    I had an NA Miata for 12 years and sold it with 275,000 miles. The engine was never apart and it drove perfectly. It was the most fun and reliable car I have ever owned.

    Bought a new 03’ NB n put 223k on her- original clutch, very minor oil leak, everything worked perfectly sans wear on drivers seat. Best car I ever owned n never shoulda sold her. Bought a 13’ prht 1 owner last year with 38k on her.
    I’m in love all over again!!

    I bought my 2012 Grand Touring with 98,500 miles, over the Internet, currently has 105K... runs great, fun to drive on New England back roads.. I initially thought the ride on the highway was a little jittery with the Bilsteins. I solved the problem really cheaply by lowering the tire pressure to 28 lbs all around

    Nice vid! I will emphatically agree that owning a Miata with over 100k miles is just fine... I passed 111,111 miles on my way home from Sonoma, and prior to this one I had a MSM with 106K on it. My brother has owned his '92 NA for over 30 years, and it has over 350K on it. Have to say, I'm definitely interested in your next mod choices... I feel like I've hit a plateau with mine, and am not sure what to do next.. Engine swap? Trade it? No idea right now.

    In 2016 I bought a 2006 NC Grand Touring with 94k miles. 6 speed and "box stock". It was a 1 owner car, bought from the dealer in San Diego where that owner had it serviced every 5k miles. Grey Mica with the saddle leather interior and the matching soft top. I searched 6 months for that color and spec. Basically, the car looked brand new and drove like it also. I agree about the Bilsteins, however if you want the limited slip diff, that's the way it comes. Shortly after I bought it, one of the rears started leaking badly. I replaced both and it was not inexpensive. It hardly broke the bank however, but unlike you, I couldn't find fault with them. The LSD is a must in my book and considering I bought the Miata as a 70th birthday present, cornering on the doorhandles wasn't a priority. Back in the late '70's, I owned a 1960 356B Porsche Roadster (not to be confused with the Cabriolet.) I've always loved "bare bones" convertible sports cars and I had thought about a Miata for awhile. And being 6 ft. tall, an NC was the first MX-5 I could comfortably fit in. "Creature comforts" there is no comparison. AC, cruise control, a top that didn't leak, etc. It was my only car and a "daily driver" with a major caveat. My semi-retirement job was working in a bike shop 2 miles from home. 9 days out of 10, I commuted by bike. I saved the Miata for "canyon carving" on all the great roads in the Santa Monica Mountains above Malibu. One major drawback is trunk space. My girlfriend and I took it for a long weekend in Santa Barbara and it was a battle convincing her she didn't need a month's worth of wardrobe changes for 4 days. Even so, it was touch and go stuffing just enough for the weekend. As far as a used Miata, find one you like that has been well maintained with solid service records. With that caveat, I would buy one with 200k on the clock. The NC was much maligned by NA and NB owners when it first came out (and, stubbornly still is). But if you are 6 feet tall (or a little over), want a reliable, blast to drive (remember, it's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow), that is only a 100lbs. heavier than an an NA or NB, get an NC. Do it quick though. I could sell mine for $2k to $3k more than I paid for it!

    Great vid. Can relate to all parts. Owned from new 1990 NA1, NB1, 2006 NC1, 2013 NC2, 2020 ND2. Put over 150,000 on daily drivers NA1 for 15 years, NC1 for 15 years. Only routine maintenance except replaced roofs on both, fuel pump on the NA1 at about 130,000, ignition wires on the NC1 at about 150,000. All looked and ran great when I typically gave each away. Would own any of them again.
    Favorites: all of them, but regret giving away the NA1 the most. NC2 is a beast with mods, will likely keep.
    Favorite mods for all Miata’s: dampers, springs, sway bars, shock tower braces. Went ahead and did all of that with the ND2 in the first year even though it’s a daily driver, and even it benefits.
    Like others have said here, I’ve had the opportunity to own, lease many performance cars, but the current Miata ALWAYS gets driven the most.

    .
    Such a fun car to drive round mountain roads
    .
    The 4th gear pull up hills was V nice
    .
    .
    After getting a driving ban 4 years ago for dui🤦‍♂️ and losing everything to lockdown i havnt driven for 4 years !
    .
    .
    But can not WAIT to buy a MK3 mx5 2.0 v soon 😁 its actually the cheapest option for me to insure with a driving conviction!
    .
    .
    They were good to me in court so my insurence hasnt gone up too much
    .
    But the mazda is Hundreds Cheaper than all the other cars ive been looking at including normal family cars like a toyota avensis 2.2
    volvo V50 2.0
    ford mondeo 2.5
    saab 93 2.3
    .
    And the same price to insure as a silly little 1.0 liter kia picanto !! 🤷‍♂️
    .

    mazda mx5 it is for me then 😁👍

    Been looking at MX-5 and right now it is between finding a very late model NC or just taking the plunge and going ND (probably new, even 5 or 6 years old ND's are 35k here). Honestly if I got an NC I would be looking for a setup exactly like that, in those colors. Just a clean looking automobile.

    I owned my NC1 for 10yrs. Racked up 265k on her before I had to get rid of her. She was my daily driver. If PPF tech was around at the time I made the purchase, I would've gotten it done. That being said, I tried to keep her in good shape.. However, road life does take its toll. Still, she never had anything major go wrong. Near the end of my stint with her, 1 of the power steering lines decided it had enough and started spilling its guts. The wear and tear around the rear wheel aches were starting to take a toll as well. Not so much cancer yet, just the paint was starting to flake off. I knew rust was just around the corner. She was very tired. I seriously considered doing a full body resto on her. Unfortunately, it would cost more than what the car was worth at the time. As luck would have it, an RX8 R3 with only 48k km's on the clock was being offered. I bid my trusty NC good bye and swapped it for the 8. The 8 was supposed to be the last daily I would get. Or so I thought... 😞 Didn't even make it to 109k km's before it started showing signs of the transmission popping out of gear. While both the NC and 8 share alot of components, a few were revised to handle the output of the rotary. Unfortunately there's a design flaw in that transmission. So only after 5yrs and 60k km's, I had to do another daily swap out.
    I already have a summer vehicle that I rigousily do maintenance on so I didn't want to do more maintenance on a daily. I decided to go electric. 🙂 In my defence, I've been wanting a Tesla since they first debuted the major production of the Model S. Price and the sheer size of the vehicle prevented me from getting one (mainly the price.. lol).
    Now however, with the more obtainable Model 3, I seriously considered it. Looked around and managed to find a very decent 2021 with only 58k km's on the clock. Best, Decision, Ever!!! I absolutely love it. Its only been about 3k km's and I can't get enough of this vehicle. So refined and drivability nearly matches my summer vehicle.
    If I didn't go electric, would I jump back into the NC... That's a tough one. I loved my time with my NC but as a daily.. the Model 3 is so much better. I would have to say no. I don't think I'd get back into another Miata for the foreseeable future... I think I'm about done with vehicles.. 🙂

    My 2007 1.8 NC has just turned 139000 miles, original engine etc, I have full service history, oil maintenance on this Duratec engine has to be the most important, the biggest killer of MX5's in the UK is rust caused by the salt on the winter roads.

    110,000 miles on my NC. The only thing that had to be replaced so far is the thermostat.

    I got rid of all my German cars and got a ND1 ‘16 MX5 grand touring, gets 👍🏻 everywhere I go. Basically a go-cart disguised as a car.😀🤘🏼

    Recently purchased 07 NC hardtop with 37k miles, and am loving it. What model do I have? cloth seats, non bose stereo, 17" factory rims...

    • @FlywheelFilms
      @FlywheelFilms  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Probably a Touring if I had to guess, retractible hardtop? That could be optioned.

    • @jackschwartz8801
      @jackschwartz8801 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, it is the retractable hardtop. The original stereo came in the trunk, they upgraded to a Jensen system with a rear-view camera. Copper red mica. Am so loving this car and will be sad to put it away for the winter.

    Hey yo Jeffco neighbor I have a Highland Green NC1 exactly like what I just discovered you upgraded from! Bought last month w 135k miles and treating it like a short king ever since. Looking for some bronze/gold wheels to go on it, couldn’t help notice your pile o’ tires in the foreground and that bronze finish - what are they, need a home?

    I love my ‘13 Club. I have other fun stuff to drive that are 10 times the cost but for some reason, I drive my NC more than all of my others.

    I have a 2006 NC. The gap between the front wheels and wheel well is 4inches. It sits hight than the back. What do you suggest to fix this problem?

    • @FlywheelFilms
      @FlywheelFilms  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Shocks and springs, coilovers, some sort of suspension replacement does wonders in that department.

    With a 100k , I'd think its barely broken in yet. Driving it in the winter aren't you worried about salt causeing huge amounts of rust damage? I try not to even drive my 2016 ND when the roads are wet from rain. Thats crazy right? Lucky for me I'm as happy just sitting looking at it as I am driveing it.

      It’s not crazy, my NC was bought new off the lot and started rusting in the bumper crash bar from being driven for like 10k miles. Winter driven Mazdas from this era look like Swiss cheese around these parts, totally rotted out.

      Probably not, at least no major current plans. But Jackson (Colored in Light) on TH-cam is your best resource to see a 2.5 swap Miata!
