    The Wrath looks like the kind of thing someone would design if they wanted to draw/write Batman comic books, but don't want to get sued.

    I think the reason why Reverse Flash and Bizarro work so well while characters like Wrath don't stick around is because they're dark reflections of bright, hopeful heroes. Batman is already dark and brooding, and you can't really corrupt darkness with more darkness.

    It's a shame. Everyone forgets Killer Moth is the original Anti-Batman, but everu one forgets that and ever since then we have gotten tons of other Anti-Batmen... I wonder what would have happened if they kept Moth as the Sole Anti-Batman

    I think The Wrath is pretty cool and him having his own Robin (Scorn) is a cool idea too but out of all the "Anti-Batman" characters that have sprung up I find him the least interesting. Prometheus is essentially a better Wrath and a much bigger threat as he's essentially a one man army (the guy took out the entire Justice League for crying out loud), Hush is more of a dark reflection of Bruce Wayne then Bats but that's pretty interesting on it's own and Killer Moth was the original Anti-Batman who, I think did the concept the best, coming to the aid of criminals like an actual reverse Batman and doing so for both greed and competition with Batman. I find all of these characters to be more eye-catching then Wrath.
    Overall I think Killer Moth is the best Anti-Batman for the reasons I said previously. I also gotta give him plenty of pity points seeing how much he's been shit on over the years and in despite of how much he had going for him. Mothy really seemed like he was being set up to be one of Batman's greatest enemies, a dark (yet obscenely colorful looking) reflection of Batman who undoes all of the work the caped crusader has done for profit and to make a point is a concept to good to shit on.

      Honestly he’s a better version of Prometheus. Because he has more of a thematic and spiritual connection to Batman. Plus the fact that he is quite literally Batman’s opposite and Wrath figured out his opponent’s identity and Batman didn’t even know anything about him!

    Every time you upload a video, I know I'm in for an enjoyable experience. You raise a good point about the Dark Mirror Batman villains and how they've never caught on, I guess there just isn't much of a demand for those kinds of villains in Bruce's corner of the DCU. While the Wrath is probably the best Ant-Batman in a technical sense, I've always had a soft-spot for Prometheus though I personally consider him more of Justice League villain. Kudos on your redesign idea too.
    I'm sorry to hear about the stress, Please take as much time as you need and upload whenever you wish. Your videos are worth the wait, at least to me. I'm also sorry you didn't get as many reviews as you've hoped but I am looking forward to your videos on the TV rogues. To answer your Top 5 question, I'd have to say Black Mask, mainly because I'm curious of what they'd be.

    Maybe if acted like Superman in public, but had the moral compass of The Joker it would work. Reversing Batman's Rule of Fear with a Compassionate Bear trap. That could work nicely and it wouldn't be immediately obvious the guy was evil, then it would be a nice twist. Assassin vs Detective , Planning tragedies or murders while Batman solves them. A bit weak, but usable . Ras' A Ghoul already does this , so not a strong option. Reversing the Color scheme , This could actually work with the reverse mentality. Using colors that invoke feelings of trust and friendship rather than fear and intimidation.

    Two reasons why I think the Wrath (or any Anti-Batman for that matter) never really caught on:
    1) Batman already has the most popular cast of villains in all of comics, that Wrath simply gets lost amongst the crowd.
    2) His origin is way to obvious. Sure Reverse Flash/Professor Zoom has the exact power set as Flash, but his origin is completely different. Zoom was a Flash fanatic from the future who had a mental breakdown after discovering he’s destined to become a villain to his idol.

    I love Wrath because he is better than Prometheus. Mainly he doesn’t heavily rely on technology like Prometheus and Wrath’s has better reasons to be Batman’s opposite because his origins mirrors Bruce’s, especially when his parents deaths took place on the same night as Thomas and Martha Wayne’s murder.
    I actually like the W as part of his cowl as a mockery of Batman’s suit. And the sense he sees a kindred spirit in The Dark Knight, when he figures out his identity and that they both witnessed their parents gunned down, but took different paths on how to deal with it. If he were modernised and tweaked a bit, he could become one of Batman’s Greatest Enemies!

    I think it'd be more fitting if instead of a regular cop, it was a dirty cop that killed his family. Wrath would then view the entire justice system as corrupt and dirty and him being the only one to expose and truly clean Gotham. Batman would understand his intentions but of course wouldn't approve of his means.

  • @wdcain1
    @wdcain1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +20

    I've always had a soft spot for the Wrath since he is motivated by a mirror tragedy to Bruce. The problem is the comics always had Wrath just be a gun nut who had a hate on for cops. To mirror Batman, just have Wrath also be an innocent kid who lost his loving family to crime. Gotham has a long history of crooked cops so Wrath could have been the DC's version of the Punisher. I even wrote a fanfic just on that premise.

    Purple and red totally go together! just look at magneto. Doctor Bong is also a good example of it used in a comedic villain. Honestly I am surprised it isn't used more often with how aesthetically pleasing those colors look together. The problem with Wrath is that the colors are distributed in a awkward manner that along with the design draws ones eyes towards his crotch. Also the W is very goofy looking.

    • @ninjans1556
      @ninjans1556 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      MANƐSHARK Magneto though is mostly red, with very little purple. It shows him as more sinister and less goofy. Also, Magneto’s not meant to be a character who is shrouded in darkness. But a characters who is basically just evil batman with a costume so easy to notice and so goofy just doesn’t make sense.

    • @MANESHARK
      @MANESHARK 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I want you to right now.. do a google image search of Magneto and tell me again that he has very little purple. As for the color scheme not applying well to the particular character, Your point is completely valid. Maybe if it were a dark violet with a few crimson details, but as it is, the shading and placement of the colors look goofy for this character.

    If you want a really obscure bat rogue, look up “Moon of the wolf” with villain Anthony Lupus, if I’m not mistaken he only appeared on one comic as a werewolf. It was written by Len Wein and I think illustrated by Carmine Infantino, but the story is very well written and drawn for a comic from 1971.

    I like the contrast between the original Wrath and Batman. Bruce's parents were innocent people needlessly killed by a mugger or a hitman who made the hit look like a mugging depending which version of Joe Chill it is and what continuity he's in. Whereas The Wrath's parents were evil criminals deservedly killed in self defence by Gordon. And while Bruce swore to stop what happened to him from ever happening to anyone else ever again The Wrath decided to kill Gordon even though his parents would have killed Gordon if Jim hadn't killed them which suggests Wrath was evil even before his parents got killed.

    Again, I am honestly CRUSHED by the decision to abandon the Batman T.V. Villains idea...but I understand the decision, and this IS your channel, so I will not force the issue myself. I AM looking forward to seeing who your ten favorite villains from the 60s show will be, however; I'm actually looking forward to that more than I am to a video on Gotham. Again, the 60s Villains and I go way back. XD I do want to warn you that with at least a few of the more recurring foes - such as Penguin, Joker, and Catwoman - you may want to watch more than one episode before you cover them. I say this because all three of them, along with a couple of others, actually evolved a lot over the course of the show, in terms of performance. If you want, I can actually suggest a few key episodes/stories to look at, if you like, just so you don't have to watch every single bloody episode those characters appeared in. But, since you may or may not want to do that anyway, that's up to you. (shrugs)
    While I am also sorry to hear you'll be abandoning a particular schedule, I actually completely agree with your reasoning, and once more understand. Just don't LEAVE, that's all I ask; your channel is one of my favorites, and I always look forward to your next bit of content here. XD
    NOW! In regards to the Wrath: I knew about this guy from The Batman, but I didn't even know he was a comic book villain, too! So this was a pleasant learning experience. I have to admit, I think I agree with a lot of your comments and ideas - I guess if I had to choose an "anti-Batman" I'd go with, it would probably be Owlman, but Wrath might be a close second. Your idea of a red-cloaked Batman as an alternate costume is interesting, too. Part of me says that would be too simple, but, to be fair, it's not like the Reverse-Flash has an especially complex costume, so... (shrugs)
    As far as a top five stories list...even though I prefer Man-Bat slightly as a character, I'm going to vote on Black Mask. Why? Simply because I actually haven't read very much of anything with Black Mask; he's yet another case of a character I know more about from other media than the comics themselves. Your lists always give me great "recommended reading" material to turn to. XD

    • @mr.rogues4145
      @mr.rogues4145  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh I was definately planning on watching at least a couple of episodes with each villain. Of course, I don't really have time, nor the desire to watch every single episode of the show, so yes, by all means, do recomend some "key" episodes. It would be very much appreciated! Btw I already know Ed and Pengy will be on the list, thats for sure ;) One question: did Bookworm and False Face only appear in one single episode each? I want to remember you saying that. If so, that'd make things easier for me haha..
      A red bat costume certainly is simple, but I dunno if that isn't just what the character needed. An evil red-suited Batman. I just like the idea.
      Black Mask seems to be the winner already! At the moment I can only think of a couple stories I really like, so I'll have to do a lot of digging.

    • @j.j.hatter8444
      @j.j.hatter8444 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fair enough, regarding the costume concept. And yay for Black Mask!
      False-Face and the Bookworm each appeared in only one episode, yes. The Bookworm was actually slated to return in the third season, but for some reason it never happened, most likely because Roddy McDowall was just too busy at the time. And, of course, since we never got the fourth season, who can say if he ever would have come back?
      As for key episodes, I'll send you a few of my favorites via TH-cam message. :)

    I never liked the idea that Wrath should just be the bat costume with different colours, with Bizzaro and Reverse Flash it makes sense since one is a litteral clone of superman, and the other wanted to be the flash, but Wrath dosent want to be the Reverse batman, he wants to mock him sure, but he's still his own Thing and therefor i believe he should look the part aswell

    The Wrath was a great character, but the retcon in Batman Confidential where he was a copycat rather than someone who developed a nearly identical persona parallel to Batman kinda ruined him. Originally, he was Batman's opposite number, not his copycat. I have no idea why the Batman Confidential issues chose to change that.

    I think the Wrath concept would be interesting if we added more nuance to it.
    1. Don't make the Cop who shot his parents Gordon, let him be a non character like the Wayne's killer.
    2. Don't make Wrath's parents criminals, make them innocents shot wrongly, that would make the story sympathetic and a real challenge to Batman ideologically.
    3. And this would be the biggest controversy of my idea. Make Wrath and his Parents Black, make this a villain created by systemic Racism.

    Don't get me wrong, this is a great video with lots of good info, but I feel like you missed the connection to Year One. In Year One James Gordon is back in Gotham after working in Chicago for 10 years. The reason why he was sent off to Chicago in the first place was because the original Wrath's dad was a crooked cop who was committing a crime when Gordon stumbled across him and shot him in self defense. This was all retconned in Wrath Child. These Wrath comics are some of my favorite Batman stories because of this clever retcon that connects these stories to Year One without contradicting any other stories.

    Definitely think _The Batman's_ version of Wrath is probably the best take on an Anti-Batman without making him a _literal_ evil Batman like Owlman or The Batman who Talks. He's the perfect amalgamation of traits from the other Anti Batmen:
    -The costume design and backstory of the source material, which is a good corruption of the Caped Crusader's backstory while providing a good explanation of his code of ethics.
    -The color scheme of Catman, which contrasts quite well against Batman's more muted ensemble. And it works especially well in the depictions of Batman with a blue cape/cowl, since it provides a classic color contrast.
    -The modus operandi of Killer Moth as a protector of criminals, which is a better foil to Batman's motivations than the source material. Simply making him a serial killer with a hate boner for cops makes him have more in common with the _Punisher_ than Batman.
    Heck, the 2004 version expanded upon the idea by giving him his own Robin, Scorn, with a monochrome color scheme to contrast with Robin's brightly colored ensemble. Not to mention while they make it clear Mallory is nowhere near as smart or rich as Batman, he's no slacker as he's able to figure out Bruce's identity just as quicky as Batman figures his, with the Diabolic Duo raiding the Batcave later in the episode.

    Don’t dig his looks, don’t dig his motivations, don’t dig his origins. I’m very picky when it comes to villains who are suppose to be evil versions of the hero. And wrath really doesn’t meet my criteria at all. I don’t really think Batman needs a mirror match in his rouges anyhow.

    In regards to doppelgangers in comics, would you say Sinestro is a doppelganger of Green Lantern? I mean he use to be a Green Lantern, has a colour-swapped outfit of a Green Lantern uniform, and possesses the same abilities of the Green Lantern e.g. the ring.
    Also would the basic requirements of being a doppelganger would be this?
    - A doppelganger must have the same abilities as it's original counterpart.
    - A doppelganger must look like a twisted version of the hero e.g. deformity, opposite colour scheme, imperfect clone, etc.
    - A doppelganger must be almost identical to the hero but different in one area; villains that share similarities with their heroes do not count, as they have enough differences in their design and personality to be separate entities.

    Firstly I'm sorry your not feeling well. Hopefully you'll recover quickly. As for anti Batman I was thinking about that since seeing your Cavalier video. And I'd like to submit him as the first anti Batman. A socilate playboy, who is greatly effected by movie about swordsmen, but has no tragic past. So instead of becoming a dark avenger who protects the city, he becomes a colorful character who robs it.

    The Wrath would make a lot more sense if it was a full exterior copy of Batman. Imagine a dude who looks like Batman but instead of fighting criminals, shoots cops like deer during hunting season. He could be a mercenary who does it for the money and have a parallel classical background and have a beef with Gordon. Sounds like a great story to me.

    I have an idea, in regards to Wrath's colour scheme. In an earlier video you stated that your favourite colour scheme for Batman is all black, with some dark blue shading. How about for Wrath's colour scheme he wears an all white outfit with some dark red shading?

      I vote for Black Mask, one of my all time favorite villains biased of course because his first appearance was one of my earliest comics. Tom Mandrake's art (his debut on the title.) gave me nightmares! After No Mans Land he became unrecognisable. I would have loved to have seen the 1980s version developed further. I feel that if handled well it would make a compelling stand-alone spin-off. Does anyone else agree?

    1 love your design idea for him the red is a great concept but I feel the grey should be dark grey a pose to batman's light grey a (maybe even a purple symbol and belt to match Bruce's yellow)
    2 sorry about the book I couldn't buy it for myself as I'm tight on cash at the moment but I still plan on getting it when I get the money
    3 glad you'll still do the tv villains even if it is just 2 videos I'm wondering who you see as the major villains
    4 take your time quality of quantity(although do you consider your comic reviews as a main series as you didn't mention it)
    5 black mask(I'm using him in as a villain in my fan fir and want to get his personality down)
    Damn I had a lot to say this time

    • @mr.rogues4145
      @mr.rogues4145  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1. Sure dark grey could work. I'm wondering if the symbol shouldn't also be somehow different; dunno about purple, I mean red and purple just dont go well together.
      2. It's cool, I understand!
      3. Yeah it's gonna be a bit tough to choose which ones to include. Pengy and Ed are guaranteed at least haha.
      4. No, but that doesn't mean I'll never do any comic reviews ever again. Just not very often.
      5. Most people seem to want ol' Masky, so it appears to be decided already ;)

    Given the relationship that Commissioner Gordon has with his son James Worthington Gordon Jr - J.J. Gordon, it would make sense if they had Him don the Wrath costume and use it to aid criminals in escaping from the cops, as a way to torment his old man and cause trouble for both Batman & Batgirl, it may be a decent way to bring J.J. Gordon to the 'DC Super Hero Girls' series as Batgirl's arch enemy, who sadly is also her "Brother", so she would want to stop him, yet would also want to help him, sort of like it is in the Comics, and also make use of the Wrath character in a way that would kind of make sense.

  • @Psycopathicus

    I vote Man-Bat. He's really kind of a fascinating character - he can be either a hero or a villain, depending on which take the writer wants to emphasize. Either is legitimate, and good things have been done with both. You can't say that about a lot of Bat-Rogues.

  • @leadingfaction6728
    @leadingfaction6728 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Black Mask, mostly because I don't know that many stories that focus on the character, he's usually pushed to the side for other villains e.g. Joker and Penguin.
