    I’ve read his second appearance online, and it’s actually a two parter, and I do like the way Michael Fleisher wrote Sterling, it’s a fun romp, and I highly recommend it especially if you’re a fan of the crime doctor.

    Here is an idea for Silversmith: how about he was a person who was always pushed to be the best by his parents, and while he was very skilled at a variety of fields, he was always second in all of them to someone or another. Since silver is given to second place winners that could be where the silver obsession comes from. I would also play him as a rival to The Penguin because he wants to the best crime boss in Gotham but old Oswald beats him at that.

      There is an Anthony Horowitz novel with a similar villain who is embittered by always being second. He only appeared once though, so the potential of the concept isn't realised quite as well as it could be in comics.

    Sterling Silversmith sounds like an okay villain. I didn’t even know about this guy before I saw this video years ago. I like this guy fine, but I can’t say I’m surprised that he fell into obscurity. He was sort of generic. His silver gimmick is unique and stands out in the rogues gallery. If is brought back, I’d make him more of a secondary villain. Maybe he works for someone like the Great White Shark. Batman would meet him while investigating the Shark’s smuggling ring. And then we see his origin: His father invested all his money in silver, but he died, and Sterling promised him that he would make the silver valuable on his deathbed. He worked for the Shark, smuggling silver statues to add to his silver empire. Then he plans Goldfinger-type schemes, like maybe radiating gold by blowing up Doctor Phosphorus. This would make him sort of sympathetic but also a credible threat to Batman. You could also use him in more small roles and cameos if he works for the other Gotham mobsters.

    I have never heard of silversmith until today. And now I know why. The dee twins and Magpie may be obscure, but they have more recognition than Mr. Silver here.
    Before a go, I have something to ask. Rogues, I know you are a huge batman fan, but have you considered doing more videos on villains from across the DC universe? You are already doing videos on Underrated rogues, why not do videos on other big dc villains, like SInestro, the Royal Flush gang and Killer Frost?
    If you don't want to, that's fine. I am just asking since you like to mix things up every now and then.

    The thing I liked about Silversmith was, that instead of putting Batman in a deathtrap, he had his henchmen tie Batman to a chair and Silversmith was just going to Batman in the head! No fuss! ,No muss, just a simple shot to the head!! Batman distracted him and escaped from chair, in front of enraged Silversmith!!

    I think the reason he's so forgotten is because he's so generic. A lot of forgotten Batman villains have SOME things to remember them by. Silver has...nothing.
    But I think there's something someone creative can do with him.

      @@mr.rogues4145 i have an idea for a reimagining of sterling, make him the childhood best friend of Anthony lupus, it could be a trilogy og sorts, wherein sterling is more of a anti hero decending from a long line of werewolf hunters or monster hunters in general, Who gets the news of a series of bestial killings in gotham and investigates only to discover that the werewolf is in fact his childhood friend Anthony, then the second part could be about his dilemma of having to choose to kill his friend, confronting him once or twice but can not bring himself to do it and the third could be him deciding to finally put poor lupus out of his misery and going after Milo as well for damning his friend to this horrible fate

    I don't have much to say this time (for once :P ) except good video. I have the Crime Doctor two-parter he appears in, and yeah, I enjoyed the parts that dealt with him, and would love to see him again, but I'm so much more heart-broken about the Spook not mattering anymore, or Signalman, or... Well, basically every villain, more than I am about Silversmith. He's not bad at all, but just not nearly as memorable as most (probably due to a lack of a costume, lol).

    I think the kinda obvious thing would be to have his silver obsession/gimmick be directly related to the superstitious belief that silver can be used to combat malevolent supernatural creatures most notably vampires (of which Batman resembles). Maybe I’d have it that silversmith comes from a long line of hunters who specialize in ridding the world of vampires and werewolves and other such creatures, hence the silver gimmick. And that could not only explain his combat with the Batman but you could also loop in other characters such as Anthony lupus, the mad monk, and even maybe Dracula. Just a fun thought I had. I’d love to hear other people’s ideas

    I certainly think Sterling makes for an interesting rogue. He's basically like Orrick Goldfinger from James Bond, except of course his obsession is silver rather than gold.
    I definitely agree they could do a better job at telling better stories about him though. Goldfinger for example wanted to blow up Fort Knox in order to increase the value of his own stash of gold. Perhaps, like you said, he could come up with a similar scheme to decrease the value of gold thus increasing the value of silver, especially HIS silver.

    Silversmith could be interesting, but not in his current state. Keep the arsenal of weapons, but ditch everything else. Maybe he could be an old-fashioned inventor under the payroll of the Penguin who specializes in weaponry made out of silver?

    • @j.j.hatter8444
      @j.j.hatter8444 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That's a possibility. Or perhaps you could go the Goldfinger route? In the book, he tried to rob Fort Knox; in the movie, he instead tries to radiate all the gold in Fort Knox, so that his own gold stores will become much more valuable. Maybe Sterling could do something like that; he's already somewhat Bond-Villain-esque, in my opinion, so why not just go ahead and do something inspired by Bond?

    Sterling Silversmith is an intriguing rogue. I still don't know why Silver should have a high advancement to topple Gold. Like, I know silver has a big experience in some metal things, like some rocks, or parts of tools like hammers, axes, or wreches, plus on high mountains. Plus It's a little value than Gold has on its big impact for the world. I wished BTAS could've put this character in, and give him a compelling reason for his purpose to let Silver stand out the most.
