    One day, I will make a video titled “How to FIX Stick Drift” but until then, here you go. My basic (causal level) guide to avoiding/delaying the inevitable force that is stick drift. At the end of the day there’s no way to indefinitely avoid it. Every controller has its day, and drift will likely be the cause of it. With more and more people experiencing this issue each year, hopefully soon we can come up with a solution that not only works, but is easily applicable to modern controllers

    Sorry for the rolling shutter on the TV in the back, I'll be sure to fix that next video. That TV is as old as GTA 5 💀
    I'm aware of the other method for permanently fixing Stick Drift that was made my SolderKing. This is something I do plan on covering some day, but this video was moreso focused on ways to avoid Stick Drift for casual users (basically everybody lol)
    There are other things that MIGHT help slightly, like using Kontrol Freeks, or even their Precision Rings, but these are things that I myself can't confirm help in any way, so I decided not to include them. Although Precision Rings do keep dust out of the module with their design!

    I've watched several videos on stick drift and I think I've come up with at least a modification to delay the onset of stick drift. I'm no tech genius but, I am a car guy. In manual trans cars there's typically a cloth/leather/silicon booty covering the base of the shift lever to prevent dust and debris from falling into the transmission. Why not do something similar for controller sticks? The manufacturers could add silicon over the top of the gap up to the base of the stick tip. If they attached it high enough it should still allow for smooth contact/motion at full tilt but would prevent the majority of debris that currently gets down there and I suspect it would greatly extend the life of thumbsticks.

      PS4 Xbox and Switch Controller drifts are from wear and tear on the potentiometers and the other parts of the stick that reads where you’re holding it

    for elite 2s:
    -take a tooth pick or something thin n pointed to the length of every seam of the controller, ridding dust+sweat+yuck build up after each use.
    -use a thumbtack to remove plastic precision rings from each thumbstick. if possible use a tooth pick to rub/scrape under the metal stick where the potentiometer meets the circuit board, there is a visible metal circle directly in the center of each that accumulates sweat and gunk. get it tn out manually if possible.
    -soak Q tips with alchohol and clean exterior (obv) as well as interior; drip a few drops under the sticks towards potentiometer and circuit board.
    -alchohol Qtip the thumbsticks themselves; both the rubber as well as the inside metal.
    SWEAT BUILD UP IS MORE HARMFUL THAN DUST BUILD UP by a long shot. be agile and form routine before each use.

    Rubbing alcohol is something I do and it works wonders for me, all you gotta do is get a cotton swab, pull either end of it until it makes a thread, put some rubbing alcohol on it, pull the thumbstick up until you hear a click and apply the cotton swab around the stick untill you covered it entirely, but make sure you don't put too much or else it will leak into the module. This method works for me and if you have any questions LMK.

      Or even better, get some silicon WD40 lubricant. Blast it directly into the stick module and your stick is gonna be smoother than a baby's arse better than new.
      Ofcourse it wont fix if the component is genuinely broken (but if thats the case your stick drift will be so bad games are unplayable and need a new controller anyway) but will completely sort out any minor dust problems.

    • @cmscott
      @cmscott 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would HIGHLY advise AGAINST using cotton swabs. They contain many small hairs/fibers that (although you can't seem them) WILL get lodged in your controller and make it worse over time. Don't believe me? Use your phone on macro setting or use some other magnification and look what's inside your joystick. A superior option is an oral plunger/injector (pharmacies have them) that the orthodontists give patients to clean their teeth when they have braces or get their wisdom teeth removed. Those "needles" can get inside your analog joystick very easily and flush out contaminants way better. Be sure to use compressed air and blow/shake dry. Allow enough drying time before powering up.

    I've found that the most common cause of drift is the grind of plastic mechanical components. Last year i bought 2 cheap ipega controller, i opened one and put bearing grease on the movable parts. The other one was left like new because I was lazy. After playing a lot with my brother using the controllers, the one with the grease is in perfect condition while the other is basically unusable. I opened it up and there was a lot of white plastic dust from the components grinding each other. I will apply grease to my next controller but if you want to do that do it at your own risk

    Mythical!!!
    The drift depends on 2 factors, one is the wear / dirt in the potentiometer, the other is the yielding of the spring which makes the lever no longer return to the central position perfectly.
    I find the advice you give them all very valid but unfortunately there are not many solutions other than cleaning / changing the diskettes of the potentiometers or soldering a new analogue (difficult operation for an inexperienced person). The solutions like Thrustmaster or Astro in my opinion are the best because it is true that they are expensive but never how to throw away an Elite 2: (By the way, have you reviewed the thrustmaster xpro? I'm in love with it I would like to know your opinion;)

      Yeah, sadly there isn't much we can do. There's swappable module controllers, Soldering on new ALPS modules, or using one of those Stick Drift Fix PCBs, which are super easy, but also require a bit of Soldering lol. We're in a WEIRD position in gaming right now, especially with controllers
      And I actually haven't Reviewed the eswap yet, but I plan to this month! The script is almost finished, and that video will be recorded after I get this next video out. I've been enjoying it, and I generally have very positive things to say about it, aside from its extra buttons lol

    @swifdy6855 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Fixing the potentiometer is a good start but the next thing is the spring that centers the stick. You might have perfect potentiometers but the stick will stick in its preferred direction and there is nothing you can do to fix this. I thought higher tension sticks from battle beaver would help but its the same story. Modules themselves need to be reworked so that the stick itself is a high quality metal spring and the potentiometers should be swapped out for laser guided potentiometers so that they're precise and essentially last forever because there is no friction like using a optical sensor in a mouse. We need to Kickstart a module like this that is also swappable, whos with me?

    A lot of people talk about the potentiometers and dust getting into the controller. While those things certainly play a major factor in stick drift, the REAL reason that the analog stick experiences drift is because the potentiometer isn't hitting it's calibrated center when the joystick is at 0. And the reason the joystick isn't going perfectly back to zero is EITHER due to dust/contaminants OR spring fatigue. There is a spring inside the controller that forces tension on the stick (which should send it back to 0 when no force is applied). These springs just plain wear out. I don't see many people talking about this, but the video shows it very clearly here: th-cam.com/video/vQesgAtr2e4/w-d-xo.html Also, some light machine oil (non-conductive) can be applied inside the joystick to reduce stick tension when returning to 0. I have used this method with success. The major caveat with using oil is that it WILL attract more dust, etc. so you must keep the controller as clean as possible. You can give the joystick an "injection" or rubbing alcohol (I used oral plunger/injectors from the orthodontist) and flush out contaminants, then spray dry with compressed air. I have used a basketball inflation needle to get inside the analog sticks and clean them out with 80-90 PSI air. Works brilliantly.

      Do I have to take the controller apart to apply the oil? Which oil do you use?

      i think the ps2 and ps3 had a self zeroing hardware and software feature where you rotate the sticks to recalibrate them, maybe bring that back

    Hori has made a optical fighting stick (upgrade) a couple of years ago. It should be possible to use it with normal analogsticks too. Kinda funny this solutionis basically a fusion of an optical mouse and a old ball mouse.

    I found a solution to my stick drift that has been working for months. If you pull back the green cap on the side of the analog stick and put a thin piece of paper in between the green cap and the stick, push the green cap back all the way in and it works

    Hello, what xbox controllers have a really different feel on X Y B A buttons ? xbox one and series controller makes my joint hurt sometimes as they're kind of a hard to press compared to ps4 controller. What controller would you suggest me to check ? I've seen that the eswap x pro has mechanical buttons but I don't know. I also need a reliable controller. Anyway thanks for the vids, helpful and fun to watch

    • @vCuda
      @vCuda  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The eswap X pro has some mechanical buttons but they're a bit harder to press. Imo, the Razer Wolverine Ultimate had the easiest buttons to press, but it's a very weird Controller. The buttons are mechanical but they don't take much force to use

    Back when I played on my 360 I never encountered stick drift I've had that 360 since 2012 and still my controller doesn't have stick drift. Now on my Xbox One S...I have gone through 3 controllers in 2 years because of drift of the stick.

    Never had drift until the switch, which blows my mind. But I think because the way you always have to charge the JoyCons on the switch itself. But I'm using my pro controller all the time anyway.
