      On the grounds I only see the ball just before the red area and then that one one thousands of a second later when its going in the catchers mitt. Ya I would not make a good catcher as a matter a fact ill just admit this right now. There won't be, never has been, never will be, any position in baseball for me. I would try coaching tho. 😊

      So true! I feel like people don't appreciate the fact that most of the time the catcher is deciding what pitches the pitcher should throw! Not only is it one of the most physically demanding positions in baseball, but also the strategy of pitch sequence and controlling base runners too! I believe it is a tie between catcher and pitcher for the most impactful player on the field

      Nothing compare to this... 150 kph is the time when they release the ball... When it reaches to batsman speed drops down to 110-120...baseball it goes on 100 mph.. So speed is much more higher... That's why it's tough to hit though it is full toss..

      Think how good your hand-eye coordination has to be to see the hand release, undserstand the pitch, and make contact. This is why I never agreed with steroids, they can’t solve the biggest problem for a hitter - that you have .2 seconds until the ball is past you.

      a top hitter will make contact with these pitches about 70% of the time and put the ball in play. And roughly 60% of those balls he hits will be fielded for an out, leaving him with about 40% that will count as actual hits.
      That's how good you have to be to get a .300 average.

    I think catcher is the most underrated position in professional sports. This dude is responsible for catching 90+ mph baseballs consistently and also have the arm talent to throw a ball to second plate at a record time.

      It's crazy because catchers are like the bottom of the totem pole for baseball positions too. Like if you have a decent arm to make the throw to 2nd and tough but aren't athletic enough to play in the field or outfield and you can't hit then you play catcher lol. But they really are under appreciated, they control the entire game from behind the plate

      I played every position except Pitcher and Short-stop growing up, catching was the only one that I couldn't get the hang of within one or two practices.

      Unfortunately theu will never use this angle bc those professional cameras they use cost around $200,000. And in case you didn't know, balls are often fouled directly back and there will be many broken cameras if placed specifically at this angle. Luckily though, they use the ump cams which are pretty similar albeit not as good as this angle

They could easily use a cheaper one for that spot and it would still be JUST FINE. This video demonstrates that...
      Also, there's got to be some sort of a barrier they could fix to protect the camera from 99% of the possible impacts.
      It really doesn't seem like a very difficult problem to solve for a sports organization worth over 100 billion. I'm petty sure an ordinary carpenter off the street could figure it out...
      The league just isn't interested in fans seeing how many terrible calls are made.

      It’s take an average of .5 seconds for the ball to reach home plate in that time the player has to acknowledge the pitch make a decision and then execute. Or less than a half a second to make three decisions and then by the time you make that swing, you’re already losing .1 or .2 seconds… it’s really incredible when you think about it

      I had to put about a half inch of foam padding in my catcher's mit in high school because we had one pitcher that could throw 90-100mph. And most catchers put the fore finger on the outside of the MIT like this catcher does.

      the thing is - you have to be ready every pitch, because you just don't know if its coming your way.
      it's also a big mind game and numbers and strategy game. they have to know exactly what to do with the ball if it comes... and that is based on various scenarios like which bases are occupied.
      anywho, i wasn't a fan, but i'm learning and liking it more.

    I love this camera angle. It really puts into perspective how fast a pitch is actually coming, sometimes from a distance. It doesn't seem that fast, but when you're having to have an almost batter's view, it's really awe inspiring.

      Considering pitchers & catchers have better relationships then QBs and WRs it’s not that surprising. His job is to know his pitcher/pitchers. That means knowing speeds, angles, tendencies, all the above. Doesn’t make it easy but Catchers are trained for this.

    I vividly remember in high school when I saw my first 90mph pitch. You have a split second to make up your mind, swing and adjust to the incoming pitch. One of the hardest things in sports to do.

      I was a catcher in my youth. I was scared sh!tless at first. Didnt take too long to get comfortable but I wasnt the biggest of kids. I had a few tanks coming at me rounding third that made me prematurely gray......lol.😂😂

      Basketball the hardest for another reason, they have to be.in shape.to run both sides ofcourt for 48 minutes, they are generally the ones in best shape, rarely see any out of shape compares to other sports

    When I was young, we used to go to the arcade batting cages down near the Jersey Shore. Their "fast ball" was ~ 60 mph, which seemed pretty fast back then. Pro-level pitching is a completely different universe. BIG props to the catchers, too, that`s a TOUGH job !
