- If you’re a big man, you need a big truck, and if you’ve been crowned the world's strongest man 4 times, you need a one-of-a-kind beast of a vehicle. TH-camr and professional strongman Brian Shaw (@SHAWSTRENGTH), recently bought his dream truck, a 2002 Ford Excursion with a 7.3 diesel engine, but we couldn't let him drive it around in the thin air of Colorado without giving it every opportunity to breathe freely and get horsepower to the wheels. Brian sent the truck to us in Azusa, CA for some strength training. Gale Banks and Brian Shaw are two titans constantly pursuing more power.

Most OEM manufacturers and aftermarket companies doesn't give this guy enough ratings for what he has done over the years. This guy sleep, walk and talks performance, you can hear it.
I got dumber trying to read that atrocity of a paragraph. Idiocracy is real. Go back to school! I have known people with down syndrome with better grammar and communication skills. smh..... Let me guess, public school in a blue state city?
You can tell he truly loves his job.
pretty sure GM recognizes what he does.
Gale is an American icon.. What an amazing life he's lead
WELL SAID AND YES HE IS
A national asset really
For sure.. I didn't even realize he had all of them defense contracts.. He's making american trucks faster.. And the border safer all at the same time..
The crossover i didnt know i needed.
Well we all knew it wasn't a murano lmao.
Shaw doesn’t understand one word that Gale says, lol, but he knows it means awesome things for his Excursion, and that’s all he needs to hear.
I just knew the military contact would prevent us from seeing the engine assembly room 😆
I do miss the killing a duramax dyno series. They never killed it.
Dude, right!? He said he keep building power until "the heads hit the ceiling or the crank hits the floor". I really wanted to know what the L5P could take. @@nobodynoone2500
We hope to return to that project one day once the dyno cell is freed up again.
6’7” pssshhhhh I’m 5’22”! But definitely not as strong as him, sadly.
Government doesn’t want anyone seeing all their deleted duramax’s 😐
Missed out not showing the driving reaction!
Idk, not then a startup exhaust note or anything… 😢
Shaw did a video on his channel
"You must be Brian"
No Gale, this is just another 6'8", 300+lb giant that could give some of your engines a run for their money.
Isn't he around 400 plus
@@rafmatt1607 in his latest video with his weight he measured at 375. He's lost quite a bit of weight since his strongman days
I use Gale’s videos to teach my HVAC apprenticeship students about air density, refrigerant enthalpy, the gas laws etc. They almost always think they won’t get it down in the beginning but after watching Gale explain the way he does with the graphics and parts right there, they are shocked how they understand. Thank you Mr Banks.
Would Gale be interested in doing some videos on how he stays so healthy? His diet, exercise plan, stress relief, life philosophy. Imagine if he showed his blood work, VO2 max and all his vitals and then explained them as he does with engines. He could get thousands of men healthy and mentally sharper. Gales mental cognition at his age is even more impressive than his unbelievable physical condition.
I know that this is private and a personal thing to ask but it would be a great help to humanity. The modern medical system is the equivalent of black smoke spewing with the throw drugs at the problem and just telling us we are all shot by 40.
Thanks Mr Banks for all you do. As a veteran, those 6.2 and 6.5 were death traps. You have saved lives.
That's a great idea actually.
I’ve driven a JLTV in the Marine Corps for a bit on my first deployment. You can just send it.
Pretty capable power plant compared to what that thing weighs for sure. Too bad the trucks rott once they become deadlined. Seems like the mechanics can't keep these trucks alive as long as the older trucks and Humvees
I'd kill to own the truck but I'd give it up in a heartbeat to meet Gale Banks and have the opportunity to walk around and talk with him. So much knowledge within that man. Great job!
2:08 it's crazy, I can't believe I only found out about Mr. Banks in the last few years... He's literally been making hot rods since before even my father was born
holyshyt hes like Shelbys long lost cuz amd that's saying alot
Gale Banks, he's the best, he's the man ❗️
G. Banks has been a long time inspiration to me. The man is an absolute legend when it comes to making power from and ICE engine.
Like , 200 horse retardation power , i.e. exhaust brake . The converter lockup and clutch tightening while engaged is pure genius .
It’s a lot of workaround to still
Not be as good as a manual trans.
I use to watch Worlds Strongest Man just to see Shaw go to work💪
My favorite engine guys and my favorite strongman. That’s awesome.
Banks is what true tuning is! He is a freaking legend would love to see them step a bit into the smaller displacement stuff as well! Beyond the data monster ect!
Mr. banks, you are a visionary automotive genius. Thank you for your research leading to the vast improvements in the diesel industry. You bring us stuff that we didn’t know we needed until you have proven that we need them because they make the industry better.
that little engine cover is badass
But engine covers do nothing but retain heat.
@@fastinradfordable plastic ones do because plastic insulates not dissipates heats like aluminum does. and it has breathing. just don’t question anything Gale Banks does to a diesel and you’ll be better off in life
Great video. Brian is such a friendly giant.
From 16:57 ish on for the next min or two were super enlightening for me. For one I thought cars kick out the tcc when you apply brakes to help deceleration but now I see that only builds heat 🤘🏻I also never thought of the clutches needing more line psi and being worked backwards. Like a diff is meant for strength forward, not backwards so much. Always learn lots from Gale. Last of the true hotrodders imo. I think big daddy is still around but not sure. Not a good comparison so wasn’t trying to do that ✌🏻
I remember the TA from the cover of a car magazine back in the 90's. That thing was incredible. Incredible speeds for a door-slammer.
The only thing Gale Banks lacks is marketing. I never knew he had so many products! Not just this video, but all of them. Love it!! He's the man!
Banks always impresses me, great video 👍😁
Amazing stuff, love Brian as well.
I will say that I miss your podcast, Speed School. Perfect way to make my day go by a little quicker at work and learn something new.
Gale Banks is the strongest man of the diesel world.
I wish we could get a whole series on the business history. Because I'm sure there's tons of stories from every product launch or how much of a pain in the ass making "the first" aftermarket turbo kits was. Cause it's easy to make something work on a couple cars...whole different game to make something for the general public to DIY.
This video just farther solidifies my LOVE for Gale Banks and Banks Power. Well done.
I wish Banks still made the kit for the old School GM 6.5 Turtle diesels. I had a 6.2 turboed with his kit on there back in the late 80's, and sold the kit off my blown up 97 CCLB 6.5 TD, I still own that truck, and wished I had a kit to bolt on to it. Its Stockish, with a big fuel upgrade and cooling upgrade, still a turtle, but tows our SXS and hauls the slide in pretty good with only 225hp
It would be a heart pounding experience to be in the same room with these 2 massive individuals. Both Legends in their field!
I love all the Banks stuff, including my 7.5l Stinger bundle on my '96 F250! Now, I'm just waiting for them to continue production of their Torque Tube headers.
YEAAA ✨👑💯 HE WENT WITH THE MAN GALE BANKS
Gale Banks is nothing short of an American badass. He has forgotten more about performance than all of those other bubba diesel channel bubbas ever knew. Awesome video and great work Mr. Banks.
I haven’t finished watching the video yet. I’m almost to the end and he set up the Buick grand national V6 turbo system worked really good too. This is six in a row.Jim from Kennerdell PA I have a 91.5 Dodge just had the engine rebuilt by D&jmachine in Cambridge, Ohio those guys do really nice work anyway you guys have a nice day thank you Gail for your devotion to excellence
A supercharged diesel is next level. I would never thought of that kind of combo. I bet that thing rips.
That's where the top mount superchargers come from. The Detroit Diesels needed them back in the day.
It’s literally 90+yo tech.
I would love to see this type of series continue. Donate a build to first responder/military...etc...
How fun! I'll tune in for more content like this.
Awesome to see how proud Mr Banks is of that C20
we finally got our 99 F250 with the 7.3 broke in at 260,000 miles. a few extra horses would be cool. been exclusively using it for towing our camper for the past 80,000 miles. 10mpg towing at 70-75 on the interstate.
Cool and crazy diesels. Awesome!!
Love it!
Nice to see how Banks makes their parts, looks like a nice place to work for 🇺🇸🇺🇸
Don't care for Fords but that Excursion looks badass. Thanks, Mr. Banks and Mr. Shaw!
We need this!
Just bought my first diesel pickup a couple months ago. Gonna buy a banks intercooler and ecotune from them.
Brians driving impressions would have been nice to see. Great video.
Great work!
Gale is the MAN!
I love the 7.3 excursions, this thing is perfect 🤌
Legends, both of them!
There is Gale Banks and then everyone else.
Would’ve been nice to hear the truck run 🤷🏼♂️
Gale Banks is the GOAT!!
I wish Gale could see my Saturn that ive boosted. Most of the design was based on his practices... 1.9L super efficient 400hp... 15-32 MPG...quick and reliable
Monitoring boost pressure? That means literally nothing. Don’t you know Gale, it’s all about the MAD!
Welcome to pimp my ride, Gale Banks edition.
Brian needs to put a MOVE Bumper on that truck! You guys did a great job! Absolutely awesome!
Heck yeah
That was a great watch
I wonder if Gale Banks is messing with dimpled pistons in his diesel builds?
Those speed of air pistons and thermal coatings would be a game changer for all diesel, gdi and ICE engines. Then how about the 2-stroke Detroit Diesel engines.
Damn.... Next mods for my 2000 7.3 for sure.
Kick ass truck
That track truck is sick!
That Excursion came out nice
Two super fantastic utubers .
Please re-edit the ending to feature the sound of freedom in that newly transformed diesel!!!
Gale I would love to see your version of a super stock pulling tractor
Hey Banks do you think you will build a hot and cold side charge pipes for a 6.7 powerstroke?
My 22 F350 powerstroke has your air intake and 5” monster exhaust and banks dash but I’m missing some banks charge pipes 😉
Those tremor wheels are crappy chineseum. Banks dropped the ball there. All of his stuff is made in USA, so put some USA made wheels on that beast.
Really neat build, but the front bumper seems out of place. I know it wasn't a Banks idea.
I hiked PP in 2012 and ate one of those donuts. Total ass kicker.
Gale we still waiting in the derringer for the 2018 Ram 2500 Cummins
Another BADASS ride made better by the G.O.A.T.! Well done Gale, as always!
I’m sure there are others, but I’d find it hard pressed to think of another aftermarket manufacturer that has such a high oem level of R&D in all of their products. You know that it’s going to last as well!
Gale is an AMERICAN TREASURE!!!
Very impressive, that’s why I put the Banks derringer, pedal-monster, I-dash and cold air intake on my 2019 6.6 at 25K miles, I won’t put cheap parts on my truck. Unfortunately after about 6 months and 8K miles with no issues my truck doesn’t seem to be liking the Derringer. You would think Banks would be all over it wanting to know why, but my first call to them didn’t give me much confidence they wanted to help. At first all I got was where did you buy it from? Then “unplug it and see what happens”. So I did and the problem went away, now I have no proof there was/is a problem until it resurfaces again. After 2 weeks of no issues I plugged it back in, 2 days now and so far so good. After my first interaction with them I’m not exactly looking forward to calling back and asking for more help, but then again I’m not famous.
@docsavage9901 Thank you for your input. Your review is upsetting, to say the least. We take great pride in our customer service. In fact, we've driven more than 100 miles in Friday afternoon rush-hour traffic to deliver parts in time-sensitive situations. At no time should you, as a customer, feel "didn’t give me much confidence they wanted to help." We have ample staff to handle issues like the Derringer in question and would be happy to troubleshoot this and replace it if necessary. Please email us at your convenience with your contact info and anything related to the issue, like photos or messages, to our socialmedia@bankspower.com email address. Someone will reach out today.
Hell yeah
When power meets torque 💪🏻💪🏻
Brian "The Torque" Shaw 💪😁👍
Gale Banks is a national treasure, and I'm not even from the USA!
Now let’s add on 120hp to a 1-3 year old Ford 6.7L…. Still impatiently waiting
Mr Banks what are your thoughts on the revised 3.0 straight six diesel good investment or not?
Which front suspenion is installed B8 6112 or B8 8110? It stance is perfect.
Banks was building 1200hp 454 trucks in the early 90s he’s a legend in the game
I'm eyeballing the Banks Power Pack for my 97 OBS. I've shopped around ALOT and even though Banks parts seem expensive. When you price individual components from ebay. You're only coming in a couple hundred less for Chinese parts vs American Made parts that ARE PROVEN TO BE THE BEST parts on the market
I would have liked to go for a ride with both of them
Do you have a video of a truck running the quarter mile with and without the exhaust tip
Looks straight out of 4X4 Evo 2;)
Banks is the guy Tim the tool man Taylor was made from, Beefs everything up and makes everything high performance
I have a 2002 7.3 with all the stuff under the hood. Besides the brake. What should the boost be? I think my truck is over boosting.
I must of missed the power numbers. Did they dyno it before and after?
Never would I have thought I'd have seen this crossover lol
Hi,did you build air intake for a 2023 toyota 4runner
I was waiting to see Brian's reaction face as he stomped on the gas 😢
Gale would have to be the nicest guy around
Love the 17”, not 24” finally.
I need that diff cover for dana 70 plis
I knew this was the place he needed go
@bankspower What's the part number for the Banks brake? When you filter on the website for an 01' Excursion it doesn't come up with anything.
