- ( www.TFLtruck.com ) The 2013 Ford F-150 EcoBoost Limited is not exactly set-up to be the most off-road worthy truck that Ford builds. In fact with 22 inch wheels the Limited Model is perhaps one of the less off-road worthy light duty trucks on the market. But never-the-less we wanted to see how well this truck would deal with the Colorado Rocky Mountains. In another accurate, fun and informative review, Nathan and Roman put the 2013 Ford F-150 EcoBoost Limited to the TFLtruck test by taking it into Colorado mountains to see how well this truck drives when the going gets tough.

I actually prefer a column shifter in my trucks. Opens up so much more space up front. I like that big open feeling.
omg, i'm fucking laughing my fucking ass off. I had a tough day today and I was very angry when getting home a few minutes ago. However, hearing Nathan saying "They should just call it SCROTUM BOOST" just made my day! Thank you Nathan! hahahaha
These 12th gen limited looks have aged really well! Looks better to my eye now than it did when it was new.
Offroading? You could drive a corvette down that and you'd still be fine.
Remember when you could get a limited for $55k? Now that buys you and XLT
Watching this in now 2018, I find it funny that folks wanted this engine in the Raptor until they got it and now everyone wants the V8 back.
They could make a V8 turbo. It’s all about saving money.

2 years later and ford listened to you guys and put the ecoboost in the 2017 raptor!
I still have this truck. My wife loves it. My kids love it. I love it. I can't imagine you will never find a more comfortable truck. But I agree with the reviewers- the wheels/tires are terrible for anything offroad. We live on a farm and use this mostly for trips to Home Depot, Tractor Supply, or picking up loads or gravel from the rock shop. The wheels/tires are my only complaint...oh and that I had to buy the bed liner and bed extender as aftermarket options.

With a V8 you get V8 power and V8 fuel economy all the time but with that V6 you get V8 power when you need and V6 fuel economy when you're just driving around, it depends on how you drive. I have one myself.

@@clarkmclean2345 gotcha. Ya the body style came out 2009, but updated motors didn't come until 2011. The 5.4 V8 just didn't cut it anymore.

Fords interior is by far better than dodge and toyota and Chevy.
They are coming out with a short bed version called the tremor which tynically is the lightning replacement. So the eco boost will be put to the test.
These two are Dodge boys, nothing wrong with that,but, do not be judging the competition all over the internet if you cannot be impartial in your comments. Plastic on doors interiors,I just wonder what the competition has,leather,exotic woods or fabrics?

Big fan of the EcoBoost, but give me the column shifter! You can get a floor shifter in a Corolla, it's nice to have something different, even if it is nostalgic. Also, don't forget the FX4 package! I would like to see the rumored 5.0L EcoBoost from the next GT500 to be put in a Raptor.

I am curious...can you smell gas when you take your oil cap off? I have the same truck and noticed a gas smell when I gas the oil.

Will a v6 ecoboost be able to support a 6” lift and 35” tires. I know it makes the power but I can’t get over having a half ton pickup with a v6. Seems like a v8 can make the same power with less effort.

I have almost 200 miles on my FX-4 Ecoboost. Its has great torque and its super smooth and quiet. Considering it will be on blacktop 99.99 % of the time the tires are great. I drove 100 miles today in heavy rain and it was totally surefooted. While they knock the tires it in the video - I didn't see any real issues. Driving within the vehicle limits is what its all about. If I were planning 5' jumps well then there's the Raptor which I doubt is as smooth as this on the highway for the simple fact that the tires are off road oriented. Besides, who wants to be driving a vehicle regularly that they jump 5' with? LOL
As far as those knocking it I can't say that it has had any issue. Hopefully it will give me 10+ years like my old Sierra did.

I owned a 2011 F150 Lariat Supercrew 4x4 with the 5.0 V8 and I just purchased a 2013/14 F150 King Ranch Supercrew 4x4 with the Ecoboost. The V6 is way more powerful without any doubt, but your right about the sound, the V8 sounds better.
if the dash and door panel is not comfortable, don't sit on it.
Just a thought...Did anyone else notice when Roman closed the hood the rattle? I was always a ford guy (have had 3 F150's) but the present F150 can not compare the the Ram. Ended up buying a new Ram..But with Nathan don't like the hockey puck. opted for the 6 speed. Keep up the fun reviews guys!!
You guys do a great job with the Ike challenge but this was pretty sad. I have an fx4 and was looking for a good review but in my opinion you should wait until you can get the off -road versions and definitely find a better place to "off-road"

like he said and ive always thought I think this motor in the ranger would be great! and the mpg would be there also! I had a 2010 ford ranger 4x4 4.0 5 speed manual and that 4.0 vs. my 3.5 ecoboost 2013 f150 is crazy in power.

Like the engine. Hate the cheapness of it. Grille shakes when you close the hood and those cheap plastics have to go. Yes its a truck, but its a luxury truck. Put better materials please
What truck doesn't have that problem? An or meta grills?
Jonathan Washington Dodge Ram, Toyota Tundra, Chevy Silverado/ GMC Sierra don't have that issue
***** Actually, that really depends on the point of view. A mechanic may like the fact that the grille attached to the hood, making it so much easier to work or modify on the front of the truck.
I actually surprised to see that they still included an under hood liner on this F150. Most company cheap out and don't include one any more. I believe even the new Superduties don't get the under hood liner either.
***** It looks a lot better, but that doesn't mean the materials are more quality. You'd have to wait until reviewers get their hands on a production one. What you've been seeing is a prototype/concept interior. They could completely change the interior by the time production starts
how do you activate the perimeter alarm on this limited?
I never noticed the intercooler hole in there. Now that Roman pointed it, I can unsee it and looks awful.

I would take this truck over any other truck on the market. looks the best, has power, good off-roader... I should've bought one rather than my 4Runner but I like it so.... but yeah I like the Ford. definitely my preference

I feel like if you get the limited you are telling everyone i definitely got a truck that I never plan to use other than driving around on pavement. At least with the platinum you can get the extended bed or the V8 option

Love the review guess what a week ago i traded my 2021 Mitsubishi Mirage and now own outright my own 2014 Ford F-150 3.5 ecoboost 4 dr 4x4 platinum fully loaded i put cooper discoverer at3 tires on my truck and this Friday im doing a muffler delete its the perfect amount of sound loud turbos and no raspiness my truck is white and I named it white diamond i have 132,000 running amazingly hope you all are doing well

I have a 2013 f150 xlt and it's a great truck even with the 3.7 v6....except my gas milage is worse than a v8....im at 13.5 mpg

look up 2013 Ford F-150 Limited Grille on Amazon or eBay, you could even go to a dealership and buy it there. hope this helped a little bit. :)

FYI, that is not a Platinum, that is a Limited. Different trim levels and options. 22 inch wheels are only available on Limited, as well as only the 3.5EB on the Limited. It also has lower tow rating than Platinum.
I have no complaints. Mine if perfect.

Not this model, but it has heated and cooled wheels.
Not really an off road test to me, you should come to Saskatchewan and give it a real test! I've got the 2010 F150 and it's a nice truck but am starting to lean towards going back to a bowtie!

I totally agree with you, those 22in wheels suck! I bet most would prefer 18's.
As for the motor, it's got some impressive numbers for a V6 and the few that I've driven I did enjoy, but Ford should have kept the 6.2 option I have one and I absolutely love the truck with a 6.2 and it's not the Raptor. Ford made a big mistake by getting rid of the 6.2 and going to 5.0 or EcoBoost the options should have been 6.2 or EcoBoost.
Guys the best truck to take off road would be the FX4 not the raptor the raptor was made to go high speeds in rough terrain although I'm sure it would do good on that little trail too!!

The Raptor should have a large engine not a small one or it would have the same problem of it not seeming right like the 5.4 it had but it definitely deserves an ecoboost in it. Ford are putting the 3.5 ecoboost in a small truck called the Tremor

Looking to buy a f150 2013 - 2015 but learning they have issues with oil leaks and manifold breaks. This is 2023 and they are still asking around 30k to buy. They call it inflation. To replace this engine is 7k pluse labor....😢
The Ford is the best truck and that has been proven over an over. That's why they sell so many because they are the best....
What was the point in saying the kink in the door was only for looks? All trucks have something that is just for visuals. I own one and I hate that stupid wide open inter cooler hole in the bumper. It looks unfinished.

Not a fan of the 22's. I do like the exterior on this truck without the huge chrome grill surround on other models, this one is just chrome in the middle so it doesn't look so ridiculous.
I prefer this interior over the 2015 and up models
I may be biased because I have a 2012 but that is my favorite dash interior.
If I were in the market for a new truck it would be the raptor svt all the way!

Shame on you. There is no such thing as an overpowered car or truck. There are just cars and trucks which are not adequately equipped to handle the available power.

You call that off-road? It's a dirt road, no problem for a limited even with 22's on it, although anyone driving a truck with 22's on it doesn't go off- road very often. The hole for the intercooler I don't know why Ford didn't cover it with a mesh screen, get an aftermarket mesh screen to cover it or road debris will hit the fins on the intercooler and damage them.

And yea i can do without the big rims. For a truck that is doing alot of work smaller rims are a better idea.

I like the truck for looks and the engine but the interior plastics does look cheap. The build quality seems subpar. Look at the grille shake when the hood is being closed. I do agree that the floor shifter is good.
Roman and Nathan the 2015 F-150 will have slightly better interior plastics just to be competitive enf 4 class,but most importantly 200 ft pond les weight with same rigid stiff and well insulated cabin, less weight means more efficient,more power effectiveness,more fuel economy,F-150 will always be KING of trucks,nothing can break its capabilities
Also the 3.5l ecoboost v6 is coming in 2015 Ford Taurus but with 50 ft pound less torque but the new Taurus too 200 ft pound lighter so, that car will kick some German v8 ass

Although this is a nice truck, there are many unneeded things on this truck that many could do without and make it much cheaper.
Hell no that engine will ruin the Raptor.
Put that ecoboost in a raptor for the sake of power put two more turbos on it then it will fly
