I've heard some watches, (G-Shock? and probably others) add completely functionless ballast to the design for the sole purpose of giving the unit a more substantial, solid feel, to help make it seem tougher/higher quality and worth the price tag. I'd prefer the form to follow function, because I'm high speed low drag.
