    I've spent half the video thinking about why "Queen of Nothing" was not with the other two on your shelf and then I was like "ooooooooooooooooooooooooooh, that's why" 😂😂 I totally agree about it being a rushed plot, but to me it felt more like a videogame without side quests, too short because it goes to the point, doesn't take any turn or side story to develop further into the world and the characters.
    Anyway, loved the video, really interesting to watch.

    Hey, I think you should check out actual Russian fantasy. Try The Stranger by Max Frei. It's a very popular series in Russia and in my opinion, it's very good. Also, try Vita Nostra by Marina and Sergey Dyachenko. They are Ukrainian writers and their fantasy is weird and angsty and I might be biased here because I'm also Ukrainian, but it's really good. And if you want something REALLY weird and Russian, try any book by Victor Pelevin The sacred book of the Werewolf, for example, is a good place to start. (If someone else is interested Pelevin's works are for adult only).

    In my opinion, if you read Archenemies and Supernova, Marissa Meyer does go in-depth in the politics of the Renegades, and how their actions affect the people around them (i.e. humans & Anarchists). I feel like Renegades acted as an introduction to the world and the characters, such that when the politics come into play in the 2nd and 3rd book, the tension in the plot feels more present. But that’s just how I feel about it because I love the Renegades series HAHA 😅🥰

    Queen of air and darkness was a disappointment for me. I gave it 4/5 because it was good, but there was like 300 pages that I couldn't care less of (the Thule part) and it was mostly because I didn't care about Emma and Julian's relationship. Also the end result was too easy and felt like we have seen it before

      Nelli I feel the same way! See, I did care about Emma and Julian but Thule didn’t work for me. I felt like it was Cassandra Clares excuse to revisit the TMI characters again. I loved Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens agenda... but Leah on the Offbeat was terrible. Also, Sadie by Courtney Summers was a huge let down. And Ruin and Rising, the last book in the Grisha Trilogy, really really disappointed me. It’s been a shit reading year. Lol

    I'm worried about Sorcery of Thorns because I own it, but I'm a character driven reader so I feel like it may work out ok for me lol.

    Is it just me or is anyone else bothered by how the bookshelf isn't centered? 😂😂 Joke's aside, sorry that you didn't like TQON. You were super excited and was really looking forward to it.

    I thought the cruel prince was an incredibly weak book, there was so much telling instead of showing, the writing was really plain and simple and the characters aren't consistent enough... I'm considering reading the second book in case it gets better but I'm not sure

    Queen of Nothing has been the worst book of my year. Biggest delusion ever.

    • @EllaKowalski9
      @EllaKowalski9 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@treweis1141 it's completely nonsense, everything is solved in one snap (and with no reasons at all), most of the action is told and not shown, every single character is out of character... There is no tension, no drama, I only finished it because I was hoping that it would improve at some point. And the ending is like Disney Channel back in the 90s. Really the worst series finale ever.

    My biggest disappointment read for this year were Sadie(which I DNF’d) and Wicked Fox. Also Ladies Guide of Petticoats and Piracy was definitely a disappointment, especially with how much I loved Gentleman’s Guide

    My biggest disappointment was Queen of Air and Darkness. I enjoyed it but it wasn’t what I was expecting.
    My least favorite book of the year was The Beautiful by Renee Ahdieh. It was so boring and I didn’t have a prayer of connecting with the characters. The writing wasn’t bad or difficult but it still took me the better part of a month to finish. Needless to say, I will not be continuing with the series.

    This year made me wary of thin books. Sorcery of Thorns and Queen of Nothing, for instance.

    Whoa. I wanted to disagree with you about Sorcery of Thorns because I loved it but now that I listen to your take I do remember feeling a bit let down with the world building. I just loved the characters so much so I rated it high still lol
