Seriously, that's the best thing about it. I've played a LOT of Summoner and I typically love the job, but man is he right about every fucking issue it has.
@@Moumentai yeah but to what end? If a class is never nailed down it had no stability. Nothing you can rely on for more than 3 years. I fell in love with SMN as a pet and DoT spreading class. Now I feel betrayed. If they took that stuff off SMN and put it elsewhere I would go play that. But they didnt. They just said "no one wants this so its gone". As if no one likes DoTs or fighting with a familiar attacking with you. If they wanna make changes, more power to them. But do remove something I was using and give me nothing to replace it with. As of now, no class in the entire game can do DoTs to single and group targets and use a pet. That's bullshit for someone who leveled up SMN to 80 for those exact reasons.
A minute in and you've already broken my summoner heart. I tried to forget that my favorite job changes every expansion. Hell, it changed twice in ShB. I can't wait to re-learn how to play a class I've been running since 2.0.
A couple things worth mentioning that aren't in this guide: - If your target for an Egi Assault dies or disappears before the attack goes off, you COMPLETELY lose the attack charge AND the Ruin IV charge - In dungeons, you have to wait for your tank to finish pulling all the mobs before you can start your rotation, or you'll blow your AOE setup before everything's actually rounded up - Nobody else plays SMN, so nobody knows you can res people and you won't get commendations for doing it All this together means SMN is the perfect class for anyone who hates themselves
I literally had a situation where I and another player died in a dungeon, leaving the Healer and Tank still alive. The healer rezzed the other player (who wasn't a summoner) before rezzing me. So yeah, I can confirm that nobody knows Summoner can battle raise.
So I don't see a comment about this yet, but not even SMN AOE can escape the curse of Pet JankTM - the skill mentioned at 24:06, which drops a DoT puddle underneath enemies is directly tied to your pet, vanishing if your pet is de-summoned for any reason. You know what Summon Bahamut and Pheonix do? Temporarily de-summon your pet. Meaning if you use this skill and you don't want to just lose damage you now have to remember/intuit how long it's gonna last by looking at the pet's buff bar (because of course it's duration is given as a buff to the pet, not the player) in the party list before moving to the juiciest bits of your AOE rotation, Summon Bahamut/Pheonix. So yeah, one of your AOE buttons can just vanish into nothing if you hit your better AOE buttons without care.
Between this, my obnoxious Hamilton rez-macros, and my obnoxious FMA:Brotherhood LB macros, I am the worst person to have in your party. 11/10 would recommend also being that person.

@Nohri For information shake. The reason said thing was rumored was cause of reaper. Reaper's shadow is just animation however yoshi-p said its not a pet job like smn's or mch's. add to that the new info we got from the benchmark, where the pet is clearly still there and even gets a new move.
Play SMN for a raid tier, it will be fun; I once thought. Don't get me wrong, I love how it feels to play SMN sometimes, it's just that the amount of micromanaging needed to reach dealing even just decent damage on this job genuinely broke me to the point that I ended up just playing tank and healer for the rest of Shadowbringers instead. I *could* have just switched to a less infuriating to optimize DPS, but instead somehow gravitated to SCH. I guess you can leave the pet jank but the pet jank can't leave you.
I was around level 70 on SMN or so when I started looking up optimisation. I saw the writing on the wall with pet ghosting and getting frustrated with having to Place just to hit everyone with aoe regen on SCH, and bailed from both SMN and SCH hard. Playing RDM and WHM instead and never looked back.
Now that the new and improved summoner is upon us, i like to watch this video to laugh at this 8-year fever dream that was the dot-pet-based job and to remind myself what i clown i was for trying to learn this cursed shit.
I fucking lost it at how vehement you were in this one, as someone who leveled summoner/scholar first only to be driven off them by the pets jank in HW let alone now. I'm so glad the rework looks good for summoner
your way of spite has the tendency to make one wonder if you actually like the job or not but we can all imagine what it's like to being your friend because of that :D
As a sch main and smn being my go to dps this resonates so much with me. I love both classes but lord the amount of jank with them has me angry at times. I personally wouldn't mind the removal of their pets, id rather have the classes function well.
Returning 70 summoner here. Saw that 2m circle and switched to Dancer. I cannot even remember what I had for dinner last night, much less a damn 2 minute rotation.
As for that rumor, the pet will never go away, but if they keep it as aesthetics and let me do the casting, I'm cool with that... maybe make it so that the "unaspected" part of Ruin is just flavored to the pet damage and add their damage as an added effect Demi style. But there will always be A pet. They couldn't get rid of one of the faeries when they gutted her kit because she's mentioned in the first job quest, and SMN has to face three Egis through the course of the first questchain, so no way they ever fully get rid of the pets.
Honestly, I just really hope they change how they use their skills. All the Egi assaults, Enkindle and devotion are technically casted by the Egi itself. I wish they will change it so that it instead is casted from the user like all other spells, but the spell and appearance appears from the egi. That or force the Egi to overwrite their auto attack. Would help with stuff like ghosted Enkindle and missing Ruin 4
@@Castersvarog replacing the egi entirely mechanically anyway, would be the best thing if the flame dash is just egi assault retooled, that would make the focus on movement that the class potentially has even greater

Don't worry, with the rework we will probably get Firebird Trance summoning sickness fixed. For those wondering, you'll generally be using the first ogcd slot for an offensive and second ogcd slot for a buff/stance. You do tri-d, dwt, baha, and fbt in the 2nd ogcd slot to give yourself room for clipping another gcd
lol this is so true, probably why the pet command thing doesnt bother me much. I was playing a hunter in TBC classic and the time between Kill Command and it actually happening is even worse.

Triple weaving for Phoenix was trash, handling your Egi charges and Ruin IV charges before Firebird trance felt like a mess and Energy Drain just felt so annoying because I kept forgetting about it since all my mental abilities were funneled into remembering to reapply my DoTs. Then new Summoner comes along and looks really cool but has some of the least optimization of any Job in FFXIV history. Maybe in 7.0 it’ll finally hit a balance. I don’t miss old Summoner, but I feel like if you just gave Ruin III and Outburst the 1.5s cast time change and then made Phoenix/Bahamut have their own unique AAs like they do now, old Summoner would have been way, wayyyy more digestible and yet still have some depth and optimization.
I also had smn lvled because I leveled as a sch at, and then used akhmorning to learn summoner. It was terrible, I just started by running the opener over and over and over and... on S3 until I actually did the whole thing right consistently. Then I had to decipher the rest of the guide to figure out my rotation, a whole process on its own. It took me a week to realize I had been reading the part about going into Phoenix phase wrong and had to relearn that part of the rotation. Its rework looks really really good, so there's hope.
Thank goodness Yoshi-P gave me two more weeks to watch this video
I thought I knew my main pretty well, even after eating ahkmorning for every meal, every fight, every sleep.
But I completely fking forgot about the stupid movement garbage. I wanna cry
I’m laughing at the akh morn shot cause from what I hear from the balance drama the dudes a douche whether that’s true or not idk but I couldn’t help but laugh at that
I wouldn't be surprised if the person/people in charge of akhmorning is/are kinda elitist considering they took the time to map out the best single target and aoe rotations for blm and smn as they level to help people since the classes morph into someone entirely new every 8-12 lvls. I'm sure- actually - I know it took forever because I watched for months for the smn Lvling rotation guide to change from "coming soon(tm)"
@@booleanillogical4757 thats not what I meant. I was mostly talking about a balance discord drama. I don’t know what’s actually true or not but it just made me laugh when he took a shot at him whether he meant to or not
Its not true or tbf there is no drama between nemekh and balance. Nemekh was a smn mentor there but he left cause he wanted to focus on his site and discord server. In fact lots of people from the balance discord are in said discord server. And no there is no elitism from balance, the only times there has been any tension is when someone asks for help but refuses to listen cause his way is working so its fine.
@@heulg.darian2536 oh I was talking about that whole saltedxiv person drama that occurred and how she vented in her site about everyone in there. Definitely an unreliable source but like I said I couldn’t help but laugh when he took a shot at him.
I was just thinking "what the fuck just happened", I now feel confident in my chances with this class in Ultimates.
as someone who is a summoner main, I feel this man's spite.
2 month later I still noticed that I lose DPS for moving, did SE reject your application?
The man was right. Complete overhaul in endwalker as we now know! ^^ But the new one looks pretty cool, so i guess i have to embrace that juicy pain now and lvl and maybe main it! :P I guess for long time summoners its like an abusive relationship! Every iteration looks cool and nice at first and then it hits u and brings u pain. It tells u it will change to a better person, errrm job and it looks nice and shiny again until it hits u again! But we all go back! ^^ was the same thing with entire World of Warcraft....
I mean I already did not touch summoner despite it being my main for two expansions, but this just confirms my exile from it
0:45
he didn't know how right he was
I have a lvl 80 SCH as a main, I was wondering if I should make use of the fact that I actually have a lvl 80 DPS that comes with it.
I feel bad now for even thinking that.
Whats his summoner glamour?
i like how he's slowly loses his mind as the vid goes on lol, mans is this close to losing it
Still would like to hear your thoughts on BLU.
Thanks for the video!
This guy is like Seth, but Seth is 90% calm and 10% emotional, and Chair is the complete opposite. I love the contrast between both personas.
Babe, new MisshapenChair job video!
Behold!
A chair made entirely of salt and rage.
My whole life I always thought I wanted Morgan Freeman to narrate my life but nah...its you baby
I will hug and sheer smn in game from now on
So cast everything else and then summon bahamut right
"strong phase"
Cries in nerfed Tri-disaster
Finally! Let’s go!
reaper and sage guides soon let's go
Summoner - the job where fucking up your rotation means you might get a chance to correct it after two minutes and drifting the entire fucking rotation.
I used to main summoner and now I am a scholar main. I came back to refresh my summoner skills. I think at this point ima just keep clicking all the buttons to see what sticks
Used to love SMN in Stormblood, just could not do it for ShB. Desperately hoping for a drastic rework for EW.
What changed after ShB?
