@Adolf Hitler don’t know how old you are but I can surely say I remember my childhood pretty well. I wasn’t allowed to play with “boys” toys. Like cars or planes. Radio controlled toys.
I got given toys that basically are to prepare you for the chores women have like ironing boards and play hoovers.
I can very much say people did care if you were wearing pink or blue.
      I’m 26.
      It wasn’t that long ago

    • @AdriCr4ft
      @AdriCr4ft 3 ปีที่แล้ว +22

@Adolf Hitler but why does it make sense? Why can’t a girl enjoy playing with army toys?
The ironing toy is exactly that. A plastic iron with a plastic ironing board so you could pretend to iron.
My point is just that with me, I wasn’t “allowed” to play with those. Because they were for “boys”.
I also wasn’t allowed to play with boys.
      Had to be girls only.
There are people today that won’t let their son play with a barbie doll because it will turn them “gay” same with wearing purple or pink colours.
I don’t think colours has anything to do with anything.
Girls like blue too. But parents always will dress their baby girls in pink.
Now a days it is fair to say it’s changing. But it’s still very much around.
A guy wearing a pink shirt does not make him gay in my eyes.
If I had an option, I would have wanted to play with the cool RC cars the boys played with.
I hid a bayblade and that was my hidden toy I would play with everyone at school with.
So yes we are not that far away age wise.
Edit; just thought of something even more explanatory- gaming consoles.
Its always a surprise seeing a “girl” play Xbox and it’s mostly men or boys commenting on it.
I had 2 friends they were twins and never played any console their entire life’s because their parents said it was for “boys”

Anime Fan 607 I think it was the start of a trend, the Teen Titans Go trend of “LOL SO RANDOMS” to be exact.
When the idiots in charge of CN decided to remove reruns of old shows from the programming block (and refused to release the old shows on dvd for years) they effectively told their now older audience to screw off. Add to that the annoying quality of their new shows and it just didn’t have the same spark, save for The Clone Wars, which unfortunately only aired on Friday nights.
2008-2009 was without a doubt the worst year for CN programming. We had a few gems, Chowder being one of them. But Flapjack just looked ugly and wasn’t really funny, at least in my opinion.

A bit off topic but, for some odd reason, Eustace's quote "stupid dog, you made me look bad!" always stuck out. Maybe because it was said so often. Well, I pulled a Eustace. When my dog passed away, I was a bit of a wreck. Anytime I got really emotional about it, I'd say "Stupid dog." As time went on, it became "stupid dog, you made me cry." I do not at all think she is a stupid dog, quite the contrary. I just have a strange way of grieving. Sorry, felt the need to share that.

But the one episode I will not forget is Perfect. Despite its horrible dream sequences, you can do anything even though you don’t have to always be perfect. As the barracuda said to Courage, that is a strong message to teach kids and adults you can do anything you desire.

I think the only thing that caused Courage to fall was when CN started giving away the plots in their "Previews"
Thing is, Courage episodes worked best, and I think I'm not the only one who thinks this, if you go in not knowing what happened, At that point, you were experiencing the whole episode in much the same way as Courage was: Namely not knowing what hes gotta do to save Muriel (and possibly Eustice if he has time). Not saying that this made repeat viewings bad, just saying that going in blind was the best way to watch the episodes as they air.
CN started giving away half the damn story, and with Courage relying on its minimalist goings on (You had the monster/villain and their intended plot, and thats kind of it.) giving away anything kind of gave away everything.

Honestly, one of the things I love about the Courage the Cowardly Dog show is how it never relies on gore to scare people, which I think is too oversaturated in horror media, and makes people more disgusted by horror than scared.

They had a mini episode where the characters were dissolved away in a black room until they were just eyeballs and they didn't even realize, to make fun of the trope of seeing only a cartoon character's eyes in the dark. There was also an episode about a woman who wanted to make perfume out of a live baby whale or something. My brain took those concepts and ran with them.

Courage has such a special place in my heart - as a schizophrenic, I've always seen it that way. That's why Muriel never seems to know what's going on, not only because she's an old woman but because there really is nothing. But the show treats it as a real threat and we see it through Courage's eyes, and that feels amazing because that IS how it feels to go through this kind of thing, and see things that others don't understand or can't see. It's so very real to the audience and Courage, and is scary and unsettling and everything and that is exactly how schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders feel. But when you're witnessing it from the eyes of people who don't have it, they don't see any of what you see, what Courage sees.
I don't think I explained that very well and I am sorry for that, but really - look at this from a schizophrenia angle and you might get what I mean!
Edit: also on the schizophrenia thing, when Muriel does react to something, she reacts much differently than Courage. That's because schizophrenia can often cause you to perceive things very differently to reality. The spider from Cats' Motel was just a normal spider that was dangling in front of her and scared her, but to Courage, it was huge and threatening her.
Another Edit: a symptom of schizophrenia is disorganised thoughts and speech, which goes along perfectly with the way Courage 'speaks'.

    • @testerwulf3357
      @testerwulf3357 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

I always believed it was a take of schizophrenia or at the least to show the world from a dogs view..dogs are always barking at nothing or harmful things like leaves so courage is showing that your dog is seeing fowl beasts you never could even if they're not real they're very real to your pets. A lot of people doubt this but I'll always hold onto it!

That's a very interesting interpretation I'm sorry to hear that you go through these things. Alot of people never understand what a person goes through and assumes the worst and I hate that or make things sound so easy but in reality it actually isn't. I may never understand but by the interpretation of the show that you made shows that you are a very strong person don't let others get you down. ☺️💖

Also theres the fact that they are too elderly to be scared and there are times where they get scared the SAME way Courage gets scared, this should debunk the fan theory.
But hey where trying to see the show in squisoprenic's POV right?

This show was a huge part of my childhood. Growing up, I couldn't deal with horror. Some of my favorite shows that dealt with it would always scare me and cause issues which got my mom telling me to stop watching them because of it. However, this show never scared me, even with the extremely unsettling characters and plots. In a way, it taught me to laugh at horror which caused me to fall in love with the horror genre. I'll watch a scary movie with friends and while they're freaking out(one of my friends was terrified of dolls for a good while after Anabelle: Creation), I'm sitting and laughing, having a good time. Sure, I get jumped by cheap jumpscares but I always laugh them off. I honestly attribute all that to this masterpiece. Some of them taught really good lessons, like "Perfect" which I've used to love the things I do even when they don't meet my expectations or the expectations of others. It's a shame there isn't more of Courage, but what there is is deeply loved by many.

You complained about the Dr. Zalost episode being too "convinient" and not making sense at times when it's a cartoon about a pink dog saving his owners from all kinds of creatures and monsters. You just chose to be nitpicky about that one specific episode for some reason. That episode is one of the best out of the whole series and was executed fantastically. Every episode will be "convenient" and not make sense if you choose to pick it apart in the way you did. Other than that I very much enjoyed this video on one of the cartoons that defined my childhood.

I know for sure that they released the episodes on VHS back in the day; hopefully they got a DVD release too. It's a great showcase of experimental animation and a few other unusual shorts (there's one called "Soap Opera," a melodrama in which the characters are real bars of soap - it's so funny! "Stick Figure Theatre" is great too).😺

There is a theory of the show that I like. I don't remember the full details but it goes: courage is the way he is because he's such a scaredy cat that it seems like he's on the middle of nowhere because courage is so scared he's made it up in his mind that nothing exists outside and all those strange people that come by are just normal people, just he's so afraid they come off as weirdos. Basically he's so scared that the way we see the show is from courage's perspective sprouting from his imagination. And from hustes(spelling?) Abuse.
Sorry for the poor explanation I dont remeber too much of the details
