I would not be surprised if the next Smash Bros. game was "Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Deluxe." Like a Mario Kart 8 situation. I could see them porting it to whatever the next console will be, but add new DLC fighters, a few new stages, some rebalancing changes, etc.
i would honestly be fine with this for the meantime, ultimate plays well, and while a new smash game would be hype af, it would be cool to keep utilizing the ultimate engine because its probably the best one yet.

That's the wish fulfillment/ Unicorn option many of us want, but the problem is that unlike with Mario Kart with Smash there are dozens of other copyright holders/Studios at play that could make renewing the roster over and over again kind of a pain-just as a mild example it was basically revealed at the end of ultimate's DLC cycle that Sora was the character who won the Fighter Ballot for Sm4sh, but they couldn't reach a deal with Square and Disney in time for release so they went with a runner-up instead (Bayonetta). and that's just for one character..in the current roster, there are nearly 20 characters with those same kind of debates needed.
It would make sense, considering how much mental and physical pain Sakurai went through making these games.
It makes a lot of sense financially, but something a lot of people forget with all of these deluxe ports Nintendo has done is that most of them were Wii U titles, that a majority of the switch playerbase never had the opportunity to purchase or play - it made perfect sense to cash in and re-release them. Ultimate is already the best selling fighting game on Nintendo‘s best selling system, so while it would sell, I think a new game is what they would need to really entice both casual and competitive players.

Most characters focused on “swapping to another moveset” by an item or something, it would get boring and stale fast

The cuts I think doesn't make much sense in my eyes is Lucario and Ryu. For one, Lucario along side Pikachu and Charzard are among the most marketable Pokemon that the Pokemon Company want to bring back, let alone one outside of Gen 1. And Ryu is basically Mr. Crossover.

Duck Hunt, Ice Climbers and ROB can get cut because they're too obscure. Captain Falcon, Fox and Ness will always be welcomed with open arms.

Something I'd like to add to your final Smash idea. What if every character had three final smashes?
One that's just a big attack in a decently sized area (Neutral special), one that's a transformation final smash (down special), and one that's a short range cutscene final smash (Grab, or shield special).

Ur limiting moves that the characters can use without activating the final smash. The safest way is taunts and thats still kinda silly. Close range and far range is all some need

I feel like Daisy could stay in the roster with a unique moveset that reflects her Strikers Charged iteration ( I know the Strikers series is a spinoff game, but she's made for fighting in that game). Her flower abilities can be used for ariel combat while while she uses her crystal powers when on the ground.
Daisy not getting cut this guy just mad she on the roster instead of waluigi. He was made when she was playable in wonder.

I cant help but look at this from a competitive stand point. The whole “different forms” thing based on weapons or power ups (mega man is one of the examples he gave, makes a lot of sense design wise for making each character more closely match their respective games, but the meta would be so broken from it, I couldn’t see characters having more than 2 forms each.
Why cutting so much character from previous rosters ? What keep Smash Bros so much entertaining is adding new original challengers ! Some of them didn't have any game for a while ? Who care about that, they made history and that's enough for them to deserve appearing on Smash !

Making a video game is a huge process, and extremely difficult. As much as it sucks to get fighters cut, it's needed to keep the game release in time, and make sure the game makes money.

I love how nearly every single DLC character is cut except Banjo, you can smell the bias from a mile away.
Also, Bowser and DK have been changed to look and act more like themselves starting with Smash 4, it's just their voice clips haven't been changed to match those new animations and expressions they've received.

Jigglypuff should stay because of how unique the character is in Smash. I would like to see some move changes but the playstyle of a fast air fighter with limited ground options is very cool.
There’s still plenty of characters who shouldn’t be cut even outside of those characters. Sonic, Pac-Man and Steve are just a few of the characters who wouldn’t be cut

These are amazing ideas you have for a new Super Smash Bros game if the series gets a reboot, Nin10doland. As I love the idea of Characters Alt Outfits being actual outfits as with alt colors it never made sense why they didn't make more alt outfits for references to the game series they're from as I would love to see what Nintendo could do with this concept.

@@trainian71121AB just because it’s a great opportunity doesn’t mean it wasn’t difficult. It’s not like they were just giving out sora for free. It’s still Disney we are talking about of course it wouldn’t be impossible but it would def be easier to get back a lot of other characters over sora.
Maybe instead of having the character transform from the Final Smash you can have something called the legend gauge that makes the character transform and give them more powerful moves and stuff like that, because I just feel like the Final Smash should be the Final Smash

Here's a thought: What if the characters, due to smaller roster, have Style Choice. Where at the selection screen, you can swap out which version you use? Take Bowser for example. One could be bruiser style, but another could be sorcerer style, since he's had access to various spells and elements over the years. Another could be Transformation style, where he is weaker at default but can switch into some of his various transformations over the years(Fury, Dreamy, Cat, etc.), and another style being Commander Style, where he calls upon his minions to fight for him in a quick summon style.

This makes so much sense. Fewer characters but more customization within those characters to different ‘classes’ that represent their various forms from different games. Customization of moves wasn’t that popular in Smash 4 but I think the idea has potential if you use it this way.
Imagine if the next smash bros game focuses on indie game characters.

I think there is a way for R.O.B to remain in a way that adds to the franchise, which is to bring new versions of it that reference the current generation of Nintendo consoles
It could have a design reminiscent of the Switch 2, or whatever it's called, and its moveset could be based on the console's accessories and features.
It might seem like a bit of a drastic change, but hey! This is a reboot, isn't it? Not to mention that if the character is cut from most lists, maybe it's worth making him more interesting
Nintendo have absolutely no excuse to be lazy with Mario, Luigi and Peach this time around.

I think it would be cool if different alt costumes came with completely separate special moves. They could each be centered around power ups and transformations throughout each character’s history.
My take on Smash Bros legends is to keep everyone and add 17-26 new characters to make the current roster 100 fighters with the characters people want like paper mario, Lloyd, bandanna dee, waluigi, toad, rayman, and crash bandicoot etc
Personally I would have kept all the characters but that's just me.
Don't judge me, it's just how I feel. I get that we might not see a roster like Ultimate for a long while but a guy can imagine.

Look, I'm a fire emblem fan and absolutely love Ike. His games are some of my favorite ever, but 3 houses out sold, and was more loved than anything Ike's ever did. Wild take.
For the final smashes, what I think would be cool is if we actually are able to use more than just one final smash. It could make for some crazy finales. Heck, maybe certain ones can clash

For First Party Characters I also wouldn't Mind adding more Mother Characters like Ninten and Porky since the last Mother Rep we got so far is Lucas back at Brawl so I hope Nintendo will add possibly two more Mother Reps to make some of the fans happy. Plus The Mother series has not have a Villian let alone a New Character since Brawl.

If it's true that the entire story of Super Smash Bros. is about a kid playing with his toys, getting some new ones as well as growing up being peer pressured with the sentiment that you should grow out of what you did as a child, which is just yet another example of toxic masculinity, and eventually growing old and sending out those toys to someone new and young while they go out collecting rare figures and other miscellaneous merchandise.
The story of this new Smash should be a soft reboot where this new kid playing with these old toys have recently cleaned them up so that they're shiny and colorful as they once were, and the big story mode just so happens to involve 2 large entities that clash with each other, reflecting a child's parental guardians having clashing ideals, so this would be used as a coping mechanism. Quite poetic if I do say so myself.
Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf have the BIGGEST amount of potential for new movesets! Link has his arm, Zelda has her light, and Ganondorf has his gloom control.

I REALLY HOPE that they include more representations of games ( Sly Cooper, Ratchet and Clank, ect. ) and they bring back Fire mario and Black yoshi and other stages. The true final smash brothers game would come and I actually had a prediction with the same name as this
smash bros was highly based off of kirby's movesets in super star. He literally has dedicated movesets in his games, i'm surprised they did absolutely nothing to change him over the years considering that, especially since he's almost always low tier

Two new things I'd like to add:
A mode where you could play as Master Hand and fight against all tge fight until your percent hits zero.

I first thought super smash bros legends would be a mobile game since super smash bros ultimate is already nintendo switch's super smash bros game and it's currently too early to announce a game for the switch 2
Nintendo not making any more mobile games. It been six years sense ultimate was released.
I've been thinking the same thing. Cut some characters out so we can really focus down on the ones we keep. I wouldn't miss Young Link if they cut him. But if they changed his kit so that he could become Goron, Zora, and Deku Link with d-pad directionals (replacing his taunts), it would completely revitalize his character in a way that wouldn't miss ROB, Duck Hunt, Wii Fit Trainer, etc.

@@noobmaster7035 you are only half right. They shouldn’t have characters reuse gimmicks, but that doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t use them at all. Every character should have a special gimmick that’s unique to them. They would still be unique from each other as there all different but would give every character a sense of uniqueness

Daisy should be her own character with a sports-based outfit and moveset, rather than just 'slightly different Peach'.
As long as they keep Young Link I don’t care who’s in it, that being said, it would be cool to see him with his Majora’s Mask gameplay as his moveset including his Fierce Deity Mask as like a Final Smash move.

iirc what Sakurai said is that they could have gone two directions with Smash Bros. Ultimate... what they have today or a Smash reworked from the ground up and they went with the: "Everyone is here!" It was a separate Famitsu article in which he said he has no idea how he is going to match this game (Smash Ultimate).

sorry but cutting Robin is stupid he is a super unique fire emblem character and represents the rebirth of fire emblem . He is way more important then Ike who Is pretty irrelevant
Robin is a definite must stay, especially after winning the Choose Your Legends event twice now, however, Ike is still extremely relevant today thanks to the mobile game and is still Fire Emblem's most popular character to this. He even won a poll for characters to appear in the first Fire Emblem Warriors game and people boycotted the game when he didn't show up.
Keep Pichu, redesign Pikachu. Everyone on the planet cuts Pichu first and everyone on the planet is wrong
I think it would be cool if there were more stages like onett, where it’s like you are actually in the environment of the game as opposed to on a platform floating above it.
Not a complete departure from the floating platform stages just more of the stages as described above.
I think making the characters (almost) ALL like Shulk, in the way that they could change a property/properties with maybe the neutral b, is one of the best ideas you’ve ever had. And I have said it before and I will say it so many times until I die,

19:41 To me, Ultimate’s challenges are unbeatable without a skip hammer. I was having a hard time with the one where you need to get a high score of three KOs in Cruel Smash and no matter what fighter I use, the evil Miis are impossible to fight and there’s a high-likely chance you get eliminated within the first 10 seconds of the battle. So I used a skip hammer to complete it instantly with a mark saying it was still incomplete but when I did that, I was like “Oh no. What would’ve happened if I didn’t have any hammers on me?” Which is why in my opinion, the challenges are unbeatable.

I agree with all of what you said in this video but i want tails as the extra playable sonic character and speed highway from sa1 and twinkle park and studiopolis added as stages and we need classic sonic and classic tails as alternate costumes. We also need each character in classic mode to have their own fmv endings

And I completely doubt smash bros would do this with Sonic of all people. Even Mario doesn’t have stuff like custom skin endings. Unless Nintendo decides to put in a bunch of effort and do this type of stuff for every character I don’t see Sonic getting this.

I feel like having Mario as the default sort of fighter with basic punches and physical attacks is okay (he is the face of Nintendo after all), but if there is one character who should take up a role like that, it would be the Mii’s.
They are pretty much default characters on their own who represent one of three different types of fighters in smash. Brawler is akin to physical fighters like Mario and Captain Falcon, Swordfighter matches with Link, Marth, and others in the sword aspect, and Gunner is an expert in projectiles and long range combat just like Samus and Fox. They are supposed to represent the stereotypical character of their type. Basic is plastered on their body, and that’s supposed to make sense. They are essentially just bases for you to insert anyone you want with a moveset as simple as can be.
For Mario, it makes sense to have him be the primary basic character in the grand scheme of things, but given how I described the Mii’s, then Mario should definitely have a more “Mario” moveset. Maybe have his side special use Cappy, incorporate the cape feather into his recovery, use the Bubble flower to trip opponents up, and all around just put Mario references up the players noggin. If the literal face of gaming itself is gonna be represented in smash, then there’s gotta be references off and on to really do this idea neatly done up in a bow.
All that I’m trying to say is, Mario being the “default” diplomat isn’t bad, it’s just that the Mii fighters really are a summery to that idea more. Better yet, if the Mii fighters aren’t enough, maybe just make someone like sandbag into a fighter and give the most basic moves possible to him instead. That could really hit home as well.
YES! For crying out loud, we need more Sonic fighters, not have them just run around in the stage background or have them as assist trophies, PLEASE!
I’m staying out of this for the next Smash game, I know exactly how painful it is for having your favourite character cut off and also never having your favourite character in Smash, I know the other’s pain and I can’t take this anymore, hopefully you’ll enjoy the smash reboot
Agreed. My biggest worry about a new Smash is that it's practically guaranteed there will be cuts - probably massive cuts.
I know how much it sucked when my main from Melee, Mewtwo, got cut from Brawl. I was in utter disbelief - especially when he was the only character to get cut who wasn't a clone, whilst the game still brought back Falco, who *was* a clone (and even added another Fox clone!), and then there's Ganondorf, who defenitely needed to come back - but he was still a Falcon clone. In fact even Falco felt more 'de-cloned' than Ganondorf did.
As for Ultimate, I had been waiting for 15 years for characters like Ridley and K. Rool, and was also ecstatic to see Dark Samus (despite being a clone). All of these characters have since become my mains, along with Mewtwo. It would sure be pretty lame if any of them get the axe fir the next Smash, and the begging cycle begins again.

Might be the best we can hope for if we dont want a lot of character cuts. But even then, Nintendo is going to need to re-license all of those 3rd party characters again.
Still, I like to see a true 'Adventure Mode' make a return. Something like Brawl but more interesting, with stages more like Melee's mode, unlike Subspace Emisarry which had you going through generic levels that had no connection to any actual Nintendo IP outside of the occasional vague similarity.

14:20 - 14:41 I like the idea, but there's a slight problem with that and that is the age rate for the game. Nintendo would probably want Super Smash Bros Legends to be Rate E for everyone, so you would need to add characters from games that fit along those lines.

I'm pretty sure he doesn't play fighting games other than Smash and has no idea who Kazuya even is. Because Street Fighter and Tekken are easily some if the most 'legendary' gaming IPs in the history of the medium, and still are today.
This is a great concept for a post-Ultimate Smash game!
Especially with the character roster. It was a lot more reasonable than I was expecting. Not cutting anyone too iconic to the point of being nonsensical.
I think A FEW of the Echo Fighters will stay. Since they were always just easy-to-add freebies anyway. And there's potential for new ones too. But otherwise, no beef there.
A proper Story/Adventure Mode is my number 1 want if we're gonna cut the roster back down. I could kinda understand Smash Ultimate not having a mode as ambitious as Subspace with THAT many characters... But I'm ready for another go at it, with more hype moments and unlikely team ups. Please.
Next I want more of the old side modes back. As great as Smash Ultimate was in sheer content for Smash matches... it cut a lot of staples like Break the Targets & other stuff. Need those. (Random, but would love Coin Launcher back)
Personally I'm fine if we stick with Spirits. Since they're clearly easier to add than fully rendered Trophys... but bring back DESCRIPTIONS. So we can actually learn about those characters in-game.

And finally... fix the online. PLEASE. We honestly just need For Glory & For Fun back. Because there's no reason they needed to change it to where there's a non-zero chance to get regular matches, and vice-versa. I love the Smash Team, but that was embarrassing.
But yeah, if they do everything in this video, plus my own hopes. Its a perfect follow-up to Ultimate imo. Quantity is great, but I would them to really lock back into quality as well.
What I’m looking forward to in this new Smash game is a Subspace Emissary or Smash Run. So basically a new story mode with real enemies because I miss fighting them.

I just had an idea: level mode: similar to the levels in subspace emissary, but auto generated, and infinite, kinda like a minecraft world, and filled with enemies, killing enemies and advancing gives you points, and there are item boxes and such, also, the platforming can get a little trickier when you advance, although adjusted for characters that are not good at it, scenarios can change and such. I know its weird.
I love this idea because I love exploring the great maze in the subspace emissary and fighting the enemies

I disagree with cutting anyone, especially with echo fighters as a concept now. Having your favorite character cut is too painful, even for Roy and Pichu bros. out there.
Not cutting young link and making him use his masks to transform from MM and OOT for his regular moveset is exactly what I've been saying for nearly 20 years. I always wanted to see him as a "challenger approaching" so the crowd would get really disappointed, only to watch him have completely new moves, and potentially more moves than anyone other than maybe Pokemon trainer. Young link + 3 transformations + turn into fierce diety Link for his final smash.
For newcomer choices, I would definitely lean into fan favorites to compensate for all the characters that were cut. It's a little hard to decide between Waluigi, Toad, and Geno for base game. Waluigi would absolutely destroy the internet, Peach's new moveset would finally free up Toad to become a playable fighter, and I personally would just love to see Geno finally join Ridley, King K. Rool, and Banjo & Kazooie in battle. I like the idea of Cranky Kong as both a new Donkey Kong rep and a joke character. We definitely need a non-clone Zelda newcomer, and I think Impa fits the bill. I want Bandana Dee playable to finally complete the Kirby quartet. I do expect that we'll get some obligatory promo picks like Sylux, a new Fire Emblem character, and perhaps a new Pokémon Trainer with a completely different trio of Pokémon from Legends: Z-A (probably Piplup, Servine, and Cinderace). Noah & Mio, I think, would have pretty good chances to make it in too. I think one of either Crash or Rayman would make base game, with the other being saved for DLC, but I personally lean more toward an epic double reveal of Crash and Spyro for base game. I think Shadow might be the first choice for a new Sonic rep, but I would also be happy with Tails. Dude, your idea of Kratos and Master Chief is BRILLIANT!!! I would save those two for DLC.

Saying "doesnt make sense in modern day" and cutting steve, the most recognizable character on the roster, does not make sense.
Cutting chrom, robin and byleth in my opinion doesn't make sense since awakening saved fire emblem and three houses is the fire emblem that most people played and both robin and byleth are unique (we could also put alear or veyle as a new character from engage). Same with cutting greninja, lucario and palutena. In new mario characters i prefer geno but having 10 characters is a bit much (i know it's mario). For new characters i would love noah, matthew or A (xenoblade chronicles), impa or lana (hyrule warriors), as i said alear or veyle, and spyro.

This is very well thought out.
I would go even farther in slashing the roster - make hardline rules for who can be considered "a legend." First, it has to be the main character of the series. So, goodbye Jigglypuff and all the bad guy characters. Second, the series of that main character has to have had AT LEAST 7 games in it (not counting spin-offs), which is the number of Starfox games so far...I'm assuming he has the least number of games of all the "legends." Third, at least one of those games has to have been on a Nintendo console in the current or last generation.
But don't worry -- all the main bad guys slashed from the roster (ie, Bowswer, Ridley, King Dedede) would still be in the game...as opponents in the Adventure Mode. Additionally, DLC characters would be directly tied to the DLC storyline additions made to the Adventure Mode, so these aren't necessarily everyone's favorite characters, but they would play a major role in where the story goes next for each DLC added to the game. This would make an incredibly engaging experience for players, I think, and it would keep the focus on the true "legends" angle of the game, as we experience our main heroes going through a huge epic adventure and picking up new characters along the way in their fight against their archenemies, who have teamed up in their evil plans.
