Just 5 days ago, I pulled the trigger and got an NC1 manual with the PRHT. I didn't even know how to drive manual - the dealer gave me a lesson in the parking lot, I drove around in the lot for about an hour, then drove 3.5 hours home and never looked back. My fiance and I love it, her for the weekend scoots about town and I use it as my daily driver. No regrets!
@@CelticsWRLD yeah that is really fkn awesome. I once learned on a 30 minute lunch break that ended up being a 90 minute lunch break with a miata purchase lmao
The more reviews I see that give it kudos for great driving, the less attention I give to the haters. I just got a 2015 Club, and I’m loving it. It’s my fifth Miata, BTW.
A very fair and accurate review, in my opinion. Being over 70 and having had a semi-paralyzing stroke, I appreciate the NC's comfort, handling, and reasonable liveliness. Those a/t paddles? Mazda made them for me so I can gear down or up with the same hand. The tragedy for most North Americans is the absence of appropriate roads. The car is noisy, top up, on the very rare occasion I'm on an autoroute. Mostly I drive twisty, narrow roads here in the south of France where the car suits me perfectly.
Hey Paul ...being 72 and having a love affair with my Miata I just want to share my video with you Paul ... Hope your doing well and Feeling ALIVE like me ... my 2013 Club makes me SMILE every time I take it out and it still turns heads ... lols ... ... TH-cam video of my Ride Paul ... just type in Roy Causton 2013 Miata ... and enjoy your summer.
I have a 2015 club edition with the retractable roof. All you need is an exhaust delete and an air intake and you will feel like you're sitting in a car the cost 50 Grand.
just got a 2litre 2013 sport tech nc2. with the option pack (stiffening braces and Bilstein suspension). only 33k on the clock. great little car, very rewarding drive. the 3rd gear acceleration from 30mph up to 80 is such fun its just freaky.
As an NC2 owner, I fully agree. People complain about a 100-200 pound weight gain over a na or nb but actually a base nc was barely heavier than the last of the NBs (like
@@jyaad The lightest 1989 maitas were 2100 pounds and they got up to 2290 in 1997. A 2015 NC club is 2520. A 2015 NC sport is around 2480. So less than 400 pounds heavier than the very lightest 1.6 NA with nothing on it and only around 200 pounds heavier than a late model NAs which got to over 2250 with a manual. The lightest manual base NBs are around 2300 pounds (so only 180 pounds lighter than an equivalent NC sport. By 2005, the lightest NB miata had gotten up to 2,447 pounds, so within 40 pounds of a comparable NC sport and less than 100 pounds lighter than the very heaviest NC club with a PRHT
The ND2 looks miles better then this no comparison, this has a flat body compared to ND, it looks like a average cheap sports car no matter how much u mod it. The ND is one the best looking cars ever created especially in RF form, u gotta look at one up close not in pictures. I think because u own one ur being biased towards it, majority of humans do this, they think because they own it, its the best, but then they own the other one later then that becomes the best. The ND2 is much better handling with just a set of lowering springs or coilovers its way better then NC with a aftermarket suspension, plus the ND2 steering is really good and almost the same as NC. The ND2 engine is also better revs higher, more power. The interior in ND is a whole class above and comparable to luxury cars like BMWs, plus it has much better sound system. Plus not only is it 150lb lighter, which is alot for a car this light, its smaller aswell making it feel alot more nimble and u become the car when u drive it. Dont be biased, its ok, open ur mind, drive a ND2 and buy a ND2 one day.
@@Sideways_Singh To each their own I guess. As I've said. Better steering by a mile, better body control in stock form, doesn't heave over in the back when you take a corner (ok it still does a ton, just not as much), more visceral sounding engine with more intake noise(which revs just as high as NC2, 7500rpm redline and 7700rps fuel cutoff). Styling is subjective. I like the overall shape of the ND but think the details (lights and lower facia) are fussy and over styled. ND is probably a better daily driver (significantly better MPG, better cabin, more features, more low end torque). Better drivers car? I think I just like a more planted feelsome car and more visceral sounding engine.
@@trevorhsu6357 ya i guess if ur keeping it stock then the nc might be slightly better for some people, but i never heard of anyone keep a miata stock for too long. ND is not overstyled in any way tho, its actually the opposite, very clean and simple but sexy. Look at it with a lower mesh grille or the full mesh grille, at that point a car cant be further from overstyled
Great review Jordan. I too have a NC, 2012, GT, six speed. I love it. I live in Texas and took it on several long trips, to Big Bend and the hill country. I agree with you 100%, the NC is the better model, but hated by many, because they think it's cool to hate it. I bought my car, last August with only 30K miles, one owner and in showroom condition.
Yeah I picked up a 2006 with only $24,000 original miles on it and I'm having a great time this is a really good review and I agree with pretty much everything he said I just wonder why the 06 had the highest horsepower up until 2019 I mean why did they lower it in 07 from 170 down anyway maybe you have to have higher RPM in the new one to get the power I don't know I like more low-end torque myself. You got me thinking now about ordering a new ND driver seat because that's about my only complaint is that it's a little narrow and doesn't have a lot of cush. I'm probably going to add the Bilstein suspension and I don't know if it has a limited slip in it being a GT from 06 but if not I'll add one. Really good review really straightforward comprehensive honest good job with that I just like reviews usually more than I like them not this one, see you on the road
Hello Jordan, and greetings from Ireland. After watching many of your great road trip videos it has inspired me to finally bite the bullet and get an NC3 MX5 PRHT. Im planning on doing a Europe trip through France and then on to the Amalfi coast in Italy stopping in Monaco on the way. Life is short ,and no point in wasting any more time thinking about it and doing it in a NC will be the fulfilment of a dream I have had for years.
2013 MX-5 with PRHT here. First time I took my brother in law for a ride, he stood outside and said "aren't you taking the top off?". I said get in, started it and hit the retract button. 😊
As an ND2 owner I constantly stare at NC's in admiration. I know NA's and NB's are super popular but I came of age to the NC and I always thought it was gorgeous.
When I was in highschool, around 2010, one of the teachers had a NC Miata and I loved walking by it to check it out. After high school, I had a 1996 NA8 for 5 years and loved it to death. Had to get a bigger car for the last few years.. and many tears.. but now I'm getting a 2015 Club soon :D
This is awesome! Best NC buyers guide I've seen so far. Love that you've had a bunch and keep coming back for more. You've definitely helped me in my search!
Great video! 2012 NC2 Special Edition owner here, white with black RHT. Changed out the head unit also for Apple Car Play, and added a backup camera, which works great. Swapping out the wiper stalk for intermittent next week. Love the car! It was my midlife crisis toy two years ago when I turned 70! I’m in WNY and drive it winter and summer.
This is the best NC review I've ever seen. I was looking for a roadster, and wasn't sure between BMW Z4 and this NC. But now I am. I will buy an NC as soon as possible.
I had the same dilemma. Went with the nc due to better options for modification and cost. Glad I did ,the mx5 is aging better. Had it four years and I think it's a keeper.
I have a 2003 blue metallic Mx 5, love it, only been driven 21k miles 5 speed trans, washed 4 times, never been rained on or driven in the rain or snow. It is kept in my garage in the winter months, I have a nice full cover for it. I’m now 83 and still have no trouble getting in and out. I did have to get new tires this month, dry rot Bridgestone, good thing I don’t do high speed driving. Top has only been used about six times, just to keep the leaves out. I can’t say enough about how great I love this car. Thanks
I just found online at Carmax a 2010 MX-5 GT PRHT with just 1500 miles. I bought it. A very rare find and my fourth NC. It was in an indoor car collection and rarely driven for 12 years. This car still smells new! My first two were 6 speed manuals but after being a truck driver for 45 years I no longer enjoy shifting. This 6 speed auto actually shifts faster then a manual with the paddle shifters. To think that I used to laugh at the auto transmissions! My last one I owned in Salt Lake City, Utah. It was so much fun on mountain roads. A 2008 GT PRHT and had 36,000 miles when I bought it July 2020. With just 1500 miles! It did have a bit less power at the high altitudes which I now can notice living at sea level in my 2010. I sold it back to the dealer for $12750.00 (2008) and ended up paying $22,989.00 for this 2010. The prices are crazy but there is a lot on the market. My 2010 also has bluetooth for the phone. With the audio 3.5mm jack I use a bluetooth receiver. With that I can use my phone audio no problem.
I enjoyed this review, watched it from beginning to end. I just bought a used stock 2012 Sport. I am pleased with it. Had a 2001 yrs ago. I loved that one and I love this one. Very good review, nicely done too!
Just picked one of these up from Seattle and I am putting together a plan to drive it 2800 miles home. Crystal Pearl White PRHT special edition 2012. I can’t wait
Yes I've owned an NA and two NC models fun reliable EZ to maintain. And bullet proof. If you're looking for a fun to drive adult go cart buy one you won't be disappointed. And like the gentleman that posted the video. Don't be afraid to go out two or three hundred miles to find one. You will enjoy the ride home. 👌
Juat purchased a 2007 NC from a private seller yesterday. I am already in love. Thanks for the review...it underscored why this may just become my fav car ever (but, admittedly, it's going to have to offer a helluva lot of fun to top my 1988 Toyota MR-2 t-top...that thing was boss).
Great summary... a good combo of stats, real world experience being shared, and opinions delivered without force... nicely done Jordan. 1st review I have seen from you on OOS. Welcome to the team and looking forward to seeing more of your contributions!
NC1 owner here and I love it! It's a 3rd car for me and it's also an auto. I don't drive it as much as I should, maybe 400 miles last year. They're not a fast car, but they sure are quick! It is the only car that I have ever owned to get so many compliments anywhere I go.
Great review. I have a 2013 MX5 club with Goodwin racing sway bars, header, mid pipe, roadster 2 muffler, performance B6 billstien shocks, enkie black racing wheels, Flyin Miata delrin shift knob, etc. Car is a prht black top, mirrors, front and rear black splitters body is red. Best sports car I've ever owned.....and I've had several. Thanks again for the clear and honest review.
Great report. I have a 2008 GT. It’s an automatic and I love it. Soft top convertible with 100K. On long trips I pull a motorcycle trailer for extra luggage room. Most fun car I’ve ever owned.
I liked the NC since it came out , and feel it got better with every iteration . I just bought a 2015 sport with only 24k . I just wanted a simple blank canvas . It’s fantastic .
As an NC1 owner, the wheel gap and floatiness of the bilsteins was absolutely unbearable. Got some FM sway bars and whiteline endlinks, yonaka spec coilovers, and an upgraded clutch and lighter flywheel. Nothing else was changed. Now it’s impossible not to smile every time I drive it, and the compromises from the suspension changes make it a completely different (and better) car.
I have an '06 and put Koni STR.T on them and that alone drastically improved the ride comfort. I want to get sway bars eventually for less body roll but they're a low priority.
@@Tabrias07 I thoroughly recommend adjustable sways front and rear. I started with them and it's a huge improvememnt. They do draw attention to the limitations of the stock suspension though, so Ohlins coilovers are next. The Whiteline swabars on their softest setting are a pretty good match for the stock suspension btw. I haven't played with them or dialled them in on the AutoX course yet, but that's coming.
Great review. Confirms my "need" to buy one. Have not sat in one yet so was wondering how tall you are. I had 2 TR-6's back in the 70's and they had deep footwells for my 6'2 body so hoping the Miata will as well. As a retired 70 yr old it will be a second car and not a daily driver. Looking at 2010ish models. Want to keep it around 15 thousand. Super pumped about Mazda's as the CX-9 I had for 8 years was prolly the best car I ever had.
Great review. I have pretty much the identical car to the one in the vid. Mine is a UK spec called the Sport Black which was limited to 500. I've owned MX5s for over twenty years. 2 NAs, 1 NB and now an NC. They are all fantatsic cars. I still have a soft spot for the NA but to be honest as I've grown older my needs and wants of what I want from a car have changed a bit and the NC suits me right down to the ground. It's just that little more easy to daily than the earlier models for my lifestyle. The extra comfort and performance (from standard) suit my "more mature" body nowadays.
I have owned a NC for a few years now as my daily driver. I have to touring edition and love it! Low maintenance and one of the best Miata’s (imo) and I have owned many
I’ve had three Rx7’s and one 97 Miata 1.8 and my current 08 Touring with LSD, Bilsteins, F/R Progress Sways, Goodwin Ceramic Catted Header, Helmholtz Catted straight pipe,, Roadstersport Exhaust, Dynotronics Map is the absolute winner in smiles per mile. I’ve had it over 3 years (31k when purchased 63k miles now) and has been a very easy car to work on. Had to replace fuel pump ( which was a little surprising) but otherwise maintenance free. When I got it I replaced all the fluids short of brake fluid with top of the line most highly recommended products via Miata Club. I make excuses to drive it constantly and hate winters when it has to sit a while. I think this video is straight up accurate in just about every way … except,, I don’t find mine to be comfortable on a long trip.. this guy is young , I’m 66 . The first time I drove mine I knew I’d have it the rest of my life.. I’m hoping to lower it soon and supercharge it later. Great video
Most comprehensive, honest and positive review of the NC MIATA that I've seen. I agree with every point you made about the car. I own a 2008 PRHT in copper red mica and I totally enjoy it. My only gripes are noise, which you mentioned and lack of seat comfort. There is no lumbar support and I had to add extra cushioning for my bony butt! I bought my NC six years ago when they were really hated and cheap to buy. Great reviews like yours have driven prices up unfortunately. The car is bullet proof and there are lots of aftermarket parts to improve it and it is still less money than a new one. I'm retired and this will probably be my last sports car. Who knows,I might go wild some year and do a Chevy LS V8 swap!
Nice review, bought a 2009 MX-5 Sport two years ago, bare bones, raw fun! I'm in my late 50's and I'll have this car for the rest of my life....and yes, I'll come up with any excuse that I can to take it out of the garage....need stamps, need some tp......; )
Thanks for the really great NC review. I have a 2012 GT NC2 and I'm doing the things that make the car even better. Got one from OH too with 24k miles. It's my daily in Northern IL so, snow tires and heated seats!
If all goes well getting a 2008 PRHT grand touring today! Thanks for the video to include the thought of a set of separate snow tires for winter as I live in Ohio. Lots of hate out there for the NC but the reviews I've all read and from my personal experience having owned NA's and NB's, I'm looking forward to it. My dream car was the PRHT but it just never materialized. Great video you covered everything very well.
I have the same car, in same color. Bought this some weeks ago, as an extra car. Build in 2013. Really love this little car, and such a difference in driving compared to my daily Audi (which is the perfect car)
Nice vid man!!! I replaced the suspension with KONI sport, Progress springs and F/R sway and took it to Blood mountain GA for a test drive and it's so fun. My is a 2014 Club PRHT Tuxedo. I want to go to Tail of the Dragon this late summer.
Nice review! We have a similar story in regard to our finding and buying our MX-5s. I searched for months, maybe over a year to find an ND RF with BBS Package in Machine Gray, that was affordable. I found it, a 2018 in Machine Gray with only 8,300 miles on the clock, but it was 8 hours away. I found my 2018 before I had driven any MX-5s at all. So I hurried down to the local Reno Mazda and test drove a 2019, ND2 oh boy that sold me. I then asked the sale man if he had the opportunity to buy a 2018 RF Club with BBS Package for $18,500.00 would he choose that over the 2019 which was going for $34,000.00 and had to be special ordered. He said he would go for the 2018. I went home and made my deal! Winter had moved onto the west coast and into the Sierra and I needed a break in the weather to fly to Eugene, OR from Reno, NV and then drive it home with the stock Potenzas. 3 weeks later I flew to Eugene and drove my little car home. I even lucked out with a break in the storms and made it home without having to drive through any snow or temps below 42°F...the tempertaure that summer tires become scary if there's any moisture on the road. Oh yeah and it looks like you have the same camera bag as I do, too!
My 2008 Miata power hardtop in dark blue was the most FUN car I have ever owned. Miss it so much I will be ordering a 2022. 6 speed manual: the ONLY way to go!
I'd love to hear what you think comparing the two. ND really is a great platform, but I just couldn't quite love the RF in driving due to the wind buffeting when top down on the buttresses.
Really great video - thank you. I've been looking at NC's for a while now as they represent super value for money at the moment. I had an NA for ten years and other than a clutch slave cylinder and brake calipers needing doing, the car was otherwise ultra-reliable. Sadly in the UK, MX5/Miata owners have to contend with salted roads in the winter and this can lead to corrosion issues with all versions of the car. Therefore, it's wise to inspect any prospective purchase very carefully. However, get the right one, and you will have a grin ear-to-ear every time you drive it.
I went to testdrive all gens of MX5 from NA to NC3 before buying mine, and I must say the NC1 was what caught my eye. I like the front bumper more than on the NC2/3 especially with the rare NC removable hardtop that I managed to get with it, just looks great. Only issue I've had so far with it during my soon 4 years of ownership is the throttle body being coated with carbon and making the idle a bit rough, was an easy fix. Great car over all. Buddy has an S2K and I must say I can't decide which one I like the most :)
I honestly know almost nothing about the NC, or even the NB, I still drive my 1993 NA that I bought brand new, going on 200k miles now. Love it, and have no desire to replace it.
I have a 2012 Kuro Edition (look it up) in Crystal Pearl and black roof. I bought it new and just last year let BBR sprinkle their magic over it. It’s now 203hp and goes like it should have done out of the box.
Thank you for your honest review. I’m currently searching for a nice NC and found your information extremely informative. Greatly appreciate it Jordan.
Found a NC1 GT in Portland,OR. Gonna be driving with it back to southern Cali. I was thinking of having it shipped. But can't pass up the chance to road trip it all the down the coast. Can't wait. Awesome review btw. Got me hyped up for the trip.
Enjoyed your video as a first time viewer /subscriber (retired senior) . I had a 2015 white GT, sold it , shouldn't have. Shopping for another. Have a chance at my Mazda dealer on a 2013 red Club Edition, 20K on it , & good price. Don't know why I'm on the fence over this one. But, for some reason I prefer the 2015 GT. We are on our 8th Mazda since 1989, zero issues.
Loved your video I to own a Miata 2007 and I love it it's an automatic due to loss of limb no complaints and it's not a girl's car like people think....😁😁😁
I love my Black PRHT NC2 GT 6MT, and it is my daily driver too. Coilovers, light flow formed wheels with lightened lugnuts made it even sweeter. I am considering improving the Bose stereo for an Android-auto Sony unit similar to yours. You're right, the NC2 has all the necessary creature comforts you need, and not all of the complications you don't. I already improved it's wiper stalk, the coolant tank to the aluminium Moroso version, and I did it myself with the help of some youtube videos. This is an honest, willing to have fun roadster that is simple to work on, and a blast to drive at any speed, while giving you nice fuel consumption even if you drive it spiritedly. It took me 7 years to find my NC2 GT, and it is the best car I have ever owned.
@@Jordan_Schiefer 17x8 Flyin' Miata Kogeki wheels. They were designed specifically for the NC, and they weight 15.6 lb. I've owned 17X7.5 Enkei RPF-1 wheels before, but I love how the Kogeki look.
Weve debated this before, and I know ill post more comments as the video goes on (only a few minutes in now haha), but that NC1 with the bumper cut is my favorite front end for this platform!
What bumper cut are you referring to? I recently purchased an NC1 and debating going the route of NC3 front end swap or trying to make NC1 front bumper a lil more agressive.
I bought a used NC1 hardtop 2L with 80K on the clock 5 years ago, 1 previous owner for a good price. It is a fantastic driving car, no doubt! Not only that you can almost infinitely upgrade it, whether its interior, exterior or whatever facelifts to seriously upgrading everything if you so desire! Which I've been doing, coilovers to lower her, Goodwin racing stainless steel exhaust for real zoom, zoom, original release alloy wheels, a new focal sound system to replace the shit BOSE one , front strut bars & so much more! you can buy so many parts for this car on the internet it's mind boggling! Not gonna supercharge coz hey enough is enough & I don't race . So I do twice a year 1200km drives over 2 days, overtake trucks easily, easy maintenance with NO maintenance issues whatever. Around town it FEELS FAST & very responsive wherever you drive ( LOL) It's the best selling sports car on earth ! And personally the NC is the best of the bunch for me!
Thanks for the affirmation of the NC being the better of the 4 models. Bought my '13 Club with the prht. Added an updated stereo, rollbar, trailer hitch so I can put my kayaks on it and truly enjoy the ride.
Nice review. Couple of years ago, I did a 2200 mile “fly-and-drive” from Arizona to Florida to buy my 2012 GT (MT, power hard top, copper red mica) with 24k miles on it. No problems driving it home! I love my Miata, especially on our curvy mountain roads. It has enough power for fun on the twisties, but I agree with you that there is a noticeable loss of power at 5500’ elevation where I live vs. sea level.
I have an 06 automatic...copper mica red/black cloth interior....I look forward to driving, even to work!...and the drives home are just complete fun...I don't drive mine in the winter, I have a Jeep for that, rain, usually the NC, lol
I have an NC 1 and I love it. It's an auto but still very snappy, you mentioned that you have herd of 6.5 sec 0 to 60 well I am on of those. The only mods to date are coil overs and front and rear sway bars.
@@whiteprideisnotacrime1685, good for you! Enjoy your creeper van. What do you think he lied about, van dude? Didn’t see any rust on this MX5, nor have I on any NC MC5.
One small adjustment, the alcantara Recaro seats actually are heated :) At around 7:35 you mentioned that they’re not. Honestly, they’re one of the most comfy seats i’ve sat in and pretty much every passenger i’ve had has mentioned their comfort :)
Ah, I never did mention the Recaro seats! We didn't get them in the USA sadly. Our cloth seats I was referring to are the base seats which aren't heated.
I'm looking at pulling the trigger on a 2008 NC1 I've always wanted a Miata and with the prices compared to my other option (Dodge Challenger which is 16k more expensive) I'm super excited to get one. I learned to drive manual in a Wrangler, lifted 2 feet, with massive tires, so this should be easy
Thanks for sharing your experience with us. The NC 1 & 2 seem to be very similar to the new ND. Your NC seem to get good power even at the height of Colorado with lower oxygen level. Boulder looks beautiful in the winter.
Great video. Here in the UK we have two different driving licences, one for auto and one for manual. So if you pass your driving test for auto, you aren't allowed to drive manual cars. By law.
Just bought my first nc. 08,PRHT ,6 MT. I’m Loving it 😍. Much better than na/nb. I own both of those too btw. So I have 2 na8 one nb2 and the nc1. Can’t have too many
Ty for talking about the Expansion pack. I need to keep that in mind for when I have money headlights arent easy to do haha. you need to remove the wheel to access everything
Think I would review my NC 99% exactly as you reviewed!! I use it for 24hr drives throughout the Southern National Parks (Zion, Yosemite, etc) plus it is my daily driver.
Really enjoyed this. My 2007 Miata was totaled after I got rear ended. Now taking advantage of moving up to a 2010 PHRT grand touring and traveling 600 miles to get it. I can agree with everything here. And exactly why I love this car more than anything else I have ever had.
I'm thinking of buying the best NC2,3 I can find for $20,000. I understand all cars are overpriced at the moment, but I think it's time I have a Miata in my life.
Great video Sir, really well done. I've had a '94 and a '95...loved them both. Currently I have a Mini Cooper and while it's loads of fun, quicker and a bit more upscale... I think I'm missing the Miata. Especially the rear wheel drive. So...I'm looking for the exact car you're driving...including the same color. Thanks again for the well done production...my search has begun.
I also made the mistake of buying a Mini Cooper. It was a 2009 S with 63,000 miles. I was going after another NC but my wife wanted to be able to take our three dogs with us in both cars so I gave in. I regretted it right away. As soon as the Mini hit 70,000 miles it started to self destruct and became a money pit. I found a 2008 GT PRHT with 33,000 miles at my local Utah Mazda dealer and hurried over and traded in the Mini and took a big loss but did not care. Had to get rid of the Mini at all cost. I will never buy another Mini. They are all junk!
I DON'T understand the hate for NCs. My '06 is the best car I've ever owned. Did an 1800 mile road trip without even hiccupping. Put over 60,000 miles on her 100k frame and she still handles like a dream.
I have a NC 2012 GT 6 speed. True red. I changed only the wheels. Lighter and more offset. It looks brand new. Best miata ever. The new ND with double exhaust in one side looks horrible. Not even having glovebox is a deal breaker for me.
I wonder if the different 0-60 times are different gear boxes? Loved my dads RX8 but was too thirsty for me to take on. I might have just seen my next car though.. same spec as yours but 2010 in silver. Great videos mate, thanks for your effort.
I have a club nc3. The handling is so good coupled with a top speed of 135 that I can't get the car out of control. It eats up curves at almost top out speed on my trips to Vegas.
Thanks for the great review. I've been tossing around getting an NC 6 speed with the hardtop or the Club ragtop. I live in Fort Collins and was curious about where you were located. I heard you say Denver and was glad to hear you say that. My only concern was the lack of power here at elevation. But I've had my day with racing hopped up camaros and mustangs back in the 60's and 70,s. Now that I'm older (16 year old in a 72 year old body) I just want to cruise and hit some back mountain roads carving a few corners. What year did they raise the redline? This looks like it would fit the bill! Thanks again for the great review!
2007 nc1 owner from the UK here. Did you buy it? If so recommend davefab aftermarket coolant tank, jass performance aluminium gear know, and there's a great company called the mx5 restorer near eastbourne who will do an underseal of the car to help prevent rust. Cheers, Glenn
@@ThatWasRad Awesome. Definitely look in to getting it wax oiled underneath. People drive from all over the UK and even from France to get their car undersealed by the company I mentioned. If you're looking to keep it, it's a must. Have fun, it's a great little car. Cheers
I agree that Mazda's auto transmissions have come a long way. I'd never drive an auto NA or NB, but my GF has a 2011 mazda 3 with the "sequential gear knob" and it feels really nice using that. Can't compare to the bolt action feeling of driving stick in my 91 NA special edition though. If only I could get my lazy butt to finish my engine rebuild on it and drive it again. I've never had as good of a feeling as when I drove it for hours with no destination after work on winding back roads or into the city areas, top down with my friends and one of their 370s. There is nothing that can fill that gap of how it feels to do that. Seeing a Miata while mine is down is a very bittersweet thing. Also it's funny you said riding motorcycles before made it easy to learn manual cars because I was able to ride a motorcycle almost immediately after buying one after driving my Miata for a year or so.
A perfect sports car imho (design is a personal taste). VFM over the roof. And resale value very good also due to its reliability, nice fuel consumption and cheap maintenance.
I had a 05 mazda 3 2.3L hatchback. Automatic. Handled like a go cart. Increased redline is a plus. 93 rx7 9k was awesome. Stock Nd2 mx5 is ok compared nd1. 7500 vs 6800. My nd1 has 7300. I heard of nd1 with 7600. Nd2 tuned with 8k redline would be nice.
@@KJWGNOW the ND2 is definitely quicker/faster. The seats in the ND are definitely more comfortable. NC has much more room inside and more storage. The engine sounds better in the NC and also has a lot more feedback in the wheel because it’s not electric power steering. Both great cars but I just enjoyed the NC more. ND has a slightly better transmission feel
@@kramer7026 thank you bro. That is quite like I imagine, I owned an NB before....I would say the NB has a little better transmission feel also. And hydraulic steering in the NC is something you won't find in *modern* cars. Can't wait to drive the ND myself to experience it.
The only modification I've done to my nc2 is the red/yellow rx8 sway bars and I think that's sufficient enough for an NC2. Nc1 needs better shocks and springs all around. I am jealous of your special editions additional trim materials, the sport is plastics everywhere
No regrets!
the salesman teaching you how to drive stick is awesome
@@CelticsWRLD yeah that is really fkn awesome. I once learned on a 30 minute lunch break that ended up being a 90 minute lunch break with a miata purchase lmao
we in Europe wouldnt even be allowed to drive a manual, without having done the license with one
I think at this point in time, hating on the NC is a meme now. Everyone loves it but they also love to bag it for fun.
@Jorge Rene Yea, have been watching on flixzone} for since december myself :)
@Jorge Rene yup, I've been watching on Flixzone} for since november myself :D
It's my least favorite Miata, but it still makes it my 4th favorite car. So can't really hate on it that much.
The more reviews I see that give it kudos for great driving, the less attention I give to the haters. I just got a 2015 Club, and I’m loving it. It’s my fifth Miata, BTW.
at least it drives the prices down lol
Hope your doing well and Feeling ALIVE like me ... my 2013 Club makes me SMILE every time I take it out and it still turns heads ... lols ... ... I hate us roads
Couldn’t praise this car more, I have a 2007 NC and it’s incredibly fun and relatively convenient for everyday use
I have a 2015 club edition with the retractable roof. All you need is an exhaust delete and an air intake and you will feel like you're sitting in a car the cost 50 Grand.
2008 NC PRHT more reliable than a Boxster.
just got a 2litre 2013 sport tech nc2. with the option pack (stiffening braces and Bilstein suspension). only 33k on the clock.
great little car, very rewarding drive.
the 3rd gear acceleration from 30mph up to 80 is such fun its just freaky.
@@Thiborfirenz More smiles per kilometers than Boxster! BTW : )
I have an 07 NC too! mines grey and Beth paint faded, and the last owner curbed the wheels to hell
Love your slow and clear approach in doing the review.
As an NC2 owner, I fully agree. People complain about a 100-200 pound weight gain over a na or nb but actually a base nc was barely heavier than the last of the NBs (like
500+ Over an NA, 200+ Over an NB
As an NC2 owner, stamp of approval with this video. Nice work.
Really good review really straightforward comprehensive honest good job with that I just like reviews usually more than I like them not this one,
see you on the road
I have an nc3 sport in Texas phenomenal car got it with 23,000 miles on it
Hello Jordan, and greetings from Ireland.
That power-retractable HARD-TOP is something I didn’t expect- Nice.
Same, I thought the hard top on this generation was clip on/off like the na
@@anthony7898that was also available, but they're rare these days. The PRHT is completely fantastic
Wind noise aside, this is a really good overview of the MX-5 NC. Well done!
I bought my 06 NC from an auction with 244k miles and sitting on coilovers to use as a daily. Keep going
@@robmcilroy1894 currently nb owner and having the same dilemma. Z4 3L or MX-5 nc 😂
I LOVE MY 2012 NC GT!!! Great car, daily and long-distance (24hr drives through National Parks on West Coast) It is rock solid!
Love my ‘13 Club. I drive it back and forth from Michigan to Florida a few times a year.
It’s also got a great heater so you can have the roof down in the snow
What clutch/flywheel did you go with? Does it make the revs noticeably happier
Great review, im watching for the second time. I love my 2011 nc2, it's almost perfect. Prht in mica black with stone leather. Love it. John
I also have a sport black too! I've only been the owner for mine for the last month and a half and absolutely loving the feel and ride of the car. :)
Miata is simply brilliant.
Great video
2009 NC2 Grand Touring owner....soft top. I guess us old farts [67] like the old style canvas. Loved your video. You "get it."
I'll second that. (79 this month)

ND owner here, the NC’s are great cars as all the mx5. If I could I would have one of each 👍👍
Yep my dream garage would be big enough to have NA/NB/NC/ND/NF!
I'm always speeding in my 2008 GT PRHT manual. Love the thing!!
I should add, it has been my daily driver for that entire time, living in So Cal where I purchased it, then Michigan, and Colorado.
Ugh I want a NA but they’re so overpriced rn :/
@@Yony_Gaming Seems like most used vehicles are these days. Damn, I just checked the prices, and yeah, they are stupid right now.
That black roof on white looks sick! I had a Merc c450 with a similar color pallette, soo good.

Hey, beauty is in the eye of the beholder! I do miss my NC1 sometimes. The tall suspension is really the only major factory downside to me.
What bumper cut are you referring to? I recently purchased an NC1 and debating going the route of NC3 front end swap or trying to make NC1 front bumper a lil more agressive.
@@jmandagamer Try black racing stripes. I did that to my 2007 galaxy gray NC1 and it looks the part now.

Around town it FEELS FAST & very responsive wherever you drive ( LOL)
It's the best selling sports car on earth !
My NC1 I mentioned in the video only had coil overs, probably should have added sways. The auto is definitely snappy and responsive, enjoy it!
Why lie lol? My van would leave that pile of rust for dead mate
@@Jordan_Schiefer ah my bad, didn't know there were default cloth seats
By law.
cruise control works down to 20 mph so it works good for school zones. I love my 2007 NC I've had it for about 4 years. Great car
honestly if it had pop-up headlights this would be 100% my next car.
NC Miata gang 💪🏾
Just bought my first nc. 08,PRHT ,6 MT. I’m Loving it 😍. Much better than na/nb. I own both of those too btw. So I have 2 na8 one nb2 and the nc1. Can’t have too many
Ty for talking about the Expansion pack. I need to keep that in mind for when I have money
headlights arent easy to do haha. you need to remove the wheel to access everything
Think I would review my NC 99% exactly as you reviewed!! I use it for 24hr drives throughout the Southern National Parks (Zion, Yosemite, etc) plus it is my daily driver.
Will always love my copper red grand touring soft top NC.
Really enjoyed this. My 2007 Miata was totaled after I got rear ended. Now taking advantage of moving up to a 2010 PHRT grand touring and traveling 600 miles to get it. I can agree with everything here. And exactly why I love this car more than anything else I have ever had.
Love my 2010 - never giving it up. Fantastic car.
Great video and insight into miata ownership. The NC sure seems like the hidden gem of the bunch. Will need to do some test driving.
VERY well done, Jordon! I hope to see you out there on the Colorado roads!
i love how it smiles
I have a NC 2012 GT 6 speed. True red. I changed only the wheels. Lighter and more offset. It looks brand new. Best miata ever. The new ND with double exhaust in one side looks horrible. Not even having glovebox is a deal breaker for me.
My 2015 club nc prht manual trans just got totaled! I didnt get enough from insurance to get another nc so i went ahead and got an NB
I wonder if the different 0-60 times are different gear boxes?
Loved my dads RX8 but was too thirsty for me to take on.
I might have just seen my next car though.. same spec as yours but 2010 in silver.
Great videos mate, thanks for your effort.
My dad has one of these and by far the most fun car i have ever rode in, im also only 11 so cant day much but, yeah
This is the best Miata video on TH-cam. I learned a lot. Thanks
Great vid, thanks! I'm about to go look at a 2007 here in the UK. Fingers crossed it's not a dog!
@@GMak81 I did buy it, it wasn't a dog! Thanks for the tips. I'm up in Yorkshire, we have a couple of specialists up here too.
I’ve owned a nc and a nd2. I enjoyed the nc more. Engine characteristics, steering feel and throttle response much better in NC
I have a nc3 now.... And really lusting a ND2....if you care... Can you please tell me more how you feel about the two cars. 🙏
I will say I liked the NC shifter feel more than ND after doing the Ford Motorcraft Transmission Fluid flush
Miata
is
always
the
answer
Like I always say, a Lada Niva for winter days and a Miata for those better days.
The only modification I've done to my nc2 is the red/yellow rx8 sway bars and I think that's sufficient enough for an NC2. Nc1 needs better shocks and springs all around. I am jealous of your special editions additional trim materials, the sport is plastics everywhere
I own a mazda nc 2008 ...i dont need blue tooth ...i enjoy driving it ...amazing toy!! :)
