I like the look of his knives, pretty badass. But I'll never own one because of the guy behind them. Don't care about his problems with the law I'd be able to see past that without issue but pretending to be one of the heroes that put their life on the line for the rest of us is disgusting. Especially after all the blood, sweat and tears shed over the last decade plus of war, just plain not okay in my books. There are too many great guys making great knives out there to give any of my money to an honor thief, no matter how much I like the look of his products.

I don't think much of strider knives, but it's different reasons than most. They don't seem very good QC, or fit and finish, which is unacceptable for a knife that costs 400 dollars. There are plenty of much cheaper knives with all the same materials, etc. as a Strider, and are just as solid, and I really don't think Mick Strider could pull off these prices if it weren't for his military contracts.

  • @RookCustoms
    @RookCustoms 8 ปีที่แล้ว +17

Stolen Valor! Listen i understand you like his knives and it might have you looking past his "Stolen Valor". For anyone that has served its a big deal...... He knew exactly what he was doing he wasn't telling stories of a bygone era or dreams he wish came true. Dude straight up lied to give street cred. to his knife designs. Its how he advertised his knife when he first came on the scene. If you don't care about it.. its kool but to play it off like he was some innocent kid just trying to get a cookie and got caught by grandma is just wrong.
When it comes to the military give aways thats great! Just seem to come around that time his military history was taking a hit. Now in his true of hearts he could have been really trying to help, but if you really don't think there is a benefit in giving product to the military.....Just look into Glock's story ....You think they practically gave police units there pistols because in their heart of hearts wanted to help them out?? Your a smart dude you know how it works. Anything that is seen used by Military or Police is automatically wanted by the masses. It gives their products legitimacy. Do i shy away from buying a Strider because of Mick "Stolen Valor" Strider history ...NO not anymore than i would stop watching Braveheart because Mel's water taste Jewish!!! lol He's a dirtbag but he has some cool ass knives. Although i have always held that his knives are over priced. $500.00 for a knife completely made on a machine only hand work is putting those parts together. For that i'd lay down the extra $50 and get one of Medford's TFF-1s. Look its been said below everyone has made mistakes and boy is that true but his is a big ass one that he repeated over and over for personal gain and he did it on the backs of true warriors>>>> Strider Knifes kick ass , Ole MICKY boy well he's a Jack-hole that pretended to be a badass when he really was a E-1 that couldn't handle his military service! Rook Out! Merica-F#ck YA!!

I appreciate that. I also just bought a new SNG to honor his actions. My words from my past military have at times benefitted from doubt. I was a common USAF grunt injured in service honestly. Flightline noise destroyed my hearing, and a bad ly loaded trailer of munitions destroyed my leg legs and knee. I honor all those who walk the alk. Thats a lot harder than talking about it.

There are too many excellent knife makers out there I can buy from for me to be willing to buy from someone willing to sell his honor. Many people here say "Who cares what he did in the past, his knives are great." I believe that character counts for something. When it comes to me spending my hard earned money, it counts for a lot, actually. A man who lied to suit his needs once will do so again, and that is not someone I trust my money to go to.

500 words is short to sum up Mick. I've seen him do great things for people, and I've seen him intentionally screw people over just because he felt like it. Unfortunately it seems I see far more of the latter than the former. Similarly his background, and Mr. Dwyer's backgrounds, which they HEAVILY traded on when selling knives, are BOTH fabrications. That doesn't mean he doesn't make a decent knife, but his erratic customer service and lack of integrity are major concerns given the warranty.

I agree buying American for "personal" reasons makes no sense, but at least in some industries, you still get a quality advantage and its simpler to just say "buy American" than to have to look at every single brand or individual product. American cars have never been that great, though they are improving. In a lot of other industries (like knives), it's a very different story.

So Mick changed his name from Burger to Strider because of threats on his family, and then publicly announces the name change, uses it to start a knife company, with himself as the front person? Please. Burger Knives, does not sound as good as Strider Knives, so he changed it. You are talking about a guy who wanted to become an army war hero, but that is afraid of internet threats and trolls? I don't think so. The guy makes an awesome looking, tough, yet useless-for-cutting-folding-prybar, and I congratulate him on his success. But he took the shady way of getting there. Most publicity is good publicity I guess.

Funny how real heros never talk about it. Fakers want to tell you everything. I do really like Strider knives. He also provides jobs for a shit ton of veterans in his shop, and from what I hear treats them very well. People make mistakes. People do dumb things but everyone deserves a second chance in life. None of us should be condemned for our past if we are making an honest approach and making it right and paying it forward.

Totally Agree! The SNG is the ultimate folding knife. The design and shape are really the kickers. Like you said in the video; it may not look like it but it's the perfect shape for the hand. In particular the SNG (vs. SMF) is the perfect size for the pocket. It's even light and small enough for the shoulder pocket or chest pocket. I prefer the tiger stripe, lego G-10, non-CC/DGG like the ones in your video. Strider Inc. may have "closed" but Mick Strider custom is still making these!

Sorry Carter - I have to disagree here. Based on my own personal experience with Mick Strider in the USN Strider forum I've found him to be lacking in character. I don't he's remorseful over the lies he's put out there and I'm sure he spends a lot in tax deductible business write offs to be seen as someone who supports our troops. I'll be selling the one SnG I own based on my interaction with him and his well deserved negative reputation.

Don't worry guys, he only fabricated his entire background and stole the valour of fallen soldiers to sell knives. He only took the names of 2 dead soldiers Shugart and Gordon, and printed their initials on his blades to promote his tactical blades after they already died and had no knowledge of this.
It's all good, we all steal the valour of soldiers and steal their glory, and use dead soldiers who he never served with to sell our knives.
The last knife I sold I promoted my work as a commando, and printed the name of dead soldiers on my blade, it's just the knife game bro don't worry. It's not bad, I also car jacked a civilian at gun point and pretended it was a black ops mission, then sold a crate of knives. I also give my knives to soldiers for free so they can pose for photo shoots with my blades on the front lines, free publicity bro it's the game don't be a hater guys.

The thing about the Japan and Tawian that makes them more expensive is the advanced tooling and manufacturing process that they have. Sal said himself that if they made the Sage series in the US it would be 50 to 70 $ more expensive than now. It`s a bit more complicated than that, and yes they are out to make money, after all its a buisness, and not charity.

I agree with that. Totally believe in free trade, etc. Thing you have to realize though, is that economically speaking, value is subjective. The fact that some value that "USA" marking on their item may not seem particularly rational, but it's not inconsistent with free markets or capitalism. It's just another thing that certain people pay attention to, the same way others pay attention to brand or design or material quality.

  • @JDYTC

I respectfully disagree with you here.
    1. Personally I think Striders are one of the most overpriced knives in the business. Or at least were for a decade, before the new lock-geometry. Never understood and still don't why people spent half a grand on a production folder that developed lock-rock within no-time (and came not even sharp).
    2. I'm more on team NeptuneKnives - I think Mick Strider is a disgusting lying backstabber (can not even stand in Sal Glesser's shadow).

I trained over 15 years ago with a Spyderco against a Buck 110 striking the side of a jacket and we also set up a hook. Moving in and striking with the side of the blade trying to make each one catch the Buck 110 was always in my hand when moving back out in a in and out type drill mimiking how you might strike. The Spyderco hung up at times and when caught on the hook it was snatched right out of my hand. I knew back the these Striders wer'nt good fighting knives. Now a days guns is everything so knife fighting really is a lost art so its easy for people to fake about it since there nobody to call them out on it like i am now. I like James Keating just fine but i remember laughing at the Spyderco Chinook back then too but whatever. Peace

Alright well those knives seem reasonably priced to me, if not a little on the expensive side. One reason why some knives might be much more expensive could be materials used. You can't compare a knife with VG-10 and FRN handles to a knife with S90V and G10.

There are plenty of guys in the military who relish an opportunity to (at best) embellish their service record. It's a part of human nature of some people to want to make themselves seem more important than they are, if not to outright deceive others for their own personal gain. I don't know what Mick's rationale was, and ultimately as a veteran myself, I don't really care. I don't have any deep respect or contempt for the guy either way. There is no argument in my mind that his brand made some excellent cutting tools, if not being a tad overpriced. Honestly though, I think anybody who attempts to justify the need to camouflage a knife for "tactical" reasons is probably going to bullshit you somewhere down the line, so you either accept that for what it is and move on or make a stand and don't budge.

They have contracts they made years ago, for example Moki produces Spyderco knives. I think it was last year that Spyderco made around 40.000$ profit. Not a lot compared to all the killer knives they put out that year. Global economics is a bit more complicated, especially for a smaller company like Spyderco.

you really need to learn how to have an adult conversation. you can have a constructive discussion without insults. and it is well known that the usa is one of the best places to produce because in japan the workers are paid almost the same as unskilled US workers and the cost of transportation is slashed. the untied states is the best place to currently build. an exapmle is the manix 2 it is $8 bucks more than a endura. it has steel liners, g10 and a more expensive lock and steel.

most all of the usa knives are sub $150, there are a ton of knives from taiwan that are well over $100 bucks such as the warrior, gale bradley, the sages, chaprell, bushcraft etc...... all overpriced for a taiwan build. the japan factory has alot of $50 knives that are lesser quality and have cheeper parts and materials. sal claims it is more expensive to build a delica in japan than the usa which is total bullshit.

Well, he sees it like a little white lies, creates this "cult" around him and to be honest, as fun as the strider forum on the USN is they tolerate absolutely no negative, or constructive criticism about his knives or the company. Like the hijack thread. Duane is no white sheep either, but the fact is still that he lied about his service. Other than that I agree with you. The Strider company does great things for active military and vets. And I`m looking forward to my first Strider knife. SMF CC

I remember the Strider guys at a gun show in Reno. They showed up had a little table. Bunch of interested parties bellied up picking up knives. I looked at one that was about $400.00. I said hmm got to see a Strider. Anyway I walked back around. Bam the one at the table. Duane I think it was. Gone a small pile of brochures and they were off to enjoy the gun show or what ever it is they wanted to do. Anyway thats what inspired me to start making knives. The American dream baby to the core.

sounds a little sociopathic. If you Google sociopath you'll see a page with the definition for it. You'll find Many politicians. Businessmen. and fame-less people, have sociopathic tendency's. Doesn't make them murders.. just makes them game players of people. they see what a group wants and they become what that group wants they have low self-esteem at times so they may build them-self up with elaborate story's and backgrounds
