    My dually is a 2017 and Ive had not one single issue with this truck. It has ran 100% perfectly for 6 years. Dealer sent me a letter about some flash update like 2 months ago. I threw it in the trash. Not doing it.

    Interested in some feed back:
    Some history: my dealers lead diesel tech is also a good friend. Quick Lube does NOT do my service. He does - so I know things aren't messed with and done right. 2021 6.7.
    1st: had this recall done about a month ago. Zero complaints. Hard shifts are gone.
    Following the recall I proceeded to put 1300 miles on my truck the following week towing our travel trailer. Smooth as butter shifting in all ways.
    I might be crazy but feel like it has better MPG and power.
    Here's the fun part: I had/have DPF filter % activated via forscan, auto regen control activated, and a few fun things like bambi mode, etc. Following the reprogram I can no longer turn off auto regen. I did so only to have some control if I was close to regen but not going to get a full regen done before stopping. I also noticed with DPF % on that it would sporadically regen at 30% full one time and 60% full another time, etc... no consistency. With the auto regen off I would wait till 90% to turn it on and let it regen.
    After the reprogram i notice it goes to 100% before regen. It went to 100% twice now before regen so I'd consider it the norm.
    Soo.. the reprogram didn't turn off my ability to see DPF% or take away the auto regen on/off screen: but I can't turn it off now.
    More interesting is this:
    A few days into our camping trip we did some night driving and i realized my camper lights did not come on with my auto lights when they activated. In fact I had no running lights. Fuse was blown. (fuse 10, 30amp micro).
    Long long story short: i checked everything. I'll spare you the details.
    In the end: i determined that after the recall my parking lights came on with my DRLs. Never did before. I even looked at pictures of a camping trip the week prior to service of us crossing an old wooden bridge taken by my BIL in front of me and I had DRL's but no marker/parking lights.
    I went into Forscan and turned off DRL w/ Parking light option... and bam(!!) no more blowing my fuse.
    So the program changed some stuff within the truck.
    So I'd be interested if folks have noticed their parking/marker lights on when in gear now but not before.
    And
    I also noticed while in forscan that things like "headlights" showed halogen even though I have LED's. Showed Auxilary Cab Heater disabled - even though my truck has it (live in alaska).
    Would/did other things get switched on or off that need to be returned to "normal?"
    Or do those things show "disabled", like aux heater, simply because they are off at the moment. Does headlights showing halogen and not LED matter?
    There were a few other options I felt were wrong but didn't mess with them because I don't know enough.
    OH: eco mode: disabled... green leaf comes on when selected - but is it doing anything?
    anyway. I liked and subscribed. look forward to your knowledge.
    2021 F350 12,400GVWR 6.7 - 22 hwy, 13 hauling 8K# TT... super happy.

    • @alaskaaccurate466
      @alaskaaccurate466 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd never seen that consistency. Turned on DPF% screen and saw that it regen sporadicaly at different levels of full between 30 sometimes and 70 others. enabled auto regen on/off toggle and would leave it off till 100. Now after this reboot its going to 100% itself.

    I'm going to pop back in and report my findings are now that I've had the truck with this new update for a couple days the transmission shifting is still what I feel from initial boss tremendously improved in every aspect. The other thing I noticed it seems like the throttle is much more responsive everywhere through the powerband most noticeable right off of idle and and slow speed driving.

    I have 22 f250 6.7 liter it was downshifting hard from 3rd to 2nd to 1st. Had the TCM software update done, I live in Tx, drove it up to Michigan the next day total difference, night and day. Feels like a different truck smooth shifting. Also, I’ve been adding the Hot Shot fuel additive to each fill up, and my regens are not as often as before. I was having them about every week now it’s down to every month or 2. Now I’ve been in and out of shop for 2 of the 4 TPMS sensors failing, and the radio module sucks to. Static In system when adjusting fan for A/C up and down, coming thru speakers.

    Been hanging on to this 22E04 letter since July 2023 for my 2022 F250. These comments from guys who have done it and regretted are pretty interesting. Glad I haven’t done it but not sure if they’re referring to the 22E07 recall that changed engine idle or the 22E04 recall that seems to be more about NOx sensor preheat. Either way, if I were to save as-builts of the PCM and TCM with FORscan, couldn’t I revert back if I had it done and decided it sucks?

  • @BarnStangz
    @BarnStangz ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Thanks for the explanation sir! It's good to break it down for folks, so they understand what is going on with all the modules on board.
    My thing, coming from an IT background, is, we almost NEVER do firmware updates on stuff unless it's running weird or there are some kinds of compatibility issues with new hardware we're trying to install. I've seen SO many times, where people have upgraded firmware (or a BIOS) on their servers or controllers only to have MORE issues. For me, my truck has been running flawlessly and in Eco mode I see almost 20mpg. It shifts good and just works well, so I'm not going to mess with it. I guess part of me is thinking that there is some backdoor programming going on that people are never going to know about... Just my $0.02.
    Appreciate you bro!

      Fellow IT person here, there are just certain things you don’t do unless it’s properly lab tested and sometimes you just don’t do. Coming from the early days of the 6.0 Powerstroke, MANY people got duped coming into the dealer for the “Free Oil Change” only to leave the dealer with less power and fuel economy than they came with. There is always some secret sauce they put in that they don’t tell you. It seems like this helps more than anything, but I’ll wait to hear what the others have to say.

    I just picked my 22 up from having this update done my drive home was very short only three miles so of course it's hard to say exactly how things are going to act as it gets a few more miles and everything learns my driving again. But the quick impression the shifts on the transmission are far smoother than they ever were previously. And I noticed one of the ways I tested something was by going extremely slow on acceleration from the stoplight so the truck had to shift into second. And that's where it was even more noticeable how much smoother the shifts are now. Will be interesting to see how acts for the next week and what other Impressions I may have of this update.

    My 2020 f450 runs much better after doing this. Gear shifts are more what I want it to do and does not rev as high anymore. My fuel milegage even increased by about 1mpg due to the changed shifting pattern. Seems to be using low end torque more than the high rpm hp from before the update. The truck is totally different from before, but much better. Accelleration from a stop is awesome now.

    That's one thing I despise about doing flash recalls, some take forever to do and warranty pays .2 to .6 for them. We had one a few years ago where the files were uncompressed and would take up to 3 hours to do it. Warranty paid I think 3.3 for it. Then they updated it and now only pay like .5.

They’re replacing the long block, injectors, main engine wiring harness and turbos. Been at the dealership since the last week of February and they are telling me they can’t even get a new turbo until the middle of April. Does this affect the regen ? You mentioned @ 375 miles +/-. My 2021 seems to regen at no set mileage schedule. Most of my "around town" trips are routinely average less than 10 miles, what has my curiosity is, I will check the def gauge, and it seems to stay steady for long periods, sometimes 1500 to 2000 or more miles, indicating that the truck does not regen. but if I drive down to San Diego from where I live in Utah, drive around maybe 1200 / 1400 miles, it will regen 3 or 4 times. Most recent was in October of 2022, when I went to San Diego, and experienced several regen cycles. Upon returning home, I "topped" the def, and it fluctuated between 6000 & 6500 miles of def, and did not drop until June 2023 on my next trip to San Diego, will this update address this "alleged" issue, or is what I am experiencing normal ?
