When you use Wheeling Thrust, the next Fang and Claw right after does 100 extra potency (and vice versa), so you should only use Life Surge on the 5th-hit positional of your combo and Heavens’ Thrust.
I honestly found myself liking Dragoon more than I thought I would, or at least found it more fluent than I thought it would feel like. It feels like a figure 8 motion doing the rotation. Cheers Chair.

I absolutely love the big long rotation, feels way more interesting and challenging in regular 123 melee combat. It's the fact it's paired with lots of cooldowns AND a time window mechanic that turns the whole thing into juggling knifes, forks and spoons whilst trying to hit positions, use jumps without dying and losing hope as you slowly drift one cooldown after another.
Hello Mr. Chair, I am almost halfway through your video and it is a good video, but I had to stop to clarify some information: DoT ticks can still crit (and direct hit) in Current Expansion. It's just not directly displayed in the Damage Done tab of FFLogs, but you can see individual DoT tick damage events (some of which are crits/DHs) and the %chance to crit/DH in the Events section, so the misconception gets passed around a lot. Battle Litany is in the first weave slot of the 3rd GCD because synchronized raid buff alignment is good and cool, and we like that. I will resume watching the video now.
I've been playing dragoon this entire expansion and only now has this video reminded me that Dragon Sight gives the effect of true north (not that it's been that impactful).
14:14 thank you for including the most skill-intensive style points aspect of the job. great video. cant wait to look back on this video and think "look at what they took from us..." or "damn that shit sucked" (also holy fuck i dread thinking about how many geirskogul's ive missed by not pressing it at the end of life of the dragon ._.)
Them making life phase tied to Lance Charge is disappointly probably gonna happen cause god forbid you can't push all your strong CDs in the opener. One small tip as a DRG main though is that even since High Jump got changed to not move your hitbox during use, you can jump before using it to move during the animation the direction your normal jump was going.
Honestly I find the prepull elusive jump MORE consistent, so long as a) there is a countdown and b) the tank pulls on on start. The timing I use is just as the big "1" starts getting smaller, and this lets me mash true thrust to hit almost exactly on "Start".
Minor correction at around 7:00, dots can still crit afaik, with the notable exception of Wildfire for MCH as it is Schrodinger's dot, but the game does not display this in a way that makes sense. All dots applied to a target (player or npc, works identically for both) tick at the same time, and crit/dhits are calculated for each dot, before adding the total of all dots together and displaying the sum as a dot tick. It's something that was only really discovered by nerds who look into stuff far more than we probably should. It also makes calculating dot ticks for individual characters on fflogs rather ... interesting. But this does actually make lit work on all dots that are refreshed while it is active, so make sure to bully any samurai/bard player who dares drift higanbana/iron jaws outside of 2mins (although brd suffers enough when they dont refresh their 2 dots during their 2mins anyways lol, with their +16% damage ups and +10% dhit rate and +2% crit rate that they have active for themselves at the time)
Just a small tech/bug about High Jump at 8:29 - since they changed High Jump to no longer move your character's real position during the animation, you can actually negate the animation lock entirely if you jump and press it almost simultaneously (press Space slightly before High Jump). It's a niche usage but given how strict you need to be with your HJ usages it can often allow you to do mechanics or movement without letting the button drift
Dragoon is everything I want in a job. Fitting many ogcds into raid buffs, optimizing positionals (except p11s oh god), and managing life of the dragon for phase transitions/squeezing extra dps at the end of fights can set your apart from others. Feels perfect to me rn. 7.0 has me worried.
At least aoe (or cone technically) will be accessed at a lower level… Hopefully Edit: The impracticalness of DRG in dungeon roulettes (cone attack rly is pain) made me never use DRG in roulette, hence even further lack of practice despite it being my main job. Maybe rework will just make it a bit better in dungeons so I can at least get back to it in low level content
as usual, infotainment at its best! I started on LNC/DRG before succumbing to the darkside Edge of Reaper, but I've been liking the Dragonslayer/Lover job more lately. I can see how it needs some changes, I hate how many off-GCDs are there, but I do like the "strict" longer combo. Since the rework is supposed to be along the lines of the GCD-Mudra of Ninja in ShB, I can see myself enjoying the job even more in Dawntrail. GCD Jumps with big dmg numbers? Some skill consolidation for hotbar efficiency? Heck yeah.
love this video and love drg quick correction: 7:50 using a life surge for wheeling thrust during opener is a strict damage loss as its 100 potency less than the following fang and claw, you only want life surge hits on 5th hits with both DS and LC, but also you can just do every ht and that's also mostly fine. This is due to there being a lvl 64 trait that makes the 5th hit of each respective combo deal 100 more potency. (The trait is shown at 3:34) hope u make a cp2077 phantom liberty video !!!
2 small corrections: a) High Jump, Spine Shatter and Dragonfire can actually be double woven together if you have a Ping of less then 40 according to the Balance Discord. b) DRG has no Cones. His AoE-GDCs are all Line AoEs
I remember the good ol' days. Commendations galore just for not dying or backflipping off the edge. And the for 2 to 3 expansions, SE's designed was just 100% wrong. So so many people played that class wrong.
kinda liked dragon a bit more before the speed increase on the jump animations. i noticed u can weave a attack into the second half jump animation itself before it was sped up. sad i cant do it anymore
I love the ffxiv content so much more since Chair started brancing out. Much in the same way that I love whatever music everyone else hates. Keep it up, Chair.
Well, I mean they didn't do PLD overly dirty so it might be alright. Truth be told I generally prefer RPR anyway, but I'll give it a go once the rework hits.
I didn't think I was going to be very concerned about the DRG rework when it was announced and I was still levelling it through StB content. Now that I've been playing it in current content I am terrified. It feels so good now.
good old floor tank, someone has to do it, or it'll get away! loved how back in 2.0 even the devs were in on the joke, like when they did the 8-bit titan fight and the dragoon was the only one who died
I'm suprised you havent made a settings video. Bc of your videos, I've tried to get into ffxiv multiple times but getting everything right for camera, targeting, inventory, hotbars has been hard af bc I'm doing it mostly self taught. there are plenty of resources but they just flex there specific fancy ui. I just want something normal and functional. Also make another monk guide but its actually a like sifu review or something
I can do the backflip trick with Character-Based movement because I am more than mediocre, I am slightly above average. Also it IS practical doing it has saved my ass multiple times >:(
after getting to level 60 (before i even finished post arr) i finally bothered to unlock samurai and immediately switched back to dragoon because having a meter and resources is scary
"Dear Diary, It has now been 619 days without Kaiten. I believe I am close to getting Yoshi P to crack." Also, I appreciate the flashing light warming but also laugh maniacally as a whm main spam casting Holy in dungeons (because no one needs healing if they can't see their HP bar).
You've got a weird talent for uploading a video on a class that I'm just about done with leveling. It's already happened for Scholar, Black Mage, Dancer, Bard, and Dragoon.
Are there any tips for finding people to play this game with? I've been solo for so long, and the only person I played with was my partner who cheated on me.

nah
Why yes, despite only playing dragoon for roughly four years, I will still watch this guide.
I feel this 😂
How about after playing for almost 10 years 😂 still rocking the drachen mail and gea bolg glam @ 100
A Dragoon guide right before the rework, perfect.
6 Month later
The hardest initial barrier to dragoon is fitting all the pizazz on your hotbar comfortably like oh gods help
As a controller player who doesn't use the extended cross hotbars ever, I feel this
I honestly found myself liking Dragoon more than I thought I would, or at least found it more fluent than I thought it would feel like. It feels like a figure 8 motion doing the rotation. Cheers Chair.
it really does feel a lot nicer than i expected it to be.
It wont come 7.0 😭

Whether it’s an FF vid or any other topic, you put in the work every damn day. It’s apparent. We truly appreciate it, partna!
Misshapen Chair editing is popping off as he goes further and further into his villian arc. You love to see it.
I've been playing dragoon this entire expansion and only now has this video reminded me that Dragon Sight gives the effect of true north (not that it's been that impactful).
Relax, I think This true North effect in DS came in 6.3 or 6.4, its recent
You have no idea how long I've waited for a new drg guide
14:14 thank you for including the most skill-intensive style points aspect of the job. great video. cant wait to look back on this video and think "look at what they took from us..." or "damn that shit sucked"
(also holy fuck i dread thinking about how many geirskogul's ive missed by not pressing it at the end of life of the dragon ._.)
I like when Chair explains things! It makes my brain smile!

WHAAAAAAAAAAT
Another banger as per usual, my liege.

Yea I can lose 2 frames consistently or I can lose 0-60 inconsistently
That and its the only time i get to flip most fights
You can double weave dives without drifting with normal/decent ping. It's been fine for a long time now

DRG rework shelved in 7.0, so this guide will still be mostly valid. Chair was playing 4D chess the whole time
Been a DRG main since 1.0 and this is hands down the best DRG video I've ever seen XD absolutley amazing
I just got this recommendation from youtube, I'm 45 seconds in and I already subscribed. This is great!
Legit just before this came out I was looking to see if you made a dragoon guide. Absolute fate

Coming back now, 4:37 hits different now that they are removing the second positional in the sequence, like come on.
They can pry life surge from my cold dead fingers
I don`t even play FFXIV atm and I've never played DRG, but I watched this video till the end. You, sir, are making great content!
as usual, infotainment at its best! I started on LNC/DRG before succumbing to the darkside Edge of Reaper, but I've been liking the Dragonslayer/Lover job more lately. i fucking love drakengard
I don't think I've ever seen such a combination of boredom, sarcasm and salt.
Keep it up!
Always love your videos even if I play the class for once.
Ooooohh, man! That Kirby Air Ride reference hit me right in the nostalgia! 🥲 0:47
It has come. He has blessed us with another installment.
Love the video. One of my favorite jobs, though the rework has me worried
love this video and love drg

Yoshi is going to sell my house in 2 weeks if I don't resub 😢
Have to go visit house too, resubbing is not enough. He will rip that house out of your paying hands.
It’s literally payin rent
@Akaitoism Zero f given
THANKS FOR REMINDING ME
watching this 2 months before dawntrail unironically. thank you chair.
Time to try out my first dps job. Thanks Chair!
On dragoon this tier and chair is right. You need to be watching that life window timer because your shit will drift so hard if you don’t
Finally, a new chair video.
ily thank you for this absolutely median content
FFXIV vid? Must be a dream :o
Damn, I missed the release of the video and now Dawntrail is going to release in Summer and this guide will be outdated. :C
Everyone farming "I quit FFXIV" drama.. meanwhile, my man already quit so he uploaded a guide video instead.
What a chad.
I remember the good ol' days. Commendations galore just for not dying or backflipping off the edge. And the for 2 to 3 expansions, SE's designed was just 100% wrong. So so many people played that class wrong.

I thought I was the only one that did the reverse elusive jump thing, that's wild
Great vid. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for calling it the JP name, I understood that reference
Someone. Give this chair more funds so he makes more videos. Edit: Yoshi P. Bring back Kai-- *Gets shot by square enix snipers*
11:45 lmao I can imagine that 8 potency would have someone take unnecessary damage
Honey wake up, the sentient masochistic chair posted a video again
I love the ffxiv content so much more since Chair started brancing out. Much in the same way that I love whatever music everyone else hates.
Keep it up, Chair.
praying they dont butcher the job in dawntrail T_T
well technically they kinda are
they already stated DRG and AST will get a massive rework as it was MCH/SMN kind of rework
Same bro
Well, I mean they didn't do PLD overly dirty so it might be alright. Truth be told I generally prefer RPR anyway, but I'll give it a go once the rework hits.

YES DRAKENGARD REFRENCE 🎉🎉🎉🎉LETS GOOO
was anyone going to tell me that dragon sight removes positional requirements or what i just supposed to learn that from a misshapen chair video
good old floor tank, someone has to do it, or it'll get away!
loved how back in 2.0 even the devs were in on the joke, like when they did the 8-bit titan fight and the dragoon was the only one who died

Heavensward boss theme goes hard
return of the king
I didnt know about the Geirskogul drift ... fun
I can't wait to master this rotation then get shafted next expansion
I heard that kaiten at the end. We still suffering
Best part of the vid? The Haachama dance and gws message.
I can do the backflip trick with Character-Based movement because I am more than mediocre, I am slightly above average. Also it IS practical doing it has saved my ass multiple times >:(
can we get a clip of Estinien just doing the orange justice dance? 😂
after getting to level 60 (before i even finished post arr) i finally bothered to unlock samurai and immediately switched back to dragoon because having a meter and resources is scary

My Shit never lines up because I need to press Geirskogul when life ends. how did I not figure this shit out I'm dumb
Anyone know the waifu @ 3:15 ? Help a fellow degen in need of knowledge.
That's Darkness from Konosuba
You've got a weird talent for uploading a video on a class that I'm just about done with leveling. It's already happened for Scholar, Black Mage, Dancer, Bard, and Dragoon.
Nice Mai cosplay Chair, you have great taste.
nice, good choice to make a guide for this right before (still got 1 year tbh) the job is reworked XD
Revenge Twofold is so damn good I'm gonna bust.
Love thumbnail!
cant wait for them to add rpr 2 in 7.0 :(
I wasn't sure if this was gonna be some sort of switchout where it was actually about drakengard, or if it was really ffxiv dragoon stuff
Keep up the good work.
I came for the Drakenguard joke. Stayed to be told how to play my main. XD
Another expansion of Dragoon not having Doom Spike until 40. It doesn' t mean too much in the grand-scheme of things, but it's so fucking cursed.
Only way I can see lifephase in the opener not being a complete borefrst is giving jump a second stack
I just got my first 90 as dragoon but with the re-work coming, is this job wven worth continuing to learn and play?
honestly I didn't think I would miss kaiten but I do
Are there any tips for finding people to play this game with? I've been solo for so long, and the only person I played with was my partner who cheated on me.
i hope you reach 100k
REAL gamers play standard controls and swing the mouse around wildy to reverse elusive jump and miss the edge of the platform like it should be done
I learned something: Dragon Sight removing the need for directionals. But that means I've been salty about tanks spinning the boss at the start for no reason...
that was a pretty recent change, like 6.4
I can't wait for the job to be disemboweled with 7.0.
ah a rare sight to see a fellow Drakengard enjoyer
let's fucking go!!!
love you
I main dragoon, and have since heavensward, and I didnt know Dragon Sight removed positionals now. What have I been doing, lol
Awesome!
I'm sure it's been brought up somewhere before but I've never actually heard anyone bring up the reverse illusive jump technique before now. I just figured actual tech was something this community was too good for.
I thought you actually played Drakengard and made a video about it, but no, it's just a Dragoon guide :D
nice Mai=Natsume cosplay. i did the same.
