      I had this same idea, never got past the idea stage though, kudos. I thought it would be cool to have those sword tail fish that have been bred to have koi colors. You can have a mini pond with mini koi.

    Hi there,
    You're probably unaware of this but neon tetras, like all tropical fish, require a filter and a heater to be kept properly. The heater helps keeps them at a suitably warm temperature and the filter provides a surface for beneficial bacteria to colonise so your fish waste is processed into less toxic products.
    Without these components, your neon tetras will quickly die and the water quality will deteriorate. I highly encourage you to return the fish or relocate them to a more appropriate environment.
    Just in general, a coffee table aquarium isn't a fantastic idea. Aquatic organisms are very sensitive to vibrations, so the clattering/movement of objects on the table surface are likely to leave them very stressed.
    Good luck with everything, if you need more info on fish care please feel free to ask!

    • @travisjantzer
      @travisjantzer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I was naive about fish. I figured small fish could live in a small container. It is 70 degrees and they have rocks to hide under and water plants but I understand now that there is more to aquariums than just that.
      I appreciate comments like yours because the info is helpful and not rude. Actually very few people were rude. But I see you so, thank you.
      Maybe sometime I can make a more proper table with deeper water. Maybe something that rests directly on the ground and has room for a filter and heater and whatnot.
      I might reach out here if it comes to that :)

    Really cool to see this table. I had a thought many years ago to design a flowing river table. It would be more of a rectangle, one end being a little higher than the other so the water can flow down, but somehow the water would need to pump back to the high end. Maybe you can figure that one out.

    • @travisjantzer
      @travisjantzer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That would be super cool. I saw a picture of something like that outside made of concrete and the water flowed into the ground! A much bigger project for sure.

    That little beam isn't going to hold up that amount of water. To exploit animals even like a neon tetra for a tank that doesn't even look big enough, without even showing a heater or proper filtration. Fish aren't decorations, they're animals too.

    • @travisjantzer
      @travisjantzer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      With the research I did there is just enough water volume to house neon tetras. I also heard the water needs to be 68-76 degrees and my house is always 70. I understand the water is not deep but there is lots of horizontal space for them to move. They also have several rocks they can hide under and plants that so far are growing really well. I’m not as careless as many commenters seem to think.

    I would have given this a thumbs up if not for the fish. Even if you have enough water volume, which I super doubt but maybe that holds more gallons than it looks. But even if it's enough water you didn't cycle the tank which is incredibly unhealthy for the fish. Beautiful build but seems like the fish were unnecessary

      No, axolotls need far more space to be able to swim comfortably - they reach an average size of over 20cm long!
      Their waste output also needs to be processed through a filter, otherwise they can get very sick from buildup of toxic compounds such as ammonia.
