Tally Man's got potential. To be honest I'm shocked that he never appeared in BATB or Beware the Batman, particularly the latter, seeing as that show's entire appeal was it's attempt to spotlight and revamp some of the lesser-known Bat-Rogues like Humpty Dumpty, Magpie, Silver Monkey, Anarky and even a fascinating reinvention of Cyther. It seems like a near-perfect fit to me.
Exactly. They had room for so many villains, from Planet Master to King Kraken to every single 1960s TV Batman Villain, but never got around to Tally Man? It just feels odd to me.
I think it was because Tally Man was specifically designed to be an incredibly dark and twisted villain, which would've conflicted with the show's campy Silver Age tone.

You know, I just meowed this song, and it made me think of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow where this song made an appearance. Since my husband didn’t recognize the song from my kitty version, I searched for the legends version and played it for him and he instantly recognized it afterwards. Then I saw this video and I thought “maybe there’s a connection?” I was so disappointed when there was no mention of it until I saw this old comment.
Who cares? He was a villain that attacked when Bruce was down! His design is top notch and is threatening, and has even been refrenced in Arkham Knight. He is a whisper and is feared much like Batman
The Tally Man really seems like a pretty fascinating character and villain I wish he appeared more, maybe if he reappears.. maybe they could do something like combine both Tally-Men. The black man who appeared later could be the alter-ego of said Tally-Man, and the Tally-Man of the past could be his super-villain costume he uses when committing crimes and 'collecting debts'.
The Tally Man reminds me of Jack before he became the Joker in the 1989 film. Like if the Ace Chemicals heist was a success, jack realized he liked manual work like that, and started to wear a mask.
Honestly, I really like this villain I have both of his appearances, and his designs is pure eye-candy imo, if they do eventually bring them back, I kind of want them to give them a real name.

It's a shame, too; this guy seems like a pretty interesting baddy, in my opinion. It would be nice to see him pop up in other media. "The Batman Adventures" were great, I remember that they included rogues not from Batman:TAS, like Black Mask & Anarky (well more like a anti-villain, or anti-hero, not sure of the difference ^^') The Tally Man did a nice impression of me (I've only read his stint against Azrael, in which he gets butchered at the end, and his come-back after that), would have been great to see him in TBA. I've been looking online for an information I can't find, I recall that TBA created a new Batman rogue, a young hippie looking dude with John Lennon glasses, IIRC he even call everyone "dude" who kinda stole the Riddler's shtick and bragged about it. he was in at least 2 stories; his battle against Batman, and the one against Riddler, who hates him. His forte was informatique since he is a genius, but he could throw a bit... He had a very short and simple name, damn it's bugging me so bad and Google isn't helpful for once... (my favorite Nygma story ever if from that collection, when he wants to retire and decides to hit a few banks without giving Batman any clues this time, that he is done wth it... but it obviously doesn't go well, and we get a pretty emotional moment at the end... "Nygma? Are you... alright?" (with the "worried Bats eyes") "No Batman, no I'm not alright. I think I may actually be crazy... drop me at Arkham, please..."
Ive read the Tally Man stories recently, ive always been interested when i first seen his design, just like you. He looks so awesome!! Tally man ahould have been in face the face instead of the second, so i agree with you 100% on this video. Hes awesome and should come back
I have Tally Man in #19 (not part two, though), and Shadow of the Bat #34. I loved Tally Man, and found him to have an extremely interesting character design, and even better, a penciller who drew him to make him just so visibly distinctive. I've always loved this character, and always wished he was more well known.

It's amazing how underused this Character is. Yes he's a little One Note as "Just a Debt collector" But that scene where Azrael beats him nearly to death is always mentioned in summaries of the Batman mythos as the moment where Azrael goes to far and Gotham turns against him in his tenure as the Batman. He should probably be given a few more stories honestly, maybe some revenge stories against the greater Bat-Family, get him involved in a Gotham City Mob War between two sides that he's worked for before and determine where his loyalties lie. Anything! The Tally Man is always mentioned as this turning point of Jean Paul Valley's Batman tenure and yet nothing else was done with him to capitalize on that!
I'd be interested to see a Tally Man Victor Zsasz story. That both men want to kill the same figure person and go through anyone to get to them causing a serial murder spree that Batman has to put a stop to.

I think the main reason he didn't get much love was he had nothing to do with bananas. I mean come on! It's right there in the song! Come Mr. Tallyman, Tally me bananas! Give the mana some bananas to count and he'll be back.
Because of his appearance there should be some sort of supernatural aspect to this character. How about when he’s in jail he makes a deal with the demon Neron (or some other demon or whatever) to become powerful enough to escape jail and kill the mobsters. In return he would have to be Neron’s right hand man, but he refused and overpowered Neron in a fight. Neron then reveals to the man that his powers are fueled by human souls and that he needs to keep collecting souls to stay powerful, something Neron can provide for the man but since he rebelled Neron will wait until his power runs out then he’ll kill the man. That’s why the Tally Man is an assassin. He’s killing people, mainly people who are criminals and killers, to collect their souls so Neron (or like I said any other demon, even a made up one) can back keep his distance.
When I read the original arc for this character, he did what he seemed to do for me, make me more interested. He was awesome, creepy and cool looking. He needs to come back! Awesome video!
I'd bring him back in a fake out story, something like high ranking mob bosses being killed with a tally marked into each of their chests, Bruce thinks it's zsasz but nope it's actually the tally man. You could make it like these mob bosses where involved with the debt his mother was in. Maybe have zsasz be targeted by the tally man leading to the reveal?

He always stood out as such a sinister and creepy character, definitely fitting as a Batman villain and I was disappointed to find out he had little appearances after, I’d love to see him again. Tally Man is such an underrated rogue. His first design was great and badass. I feel sorry for this guy for losing his mom and gets sent into prison, his history is so tragic. He looks like a halloween rogue in my opinion. It's also a shame how he vanished into thin air, and hasn't returned, nor has he'd been shown in any other Batman media outside comics, much like other forgotten rogues. In my opinion, Tally Man is such an underrated Batman villain, and deserves more treatment as other forgotten rogues do.

The problems with Tally are (1) he looks a little TOO much like Joker and Scarecrow jumped into a teleporter beam together, and (2) the horrible backstory's the only thing that really sets him apart. It's really way too nasty for most cartoon venues (and let's face it, DC is a Warners commodity now) plus nobody wants to have to retell it over and again.

Tally Man has a great design, but unlike the other popular Bat-Rogues, he doesn't really have an interesting gimmick. Joker has his clown-theme, gadgets, & zany-chaotic personality. Penguin has his penguin-theme, trick umbrellas, & is a corrupt businessman w/ ties to the Waynes. Riddler has his riddles, imaginative gadgets/puzzles & need to prove his intellectual superiority.
I had an idea for a story where Zsasz goes after Tally Man to claim the name of Tally Man. And another where Zsasz has an encounter with Firefly that leaves him burned and messes up his tally count.

I though he was pretty cool,, cocky enhanced young mafia dude but can back his shitalk working as a bodyguard for Lew Moxon but the The story arcs he appears in were pretty good, he had some entertaining fights with Batman, Catwoman, Batgirl and Deadshot. One of the very memorable "elite mook making it personal with the hero" stories, it's just too bad he shaved his awesome hair in his last appearance ^^ Mr Zeiss looked like Onyx to me in a lot of panels, that was weird. /rant
I love the Bat-rogues, but, admit I am less big on the 'real name unknown' characters. It's like they had a cool idea for a character, but couldn't be bothered to flesh it out with more details.
His name is Johnny Lynx, and he appeared in Batman: Shadow of the Bat #42 (September 1995). I will say, I didn't love the issue myself, or at least that plot point, but I'm doing a re-reading of my collection, and maybe I'll feel different once I read it again. But yeah, that's who it is.
A debt collector villain would honestly fit in well with Batman's Rogues. The kind of villain that mob bosses and other crime lords would hire to collect debts or collect by killing the people who fail to pay.
It'd be cool seeing this guy as a recurring rogue whose services are enlisted by various villains in Gotham. Not necessarily a menace to society ready to strike at any moment, but one who shows up like some kind of eldritch figure at your doorstep if you haven't been paying what you owe.
This is an unpopular opinion, but Tally Man honestly has one of the best origin stories of any Batman rogue. You feel bad for him, but at the same time, he’s a murderer and is pretty horrible of a person. I also think his design is really fascinating and how he appears incredibly tall.

This is the most tragic villain I have ever seen, I mean don't get me wrong mr freeze, killer croc, penguin, mad hatter and clay face origins are sad but this is worse.

Tally Man has a great design, but unlike the other popular Bat-Rogues, he doesn't really have an interesting gimmick. Joker has his clown-theme, gadgets, & zany-chaotic personality. Penguin has his penguin-theme, trick umbrellas, & is a corrupt businessman w/ ties to the Waynes. Riddler has his riddles, imaginative gadgets/puzzles & need to prove his intellectual superiority.

I rember him from the azrael story, he had a quite interesting design.
Also Tally man was referenced in Arkham Knight at the diner in the beginning !
One of my favorite Batman villains
I had an idea for a story where Zsasz goes after Tally Man to claim the name of Tally Man. And another where Zsasz has an encounter with Firefly that leaves him burned and messes up his tally count.

Why does he remind me of a spawn character maybe it's his appearence for example the panel here 4:04 somone could splice that into a spawn comic and it would more or less fit

No way haha that would be great. I though he was pretty cool,, cocky enhanced young mafia dude but can back his shitalk working as a bodyguard for Lew Moxon but the The story arcs he appears in were pretty good, he had some entertaining fights with Batman, Catwoman, Batgirl and Deadshot.
One of the very memorable "elite mook making it personal with the hero" stories, it's just too bad he shaved his awesome hair in his last appearance ^^
Mr Zeiss looked like Onyx to me in a lot of panels, that was weird.

Looks like a dapper version of Freak from "Spawn".
I love the Bat-rogues, but, admit I am less big on the 'real name unknown' characters. It's like they had a cool idea for a character, but couldn't be bothered to flesh it out with more details.

His name is Johnny Lynx, and he appeared in Batman: Shadow of the Bat #42 (September 1995). I will say, I didn't love the issue myself, or at least that plot point, but I'm doing a re-reading of my collection, and maybe I'll feel different once I read it again. But yeah, that's who it is.
A debt collector villain would honestly fit in well with Batman's Rogues. The kind of villain that mob bosses and other crime lords would hire to collect debts or collect by killing the people who fail to pay.
It'd be cool seeing this guy as a recurring rogue whose services are enlisted by various villains in Gotham. Not necessarily a menace to society ready to strike at any moment, but one who shows up like some kind of eldritch figure at your doorstep if you haven't been paying what you owe.

This is an unpopular opinion, but Tally Man honestly has one of the best origin stories of any Batman rogue. You feel bad for him, but at the same time, he’s a murderer and is pretty horrible of a person. I also think his design is really fascinating and how he appears incredibly tall.
He needs to appear in animation or a video game to further his popularity

This is the most tragic villain I have ever seen, I mean don't get me wrong mr freeze, killer croc, penguin, mad hatter and clay face origins are sad but this is worse.
The Tallyman is actually really cool and should be in Batman: The Animated Series. Along with the third Arkham game.
