Love that you went over the wiring portion of this. Maybe I’m the lone geek of the group but I like working on these electrical systems. Making it look oem and tying into the factory system is definitely the way to go 👊
On my wife's 04 Tahoe, I built a long wand out of 1/4" plastic toilet / sink feed line, drilled 20 or so tiny holes all evenly in one side, plugged one end, and hooked up my air gun to it. I lowered it down vertically between rad and A/C cooler forcing air forward through the cooler, a ton of dirt / dust came out and her A/C has stayed blowing cold.

Best thing you can do to a non E fan equipped truck!! I did it to my 00 GMC, and 02 Tahoe. Especially here in the desert. Stoplight with A/C going with that crap mechanical was miserable, even when trucks were new, swampy as humid air. It really shined when I pull a water trailer to wet down the tractor truck yard, chill air ( 110 day 55 degrees vent temp) at 3 mph letting the water tank pump spray down the yard. I did have to upgrade the radiator on the GMC as I wanted the tow package radiator. Tahoe came with big rad from factory. I used fans off of 08 6.0 Escalades for both. I did buy the harness from BP Automotive, I also got the optional high pressure switch from them that uses A/C high pressure to kick on fans not just temp. I also added a 300 amp alternator. Your wiring skills are like my brothers, good job. ( Hes retired now from Denver Intl Airport) I did see a 1 MPG increase on the GMC, nothing on the Tahoe.

When those fans kick on they do pull power, and if you have the ac going, along with music, headlights are on etc, your amp gauge will dip. Keep an eye on that shitty Amazon wiring! Def don't want them to melt either. Again--these fans do draw power. Nice vid--again 👍🏻

I did the same to my 03 Silverado, trust me you won't be disappointed. I commented back on one of your old videos and told you that you would love them. I bought the harness for mine though
I fab'ed one of these into the wife's 99 2dr Tahoe. Had to do some creative trimming and mounting but got it in and wired up quite cleanly. I did make a whoops and wired both fans into one relay almost melting the poor thing. Rewired two relays and it works like a dream.

I have a Black Bear Performance tune. They turn the efans on by default with any tune for the GMT800’s imho, it’s probably the best mod you can do for these trucks (BBP tune) it’s a little spendy, but so worth it!
Matt! I love your attitude, your superb mechanics skills and knowledge, the clarity in which you teach others, and the fact so far I've never heard a cuss word so my Grandson who's 8 can watch and learn too. You're helping alot of people Brother, especially me, just bought my 3rd Yukon, only have 1 but have owned others in the past but mine has issues. It's a 2000 YUKON 4X4 5.3 SLT, 328,000 but you would never know, it looks clean and nice. My transmission hits hard in 2nd & 3rd, BUT ONLY after highway speeds, 50 mph & over. Then when I start again from a stop once first gear goes into 2nd, it hits hard, then the next gear, 3rd, then the next gear is a smooth transition. NOW HERES THE THING, ANYONE CAN ANSWER BUT I HOPE MATT DOES TOO. When I get off the highway I pull over at the nearest safe spot, shut the truck off for 2 minutes, start it up, goes through all the gears just fine, AS LONG AS I KEEP IT AT AROUND TOWN SPEEDS, UP TO ABOUT 45 MPH seems to be the sweet spot to keep it shifting correctly. HERE'S MY QUESTION: I I replace ALL the Solenoids located under the trans pan do you think that should fix my issue? I already replaced the shift sensor located on the driver's side of the throttle body. Any help would be greatly appreciated...
Sounds like your transmission needs a maintenance or (hopefully not) a rebuild. Greets from Germany, I drive a 6" suspension lifted '03 Suburban on 35s. Shop had to rebuild my 3rd n 4th gear last winter.
@@Rokx80 Sorry to hear you had to rebuild the gears, and thank you for the information. Your truck sounds nice. Mine has a 3in lift but going to a 6 eventually myself too. I'm going to replace the Solenoids in the 4L60-E Transmission first, if that doesn't work off to the tranny shop to spend about $2,500.00 to rebuild it. The truck is worth it, everything is pretty much new already from having to upgrade many parts this last year since I bought it. They're only going to go up in value, especially when the world is getting worse and worse, people are going to want 4x4's and trucks to bug out. My truck is my BUG OUT VEHICLE, it's set up for overlanding. Cheers from Southern Utah U.S.A. Brother. I live in America but I'm Welsh & Scott's Irish.
I've never done the "tune" when doing the "E-fan" conversion, I use the factory fans with a "Stand-alone" controller from Flex-A-Lite. Been doing this since 2007, with absolutely 0% negative effects. The Flex-A-Lite controller has a temperature control range from 160°-210°. I always set it to around 170°-180° & it fires the fans up like clockwork.
Buying credits solely for the purpose of triggering some fans seems a bit extra, I'll do it on mine at some point but only because it's already unlocked. We've all got different priorities when it comes to budgeting i suppose.
Glad the fans worked out, definitely have to do mine. Took at shot in the dark at the local dealer to see if they could unlock fan control while they were programming my master window switch, no dice. have to check the local tuner to see.
Excellent. Get a tube of automotive electrical silicone grease and put some on each fuse & relay pin when assembling. In fact use it on all the electrical connection points. If the Auto Zone guy looks weird (or tries to sell you tiny light bulb packets of the stuff for way too much money) just find someone who knows what you are asking for. It will prevent corrosion down the road and helps a lot with the cheap Chinese metal used in pins and fuse blades.
Ok video but you confused the hell out of me with the hp tune ac recirqe 02 and down. Cut the wire? Like if you made the harness vs using the factory harness? Do I put it on fan2 using the factory harness or your only changing that for the home made harness?
I appreciate ya Matt, I have a 99 chev tahoe two door that I'm building now and am incorporating pretty much everything you have on yours, your videos are not boring as shit like most
Thank you for a very well instruction Efan upgrade. I've got everything to make the conversion except someone with HP tuner to help flash the ECU. Can one be rented?
I knew the aftermarket harnesses had 3 relays and just assumed it was to run both fans while the A/C was on but now I see you run them in series to get both on a low speed I figured the tune says fan 1 and fan 2 so I figured it didn't matter but I assume that if mine calls for fan 2 it will cut off my fan 1 I don't really test that they both work manually like you did
I just completed this upgrade. I bought an aftermarket harness. When I trigger fan stage 1, it goes to high speed. When I trigger fan stage 2, it goes to low speed. The trigger wires are blue and green. I matched them to the PCM plug of corresponding color per my instructions. I'm figuring the harness is just backwards.
Sir, I have a 2001 gmc Sierra SLT 1500 5.3 I’m wanting to convert the glutch fan to e fans I live in El Paso texas where can I go to have this done, I mean what kind of shop would I be looking for, I’ve heard that the wording harmed and Altima tot had to be up graded, nit sure how true that is, thank and I’m now following you as to your intelligence to you how to do.
Just installed a set of electric fans on my 03 gmc yukon denali. I just have one question at what temperature are they supposed to turn on. My temperature goes past the 210 for sure with my old clutch fan temperature was below 210. I feel like is gunna overheat never seen it go more than 210 is this normal?
If you have HPTuners, just copy the settings from a vehicle that came with them from the factory (like an '06 Tahoe or whatever). 210 is normal though, should stay at that temp and really never go over unless you're towing something heavy.
I did this recently with my 02, pin 33 was still having issues with my Blue/Red ECU connections, had two ECU’s programmed. Couldn’t get it to work, so I just spliced into pin 42 and solved my issue. But love your clean install.
@@jimmyramirez8844 honestly I can’t remember but I had to jump the wire for both fans to work. I have a red green connector on my ECU, from what I gathered is you want red blue connectors or an ECU from a red blue.
+The electric fan add approximately 27 ft.lbs of torque NOT HP... A very noticeable difference... Propelled fan do Rob power though, but compared to the amperage that the fans draw from the alternator that takes more power to turn... So who's really winning when it comes to saving gas vs more power when converting to E-fans etc??? I don't know... 1 thing I do know. It looks way better w/the electric fans. For the money that these E-fans cost. On saving gas to the price tag, Hell it would take months/years to get your money worth & back...
Matt i had a tuner set up my computer on my 2001 chevy silverado. It had the wire pined on pin 33 red cover and i took it off as you mentioned. I went ahead and plugged in the new wire from the ac fans relay box from factory. The tuner set it up as 2 fan and analog. With the analog setting the compressor keeps running and doesnt cycle and it freezes up my ac and stops working. Do you have any idea or do you recommend something? Thank love your videos 👍
@@gerardolopez5875 No I had the tuner put the settings back to analog cycling that the only way the ac doesn't freeze and the compressor cycles how it should. The only downfall is the that fan 1 is always on but it doesn't hurt anything. The cooler the engine runs more horse power. The only way to fix the issue is to change the computer to a 2004 to 2006.
@@macielandsons @ agree, I’ve done 5.3 on 2 of my c10s with 04 harness/pcm, And using 3 pin transducer, its the way to go, Here the only downfall its drive by wire,,, But on my 2001 silverado, Iam just planning the best way to electric fans,
Matt you should put fuseable links where your 12v+ tie into you main fuse block lug. Otherwise you have those 2-3 feet of wire un fused. Not a huge risk but for me worth doing.
My 03 Yukon Denali is doing the same thing, you can hear that "big diesel rig" whine when it accelerates, and the AC blows warm at idle. Also it seems the recirculate switch isn't actually closing it off.......thoughts?
Who did your tuning for the efans I have my efans on but the tune isn’t working right it drops the volts with the ac on when I come to a stop. Already have a new 130amp alternator
So I did my efan swap. Pinned both wires to the PCM that was reprogrammed as needed. Did all of this with a harness removed from a known good 2005 Silverado. Now I'm stuck chasing a problem I haven't seen in watching at least a dozen videos about this swap.... my relays are going nuts. I haven't done any wire chasing, mostly because I don't know where to start. It's not like there is room for any level of mistake. If the fans are plugged in backward then the wrong fan comes on. If the PCM pins are wired backward then, again, the wrong fan would come on. What it sounds like is that the PCM is pushing a PWN signal to the fans. All 3 relays are clicking away at about 15 Hz, but slightly offset. WTH is going on?
Was thinking of doing this on my 02 aside from the compressor went out mine sits around 190 with the clutch fan. I just am not sure I wanna invest time on a rust bucket.
How much miles you got on it as long as you know it'll run for another couple years you should do it , price don't change much on these so it's worth it
@@aarsoul9860 338000. Only the body is really rusty. Aside from timing and changing some pulleys it's still strong. Just wanna get into something 03+ for the updated interior probably the hardest thing for me to get over lol.
That relay box is nice I got just some cheap relay harness things with pig tails and had one or both melt and I had to re run some but I did find some relay sockets that you crimp the actual connections like yours but just individual which I highly recommend and it just makes things cleaner
Could you just wire them to a switch and flip it when the Gauge gets to half way( or 210 temp )? If a guy was in a pinch and just wanted to know they were turning on when he wanted.
You need to upgrade alternator. Phoenix last summer at idle ran my voltmeter to like 9-10. I did those fans on my 2000 Escalade. It really did clean up the engine bay. I now have a 2004 Escalade ext that surprisingly came without electric fans. I’m going to do this to this one now but like I said I also need to upgrade alternator to a 300 amp one or higher. Those fans have a huge current draw.
You should check your refrigerant level. My trailblazer i run two electric fans from a 2002 camaro. With both fans on with low refrigerant was cold but not super. Then once I was able to determine my shrader was leaking it was cold even with no fans on at all.
Hey brother I have the same truck ac cold as hell when driving just had the ac compressor changed but when I’m at idle the ac sucks at cooling is that all these trucks that are like that ?

I don't like doing wiring but it's always nice to see someone do it so you can get pointers and see if they do something better
You're not alone... 😂👍

Buick 3.8L eFan conversion time! Thanks for the vid!
How would you reverse the polarity? I think my fans are pushing instead of pulling air.
When the beat dropped at 2:50, I thought that beat from spongebob dancing with the jellyfish was gonna start playing 😂😂😂
Been thinking about doing this
I did a Hayden dual fan module,With the Radiator Probe the only thing is fans would over heat it and burn up,So the leads to the fans I threw in a 60amp relay to each fan and haven't had any problems.Great video.
Is your setup still working good I want to upgrade to e fans but I don't want to mess with pcm
I have an 2003 burb with 5.3 LM7. I’ve been thinking about swapping to oem efan to help mpg and some more hp? 2003-2004 5.3 285hp. 2005-2006 5.3 295hp. Only difference is flex fuel compatibility and switch from mechanical to electric fans. Guessing the fan switch is what netted the +10hp.
I did the same to my 03 Silverado, trust me you won't be disappointed. I commented back on one of your old videos and told you that you would love them. I bought the harness for mine though
With the factory harness was it just plug and play or did you have to still get into the computer to wire to the pins
@@daddyshark3896 I bought an aftermarket harness that was built for these fans, still had to pin the computer plug and tune it
@@daddyshark3896 even with a factory harness you would have to tune it regardless
@@USArmy05 oooh ok sounds good
I fab'ed one of these into the wife's 99 2dr Tahoe. Had to do some creative trimming and mounting but got it in and wired up quite cleanly. I did make a whoops and wired both fans into one relay almost melting the poor thing. Rewired two relays and it works like a dream.
Been waiting for this one! Good stuff
I have a 2003 Tahoe Z71 Have the fans and I used the Nelson after market harness ! ( was telling my lady I wired the power the way you Finally did it ! Where did you get the download for flashing the computer ! I'm a Jersey transplant in Colorado and now one knows what I'm talking about flashing the computer ! I have all the temps and sure I could do it! (novice) found one place to flash it and they wan't my first born in return ! I'm visiting Jersey in a few weeks and would go to Lakewood to have it done if it's reasonable !
I have a Black Bear Performance tune. They turn the efans on by default with any tune for the GMT800’s imho, it’s probably the best mod you can do for these trucks (BBP tune) it’s a little spendy, but so worth it!
@@heysoos223 Thanks I'm hitting all options! I do have a Flex a Lite controller which I can use temporarily just need a radiator thermostat probe!
You should get an Airaid modular intake tube. It will clean up the front of the engine a lot.
I'm very glad that you made this video. I am ready to do this conversation on two of my vehicles.
One question. Can you tell if they are pulling or pushing air.
Seems like a fan switch and relay would suffice you can always use two inputs on the relay for a/c purposes
The point is keeping it oem style
Buying credits solely for the purpose of triggering some fans seems a bit extra, I'll do it on mine at some point but only because it's already unlocked. We've all got different priorities when it comes to budgeting i suppose.
When I did mine. I did not like the high fans running for the ac at hwy speeds.
Awesome shirt man. Ratt is one of my favorite bands 🤟
Glad the fans worked out, definitely have to do mine. Took at shot in the dark at the local dealer to see if they could unlock fan control while they were programming my master window switch, no dice. have to check the local tuner to see.
Looks like a simple ladder diagram. It's good to see a plan come together like this. Gives me hope.
Could I do everything you’re doing to this Tahoe to my 04 Yukon xl RWD?
What music are you using at 18:23 song & artist?. I’m really digging the video and music.
When you was dropping the fans what was that squeaky sound my truck make that same noise
Hey did the e-fans end up saving fuel?
Nice job and a great video! Can't wait to do this to my TBSS.
I have a 01 GMC that has pin 33 taken installed new ac system all relays and fuses are good do I need to tell my tuner to switch to analog?
Awesome video dude this how TH-cam videos should be! Very informative, keep up the good work brotha!
Going to do this to my 04 SS Silverado. Thank you so much for the how to video. Subscribed 🏁
Minute 24:32 grounds?
Just installed a set of electric fans on my 03 gmc yukon denali. I just have one question at what temperature are they supposed to turn on. My temperature goes past the 210 for sure with my old clutch fan temperature was below 210. I feel like is gunna overheat never seen it go more than 210 is this normal?
If you have HPTuners, just copy the settings from a vehicle that came with them from the factory (like an '06 Tahoe or whatever). 210 is normal though, should stay at that temp and really never go over unless you're towing something heavy.
I clicked on the video cause the dude was wearing a Ratt shirt, that is fucking awesome!
I did this recently with my 02, pin 33 was still having issues with my Blue/Red ECU connections, had two ECU’s programmed. Couldn’t get it to work, so I just spliced into pin 42 and solved my issue. But love your clean install.
Did your pin 33 have a wire already in it and was your ac compressor coming on ?
I have a 2004 z71 tahoe...Would i need to flash the computer if i got the factory harness????
Can this be applied to Obs Trucks? Looking to install electric fans on my 95 GMC Sierra
I did this too just wired them both to a switch I do wanna upgrade the alternator though cause they pull some power
Did u ever figured out??
Which one is fan 1 and which one is fan 2
Are both supposed to come on low and high once up to set temp, or is one fan low and one fan for high
LOVE YOUR 80S ROCK T SHIRTS YO ....
Can I get a copy of the wiring diagram?
Was thinking of doing this on my 02 aside from the compressor went out mine sits around 190 with the clutch fan. I just am not sure I wanna invest time on a rust bucket.
How much miles you got on it as long as you know it'll run for another couple years you should do it , price don't change much on these so it's worth it
@@aarsoul9860 338000. Only the body is really rusty. Aside from timing and changing some pulleys it's still strong. Just wanna get into something 03+ for the updated interior probably the hardest thing for me to get over lol.
are you going to need to upgrade the alternator to compensate for the extra draw?
Voltage gauge is reading the same, haven’t noticed any difference.
That relay box is nice I got just some cheap relay harness things with pig tails and had one or both melt and I had to re run some but I did find some relay sockets that you crimp the actual connections like yours but just individual which I highly recommend and it just makes things cleaner
Which crimping tool did you use for the pcm pins?
Please post up an update. Want to know if you've ran into other issues, like wires melting or alternator is not pull amperage, battery is drain out?
Where did you buy the led dash and cluster lights from
Could you just wire them to a switch and flip it when the Gauge gets to half way( or 210 temp )? If a guy was in a pinch and just wanted to know they were turning on when he wanted.
You need to upgrade alternator. Phoenix last summer at idle ran my voltmeter to like 9-10. I did those fans on my 2000 Escalade. It really did clean up the engine bay. I now have a 2004 Escalade ext that surprisingly came without electric fans. I’m going to do this to this one now but like I said I also need to upgrade alternator to a 300 amp one or higher. Those fans have a huge current draw.
Electric fans started in '05 for these.
Bro you are the Steve Made to car repair. Your videos help me out a 1000 percent
Make sure the charge is correct on the refrigerant. If it’s good then the fan clutch is most likely bad.
I was looking for a tuner how much are the tune went to a tune shop and it said it's over $10,000
You obviously have great taste in music as well !!
