This song has helped me over and over and over again through the hardest times in my life. I’m a suicide attempt survivor and this song is so meaningful and has helped keep a positive outlook whenever my depression returns. I’m not perfect, and that’s ok. It’s fine. I love this message. I hope I can thank Tim in person one day.
Ahh. I watched the original DVD when it was released after buying new 5.1 speakers. What a beautiful ride. Deep tickling of my funny bone... loud, sudden outbursts of laughter. Then this one, just transfixed and slowly crying alone. I slept like a baby that night 😄❤
I'm not sure, even with this song there may be things that could be better. But it seems like it's very much his. (Edit: But yeah, it's pretty much perfect)
When it got to the part of the song where he said his body was 31.6 years old I immediately looked how old he is now to find out this song is now 17 years old, bloody hell!
The line about my body, always makes me burst in to tears. But they're nice tears, healing tears. Thanks Tim, for making me laugh, and think, for the best part of the last 2 decades.
This a beautiful song. I prefer this stripped back version over the fully orchestrated arrangement. I relate to the sentiment still after all the years since I first heard it. Beautiful.
These words brought me comfort upon my exit, at age 31, from the high-demand religion I was born into. Losing belief in everything I thought I ever knew was scary and disorienting and this song helped me to realize that the earth was still rotating, that the sun would continue to come up, and that actually everything was not going to fall apart.
Anyone who can make me laugh and cry simultaneously is a beautiful person in my world. Thanks, Tim! For me you're a great reflection of what it is to try and be human. Mad respect!
Back in 2011 I used this song as one of my reference texts for HSC English. Can’t remember what exactly I had to say about it at the time, but I remember even at 18 I knew it was a beautiful song that had special things to say. Now at 30 years and 4 months old it still hits hard every time.
I still remember the first time I heard this song. Some of my family were watching it on TV. I just stood there fixated though the whole thing and my eyes filled with tears. I wasn't expecting it at all. It's incredibly beautiful ❤️
Even after all these years, I still cry EVERY time I listen to this song. It just feels like a hug to me and I can't think of any other song that makes me feel so comfortable about being myself. Thank you Tim Minchin!
I’ve never left a TH-cam comment before on anything ever and this isn’t my music genre but it ended up in my queue somehow and I became entranced. Not only with the song, but his voice and it’s been on repeat since. I could feel it. It was so real. It is every time I hear it. ❤❤❤❤❤
jesus I used to have a rip of this on my ipod and watch it in maths class and waiting for the bus, along with a bunch of other classics, tony the fish anyone lol. slapped at 13 still slaps at 29 Tim, all the love
Hard to explain. He's His style is fairly unique but it's hard not to love Tim himself the moment you see him. All of his comedy is relatable no matter who you are. Great live as well.
@karlb10024 Be sure that you've nailed the sentiment of his materials as I perceive it. Seems to me Tim would pose that very same question himself, even though I am confident he's that good an entertainer.
Heard this song for the first time today. I read through the comments and I'm glad that it had such a great and positive influence on what seems so many. I'm glad we're all here today and share our memories of this song.
This song never fails to get me. To me, it encapsulates so perfectly how life is so contradictory. At the same time wonderful and terrible. Loving and hateful sad and happy, in constant conflict in an imperfect system yet perfection and peace is what we all seek as we see it. All thanks to our wonderful f'd up 🧠
A great song with great lyrics that might not be perfect, but they're his and they're really, really good. One of his best and while it has meaning for so many people, it takes me back to the comedy festival when I first saw him with his hair and bare feet and brilliant songs. How lucky I've been to see so many great talents! Still love the white wine song better.
This has been a favourite song of mine for a while now. When I’m being particularly hard on myself I listen to it a few times. Sing along loudly. Helps me bring myself back to center. Remind me to just be, and it’s okay
I listened to this several times over the years and it never fails to bring a tear to my eye... eyes... and the brain behind those where my thoughts live. You're truly one of the greatest poets of our current generation. THANK YOU.
I love this person so much. I saw this in my sub feed and i was like...im not in the mood for some jokes. But i clicked it anyway...and gotta say. I got good taste
Not a day goes when I don't listen to, or play your music myself. Thank you so much for the beautiful, touching melodies, lyrics that twist my tongue and heart, and the craziest chord progressions that made me want to get serious about my dabbling with the piano.
Ive been a fan of Tim Minchin since i was a kid now im 23 but when i was 19 i actually met him just by random chance and not only is he extremely talented he was so genuine and down to earth i even got a photo with him
The AC must have been broken in the Opera House that day. Really love this song. Always thought it must have been the inspiration for "My House" from Matilda?
Pretty special song! 😁 Sorry...hadn't heard of you as I threw tv out about 19 years ago and mainstream media leaves me cold....but on the strength of this song I will now stalk you for a short while until I have a word with myself 😁😂 Seriously though...great song 💜
A beautiful and wonderful man, obviously only as far as one could perceive him from his songs and appearances. I've never seen this version of the song until today, but comparing it to your shattering performance on The Side Show, uploaded in 2010, it feels much colder and brings this immensely harsher feeling to the song. Your face feels like its battling tears while you sang, and echoes a far more desperately sad expression of song that feels as though it is required to be expressed to feel understood in that moment. Your other performance hearkens these tones but I believe your other performance is my favourite as i feel more a message of processing this immense bittersweet sadness, hope and eventually true understanding radiating the song, rather than this darker tone of it, but i value both. Your cliche line in that version has struck me harder than many things, accompanied by the disarming first part of the last verse, and later the swelling final chorus has, and will always continue to stick in my mind. This and the whole of the Australian 'Ready For This?' DVD version of White Wine In The Sun. Thank you for that. I will value it all for a hopefully long time to come.

I so very much hope you can to! ❤❤ hugs my friend! Fellow suicide survivor x 4
You're not alone with this sentiment.
I'm glad you survived. I'm also a suicide survivor
Hugs to you. Been there too and survived and this song does give a beautiful message 💜
I'm a fellow survivor, and you're so right about this song....
Like so much of Tim's writing, it has many levels to it.
Sending hugs xxoo
This is my all time favorite Tim Minchin song. It is so special and I relate to so much of it on so many levels. It’s not perfect but it’s fine.
I remember when it was first played on Spicks and Specks. I needed a few tissues.
It's definitely one of his best.
Ahh. I watched the original DVD when it was released after buying new 5.1 speakers. What a beautiful ride. Deep tickling of my funny bone... loud, sudden outbursts of laughter. Then this one, just transfixed and slowly crying alone. I slept like a baby that night 😄❤
It is one of my favourite too. It inspired a poem about my failed assistance dog. He's not perfect, but he's mine.
Same here.
ironically, this song is perfect

Love you Tim. Because of the brain you live in, you make the earth you live in more beautiful for the rest of us to live in

Well said

I've heard this song dozens of times, and it always brings tears to my eyes.
It's a beautiful song.
This a beautiful song.

Exactly the same! Includes the country verse. I love it so much!

Your comment made me tear up, thank you for sharing that ❤️
I'm so happy for you that you got out!
I hope that Tim realizes all the positive effects he has on so many people around the world! ❤
unironically probably but almost certainly my favourite song ever written. glad to have fallen upon it again

That’s so humbling in the healthiest possible way. Thank you, Tim
Tim Minchin makes the world better. Such a deep song from this brilliant comedy mastermind.
I love this song so much that I rewrote the lyrics to be about my cat, & I sing it all the time 😅
What are they, dear? I want to sing too 🐈
This song saved my life in my 20s.
This song never gets old! And neither does Tim! He's forever 31 and 6 months old!
Spent the past year singing this song to my song as a lullaby and now at 16 months he is giggling and watching with me. Thanks for the memories Tim ❤
I cannot express, just how much I truly love this song.
“Perfect is the enemy of good” ❤

I still think about this song quite often. Like Tim's brain, my dog is made of love. 100%
As incredible as it may look, this song taught me to be kind to myself. Thank you, Tim. Regards from Brazil 🇧🇷.
My favorite song at better than 240p. Its not even my birthday. Thank you, Tim.

Every few years, I find myself coming back to the comforts of this song. Thank you for over a decade of tranquility, Tim.
To see that untamed mane of hair brings back memories. Nothing much has changed; yet, so much has changed. For the better I hope.
I only discovered Tim about two months ago, the highlight of my year. I don't know if that means have a dull life or he's that good an entertainer.
Hard to explain. He's His style is fairly unique but it's hard not to love Tim himself the moment you see him. All of his comedy is relatable no matter who you are.
