head and to the center of the valve guide.
I then tapped the hole (#6-32) and put a bolt in far enough to extend into the valve guide but not far enough to touch the valve stem from sliding back in.
I used a nut on the bolt as a lock nut screwing it down the bolt and against the head.
I then put a hose clamp around where the screw was intalled.
It has to be a narrow hose clamp as the exterior part of the head only allows full 360 access around the valve guide in a narrow place.
Have been using it for a full tank of gas now and have had no problem.
    PS
One difference is I could not retrieve the exhaust pushrod that fell into the engine so it is laying in the deep sump. Not a problem unless I roll the tractor over ;-0)

If I were a JD fan I would choose this model but I am not.
I do like my Cub Cadet she purrs right along and mows oh so wonderful.
Great video sound is most excellent and etc .. Have a great day up there in Canada.

A B&S engine is just a B&S engine though. Doesn't matter what color the machine is painted. Cub Cadet has been a brand name but manufactured by MTD since about 1993 or so. Decent machines for sure. Built with more options and usually some heavier duty parts than some of the other less expensive MTD built ones like Yardworks, Yardman, Mastercraft (in Canada), etc.

Have you tried tack welding guides
It works great and only takes a second to do
I just ask customer if they would like to try it

I just put a good used head on and in winter I installed a set screw to hold guide in place

I sure wouldn't do what I do without it. I have a second lift outside the shop for quick jobs on motorcycles as well.
