- www.autobytel.c... There are over 50 different versions of the 2012 Ford F-150 available but the one that is causing quite a stir (beside the Raptor) is the EcoBoost model. What's EcoBoost you might ask? Well its Ford's new twin-turbo 3.5 liter V-6 engine that produces 365 horsepower and 420 lb-ft. of torque all while managing great fuel economy figures. The 2012 Ford-F150 EcoBoost with 2WD gets 16 MPG in the city and 22 MPG on the highway.
From a design standpoint the 2012 Ford F-150 is way above the competition. In fact the Ford F-150 looks fresh and clean and up-to-date with today's automotive design. There is a ton of technology packed into the F-150 as well as all the utility you would expect from America's Top Selling truck.

I recently traded my 2008 Silverado 1500 LTZ for a 2012 Ecoboost King Ranch and can say, without question, the F-150 is far and away the class of the field right now. I'm not complaining that it gets exceptionally better fuel economy while also out-performing it in every way, interms of capability, safety, quality and drivability. I'm not saying my Chevy was junk (it's a good truck) but the F-150 is just on such a higher level right now that a comparison can't even be made. I'm happy I defected.
was this a truck review? sorry couldnt stop looking at the great shirt the guy was wearing he must be an award winner of some sort .
11,800 lbs towing capacity. I love mine. I traded an 04 F-350 diesel for this truck. Out performs my old superduty in every way!
Man dude you are so cool. Great view. Best truck review video on TH-cam. Guy knows his stuff
You can also tell an Ecoboost by the front license plate bracket. It has been moved to the left side to allow the air intake system to work properly. The badge isn't the only way you can tell it's an Ecoboost.
finally a reviewer who knows what hes talking about
I really like this generation of Ford. It's the best since 1990! Ecoboost is nice aswell.
21mpg at near sea level going down hill on a cold day with a tail wind pushing the truck maybe
Ya ur chev is also newer....The fords didnt get the ecoboost til 2011...The new ford 2012 makes a difference
RON! love your reviews.. especially on trucks. I would love to hear your reviews on the 2012 Honda's ridgeline!
Great presentation.
my dads new ecoboost gets 14 mpg.
Just here for a word of caution. I bought a 2012 Special Edition FX4 loaded brand new. Before 2017 was up, the truck was shot. Just in 2017 alone: rear parking sensor, camera, tow harness, moon roof, heater, CC fan acuator, heated/cool seat board, button to activate SYNC, and even the damn pastic around the shifter all broke and had to be PAID FOR because my warranty was up. And finally in November it all went to shit. 3 SEPERATE transmission leaks found while my truck was dead in the shop from A THROWN ROD AT 80000 miles clean through the block, taking out my coolant lines and a turbo with it; whole new engine. Almost $20000 in work needed within the first 3 years. Ford gave me the highest customer service score they had ever seen at that dealship (I've had a few) and told me they still couldnt cover the full amount. My family has had nothing but Fords for almost 70 years, but I dont know that I can get over this one.
I've had many vehicles in my 30+ years of driving and have never had a 5 year old car leaking tranny fluid or throwing rods. Sounds to me like you beat the everlasting shit out of it and now are reaping what you sowed.
King Daniel King Daniel Me niether. Honestly never had issues with my previous fords. Had a few problems with an old '03 5.4 Triton sneezin spark plugs after 170k but who didnt? I took care of my truck, and it was a bad apple, I know that, and I would have said the same before this one. But it happened, and I got the bills and a new car to remind me. P.S. for any other owners, the vavles were already gettin bad at 80k, Ford had no approved cleaning method as of Aug 2017.
The red on that f150 looks sexy
I live in Toronto and i too saw the same commercial where it advertise you get up to 31mpg*. I just bought my 2012 F150 FX4 3.5L Ecoboost FX Appearance package about a week ago and my window sticker says 20mpg/city and 29mpg/hwy. When driving(on a straight flat surface) it does give me those numbers, if not, close enough. when going on a climb, i average between 21-23mpg.
Didn't realize there are two types of gallons. Looked it up and got some more info on it. Thanks for the heads up. The vehicle was made in Missouri. Anyways, the important thing here is I'm content with the truck. LOL. In my opinion, ford do make great trucks.
So happened to 31 or 32 mpg ? The commercial was on again but this time it was 31 mpg ! 22 is not bad but a truck is a truck . Pick what ever one you wish.
Thanks,It is the base model but it's a 3.7 Lt. and it still won't ever get 31 mpg but one version had it at 23 mpg.
Get a 5.0L, Super strong, great torque and really great on gas!
@murderkid200 It's actually 26mpg.
This guy looks like he just came from a beauty pageant. He did not win, but he got the coveted prize of the Crown Vic.
i work for a ford dealer in Canada 4.5years now since day 1 ive seen zero eco boost issues, and same for the 5.0 both very solid engines... however, i do know that ford (least in Canada) is very very generous with warrenty, sometimes to generous. just because people cant properly maintain a vehicle dont mean the vehicle is bad.. you do have to change the oil sometimes right? lol
I'm going try one soon
@AndrewFKC just because you think something is "cooler" doesn't mean it can't be out of date. I think vynil records are cool. What the host means is that relative to the current F-150, the Tundra is dated (aside from the addition of a 6-speed transmission in 2009 and some new trim offerings, the Tundra hasn't changed in almost 6 years, making it, in automotive terms, dated).
I Love my turbo, 2.7 ecoboost 325 hp 375 torque, great in town milege, hopefully reliability won't be a big problem, the light weight aluminum body, the smooth shifting transmission, the great little engine just work together to make a full size truck that drives like my ole 67 289 HO Mustang drove, kind of a perfect marriage. Ride couldn't be any better, sure I think the RAM looks a little better, the Silverado keeps getting updated to stay a player and might even better the Ford highway mpg's, 90% of my driving is in town. Ford seems to be taking the most chances with the ecoboost turbo engines and aluminum body that won't rust, I do like that. I see tons of 4 and 5 year old Fords GM's and RAMs with hole eat out in the beds thanks to salt on the roads in Southern WV.
That spider on your profile is pretty neat haha
No rocket science with that! The Explorer curb weight ranges from 4100-4400, compared to F-150 curb weight starts from 4600 and up. The 4.0 power output is roughly half of HP and torque of 3.5 Ecoboost with the similar fuel consumption.
Which commercial is that? Maybe they're talking about the 3.7 V6, but still, I can't see it getting 31 haha. But yes, i agree. They should put real world numbers down instead of "going downhill-wind at your back-below speed limit" numbers. However, I know for a fact, the Ecoboost can get 23 MPG on the highway with good driving.
Actually, 3.5 ecoboost is better rated for towing than the 5.0
You aren't wrong, but you aren't right.
this truck gets 22mpg at most in USA which is only 26mpg in Canada.
Much less then the advertised 30-33mpg
Those Ford F150's are pretty intimidating when they're behind you!
Looks tiny compared to this guy lol
there are alot of these for sale, see them on lots everywhere, not just ford either
Just drove a friends f-150 ecoboost. Thing is very quick, everything in this review seems to be accurate, but I'm wrestling with the cost. Is its fuel economy going to offset the cost? We drive A LOT for work and put hard miles on vehicles by driving up rough mountain roads, sometimes hauling snow-cats (small ones) what about reliability? I love this thing and I'm kind of a Ford guy, but I want to be smart and buy value instead of brand. Suggestions?
@halflife103 No, thats under Canadian rating system in which a gallon is larger. Thats why its says 31 mpg hwy.
How do you know? It looks exactly like my 2012 FX4.
Good video bro
In Europe the Ford focus has a three-cylinder ecoboost and it's more than 100hp :O
Because Dodge followed Ford's idea. They both use modern V-6 engines initially equip on cars and crossovers to the full sized trucks. The RAM 1500 edges the ford on highway figures only, mainly because of 8 speed autobox and some aerodynamic figures. GM is still sticking with their aging but dependable and cheaper V-6, for now.
Interesting, I find the F150 seats probably the most comfortable truck seats I've ever had. Maybe it's base vs buckets? (I've owned multiples of all brands but Nissan over the years)
I have a 99 and my only complaint is that the dashboard may as well be made of eggshells. I cringed when I heard they began using coil springs. And, the 2013 Ram has air suspension which is great for load levelling, but I just see it as one more piece of technology to go wrong. 90% of breakdowns my truck has had were electrical in nature. If I were buying a brand new truck, it would NOT be a Ram. Most likely would be a chevy, because to be honest I want a damn column shift in a truck.
Canada uses the imperial gallon, correct?. If so, your 29 is pretty close to our 21-23, which is what they advertise here.
Oh, and I say that with a newer Volvo as our other car. And their seats are some of the best.
YUUUPPP!!!! Ecoboost FTW!!!
@HeinskitzVelvet He looks like a crossing guard!
carry on, sorry not trying to change your view or anything. I just find it interesting no new energy sources have been brought forward / the slow progression of our combustion engine. Not trying to prove you wrong, sorry for any discomfort.
@halflife103 There is a difference in our Canadian Gallons to their American Gallons. Americans get less MPG's because their Gallon is smaller at 4.14 L
@superbman101 You haven't seen that f150 commercial?.
I have this truck, except V8 and in Silver, not red. But the Ram interior is better, especially on higher trim levels. And it was in previous gen.
For what its worth, I think Top Gear proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that Toyota trucks are indestructible.
the commercials do here in Canada.
Always have and will be a Chevy man, but I'm starting to like the new Fords!
look on the sticker again they to get close to 30 mpg but average fuel economy is made in prominent bold letters so no the commercials do not lie they just told you the best you will get not the average as on the sticker
Fuck 4 cylinder trucks in the future!! man i wish they made a v8 twin turbo truck. i would rather buy that :)
Still when that turbo breaks, it's just something else to fix. And the only reason that EB is so powerful is because it's got a turbo on it. Put that turbo on a V8 and it'll be insane. Sure, those spools are nice and all but nothing beats displacement. Maybe I'm old school but trucks need that nice rumble of a V8. When I bought my new F150 one of the first things they asked was what engine size, I never even considered a little V6 for a truck. Especially at $1500 more dollars. Screw that noise.
different sticker and gauges. they changed both 2012.
ive heard of some on f150forum . com.....i know a lot have had those custom sct tuners from bullydog and 5startune some of the people were having problems with the turbos failing, condensation build up in the intercooler, and cylinder misfire but all aside how do you go about getting a job at a dealership? where i live in the states you have to go to tech schools like UTI which ive heard bad reviews about
@halflife103 Ford must have done their test downhill. Hence they got 31mpg :D
How many catalytic converters does the F150 v6 eco boost have?
Hell yea, that fuel cap...
You got confused with the 3.8 base F-150 model.
@HeinskitzVelvet i have almost completely forgotten my main point XD
It's odd that i never mentioned that in a comment because ialways mention the "estimated"... weird..
For all you people who think i am lying, i am not gonna sit at my TV with my camera all day HOPING that the commercial will come on.
I am in Canada, it is a Canadian commercial.
My guess is that they are using VERY old Canadian Measurements that have not been used for well over 50 years.
@HeinskitzVelvet Still, the vehicle only gets 22mpg AT MOST. Even if that is the Canadian Gallon that is only 26mpg. Still, they are not telling us the proper results.
I really wish i had a Camera so i could record the commercial. It actually says 33mpg.
@halflife103 31mpg is mustang v6...
@NMSchultz1 which commercial?.
From Commercials to Paper the numbers are ALWAYS embellished
yea a six, they gotta go back to the drawing board on it though. i have a 2011 with 9k miles dont get me wrong i love my f150 but it shifts like a dog humping a leg every now and then
what do you mean by that? You can get an ecoboost in 4x4
Why care about mpg when you get a truck? It's like trying to buy the most fuel efficient muscle car,...WHO GIVES A FUCK!
@autobytel what trim did you use for this video ?
excellent
I have test-driven all three new engines. 3.7V6, Ecoboost and 5.0 V8 and found the V8 to be the most responsive and best feeling of the engines. When you're driving a fullsize pickup, you should hear and feel your engine. You should know the power is there. Both V6s fall short in this category. They are so quiet, you can't hear the engine at speed, and there is no sense of power until you floor the pedal and are greeted by an angry mosquito instead of the V8 rumble you should get in an F150.
Nice Ducati Oakleys!
they don't say 31 mpg
my excursions v10 gets 11mpg :P
@fordtrucks123ify It's one of their commercials. If i could find it i would show you.
420crunk1, your dad needs to get his checked. I get 21.8 miles per gallon at 65mph!!!
@halflife103 dude dude dude, that's the v6 engine, so there not lying, there just not being right lol
ive seen atleast 3 people getting the sticker or better in fuel mileage.. depends how you drive
it seams like every time i hear someone bragging about their for they are either supercharged or turbo. cause they cant make enough raw engine horse power. i drive a 2008 ford f150 with 5.4 L that my company gave me to drive and my personal truck is a 2012 Chevy silverado 5.3L z71 its got more get up and go than my company truck.
I Love how people think that is the answer... it is not.
is the ecoboost getting the power of a V8? Sure is getting it from 2 turbos stressing out power from the puny V6 and thats cheating too. take out the turbos and you can have a fair match against the V8.
This isn't the 80's anymore, turbo's are reliable now. Their is a couple 3.5's with 300,000 on them now. Yes, the turbos add more hp, and you could do it to a v8 and get even more hp. But the reason behind doing it to a 6 cylinder is to get better MPG.
i have a 2011 5.0, with mized driving 50/50 i get 19mpg on the highway i get 21mpg
going 160km/h?
ya we don't need to have that v-6 fucking caravan engines atleast if your going to make a v-6 for a truck make it diesel then you'll save fuel economy
When people buy the raptor they don't care about gas mileage
@garff1234 Already went over that in another comment below.
Alan Mullaly
Funny how the commercials for this truck say 31mpg....
Why are commercials allowed to lie to our faces?. Isn't that false advertisement?.
Look at this way. If it survived all of that abuse, then a normal vehicle's life should be absolutely nothing to handle in comparison.
I clearly stated that in the Commercials that they said that the truck gets 31mpg.
geez, comments are getting dumber over time.
fix or repair daily.
me puedes traducir 14mpg en kilometros por litros,,,gracias
They need to release the new Ranger in AMerica for the average driver that wants a light truck and stop jiffing us with the f150 bull.
oh it's fine.... Google the EV1 Electric Car.
oh then I'm not sure, here in the USA they say 21
i have a new f150 with a 5.0L i love it but the ecoboosts are a crap shoot theres been so many problems with them and ford refuses to fix them, mainly because they dont know the exact problem to fix when you have a catastrophic problem, that being said id stick with chevy i like the silverado 1500 nothing beats the look of a 1500 regular cab
Careful what you say... People will call you a liar for that.
That's actually a 2011 FX4 not a 2012.
No way will I drive a truck with V6, fuck that V8 forever baby!
