    Hi Freddy, great effort! Have been on a similar journey to you, getting into running and trying to lose weight over the last four months! I've lost around 15 KG, and have seen my 5k time go down from 32 mins down to mid 23's in that time. Each time you do those PB attempts, and are flat out the idea of going a minute quicker seems impossible, but don't forget about the compounding nature of gaining fitness and losing weight. Cleverer people than me, have figured that each KG off, is about 3-4 seconds a mile quicker. So with your weight loss, and increasing fitness I'd wager you'll be under that 25 minutes in 5 weeks! Keep it up!

    "turns out it wasn't that long" (3:48) I had headphones on watching this and literally laughed out loud and everyone in the room looked at me, GJ, and gratz on the time!

    Top stuff Freddy! I know the feeling - when you’ve got a big goal in your head you’re so fixated on not yet achieving it that you sometimes are disappointed with the small wins. Bigger picture! Keep on.

    • @freddyruns
      @freddyruns  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you’ve actually just hit the nail on the head. I’ve been really thinking about why I may have felt like that and this is it! In my mind right now, the only acceptable result is sub 25. Thank you!! 😊

    Keep being consistent on your running and weight loss and the time will come. It obviously gets harder to improve as your time gets faster, I found it really hard to get under 26 minutes (my PB from 2016 and 2017 was 26-27 minutes) and when I lost a lot of weight last year it still took me time to get there - and you smashed that barrier! For me, I found that having a target person helped. There was an old (70+) man that seemed to be at my parkrun every week and was consistently at about 26 minutes, so I tried to stay with him and we ended up pushing each other. When you are close to your target (as you are) every little bit can help. But overall, it doesn't really matter, if you keep being consistent in your running you'll get there as your body adapts. I can comfortably now run a lot faster and longer, and it seems strange to think that 26 minutes was so hard - but it was!

    Great video as always Freddy! I've found that sometimes when I set a new challenge, go for it, and realise it's closer than expected... I feel a bit demotivated and down about it. I should feel overjoyed, but something about setting out an "impossible" challenge and immediately realising you've simply not had enough faith in yourself can be an upsetting realisation. This is just for me, I hope you're happy with your amazing PB now that you've had a chance to sleep on it. I'm finished my half marathon a month or so ago, was great fun! Training for a Marathon in November, but moving house tomorrow so taking a break while I sort that all out. All the best mate!

    That’s good stuff. Thanks for the inspiration. I have lost 10 kg and knocked 3 minutes of my time. Got a PB on the weekend and my first sub 30. I’m almost 57 now and would love to shave a bit more off my time. You have given my the motivation to crack on. Cheers!

    Very well done on your PB. I'm going to watch more Video's from your channel now and see if you achieved your sub 25 min 5K goal. I'm on a similar path. Got down to 25:36 in 2019 at parkrun. Put on a couple of stone in weight over Covid and working on taking it off now. Almost there and almost back to a healthy BMI. Currently at around 28:30 at parkrun and hoping to get under 25 mins this year as I turn 50.

    Achievements like these can feel odd, underwhelming and conflicted sometimes, I can certainly relate. Sometimes its just factors that just naturally fluctuate like mood, other times I find I can fall into the trap of hyping up the experience beforehand and expecting fireworks whilst the reality will always be far more mundane. Either way, that was fast, well done on the PB. May have felt weird this time but that is no reflection on how it will feel in future. You're smashing it.

    Maybe your reaction to the new PB was a result of the elation and emotion of your previous PB, 26:01, which was a shock and a huge improvement? You have done a lot of work and you feel, I only improved 10 seconds??? Totally understandable. Maybe use that "disappointment" as rocket fuel for you training going forward. I have so much admiration for you, to get up early and put yourself on the line for the ultimate judge, the clock. I turned 70 in June and I am in Florida, so I wont be racing until Oct. I get up on a running day at 4am, hydrate and drink coffee till 5:45am, because the heat index with the humdity at 7am is 85 degrees. My running has taken a turn for the better and I hope to win my age group, under 23 mins. Every run is a gift, good luck to you Mate!!!!!

Its right in the middle of my planned 5k races, medals to the top 3 in my age group, 70-74. Should I do it, or will I rip every tendon in my body in half?

    CONGRATULATIONS!! And what a beautiful course. That time is awesome, but not surprising- I have no doubt you'll be sub 24 by the end of the summer!! I wonder if your lack of enthusiasm has to do with speed vs distance? I find it difficult to get excited over shorter distances now... I still do the occasional 5/10ks and halfs, and I enjoy it and have fun, but I don't get excited about them or have the same sense of satisfaction anymore like I used to.

      In the back in my mind I have a few ludicrous targets - but they are long term goals… I turn 47 next month, one of my ludicrous goals it to run a sub 20 5km by the time I hit 50. It’s way out of reach now - but I’m going to leave it in my locker for the next couple of years and see how things go. I know it’s far fetched - but I like to dream 😊
