Man there are so many great episodes of this show. Two that come to mind personally are the "perfect" episode and The Mask. I feel like the perfect episode is iconic if just for that horrifying nightmare _thing_ Courage sees. And of course The Mask for covering something as intense as domestic violence.
The Tower of Dr. Zalost may not be the most iconic, but it is my favorite episode hands down. So much symbolism and beauty, especially with the music and imagery.
This show would scare me a lot as a kid. But I’d try to keep watching, because I was worried for Courage and wanted to make sure he was okay. I hated how scary it was, but really liked Courage.
Courage the Cowardly Dog & Sam & Max Freelance Police are two shows I didn't care for as a kid, but watched because there was nothing better on in that time slot, that I grew to love as an adult.
There are so many great episodes of this show. If I had to pick a Top 10, it'd be these: #1) The Mask #2) Perfect #3) Freaky Fred #4) King Ramses' Curse #5) The Demon In The Mattress #6) The Great Fusilli #7) Windmill Vandals #8) Everyone Wants To Direct #9) Heads Of Beef #10) Revenge Of The Chicken From Outer Space
I think the harvest moon episode deserved a spot in here. A lot of people I know who watched the show always remember that eerie episode with the CGI moon head with black-rimmed eyes.
They might not have been overly iconic, but Perfect episode always got to me, as well as the one with the space squids, and of course the episode where Muriel finds Courage as an abandoned puppy. The bit where she names him because he’s out in the alley all alone, proves that despite being cowardly, Courage very much lives up to his name.
At the time I was arachnophobic but they didn't bother me in the slightest. Nowadays I no longer have arachnophobia having cured myself entirely of it.
That beat that comes on everytime katz makes his presence is awesome 🤣🤣🤣...me and my cousin would make this sound everytime we heard it. Its funny how some cartoon characters have their own music 😆
My favorite episodes would have to be Muriel being three and a half years old and Fred being "Naughty". But despite the whole show, I love how Muriel shows her love for Courage and how she first got him.
Great list...some episodes that maybe aren't talked about as much, but that I personally find iconic/memorable are: "Human Habitrail" "The Great Fusili," and "The Mask." The one with Fusili always creeped me out so much as a kid...especially when Courage opens the closet to find all the humanlike puppets just hanging there. I have no clue why, but I also always think about that scene at the end of the gerbil episode in which Courage is floating away down the river to escape, and there's this unexpectedly beautiful opera music playing lol. "The Mask" has my favorite storyline of any Courage episode. Also, the episode with the space squids (Last of the Starmakers, I think) is one of my favorites.
This show was one of the best ever made and I have to give particularly special mention to Heads of Beef due to the ending. It's not unusual for the show to cover particularly grisly subject matter and that episode in particular was one of the more memorable ones for one of the show's biggest messages being, "Sometimes, things aren't as scary as they may seem." It's one of the big reasons the show was successful is because problems weren't just solved the same way every time. Sometimes Courage managed to get the better of his foes. Sometimes he befriended them. And sometimes there was never actually a threat in the first place. You never were 100% sure how each episode was going to end because Courage could have gone with just about any direction for any of its episodes. That's part of what made this dark show so gripping.
I can think of 4 episodes that definitely deserve a chance to be at the head of the conversation. The Mask, Magic Tree of Nowhere, Tower of Dr. Zalost, and Perfect all are highly worthy of being in the Top 5. Night of the Weremole and The House of Discontent are also great honorable mentions
I also felt the same way with the King Ramses one feeling so long despite being just 11 minutes long. This mentioned episode and the Windmill Horsemen were the longest for me because they were so terrifying I kept waiting when would they finally stop.
First off, THANK YOU! For not getting "It's Doc. Gerbil's World" stuck in my head, lol. I thought sure that episode would make this list. Second, I couldn't agree more with your #1 on #2 picks. My husband and I often reference Fred with the way he says "Naughty". And King Ramsey's"Return the Slab or suffer my curse" endeared this series to my whole family(Mom, Dad, me, and my brother) when it aired. Ustes and Mirriel reminded my parents of my dad's father and my mom's grandmother(both of whom passed away the same week of my junior year of high school) and this episode earned this series the nickname "The Selma and Clyde Show" in our home. My brother and I LOVED the "King Ramseys Demonic Arts" song riff in this episode and I couldn't help but notice how Ramsey's himself looked a lot like that one character in TV commercials during the Beatljuice cartoon. Great list!
Everything you said about King Ramses’ Curse is 100% accurate. I loved Courage so much growing up and wanted to watch every episode that came on. This one in particular scared the absolute crap out of me… I still watched it every time it came on, I just had to watch from behind the couch lol. It was my favourite episode because it scared me so much.
I would definitely put the "Courage in the Big Stinkin City” episode on this list solely because of the scary violin girl part. One of the most iconic parts in the show.
Shirley was legit my favorite character in Courage. Besides Courage himself but she really got me into curses and things like that when i was a kid especially after the Episode Swindling Wind. However my favorite villain was Cajun Fox. Being from Louisiana myself he really struck home to me. This show holds so many memories and of a time i wish i could go back to.
“The human habitrail” I’ll also always remember, mainly for that like strangely intense chase scene in the water which gave me intense anxiety as a child
I think the episode with the weremole was really good. Super scary the way it comes out of the ground, ate the rabbit and mangled Courage’s bunny suit. And super funny when Eustace was playing whack a mole with Muriel!
Part of the reason I got into horror was due to "Courage." Hands down my favorite still though is King Ramses (as is a lot of fans). I also love The Snowman Cometh.
This was for kids lmao... I remember being so so little and loving this show but being scared. All of the CN shows of this era were incredible and enthralling
The Katz Motel episode caused my arachnophobia when I was three years old, I got over my fear a bit when I was seventeen but I can still be wary of spiders. Very creepy episode but not the scariest, King Ramsey on the other hand gave me nightmares.
I 1,000% agree with #1. You can't think of Courage without Ramases being the very first episode to pop in your head. But one episode I wish people would talk about is the puppeteer one, "The Great Fusilli". The ending to that one where Courage's owners both become marionette puppets, that Courage has to operate, always made me feel uncomfortably sad and freaked out as a kid. The places your mind goes with that ending are a real rabbit hole morbid-ness. Are they dead, and Courage is playing with corpses? Are they alive forever trapped in wooden puppet bodies? It's just plain creepy, and no one ever talks about it.
I agree King Ramses is definitely the most frightening episodes and most iconic. I also really love the episode Courage in the Big Stinkin City. With the hilarious roach and the dreadful violin girl scared me a ton as a child lol
I was hoping for the first episode with Le Quack because it’s not a scary episode but really focuses on the raw humor of the series. The part that sells me is the response by the police and the part where Courage blows up Le Quack in mid jump, him still in the air, all charred and his response is “How annoying.”
King Ramses' Curse is THE courage the cowardly dog episode I always remember. All these years and I occasionally remember the phrase "return the slab" though tbh I remember it sounding more menacing, it was one of those episodes that somewhat disturbed me as a kid...
One I always remember was the episode where Muriel decides to stop talking and courage goes to Shirley the medium for help getting her to speak again. So, the medium summons a giant monster to destroy their family and can only be stopped be the sound of Muriel’s voice.
For me it was alright. A good Scooby-Doo movie but it was kinda mediocre as a courage movie. They didn't really seem to know how to write him as well as they did Scooby and he's out of character some times.
Return the slab, or suffer my curse! That line is so iconic because of how creepy and calm the delivery is along with the music. The record player curse is hilarious 😆 I wonder if there’s a full version of it!
Hey bro great video! Courage the cowardly dog holds a very special place in my heart. It's what believe it or not provided me a sense of solace while I was going through foster care as a child. The show taught me that no matter what may fear us if we can dig deep down and find our courage than we can overcome any obstacle we may face in life.
I think that both "chickens from space" episodes are top 5, i liked that he could tell a story with very few words in the first episode, funny how the first episode ever made is the most memorable to me.
The Clutching Foot episode was my mom's favorite. Back in the very early 2000s I was raising my nephew and Courage was one of his favorite shows. I think we watched every single episode and this episode was my mom's favorite. My personal favorite was the Ramses episode...return the slab!
My top 10:1.Courage's enemies against him in dodgeball,2.Freaky Fred,3.Randy The Robot,4.The Magical Tree Of Nowhere,5.The Dragon Who Couldn't Fly,6.Le Quack as a psychiatrist,7.Were-Mole,8.The Valkyries And The Trolls,9.Cajun Fox,10.Revenge Of The Chicken From Outer Space.
Two episodes come to mind personally, "Perfect", and then the episode where there's a bunny who is in an abusive relationship with her dog boyfriend, and her cat bestfriend is trying to save her, and then at the end they run off together on a train, very obviously lesbians and being MUCH happier together. I don't remember it's name, but I remember the episode in general
A favorite moment was in "Courage in The Big Stinkin' City" (loooove that title) when Courage, while exploring the spooky red halls and stairwells, discovers the little girl in one of the apartments. Holy moly, that was awesome. Shades of Large Marge from "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure". Another fine aspect of this series was the amazing color palette they used, and many of the background designs. Sublime and strange and memorable.
I loved courage as a kid and still do. I honestly expected perfect or the slab to be on this list since everyone says one of those 2 episodes caused them nightmares. As a kid, they didn't scare me but one episode that did was night of the weremole. That creature scared me so much and I had nightmares about it grabbing me through the bed and then dragging me down and tearing me to shreds. I re-watched that episode and I noticed I missed all of the jokes there. Like the wack-a-mole part. Or when the doctor tells murel that there's nothing to worry about when her hand is massive. I'm still kinda scared of it as an adult but. This episode will still be remembered by me along with the space squids and the one with the man eating vegetables.
Well made list guy, I don't know if I could've done it. I was hoping to see the Bunny and Kitty episode and the one with the space squid, but it's your list and King Ramsey is easily the antagonist we think of when this show comes to mind.
Before I watch, here are quotes from the episodes I remember most (since I remember quotes more than show titles) 10) Where's your hat? Little boy needs his hat. 9) It's Doc Gerbil's World! 8) NAAAUGHTY 7) ...or the fat lady gets it! 6) We're duck brothers. We don't lay eggs! 5) Where's me mallet! 4) (Creepy mermaid lady beckoning Eustice to his death.) 3) You see these bones? You wanna know what made these bones? You don't wanna know what made these bones. 2) How... Now... Brown... Cow... 1) RETUUURN THE SLAAAAB!!!
I love Courage. I grew up watching this show. The episodes that are most iconic for me are the Demon in the Mattress and The Mask. I love both of these episodes and the stories in the episodes were great.
I didn’t appreciate how good TV was when I was a kid…like I loved all those shows on Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon, but I just didn’t appreciate it at the time. 1999 to 2002 was ages 6-9 for me. So the transition from being a little guy, barely not a toddler anymore to being a proper kid with actual interests and opinions. I miss those times.
You are a genius- or maybe I think this because we think alike. Lol! I watched Courage with my granddaughter every weekend when she was 8. She absolutely loved the mix of horror and snark.(She's absurdly intellegent and as an only child, not really childlike in the typical way.) Your list is perfection. I love "The Gods Must Be Goosey," "Queen of the Black Puddle," "King Ramses Curse," "Remembrance of Courage Past," and "A Night at the Katz Motel." These are just a few of my favorite episodes as well as your list. I think I might have duplicated a couple, I'm sorry if I did ☺️
well it had it's terrifying moments to be sure, but it was also quite funny, whether it be when he's trying to warn his owners, laugh at his agony or trying to "Ask Jarvis" when he needs info.
Essentially this is a comedy series. The show was often packed full of comedy: slapstick and pratfalls, the sarcastic computer, Eustace's incredible greed, etc. It *had* to have humor to soften all the frightful creatures and situations. You could not have had the Courage show with just monsters and evil beings; parents would not stand for it.
I remember when I was young King Ramsay's Curce terrified me but I would still willingly watch it...it is the most iconic episode ever and I agree with everyone on this list maybe not in the same order but the number 1 and 2 spots I do 100%agree with
If I had to pick 3 CtCD villains that are the most disturbing to me and why, they'd be the following: 3. Fred from Freaky Fred: If you really pay attention to what Fred is saying, they really do seem like a PG version of a p*dophile. 2. King Ramses from King Ramses' Curse: Absolutely terrified my as a kid, just their look and the way they sound, and that they are literally murderous. 1: Mad Dog from The Mask: Like Fred, their design isn't really scary, but it's the concept. I put Mad Dog as the most disturbing CtCD villain solely because of their concept. It's hinted that they literally keep abusing their girlfriend (Bunny,) who clearly doesn't like him, to keep the relationship together. Just because of it being the most realistic episode, it is this high. Luckily, Bunny escapes and maybe, probably becomes Kitty's (another character in the episode) girlfriend in a hinted at gay relationship, which I like to see in kids shows.
After just discovering your channel like 2 weeks ago, mostly of your later videos, I am now newly subscribed and starting to binge your channel from the start. I LOVE doing this when discovering a new channel (more so when they're relatively newer as they have less videos lol). I'm excited to see this from the start! See you later in a couple of days. lol
Dose anybody else remember that one episode where murial gets bit by the demon mole in her garden that and freaky Fred are what I automatically think of when I hear courage the cowardly dog
Awesome video dude! My top ten: 10. Courage in the Big Stinkin' City 9. The Mask 8. Pilot episode 7. The one with the tornado 6. Doc Gerbil (can't remember the full title) 5. Perfect 4. The Clutching Foot 3. Demon in the Mattress 2. Freaky Fred 1. King Ramses' Curse
Scariest, iconic episodes to me in no particular order: Night of the Weremole- Weremole Muriel chase was suspenseful Head of Beef- the man-eater implications The Demon in the Mattress- all round scare to scare King Ramses Curse- King Ramses had me genuinely tucked in blanket terrified Courage in the Big Stinkin' City- the screaming crazy girl scared the shit out of me The Revenge of Chicken from Outer Space- headless chickens head-popping slideshow made me go YI-IKES and headless Eustace gave me unexpected scare at the end Car Broke, Phone Yes- another alien episode with scary overtones Hot-head- Eustace exploding frustration had me in suspense
The most disturbing one is The Great Fuselli especially the end where Courage plays with the dead bodies of Muriel and Eustace to make it feel they are still alive.
I'll say that the episode "a night at katz motel" was my favorite although it scared the life out of me when I was a teen and I would actually try to squeeze behind my dad on the couch. I was a very skittish kiddo back then and I'm still a skittish guy now. Nowadays I hide behind my partner when scared. Thankfully he thinks its cute.
Awesome list man some really good ones. But you didnt include my favourite The Hunchback of Nowhere, And another criminally underrated Courage episode is Windmill Vandals that episode scared the piss out of me.
The one I always remember when Muriel turns into a child. "Hi I'm Muriel. I'm only three and a half years old. Who're you?" And "More cheese, less noodle."
Who can forget (during the foot episode) when courage dumps the ice on the lava, the ice runs away, and courage says “I don’t know why I thought that would work”
There were so many moments in this show that caused me to have to rewatch these things to be sure I actually just saw what I thought I saw. My favorite episode is when the zombie actor and director come out of the ground at the farm to shoot a movie. I think one of them is a play on Quinton Tarantino or something like that.
Man I'm completely baffled that episode "The Tower of Dr. Zalos" didn't make your top list. That & 'Freaky Fred' is my top 2 outstanding episodes. Behind those are "Hothead", "Night of the Weremole", "The Hunchback from Nowhere", and finally, any episode starring 'KATZ" and or 'Dr. Le Quack".
This video was so good. I listen to all of it without even knowing it!
Thank you SO MUCH! I'm glad you enjoyed it.

That fetus thing in Courage's nightmare scared the absolute shit out of me as a kid!! Couldn't sleep xd
@@randomuser8660 id only seen that episode recently but tbh i found the way he just pops up without waning hilarious more than scary
My favorite part of perfect was the bathtub barracuda
I will never forget how The Mask episode made me feel. I think I cried at the end when it had a happy ending!
I feel bad for the next sucker who steals the slab; he'll have to deal with Eustace's ghost.
"Return the slab or I'm gettin' me mallet!"
“Return the slab you stupid dog!!”
Not me. I'd just kick him in the dishpan, hoo hoo hoo!

I always remember saying that
My favorite from this episode is the second plague. Such a catchy tune.😂
🎼King Raaaaamses....
"What's your offer?!" Took me out when i watched it for the first time as an adult. Eustace was unhinged 😂

"Last of the Starmakers" was as beautiful as it was heartbreaking. To this day, still one of my favorites
There are so many great episodes of this show.

#1) The Mask

#5) The Demon In The Mattress
#6) The Great Fusilli
#7) Windmill Vandals

I think the harvest moon episode deserved a spot in here. A lot of people I know who watched the show always remember that eerie episode with the CGI moon head with black-rimmed eyes.

The Katz episode is part of the reason for my arachnophobia.

I think that both "chickens from space" episodes are top 5, i liked that he could tell a story with very few words in the first episode, funny how the first episode ever made is the most memorable to me.
i was always more afraid of the stitch sisters more than anything
The Clutching Foot episode was my mom's favorite. Back in the very early 2000s I was raising my nephew and Courage was one of his favorite shows. I think we watched every single episode and this episode was my mom's favorite. My personal favorite was the Ramses episode...return the slab!
My favorite line from Cajun Granny Stew: “That dog is becoming a real pain in my- (sinks into the water).”
That episode about abusive relationships is called The Mask
Yep it’s the mask
"Where's the slab?" scared the shit out of me, still creeps me out
When I was a kid I thought getting run over by a steam roller would be a bigger problem than it actually is
Just discovered your channel I’m lovin it! My fav is Freaky Fred and the creepy music accompanying Fred was just the best.
One of my favourite episodes was the space squid. The one that turns to flowers at the end.
That made me cry
The music in that episode is truly beautiful it’s easily a top tier episode
i loved Courage The Cowardly Dog so much that when it ended, i got incredibly upset. as truly great Cartoons arent born every day.
I can’t believe you didn’t touch “It’s a gerbil’s world, it’s a gerbils world” hahaha
King Ramsey looks so uncaney in a 2D would
King Ramsey's curse is also the first one that comes to my mind first to. It's my number 1 favorite episode. Then it's freaky Fred takes 2nd place.
Well made list guy, I don't know if I could've done it. I was hoping to see the Bunny and Kitty episode and the one with the space squid, but it's your list and King Ramsey is easily the antagonist we think of when this show comes to mind.
An episode i really think always gets overlooked is The Windmill Vandals.
Heads of Beef is one of those episodes we see Eustence in a nice mood...also...i love the pig couple.
The pig couple were surprisingly so wholesome!
@marymartin2154 ironically they have a better marriage then Eustence and Muriel
Before I watch, here are quotes from the episodes I remember most (since I remember quotes more than show titles)
10) Where's your hat? Little boy needs his hat.
9) It's Doc Gerbil's World!
8) NAAAUGHTY
7) ...or the fat lady gets it!
6) We're duck brothers. We don't lay eggs!
5) Where's me mallet!
4) (Creepy mermaid lady beckoning Eustice to his death.)
3) You see these bones? You wanna know what made these bones? You don't wanna know what made these bones.
2) How... Now... Brown... Cow...
1) RETUUURN THE SLAAAAB!!!
I love Courage. I grew up watching this show. The episodes that are most iconic for me are the Demon in the Mattress and The Mask. I love both of these episodes and the stories in the episodes were great.
That mattress makes a cameo in the new crossover movie with Scooby-Doo, officially titled Straight Outta Nowhere...☺️😁
Love this show so much so happy that they are bringing it back soon
My personal favorite episode is the Rose Tree. I always cry even as an adult when the tree is cut down...
That is a personal fave of mine too
yo man i really love your videos man! i just love that you discuss the whole episodes! and its fucking awesome! please keep em coming brotha!
What month were you born?
You are a genius- or maybe I think this because we think alike. Lol! I watched Courage with my granddaughter every weekend when she was 8. She absolutely loved the mix of horror and snark.(She's absurdly intellegent and as an only child, not really childlike in the typical way.) Your list is perfection. I love "The Gods Must Be Goosey," "Queen of the Black Puddle," "King Ramses Curse," "Remembrance of Courage Past," and "A Night at the Katz Motel." These are just a few of my favorite episodes as well as your list. I think I might have duplicated a couple, I'm sorry if I did ☺️
The fact that someone made A game based on king ramses curse makes it that more iconic and why it's true that it deserves to be number 1
Not going to lie *this* video just earned you a new subscriber this list is *SPOT ON* really entertaining
King Ramses terrified me as a kid but now it’s my favorite episode
I never thought someone would describe Courage the Cowardly Dog as ‘Funny’ or any word that wasn’t terrifying.
well it had it's terrifying moments to be sure, but it was also quite funny, whether it be when he's trying to warn his owners, laugh at his agony or trying to "Ask Jarvis" when he needs info.
@@UltimateGamerCC Oh my god, I forgot about Jarvis
My all time favorite will always be "the shadow of courage" great video!
I remember when I was young King Ramsay's Curce terrified me but I would still willingly watch it...it is the most iconic episode ever and I agree with everyone on this list maybe not in the same order but the number 1 and 2 spots I do 100%agree with
The puddle episode is my most memorable one.
If I had to pick 3 CtCD villains that are the most disturbing to me and why, they'd be the following:
Luckily, Bunny escapes and maybe, probably becomes Kitty's (another character in the episode) girlfriend in a hinted at gay relationship, which I like to see in kids shows.
thanks for making these style videos ! feels good to go back in time yahmean
Cajun granny stew is literally my second favorite episode. It was a breath of fresh air from the regular episodes. Third. Little mureal
What’s your fave episode just curious
amazing work!! My new favorite TH-camr!! Keep up the good work❤️❤️
My favorite is the Queen of the black puddle , and freaky fred is really creepy. I also agree that king ramsey's episode is the most iconic episode
all 3 are Bill Marsilii episodes, it couldn't be a coincidence. Windmill Vandals and Squilt Club are others by him.
Same 😊
Oh my goodness Great List of Episode Moments
After just discovering your channel like 2 weeks ago, mostly of your later videos, I am now newly subscribed and starting to binge your channel from the start. I LOVE doing this when discovering a new channel (more so when they're relatively newer as they have less videos lol). I'm excited to see this from the start! See you later in a couple of days. lol
Dose anybody else remember that one episode where murial gets bit by the demon mole in her garden that and freaky Fred are what I automatically think of when I hear courage the cowardly dog
Awesome video dude!
My top ten:
10. Courage in the Big Stinkin' City
9. The Mask
8. Pilot episode
7. The one with the tornado
6. Doc Gerbil (can't remember the full title)
5. Perfect
4. The Clutching Foot
3. Demon in the Mattress
2. Freaky Fred
1. King Ramses' Curse
Scariest, iconic episodes to me in no particular order:
Night of the Weremole- Weremole Muriel chase was suspenseful
Head of Beef- the man-eater implications
The Demon in the Mattress- all round scare to scare
King Ramses Curse- King Ramses had me genuinely tucked in blanket terrified
Courage in the Big Stinkin' City- the screaming crazy girl scared the shit out of me
The Revenge of Chicken from Outer Space- headless chickens head-popping slideshow made me go YI-IKES and headless Eustace gave me unexpected scare at the end
Car Broke, Phone Yes- another alien episode with scary overtones
Hot-head- Eustace exploding frustration had me in suspense
The most disturbing one is The Great Fuselli especially the end where Courage plays with the dead bodies of Muriel and Eustace to make it feel they are still alive.
My favorite episode was definitely king ramses curse,I loved how scary it was
I'll say that the episode "a night at katz motel" was my favorite although it scared the life out of me when I was a teen and I would actually try to squeeze behind my dad on the couch. I was a very skittish kiddo back then and I'm still a skittish guy now. Nowadays I hide behind my partner when scared. Thankfully he thinks its cute.
Who is your partner? 😮
Keep up the great work, Shawn
Man I'm completely baffled that episode "The Tower of Dr. Zalos" didn't make your top list. That & 'Freaky Fred' is my top 2 outstanding episodes. Behind those are "Hothead", "Night of the Weremole", "The Hunchback from Nowhere", and finally, any episode starring 'KATZ" and or 'Dr. Le Quack".
King Ramsea definitely is the most iconic it scared me as a kid as well im 24 now and I still remember it😭😭😭
It was pretty werid. It was how he was "3d"
