One issue i see that needs to be addressed is the drive to the pickup and the driver getting paid nothing for that. I get 15 minute plus pickup times often only to take a rider two to four miles down the road. Cannot make enough money with that happening. I tried it for ten days and it just was not worth the stress of fighting traffic with no more than I was able to net.

Drove with LYFT for ten days and had this recurring issue. In Atlanta, Ga if your vehicle is older than 2014 the app will log you off when dropping passengers off at the terminals because the vehicle does qualify for airport pickups. Well. when a on a three ride streak this will break my streak. it happened four times in four days as I go to the airport regularly. After a lengthy chat session with a different rep every time in which I had to explain the entire situation over and over I had three support reps acknowledge it is an issue on Lyft's end and credit me the money. The fourth rep basically said I should stay away from the airport since I do not qualify. Hello, what am I supposed to do with my rider that is going to the airport? I am finished with LYFT since it is barely worth my time with the bonus and certainly not worth my time without the bonuses. After gas I averaged around 12 dollars an hour in my ten days and 156 rides. Not getting rich here folks. I see why LYFT is begging for drivers.
According to my calculations and considering the gas money spent, hours online and total earning you were making about $15 bucks an hour on top of wearing out your new car. I don't think it is worth it bro. I mean if you want to do it for fun I guess it's ok but I wouldn't even consider this for a side job. Great video and great explanation. Take care!

Hi! Several years ago, I used to drive for "Uber" and had picked up a few passengers that were either going from a party [slightly intoxicated] or going to a bar [to get more intoxicated]. I once picked up some passengers from an air show that was being held in another city close to where I live. Unknown to me, when the person first got in my car, she was holding an open plastic cup of beer - without a lid on it! Anyway, long story short, this person managed to spill some beer on the back seat area where people sit [unknown to me as well] & when I picked up my next customer/passenger, she mentioned the seat was wet. Good thing I had some towels in my car trunk, so I placed the towel on the wet spot for that passenger. Shortly after that experience, I stopped driving for Uber. I won't pick up any "bar" passengers anymore because I don't want the customer to get sick in my car! Now my neighbor & friend drives for "Lyft" and he says it's a much better company to drive for. This video was helpful with the extra tips about having a bucket handy for keeping the inside of the car clean between different passenger rides. Another person mentioned about not picking up a passenger with an infant, which was good to know, since I don't have a car seat in my car as all my grandkids are well past the "baby" stage! @abbyhunker3956 - Also, how does a "Lyft" driver know if they are being requested to pick up at a bar or not? thanks for reading my reply! 😀
Information not given: Rates vary by regions. Some areas make considerably less per mile/minute than others. Also: Uber will pay you a small stipend to pick up farther away (8 minutes or more) whereas lyft does not. Lyft automatically adds the next ride. Uber will ask you first.
Definitely an informative video that put things into a much better perspective. Great posting with very good tips on having the Covid safety kit, extra mask, sanitizers etc. Also the suggestion of having something to occupy the kids with such as watching a movie or playing a game . Gives one a better understanding and working knowledge to make an informed decision as to giving this opportunity a try.

It's great when you start, been driving 6 years after incentives have it make sense. I received $1750 for a every driver referred and could easily make $500 a night on Friday & Saturday. It is not like that anymore, ask yourself why do they need drivers so bad that they're back to referral bonuses??????
Because Lyft and Uber keep deactivating the High earning, picky, 4 year or more pros who have a high cancellation rate. They want the rookies to drive for them because they will pick up anyone without using their brain to sort out the worthless long-distance pickups who need a 3 mile ride.
You should get dash camera when I work in Lyft in urs safety I'm start driving in Lyft 2017 if u get accident you have prove it I'm Waz passenger inside my car and some one run it red lig

how much can a driver make that does 60 hours a week after taxes and fuel roughly some people are saying under $1000 some are saying $1500-2500 and so on and does Lyft still do express pay where u can cash out at the end of ur shift
Glad it helped! I kept all my receipts for any food, and supplies I needed and recorded mileage driven, and gave all that to my CPA and let them handle it.
Hell now! In my Iowa market, the rates and tips are way too low for all this stuff. I'm not gonna be providing masks, USB outlets and video games for a bunch of $3 and $4 fares.
Thank u for this video it is very helpful to me because I'm wanting to become a Lyft driver and this a good insight on how to be a good Lyft driver I definitely love the idea of how to entertain children and keeping the car clean as well stay blessed and will highly recommend this video to anyone 🙏 thank you
Great video. Thanks for doing it. The interesting part I see is that you made $20.21 a hour if you count your online hours or $30 an hour of booked hours. At 1400 miles with a low cost of 25 cent a mile you earned $15.07 if you count online hours and $22.45 an hour if you count booked hours.
Very good presentation with valuable tips. One comment, you used the term odometer twice when I think you meant tripmeter. Resetting your odometer involves pulling out your Instrument panel and is VERY illegal.
i have been driving off and on for about five years and now with all this stuff going on just wondering what you think i have breathing issues and don't wear a mask and i always tell people when they get in but some of them say it's ok and i still get complaints. the whole situation is frustrating if you don't want to ride then you don't have to. i emailed lyft about it if was going to be permenant and didn't get a response. will probably stop driving upseet about this any advice.
Well just tried to sign up using your referral code. All was well until I got to the vehicle. I have an '05 Yukon XL, unfortunately it does not qualify. A '06 will though.
@@tracenfitzpatrick so its within the the Lyft app for riders??? I'm new to this, just waiting for my background check and my vehicle inspection to clear. Thanks.
A couple questions: Great video btw! Lyft is running a crazy $9,000 guaranteed earnings promo now (200 deliveries in 30 days). Do you think it's possible to hit that goal?? Where area did you drive?
Wow, that is pretty crazy! I drive around Salt Lake City, Utah. I recently did 30 rides in about 2.5 days. My big bonus was 120 rides in 30 days and I hit that without driving everyday.
How do you turn the volume down on the driver app for lyft. It's loud and annoying. Nobody had ever been able to answer this. The uber app is much easier to change the volume.
Well how do I get my money back? Grant it that it's $9.99, but it's the principle. And I want it back or a free ride. I've been a Lyft customer since my horrific car accident. And I love Lyft, but this driver not seeing me or ignoring me; really ticked me off,
Not really sure how to help you on that one. I don’t work for Lyft aside from occasionally driving, so you might have to look up their customer support.
Join a delivery company, & no rider will sit in your car to give you a poor rating or false report for a free ride. You'll also earn more for a few mileage.
They can still give you poor ratings as a delivery person, people will get their food delivered then pretend they never received it to get their money back, which looks bad on the drivers part
@@alisjay9798 It’s true, but the picture of where you place the food will serve as your evidence when they lie. Unlike a ride when the person sits in your car, makes it dirty or bangs your car door.
I live near two casino's, and I have every friday night and every other saturday night off...was debating buying a used sedan and buying it under an llc or something so everything is tax deductible. i work graveyard as is so i don't mind being up all night fri and sat etc. was wondering if it'd be worth it.
Casinos don’t matter. Maybe one or 2 per hour use a rideshare. But Friday and Saturday from 11-3 am is usually lucrative if it is a city area in general.
You don’t need an LLC. Lyft/Uber usually signs you up as an individual. As a Lyft driver, you’re are considered an independent contractor and so categorized as self employed. That means your most of your expenses are tax deductible.
Thank you. I'm still new to all that, and just gave my end of year paperwork from lyft right to our tax person. My car hasn't needed much maintenance still, but i'm sure that would all factor in.
Everything for maintenance, your phone, your gas, miles.car washes, cameras, your car payment, your car insurance Anything that you use for your business is a write off. If lyft or uber charges you .50 to withdrawal your money. That .50 charge is also a write off.
payroll takes until Friday the following week, unless you go premium with cash out. warning: if you are renting your Lyft car through Express Drive you cannot cash out until the rental is paid for.
People had told me to sign up for lyft it pays better than uber. Well after trying it for a while I'm unimpressed. Half the orders paid less than was shown and they are not transparent at all
@Rich Natural I stopped driving (full-time) early June. Haven't done a ride since. It's more of a protest, because I'm in Cali, and Uber's dirty deed of Bait and Switch. Lyft.. No thanks!

Go Dawgs!!! How is Lyft working in Athens
Great video. Very professionally done for not having many subscribers.
Thank you
Nice video I’m finally going to try this very soon
How does taxes work can you opt for a W2 instead of a 1099?
how much can a driver make that does 60 hours a week after taxes and fuel roughly some people are saying under $1000 some are saying $1500-2500 and so on and does Lyft still do express pay where u can cash out at the end of ur shift
I haven't driven recently, but last time I was on, you still had the option to cash out anytime. I think it cost $0.50.
@@tracenfitzpatrick how much can u generally make after ur taxes and fuel roughly if u work every day Monday- Sunday 7am-9pm I live in Syracuse NY
What does it mean when you say something like 16 hours online and 12 hours booked?
Thanks
I was out logged in to Lyft for 16 hours total, but only had people in the car for rides for 12 of those hours.
Super helpful! Thanks for all the suggestions on getting started!
You're welcome! I hope you try it out!
Just started this week. This video is very helpful. Any info on what be considered tax deductible and if there’s a limit on gas and food deductions?
Glad it helped! I kept all my receipts for any food, and supplies I needed and recorded mileage driven, and gave all that to my CPA and let them handle it.
Hell now!
In my Iowa market, the rates and tips are way too low for all this stuff. I'm not gonna be providing masks, USB outlets and video games for a bunch of $3 and $4 fares.
How do you turn off automatic ride accepting?
Do you think you can make $2700 working 4/5 days a week 7 hours a day in 30 days?
Thank u for this video it is very helpful to me because I'm wanting to become a Lyft driver and this a good insight on how to be a good Lyft driver I definitely love the idea of how to entertain children and keeping the car clean as well stay blessed and will highly recommend this video to anyone 🙏 thank you
Awesome! Glad it helped out!
Thanks! Glad you liked it
Thank you for this video, I am trying to driver either for Uber or Lyft on my spare time just to make extra money.
Glad you found it helpful!
Very good presentation with valuable tips. One comment, you used the term odometer twice when I think you meant tripmeter. Resetting your odometer involves pulling out your Instrument panel and is VERY illegal.
correction: tripometer
@@AlanBrennaman thanks for the comment, and you are correct!
Why does Lyft have Felon's Driving and make it impossible to report??
..
i have been driving off and on for about five years and now with all this stuff going on just wondering what you think i have breathing issues and don't wear a mask and i always tell people when they get in but some of them say it's ok and i still get complaints. the whole situation is frustrating if you don't want to ride then you don't have to. i emailed lyft about it if was going to be permenant and didn't get a response. will probably stop driving upseet about this any advice.
Wow! Appreciate info. That makes me wonder how some folks I’ve encountered claim they make $1000 to $1500 a WEEK!!!
I certainly could have driven a lot more, but wouldn’t want to be out constantly. Not sure how accurate those people’s claims are.
Is this a 1099 job?
Love this video. Been thinking about doing this job so I need to see this.
That’s great! I’m glad you found it helpful! 👊🏻
Well just tried to sign up using your referral code. All was well until I got to the vehicle. I have an '05 Yukon XL, unfortunately it does not qualify. A '06 will though.
Oh man! So close!
Lots of people use different cars then the one they sign up with… 😆
I can't find the Lyft App that lets you know where other drivers are.
It’s the Lyft passenger app.
@@tracenfitzpatrick so its within the the Lyft app for riders??? I'm new to this, just waiting for my background check and my vehicle inspection to clear. Thanks.
@@joemartinez8322 Yes thats right.
@@tracenfitzpatrick thanks for the information.
@@tracenfitzpatrick does Lyft App keep track of driver hours and will those hours appear on 1099 or do I keep track of hours on my own?
A couple questions:
Great video btw!
Thanks so much for the reply! I'll give it a shot!
@@craigf4588 best of luck!
Hi. You didn’t say what kind of rides were u doing like Lyft bla or lux
Just standard rides.
A 78-hour work week should pay well over $3k.
Can disability people use a lyft app for transportation to go to the shelter about adult abuse, when people call 211,I'm living with disability.
Decorating the car like Cashcsb would be pretty cool.
Yeah that would be!
That intro was fire!!
I appreciate it!
Great video ! Absolutely loved all the information thanks for the video
You bet. Glad you liked it!
How do you turn the volume down on the driver app for lyft. It's loud and annoying. Nobody had ever been able to answer this. The uber app is much easier to change the volume.
I figured that out sometime ago but don't remember what I did specifically. Next time i'm online i'll see if I can find it again.
This video was very well done
Thank you, I appreciate the comment!
Thanks best to do Lyft express and get the app for your miles its deductible on your taxes too, take care

What type of car, is and hybrids?
Love Lyft BUT TODAY 10/7 I WAS OUTSIDE WAITING FOR MY LYFT DRIVER FOR 20 MINUTES WITH MY MEDICAL GEAR. THE DRIVER NEVER PICKED ME UP AND I AM PEEVED.
That's frustrating!
Any suggestions?
They can still give you poor ratings as a delivery person, people will get their food delivered then pretend they never received it to get their money back, which looks bad on the drivers part
@@alisjay9798 It’s true, but the picture of where you place the food will serve as your evidence when they lie. Unlike a ride when the person sits in your car, makes it dirty or bangs your car door.

How much income tax do you pay ? Do you file W2 or you establish a corporation for a write off ??
It keep saying my insurance expired
I live near two casino's, and I have every friday night and every other saturday night off...was debating buying a used sedan and buying it under an llc or something so everything is tax deductible. i work graveyard as is so i don't mind being up all night fri and sat etc. was wondering if it'd be worth it.
I'm not sure what restrictions there are on the age of a vehicle to drive ride-share. I'd suggest looking into that before making a purchase.
@@tracenfitzpatrick oh, yeah it would be 2-3 years old
Casinos don’t matter. Maybe one or 2 per hour use a rideshare. But Friday and Saturday from 11-3 am is usually lucrative if it is a city area in general.
Edit (outside of vegas and Atlantic City im sure)
You don’t need an LLC. Lyft/Uber usually signs you up as an individual. As a Lyft driver, you’re are considered an independent contractor and so categorized as self employed. That means your most of your expenses are tax deductible.
Thank a whole lots guy .
That’s nice work for one month driver ? You have been reading Lyft scripts very good for the advertisement
Not paid for or sponsored by Lyft 👍🏻
Awesome video! 🙌👍 thank u!
Glad you liked it!
Great video. Do you know what items you can write off for taxes in regards to fuel, maintenance, etc.?
@@truckermick8497 or you can deduct the mileage instead, which is .58/mile
Great video and excellent job! Following behind another vehicle is called drafting :) Curious: what hours did you work?
Thanks! I didn’t ever do any set schedule. Just as my days would allow, I’d go. Minimum a couple hours.
payroll takes until Friday the following week, unless you go premium with cash out. warning: if you are renting your Lyft car through Express Drive you cannot cash out until the rental is paid for.
Good to know. Thanks for commenting.
People had told me to sign up for lyft it pays better than uber. Well after trying it for a while I'm unimpressed. Half the orders paid less than was shown and they are not transparent at all
Thanks for video. I will look for more

I did around 18000 rides over 3 years my rating was 4.97 and I will never never drive again for these companies
Why? Lol
Yup!!!
@Rich Natural I stopped driving (full-time) early June. Haven't done a ride since. It's more of a protest, because I'm in Cali, and Uber's dirty deed of Bait and Switch. Lyft.. No thanks!
