Nice work... some tips for you. 1st. Safety, when pulling, place extra chains over the chains used for pulling. The weight of the chains will prevent the chain from taking out your head if the chain breaks or slips from anchor point. 2nd, when pulling, stress release the metal with a rubber mallet or a piece of wood.
Thanks enjoyed the video. Everyone comments about cheaper ways of pulling that out......but it will come in handy when you're friends need there cars fixed. A few pulls. It will pay for itself
just purchased both, I changed my mind on the come a long because I was scared it snaps in my face, with this tool , you can be out of the way in case it comes loose go forbid, both a still dangerous must be care fully.
nice line up for the bolt holes. I've been thinking about getting the porta power. I didn't see the puller at the local harbor freight. I'll have to ask them.. I enjoyed the video. Thanks.
You are welcome. That puller started leaking oil after about dozen or so uses. I exchanged it under return policy and purchased replacement warranty. Harbor freight tools are cheaper but they are not the best quality. So you may consider warranties and replacement options. Good luck!
I was planning on doing this and bought a single action porta power thinking I could pull with it. I'll have to make a chain frame now. Check if it's single action (push} or double action(push and pull). Before buying lol
Lol, hahaha. I tried, it would snap right back again. I just enjoy being over-prepared, lol, nothing wrong with that, except for $$$$.... It is like hunting turkey with a tank. Lol. Cheers!
Yes, sure. The hydraulic puller can be very pricy. You might want to try and buy one of the manual cable winch pullers from Harbor Freight or online. Here are some that are being sold: m.harborfreight.com/catalogsearch/result/index/?dir=asc&order=EAScore%2Cf%2CEAFeatured+Weight%2Cf%2CSale+Rank%2Cf&q=Cable+winch+ You can get a decent 4-ton puller for $30. I use my hydraulic puller 2-3 times each month, so the cost is justified for me. If you need a puller for just 1 job then you need to save $$$, I think. Hope this helps. Good luck!!!
Are the fittings on those hydraulic tools built to a standard? I already have a 4 Ton hydraulic kit but I don't have a hydraulic puller. I'm just wondering if I could use just any puller or do the fittings differ with the manufacturers.
So far I have used half a dozen different kinds and the fittings are all the same. So I think they are built to a standard. You might still be able to use any hydraulic puller, not sure about any puller that is not oil hydraulic though, hope this helps, Good Luck!
Instead of spending $300 only to use a chain rated for 1 ton, to build some overly complicated frame puller, you could've bought harbor freights 2500lb capacity winch, for $70 that comes with a 20ft wireless remote. Just saying.
This setup is only $165 for the pump and 10 ton pulley. It's way faster and more practical. No electrical power needed. No need to find somewhere to mount a wench. Small body shops often have a setup like this for framework. You'd be hard pressed to find one that does it with a wench.
@@dreamingcode Thanks. I've decided to go with a Tekton 5547 4 ton Ratcheting Pulley and a JCHL Nylon 7.5 ton towing strap for my own DIY bumper rail repair. Total cost $80. 😊
while it's a good idea to have among your tools a porta-puller kit, for that little bending - on the radiator upper suport - you actually don't need to waste your resources on these type of small operations like that actually, and what it really works well on this application, is just the chain attached to the same tree you have on your video, and a 10 mm x 2 inches long screw with washers and a nut on the radiator's support bracket slot once this set up has been made, slowly, just pull back up the car little by little until you get the proper alignment with your radiator and support bracket and you'll be done in less than 5 minutes 👈
Wow, thank you for your comment, suggestions and ideas! I guess I really did not honestly think of that at the moment. I had couple of other projects that I wanted to used the hydraulic puller on so I had decided to go ahead and buy it. Since then I have gotten dozens of great ideas on how to pull off this job now from other people’s commenting. So thank you!
FixIt - not a problem bro like i'd said, it's a good idea to have equipment as such, but remember that most situations are very simple to solve; just be practical 👈
LOL! We don't want to hurt ourselves! Then he hooks the puller by the hook point (the weakest part of the hook) and starts pulling on the point! HEY WHAT COULD POSSIABLY GO WRONG RIGHT? And then wraps a chain around a tree so he can damage the tree and possibly kill it too! LOL! Gotta Love it! Hey, you're getting the task accomplished Good Job! Been a lot safer AND cheaper if you would have used one of all of those push rams and got behind that bent piece and pushed it into place! MAYBE?
I think it will work. However you need a way to tie down the vehicle if the pulling goes over 1-2 tons. Use the emergency brake. I also chain up my car to the 5,000 SUV on the other end. If pulling is too strong it moves everything. But within 2-3 tons pulling tensions things do work out ok. I hope this makes sense and it helps. Good luck!
Hey Jim, I knew you would say that. The problem was that I could not squeeze any hammers behind it. So I use the hydraulic pullers for other things too now. Thanks for sharing some ides!
I know Kevin. I know. I use this hydraulic puller almost once a week now. I think the cost is somewhat justified now. I also did not have enough room for the hammer to do the job under the hood. So I now got lots of ideas from people like you on doing the same job with dozen different tools. It was a learning process for me. Lol. Thank you for sharing. I think the cost is worth it if you use the tool on dozens of different cars and projects. I hope it is.
socalraie theoretically yes, you would need a different attachment, like a plate and loop so you can attach it to the hinge post and pull on the loop. They should sell them on amazon or eBay.
to do that you dont even need a machine or a hydraulic portapower in order to straight that radiator bracket, all you need is to hook up the chain to that tree and back up the car a little bit and you're done with it, OR you just hammer it until you reach the desired position for it dude 🤠
Creo que te falto un poco de ingenio hermano, debiste poner un pedazo de madera al momento de jalar y así enderezar parejo la lámina cuando llegara la punta al tornillo del radiador y quedará parejo desde abajo.solo es una observación.

where can i get the tree from
Arbor Freight
@@risunokairu OMG you win the Internet with this comment. Perfect!
I was looking at both of these yesterday at HF to repair a Apollo 3500 Gran Turismo with front end damage. Seems like a decent tool for the price aye.
I got all the puller kit but now I need the 50 year old tree where can I buy that from???
LMAO
Buy a packet of seeds and wait 50 years.
Just look for a light pole is a bunch right their in your block 😁😁😁😁😁
shawbros good idea. I got some seeds.
Now we just wait!!!!!!!!!
Yogi Bear has a sale on at Jellystone Park🤪
Honestly a tree or pole, a large heavy duty ratchet strap, a chain and a come-a-long would work exactly the same.
Maybe......with a LOT more elbow grease. Can't beat the pulling/pushing power of a hydraulic pump.
@Deshawn Bryson Rest assured, no one gives a damn.
@Kace Bruce Let us know how it went.

Really? Superman? I'll pay you 1,000$s if you can do it on my car.
The 8000 on the pump means that the device it came with can handle 8000 kgs.
It han push 80000kgs if you use a bigger diameter cylinder.
Man you could have done the same thing with a $10 come along

4 ton, 6 ton and 8 ton.
Why didn't you show how you got it all the way aligned. Are all the parts in the 140 kit that's needed
I forgot to edit that part in. Yes, all the parts needed were there. Good Luck.
Just a reminder always pull before installing new parts Dri-Fit before final installation
Ok, thank you for the tip. I learned this lesson as I keep working on them. It is a great idea. Saves a lot of headache in the long run. Thank you.
is there any reason you didn't push it?
You should cover the chain with a tarp in case it busts
