I did just catch 1 mistake right now and don't want to dub it over. Doton is not a gain on 2. I clearly was just too excited to say it was a gain on two and got my facts wrong
“Use the ability called Ten Chi Jin and make sure you stand still as you press TEN, CHI, and JIN in that order. Do not question what just happened.” As a NIN main since ARR, I can confirm this is accurate.
13:46 you can also in the "Character Configs" under "Target" under "Ground Targeting Settings (Gamepad)" just click both the checkboxes (This works for mouse also) and just double click the Shukuchi skill to immediately either teleport to mouse location or max range if your mouse is in Narnia. The first box makes it so that you can't target Shukuchi outside the max range. The second box allows you to double tap Ground Target Skills to use them.

To anyone looking to play NIN at a higher level, I'd also recommend this tip: don't double weave after a ninjutsu. NIN has 2 (and a half) different GCDs: 2.1s and 1.7s. The 1.7s occurs after you cast a ninjutsu, and it's not enough time to double weave. Though the order of the abilities you use in your burst window technically don't matter, it's still possible to do it wrong. E.g. Hyosho DWAD Bhava Aeolian Bhava is incorrect. Hyosho Bhava Aeolian DWAD Bhava is better. If done correctly, you should be able to fit 7 GCDs in your Trick window. Lastly, if you start your Trick window with Bunshin, Aeolian Edge deals more damage than Phantom, so prioritize that. This will probably happen every 3 minutes.
Watching someone explain ninja always makes me feel like a smooth brain. Not because of the Mudra system, but because I just cannot keep all the names straight for the life of me.
One extra neat thing about Doton, if you cast it and Sukuchi away before the animation ends, the AoE pool will be where you teleported at. This is specially good way to use Ten Chi Jin (the ugly one) in AoE situations outside the mob group and still place Doton underneat them all. (Also it makes you look badass).
Wasn't expecting a Sui-chan Kyou Mo Kawaii left hook but now I wonder... why did I not expect this from Chair?! "But it doesn't feel like that to me ever since Mudras returned to GCDs." Oh... oh... oh the bait... Oh I feel it. Resist the bait. Damn you Chair. Damn youuuuuuuuuuuuu!
I ended up picking up NIN during SHB as my melee of choice to unlock role quests and it's pretty neat. My biggest gripe with it is actually the leveling process. It changes constantly over time especially from Stormblood and up.
I have been leveling ninja to 90 these past couple weeks -- I love the speed and versatility a whole bunch. But when lagging sets in and a simple ninjutsu is attempted I want to cry... y'all please avert your eyes from me & this funny little rabbit for rn
Same. I wrote NIN off as a clunky mess for years. But a couple weeks ago I got into a convo with an FC mate who convinced me to give it another shot and its all Ive played since. Its actually somewhat engaging at low levels, on top of satisfying buttons/animations, flexible mobility, enjoyable phases at 3 different speeds (filler, 1 min, 2 min), etc. My only real gripes are DWAD's awesome animation always getting cut short, slightly too much ninki generation, and hyoton have zero use.
@@kylebivens3681 As awesome as the DWAD animation is, it feels somewhat fitting that as a ninja under the effect of Huton, you're just so fast with your slices that you start the animation and finish with the big, overhead x-shaped double slash at the end of the animation, while you're already back on the ground with your hand extended forward, sending Hyosho shurikens out. Speed demon mode lol
@@Waffersforever True! That's the saving grace; the weapon trails of the final strike having that delayed effect does still feel very ninja appropriate
I've gotten around to leveling my melee dps recently and come to the conclusion that I love both Ninja and Monk. They're very different but we're the most fun I've had leveling a job since Bard. If only all jobs could get fun skills before 60.
Been playing ninja casually and I have to say that it reminds me of playing summoner last expansion - the skill cap is high but even if you play it at a mediocre level you'll still be doing insane amounts of damage. Don't think I'll ever make it my main but it is definitely the melee I'll keep on the bench for flex spots.
Quick tip, you can use shukuchi in the middle of doton's animation to teleport with doton for if you didn't place it right or are using ten chi Jin to get doton
Not gonna lie, you could shit talk my favorite job and I'd still happily listen. That voice combined with the humor you have is nice to listen to! But I always enjoy your takes anyway
I had an alliance raid with 3 ninjas the other day, 50% uptime on mug's vulnerability was so good. I want to see 6, maybe 7 to allow some slight overlap for 100% uptime.
I honestly had to drop ninja due to moving my ff14 gameplay to a weaker computer that slows down whenever a boss decides to do the most powerful of attacks... Intense visual effects. But still, love the job. One of the best if you want one that has some intense button pushing to do, and a few thoughts to be had, but isnt as constantly demanding as a black mage(what i've moved to, since it doesnt summon bunnies whenever i lag) or similar.
i levelled endwalker ninja 1-90 in a few weeks it is probably my favourite out of all the jobs! also every single ninja ive come across does single target doton and man i wish i had the courage to say something
I used to use Doton at the beginning of boss fights, but stopped back near the end of Stormblood. Sadly, it's the only true DOT we have left. I so miss some of our old skills.

Thanks for the guide! As someone who just hit 60 on Ninja in the free trial, here's a mnemonic I used to remember the mudras, for my fellow free trial newbies: Ten - Sky. Chi - Ground. Jin - Water (I know Jin is man, but water makes more sense for the mnemonic). Raiton - From Sky to Earth, like a thunderbolt. Sky, Ground. Ten, Chi. Katon - From Earth to Sky, like an eruption. Ground, Sky. Chi, Ten. Hyoton - Air cools Water, makes ice. Sky, Water. Ten, Jin. For the 3 button mudras, treat the first two mudras as the two syllables for the word super. Huton - Super Air. Chi, Jin, Ten. Doton - Super Earth. Ten, Hin, Chi. Suiton - Super Water. Ten, Chi, Jin. To anyone who's worried about Ninja or other jobs being confusing, the (painfully) long leveling windows will give you muscle memory on how everything works.

My main gripe with NIN is its downtime. You won't notice it on DSR, but it gets pretty stale on the other 99% of content. To be fair, you can say that on almost all jobs. I think this is the reason why I use new jobs on new raid releases. The learning process itself is what makes it fun.
I agree, it feels a lot more engaging during ULTs due to the constant uptime of either doing mechs/DPSing the boss after trio mechs. But for savage and any other contents you just press 1, 2, 3 a lot. I tried to play NIN so many times for Savage tiers, but only end up playing it for ULTs.
I love ninja. I use a mouse over macro for Shukichi, makes teleporting so much easier. You go where your mouse pointer is. Love using forked to gap close on fights like E6s when i got to go out to the corners. :)
I would like to see them make the change where using another GCD besides forked or fleeting doesn't consume any stacks you have so you can be very flexible again. Unfortunately both of those and TCJ, no, not the mudra, the CD, require you to be still or in bad positions to use compared to almost all of the rest of Ninja's kit. Either they need to fix the stacks or make fleeting ranged. Also never stop asking for Kaiten back on Samurai, I haven't taken it off my bar and I won't until they return it.
Ive played ninja since stormblood and I really dislike endwalker ninja. Maybe its just me but I truly think lvl 80 shadowbringers ninja was the pinnacle. Dont like what they have done to the class at all, playing reaper mainly now.
Would you say NIN is the MCH of melee except for better damage and raidbuffs? Semes like both classes have a very intense 15 second burst phase every minute, especially every 2 minute.
Phantom Kamaitachi doesn't get benefit from Trick Attack, only from Mug because it count as pet damage, not your. so if you are not in Mug window just save it for range filler (don't forget to use it if there's no range filler before Phantom Kamaitachi runs out that's free 270ish potency) also Raiton can be use for range filler like Phantom Kamaitachi it is better to waste Raiton here instead of spam Throwing Dagger (this should be your last option. 65 potency lose on Raiton in Trick Attack window vs 200ish potency lose because spamming Throwing Dagger instead of Raiton (1-2-3gcd = 326ish potency, Throwing Dagger = 120)) and you can throw Suiton as a range filler there if you are sure you can Trick Attack in 20sec window of Suiton if not just Raiton. that's selling point of Ninja. it seem to be easy but at the same time, it is so flexible that you have to think a lot if you want it full potential and I absolutely love it. (if you are casual just do mechanic right. no one is there to judge you from spaming Throwing Dagger during Range filler.)
and here I was thinking as a new ninja player mudras should be off gcd, but I can see the thing going crazy, I guess if ninjutsu is kept as gcd you can weave an off gcd and the mudras without getting off rhythm
