He achieved his own dreams by first getting good parts to directing and producing films . He directed epic films that had a longer length of time though Waterworld got bad reviews, fans liked it . It didn't stop him from being a top star for almost 40 yrs .
I was on a first date, & when he recognizes his Dad & asks to have a catch. I was begging myself not to cry. The line is said & I lost it (my father had recently passed) completely. The girl comforted me & she was very impressed that I allowed her to see how vulnerable I was. My father was my coach & we were very close.
Damn. That's a tough one. Sorry for your loss and yeah, that would get you hard. My dad was never around so that line didn't particularly get me in the feels like that, but the way he says it.... almost makes me water up.
You know what I heard? I heard that loosing a parent makes you grieve not for a moment but for the rest of your life and I still have both of my parents, no brothers or sisters. I hope I'm dead wrong
John Barry, the MASTER that he was, made Dances With Wolves the Masterpiece that it is and always will be. The soundtrack is sweeping and dramatic. I love his music. DWW is in my 2 TOP picks for cinematic purity of all time. Brilliant film and I see no errors, Kevin. Bravo!

I've always thought it may have been because he was usually in "different" movies. Little action, little stimulated sex scenes (Revenge was awesome) , long, and mostly heartfelt. I'm a fan, so I love his over 90 minute movies. I think most peeps couldn't do it. He wasn't the muscle head, the sex stallion, the adrenaline junkie, or the emasculated wus. well... i don't really put a whole lot of stock in what young people think anyway. what they usually say is 'oh that movie is just too old' or some other ignorant nonsense. Can lead them to water, can't make em drink. Their loss
Kevin Costner was the first real superhero for me. In the early 90s with Robin Hood POT and the Bodyguard and as a 7-9 year old thought he could do anything. A traditional leading man you don’t see too much of now
He's my favorite actor of all time. I've been entertained of his films, but my favorite is Dances With Wolves. I consider it an absolute masterpiece, on a par with the most iconic films of all time, like The Godfather, On the Waterfront, Apocalypse Now, Rebel Without a Cause, Ordinary People etc. And he's a musician and a guitar player, like me. Perfect!
Open Range, Dances With Wolves are some of my favorites but he was not in the best western ever. That goes to either Tombstone, Unforgiven or maybe an older Clint Eastwood western. But they are up there. All in the same group I'd say.
Recently watched Wyatt Earp and Dances with Wolves back to back. I love both movies. Tombstone is good but Wyatt Earp followed his life better. Had that epic feel to it.
I saw “For love of the Game” in the theatre when I first joined the navy. Great movie but for some reason I never watched it again until last August when I retired. Hit me like a tone of bricks. Great job Costner!
For me, the Field of Dreams moment is me and my Grandfather, who was the one that took me to my first (and 10th, and 20th...) major league game. He loved baseball, it rubbed off on me. Working in Dubuque, IA in 1989 near where the movie was made, and where it was premiered at the JFK Mall Theatre in Dubuque, I was in the audience the first night the movie was shown to the public. I didn't tear up, or weep a bit, I actually broke down completely. Full on cry. And it still does it to me today, 30 years later. Thank you, Kevin.
I enjoy watching everyone of these movies...multiple times...and I don’t care what the critics say... Message In A Bottle is a movie I will from time to time.
1:12 "To my mind, the biggest star I ever worked with.....Sean Connery." Wow. I bet Paul Newman, Clint Eastwood, Anthony Quinn, Robert Duval, Gene Hackman, Tommy Lee Jones and Donald Sutherland would be happy to hear that. Btw, Costner did Fandango, American Flyers, Silverado, Untouchables, Field of Dreams and Bull Durham IN A ROW. (And only a couple mediocre films separating JFK, Revenge and Dances With Wolves from Durham.) I can't think of another actor who had a winning streak like that. Even Pacino, De Niro, Eastwood, etc, made bombs in between the classics.
all kevin costner films hv touched me in certain ways but message in a bottle and swing vote r 2 of my fav he is just so amazingly talented how he is able to reach out and pull ur heart into a movie wether hes acting directing, producing or al of the above . LUV FROM AUSTRALIA
I saw Field of Dreams on a plane in 1990. I was a super fan of Bull Durham but for some reason, I wasn't looking forward at watching another Costner baseball movie; not sure why I felt that way. I saw the movie and I'm close to balling on this plane ride home. I had to tell myself not to cry. When I got back, I went to my local video store and rented it right away. I must have watched it 3 times in a 2 day span. That movie was magic. The score, the actors and the line..."Dad, you want to have a catch?"
I'm glad he likes westerns, he's good in them, exceptional. I like Kevin in just about everything he's done, one of our best actors and a great director.
Just got done watching , Kevin Costner is one of the best. Great movie. I love his feisty wife too...( I think you had two 60s and went right into the 70s.)
My most treasured movie- so love the ending part "Dad??? You Wanna have a catch?" "I'd like that" amazing acting, a dream that will live forever in my heart
Costner has been a phenomenal actor throughout his career. My personal favorites were The War alongside a young Elijah wood, and one of the greatest movies of the 90s.... Waterworld! I can watch waterworld or the war any day. Those two never get old for me for some reason. Bravo!
i used be anti costner, just seen too much of him at the time maybe,,, but he seems like a really cool down to earth guy... and was in some really great movies...
Bull Durham was his best movie, in my opinion. I also lived in Durham for four years and went to countless games at the old DAP. Just a fantastic place to see a game.
Wyatt Earp was pretty bad. It was WAY too long, and nothing CLOSE to Tombstone. Open Range is fantastic though as is Field of Dreams and Dances with Wolves.
Tombstone was an absolute shit show compared to Earp. If it wasn’t for Val Kilmer Tombstone’s acting range would be on par with The Real Housewives Of WhereTheFuckEver. Wyatt Earp told a story & did a goddam good job of it.
He's really rebuilt his reputation after his 90s-2000s slump. He's awesome at playing the tough guy in Westerns, but he has a lot of range outside of that of course.
It is amazing that in this really good interview of Kevin Costner that he says the biggest star he ever worked with was Sean Connery. He forgot that he also worked with Burt Lancaster ("Field of Dreams") who was during his film career an equally big star if not a bigger star than Sean Connery !
For a while there, Costner was on fire. I was still living in South Dakota when he filmed Dances With Wolves there, and I spent more than a few dollars at his casino in Deadwood.
Both are excellent, only problem with open range was of course all the fanboy critics who check for errors complain about unlimited ammo, other than that it's hard to compare the two because they are such different movies
Kevin should have mentioned his role in NO WAY OUT, which is one of his best films IMO. It also showed his sexy vulnerable side and had you rooting for him until the end. Also had the unexpected twist at the end of the movie.
Field of Dreams is great for too many reasons to list. Dances with Wolves was the first real "epic" serious movie I ever watched because I was just a kid at the time and I thought it was amazing. Robin Hood is shit on for not following the book but I love it. It was and still is one of my favorite movies. Costner is an amazing actor and looking back he was a big part of my childhood
Of all his movies, "Dance with Wolves" was the most powerful and memorable film for me besides "Field of Dream". "Dance with Wolves" in my opinion, is among up there with the top best classics like "Shawashank Redemption" and "Forest Gump".
I wonder how much Kevin remembers about a film he shot here in Reno, originally titled “Double Down” (later retitled “Stacey’s Knights”)? He was not yet the megastar he became several years after that little D movie. Shot at the Peppermill Casino. I still have the t-shirt I got as part of my pay for working as an extra.
'The Upside of Anger' is a great film. Fun Fact - Costner played Alex, the college friend whose suicide triggered the reunion of the "The Big Chill." Costner filmed a flashback scene - a '60s Thanksgiving dinner with the entire cast - which was to end the film, but director Lawrence Kasdan cut it. All that remains of Costner is bits representing the body of Alex being dressed for his funeral, shown during the opening credits.
I know. I've always hated that he wasn't in The Big Chill in the end all his parts were cut. It's one of my favorite movies and would have been even better if the beautiful Kevin had been in it!!
Every movies of Kevin Costner
Are awesome
My favorite actor in life
Love you Kevin Costner 😚😚😚😚😚😚💙💖💛💚❤💗👍👍👍👍👌
The Bodyguard was “the movie” for me! Loved the chemistry between Whitney and him! I’ve watched that movie about 30 times!
Kevin costner said in a interview, Whitney Houston was his one true love. He also said he would always love her.
The scarf scene
Whitney made that movie. What a wonderful human being who was taken advantage of her entire life.
Dances with wolves.....a real masterpiece of modern cinema and storytelling......pure raw and honest, one of my all time favorites
Fun, but not honest
Just one of those films ive never seen and never wanted too even though i love the 80s and 90s and like costner in that era
❤ATOR MAIS INTELIGENTE, FASCINANTE E MARAVILHOSO....SEJA INTENSAMENTE FELIZ...BEIJOS NO SEU CORAÇÃO ❤
Field of Dreams is my all time favourite movie.....
I was with my dad the first time I saw FOD; a week later he had a stroke. Imagine how emotional that scene is for me.
An amazing actor, director, and producer.
The man never lost sight of his dreams.
He achieved his own dreams by first getting good parts to directing and producing films . He directed epic films that had a longer length of time though Waterworld got bad reviews, fans liked it . It didn't stop him from being a top star for almost 40 yrs .

William A. Roesler Any guy who said they didn’t shed a tear in that scene is full of shit! I saw it, and my youth flashed before me! R.I.P. Pop.
Incog Nito I know all to well where you’re coming from. I still think about him every day, after 8 years. Several times a day.
@Incog Nito we never said "play" catch growing up...everyone always said have a catch...
I would have lost it too. 😭
❤Kevin tu es un très bon acteur mon acteur préféré i love you Kevin un homme qui me plaît ❤️💕💘💝👍
Field of dream was amazing movie. ALL TIME favorite. My dad passing away changed that movie forever for me.
You know what I heard? I heard that loosing a parent makes you grieve not for a moment but for the rest of your life and I still have both of my parents, no brothers or sisters. I hope I'm dead wrong
Every Kevin Costner film is memorable, such a great man and natural actor. My favourite.
My two faves was dww, body guard, the coast guard movie, tombstone, water world oh and the rest of the movies as well....
I was wondering why he didn't mention JFK. I thought that was his best performance, along with Bull Durham. Imho.
Kevin Costner. His great strength is being down to earth and not believing in making any fuss about himself.
Bravo!
That line from Field of Dreams makes me cry every time I watch it
Field of dreams always makes me cry
I do not know why but for some reason Kevin Costner is pretty undervalued these days.

He was "different" even when he tried not to be.
Just seems like his mid-late 90s flops made a big impact. I always enjoy a good Costner movie. He had a special charisma.
Well considering his biggest hit was 1990, dances with wolves, not all young people these days will understand.
I think its at his discretion. I think he shuns the limelight like the gentleman that he is. Revenge was GREAT 👍 agreed.
well... i don't really put a whole lot of stock in what young people think anyway. what they usually say is 'oh that movie is just too old' or some other ignorant nonsense. Can lead them to water, can't make em drink. Their loss
Hell yes the final shootout in Open Range! Definitely one of the best Western shootouts of all time.
So many great roles in wonderful movies. All so watchable, and more than once, and that is uncommen. Loved him in Silverado.
K.C. you are a great actor love your movies and musician
Kevin Costner was the first real superhero for me. In the early 90s with Robin Hood POT and the Bodyguard and as a 7-9 year old thought he could do anything. A traditional leading man you don’t see too much of now
I love this mans movies. Not all but the ones he is leading role, he was brilliant.

If enjoyed this interview thuraley,Kevin u do great interviews ❤❤❤❤
I will forever watch anything Costner
Weird. I've never thought of this before, but between Silverado, Dances With Wolves, and Open Range, Kevin Costner is in my favorite Westerns.
Sage Eidolon Silverado is so good.
Open Range has the best gunfight scene of all westerns, IMO.
Great western Silverado.
Amazing actor! Respect!! 🇱🇷
Dances with wolves was one of my favorite movies.
Best actor he ever worked with , he once said Hackman and another time said Lancaster. All great choices.
This wonderfull man has so much care for a lot of things and people he shouldnt be alone😢
Love Costner movies from the 80s. Especially, Fandango, early 80s, a relatively unknown but great coming of age film.
I LOVE Fandango! Found it when I was in college, and my friends and watched it over and over
He had some GREAT stories and is a fine story-teller. I enjoyed this.
All his roles where great!!😉👍
Janet Montano what do you mean? They’re all right here. Psh
One of the more underrated actors
Ever
I saw “For love of the Game” in the theatre when I first joined the navy. Great movie but for some reason I never watched it again until last August when I retired. Hit me like a tone of bricks. Great job Costner!

Some straight up honesty there. Enjoyed it.

American Flyers is vastly underrated!
Bruh, I don't think those actors would mind too much. I mean come on it's Sean Connery.
Dances with Wolves was phenomenal, btw, in my mind his best.
Add, Burt Lancaster and James Earl Jones, to that list.
"Ya wanna have a catch?" and I was all teared up...
I fell in love with him in American flyers, long before anyone had heard of him.

Open Range is one of the best, so yes please, more westerns.
Darrell Hart Fantastic western, two great actors Costner and Duvall, don't get much better than that...
Great movie
I still love Field of Dreams..love it
Bull Durham was his best movie, in my opinion. I also lived in Durham for four years and went to countless games at the old DAP. Just a fantastic place to see a game.
Fandango is in my all time top 5 favorite films.
Legend.
No way out was great
True that ✔️
I don't like Sean young (think she's Daffy) but I've been meaning to see it.
I suoi film sono piedi di contenuti, valori, messaggi, storia, estetica. ❤❤❤❤❤
All great movies but never mentioned my favourite Wyatt Earp it's an incredible movie and over 3 hours long.
Gary Murtagh it's a snoozer. Dennis Quaid was good though
@@Abr022575 never a snoozer for me absolutely love the movie, have you watched Hatfield's and McCoys another great mini series.
Wyatt Earp is my favorite as well. Good call.
@@Abr022575 Same. Not much good about it. I love Costner but meh on that movie. Tombstone on the other hand....
Problem with Wyatt Earp is it came out when Tombstone did and that was a classic, huckleberry
Wyatt Earp, Bull Durham, The Untouchables. Absolutely incredible.
Wyatt Earp was pretty bad. It was WAY too long, and nothing CLOSE to Tombstone. Open Range is fantastic though as is Field of Dreams and Dances with Wolves.

PHS WoodWorks Same here, Duval was great along side Kevin, Annette Bennington, and the bad guy too. Don’t recall his name. The old Irish Guy.
Robin Hood and Tin Cup. Two of the best movies of all time.
Happy 65th Birthday Kevin Costner
This man is a National Treasure. A pleasure to watch anything he's in. Sure, he has a clunker once in a while. But he's one of the best ever.
Oh please oh please do more westerns! Open Range is one of my all time favorite westerns, one of my all time favorite movies, so good.
This whole thing was really Good !!!
Kevin I hope you know how much I love you❤
The dude is getting old and to be a witness to it is sad and oddly beautiful at the same time.
Side note: can we talk about Neil Young rambling out to a field and feeding oreos to his pet buffalo?
That story is so Neil. I can just imagine him telling people: "If you want this buffalo to come to ya, ya gotta shake this box of Oreos:...

Recently discovered Revenge. Great film!
Another Costner must see is "The War". Good story with a "Stand By Me" feel.
It is amazing that in this really good interview of Kevin Costner that he says the biggest star he ever worked with was Sean Connery. He forgot that he also worked with Burt Lancaster ("Field of Dreams") who was during his film career an equally big star if not a bigger star than Sean Connery !

Regarder un de ses films cest une joie pour moi❤cest un excellent acteur❤je l aime beaucoup❤
ケビンコスナー大好きな俳優さん!
Open Range DID have the best movie shootout ever
Better than Heat? I gotta see it (plus being a Costner fan, I should have already)
Micky C man I forgot that one but yeah watch Open Range so good
I don’t believe so
Both are excellent, only problem with open range was of course all the fanboy critics who check for errors complain about unlimited ammo, other than that it's hard to compare the two because they are such different movies
Mr Costner do you have any requirements or places we can't go with this interview?
"Yes, don't ask me about Water World or The Postman"
I was thinking the same thing. :)
Postman was ok
even Waterworld had it merits
@@MrTallpoppy58 Yeah, they weren't totally bad movies.
@@MrTallpoppy58 Honestly I liked both movies, there's a reason we go to movies ...to escape reality😉 Fiction is fun.
Adrian Tallpoppy my dad sister and I use to watch water world all the time when I was growing up
Fandango. Is. The. SHIT! I love it; one of my favorite all-time movies.
Agreed 100%!!
Definite A plus list actor.
Kevin should have mentioned his role in NO WAY OUT, which is one of his best films IMO. It also showed his sexy vulnerable side and had you rooting for him until the end. Also had the unexpected twist at the end of the movie.
Agreed. That was a great movie. Gene Hackman, Will Patton, Fred Thompson. Great cast.
i loved fandango!!!
He was great in Silverado
I agree it's the movie I discovered Kevin Costner.
One of the best westerns ever made
deltafour1212 Agreed. Good call.
That was my favorite. When I was little I'd pretend to do the scene with the two handed 90 degree angle shot to get two bad guys at once.
Glad you said that. His energy and naturalism in it is ideal and he actually seemed like Scott Glenn's
younger brother
I may be the only one but I loved Waterworld and The Postman. They surely were not flops to me.But I would watch anything with Kevin in it.
Oreo`s are addictive to every living species. Buffalo`s love them too.

I own every one of these movies!!
Of all his movies, "Dance with Wolves" was the most powerful and memorable film for me besides "Field of Dream". "Dance with Wolves" in my opinion, is among up there with the top best classics like "Shawashank Redemption" and "Forest Gump".
Field of Dreams: “It you build it, he will come” 😭😭😭😭 my favorite movie besides FOD is The Untouchables, love him in Yellowstone ⚾️🐄🐂🐎🤠
3000 miles to Graceland! Costner as a villian just works.
The "Open Range" shootout was one of (if not the most) realistic western movie shootouts of all time.
he is the best actor
❤great movie
'The Upside of Anger' is a great film. Fun Fact - Costner played Alex, the college friend whose suicide triggered the reunion of the "The Big Chill."
Costner filmed a flashback scene - a '60s Thanksgiving dinner with the entire cast - which was to end the film, but director Lawrence Kasdan cut it.
No 5000 Miles to Graceland?? ; )
I think A Perfect World should have made the list.
Kevin Costner great actor
Mr Brooks, Perfect World?
I didn't like me. Br
Oh, I didn't like me. M. I didn't like m. R. Brooks. It was not Kevin costner's type of role.
Missed three of his best movies: (1) Silverado (which is the best), (2) No Way Out, & (3) Mr. Brooks.
Waterworld?! The postman? The War
Those 3 were pretty damn good especially waterworld
INFOCOOL Sum it up, just about all his movies rocked. My favorite though, “BULL DURHAM” ! “Hit the Mascot”, best part!
