    That is some crazy rust. I really didn't think that the place where you live, mathers so much when it comes to rust. Good job, well done! Greetz from Holland!

      It's really embarrassing to be honest mate 😬🙈
      I wish I had looked after the underside better when I first bought the car 12 years ago. But I'm determined to get it sorted, as I want this car to still be going for another 12 years at least 😁👍🏻
      Cheers Tim 😊

    Awesome work. Next time when doing an oil change and you change the sump plug. keep the oid sump plug, it works a treat when changing discs you can use the sump plug to keep the disc in place the threads are the same as the wheel bolt thread and its nice and short.

      Awesome tip mate 👌🏻 much appreciated.
      I have a reusable magnetic sump plug but I'm sure I have a normal spare one that I can use for this purpose.

    Another great video for us Leon owners. I've done well then, as my 06 Leon has only needed 1 rear caliper as it approaches its 18th birthday in June. Have you considered something like Lanoguard to protect all the running gear?

    • @NorthCoastWorkshop
      @NorthCoastWorkshop  ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers mate, and yeah that's really good going for your calipers 👌🏻 Yes I've watched a few videos on it and looks like good stuff to use. I'm hoping to get the underside and suspension components refurbished/replaced, completely overhauled, then treated with something to protect it ongoing. Watch this space 👀😎👍🏻

    Great info you did a great job. wish i had the bottle to buy yellow when i got mine in 2008, such a great colour on the Leon.

      yeah yellow is one of the slightly rarer colours, but I admit I do quite like the red and blue Cupra's too. Maybe as I'm getting older now, I'm wanting a more 'normal' colour 😅🙈

    I've the same issue with a rear caliper, it's pretty new but did spot a few slits in the piston rubber ... Same corrosion as mine been a Scottish car as well haha

    • @NorthCoastWorkshop
      @NorthCoastWorkshop  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Corrosion is a nightmare! The amount of salt / sand / grit on the roads attacks the cars. I understand the safety requirement for road users, but always sad to see the side effects on our cars.
      Hope it's straightforward enough for ur caliper mate 🤞🏻😊

    Geeeeez mate the rust, I use ACF 50 underneath every time I change the engine oil.. I've got the 2022 Leon.

      Yeah she's rusty under there. The highland roads have been hard on her over the past 13 years sadly, but looking to address that later in the year hopefully 😁🤞🏻

      @@NorthCoastWorkshopI started to use the stuff on my brand new car, around my area the council in Scotland uses a lot of salt on the roads. I wash my callipers every week in the winter when possible with a special brush. Just changed my winter tyres and they're still looking new.

    • @NorthCoastWorkshop
      @NorthCoastWorkshop  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah the council up here use loads too, and it's full of coarse sand as well. It literally sandblasts the underside of the car.
      Once refurbished I'll look to get it treated and I'll look into that ACF50 stuff so much appreciated mate 👍🏻

    That's some serious rust... my 2006 Leon 1p1 (1.9 Tdi BKC engine) has a different rear calipers set made by TRW (PR 1KD) which has never seized in its entire life (i bought the car new at the time) 230.000 kms on the odometer (143.000 Mi for the Miles heads). I'm in the process of installing her new second set of rear disks (and 4 th pads set). I live in northern Italy (which has a similar climate to the south of England) but the rust I have in the underbody isn't even close to that of your car. Maybe it has to do with the less salt that is put on the roads in the winter. Next jobs on the list are: Timing belt and water pump, thermostat, serpentine belt and all shock absorbers... wish me luck 🤣The cost of living are mad right now... i have to keep that "bitch" running another 5 years....

    • @NorthCoastWorkshop
      @NorthCoastWorkshop  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Cheers for watching and leaving a comment mate. Yeah the cost of living is crazy at the moment, so I'm the same. I have to keep this car going for as long as possible. Fixing her up as I go.
      The rust is the worst bit but it's all replaceable components which I look to do very soon. They put loads of salt mixed with fine grit and sand on the roads up here in Scotland, and it sandblasts the underside of cars sadly 😞 Cars that are only 5/6 years old are already very bad for rust
      Best of luck with the jobs ahead of you on your car mate 🤞🏻

      Cheers mate, I'll look into that stuff 👍🏻 probably gonna have it all off soon to recondition the rear underside, so will have to give it all some treatment then before setting it back on its wheels.
